Hey everyone! Today, I will be giving characters from the Hunger Games warrior names.

Before we begin, I wanna say that there will be some spoilers so if you haven’t read the series and are interested in, or don’t want the plot spoiled then I suggest you stop here.

I’ll be basing my information based on my knowledge of book one. (Maybe a little from book two but I haven’t finished it)

Our lovely protagonist: Katniss Everdeen.
Katniss Everdeen, a teenage girl whose family depends on her for surviving. We know from the books, that she likes to hunt with her best friend, Gale Hawthorne. She’s against having children or ever getting married because of the chance that her kids may have to compete in the Hunger Games; a cruel competition consisting of 24 tributes, two from each of the twelve districts. Fast forward to the annual reaping of the Seventy-fourth Hunger Games, two names are drawn, one being Prim Everdeen (Katniss’ younger sister who is only twelve at the time) and the other Peeta Mellark. (The bakers boy who has a crush on Katniss) So Katniss stands up and takes Prims place, and the tributes are escorted to the Capitol of Panem (The country they live in)
Before the games, Peetas and Katniss’ mentor, Haymitch Abernathy, tells them the importance of finding water. They also prep and train for the arena. When the games finally begin, Katniss doesn’t ally herself with anyone, seeing at Peeta allied himself with the careers (A group of tributes who ally themselves, known as the Career pack) Listening to Haymitches words Katniss tries to find water. Later on in the story after a bunch of tributes die, Katniss notices a little girl from District 11, about the age of her sister and decides to ally herself with her. They plan to destroy the careers’ food and supplies, and they do so. But Katniss realizes somethings not right and goes to find her, she uses the signal they had. The girl (Rue) signals back, Katniss is able to locate her but before she could get to Rue, she was speared in the abdomen .When the Rue dies, Katniss kills her murderer and buries the girl in flowers. Some time later, an announcement is made that there can be two winners if they are from the same district. (During the interviews, Peeta and Katniss fake being in love so they can get a better advantage in the games, hoping to draw more sponsors in, helping them during the games) With a shout of excitement, Katniss eagerly tracks down Peeta only to discover he is at the brink of death. Finding shelter, and helping to clean him off and nurse his fever, it seems Peeta is getting better until Katniss realizes he has blood poisoning and won’t live much longer. Ceaser Flickerman (basically the announcer and interviewer) informs the remaining tributes that what they need is at the cornucopia (A big horn) so Katniss puts Peeta to sleep and sneaks out, almost getting killed along the way, but she gets the medicine for Peeta and all is well. Until it narrows down to the three remaining tributes. Katniss, Peeta and a boy named Cato. A bunch of hideous beasts come in the form of the dead tributes and kill Cato. Then it is announced that only one victor can be named so Peeta and Katniss pick some poisonous berries but before they can Ceaser announces that they can both go home.

That is the summary of Katniss’ story/ book one.
We can see that Katniss is a bold, strong, confident and caring person. For this, I’ll give her the name of Boldfang. She’s bold and when she’s angry her words strike sharper than a fang.

Peeta Mellark:
Peeta Mellark is the same age as Katniss (around sixteen) and the son of a baker. It is known he first fell in love with Katniss when his father pointed her out on the first day of school. Ever since, he’s had a crush on her and is devastated to hear that after the games, she was just pretending to love him. But even during the games, he was protecting her from the careers who wanted her dead, misleading them, causing himself pain to protect Katniss, even trying to kill himself so she could go home safe.
Peeta has a very kind heart, and is both smart, inquisitive and witty. Often taking spontaneous risks. I’ll give him the name Leapfeather, (Because he leaps into actions and his heart is as soft as a feather)

Rue (Ruby) Bennet
Rue was a contestant in the 74th Hunger Games, along with Katniss and Peeta. She was from District 11, responsible for agriculture. Rue had a special song that the mockingjays would mimic. She partly decided to drop Katniss because of her mockingjay pin, warning her about the tracker jackers that would’ve killed Katniss without Rues help. She loved to sing, and was stealthy. For this, I’d name her Meadowjay. Meadow because its peaceful and still, and because she worked on fields. and jay because of the connection she had with mockingjays.

Haymitch Abernathy
Haymitch was a victor in the 50th hunger games (the second quarter quell) where the tributes were doubled. When he won, and got rich he eventually became an alchoholic, but was very helpful to Peeta and Katniss in books one and two.
I would name him Redsnarl. Red for the color of wine, and snarl for the way he’s harsh but caring towards Peeta and Katniss.

Gale Hawthorne
Gale was Katniss’ hunting partner, and best friend. He also really loved her despite her never wanting to marry or have children. Unpopular opinion: I really don’t like him, because he’s all over the place, like one second he agrees to run away with her, the second he says no because Peetas also getting an invite, then he says I shoulda went with you. I dunno I just don’t like Gale (I think im rambling.) BUT, despite all this he also really loved Katniss (Team Peeta though, who’s with me) I’d give him the name Thornblade, Thorn because of his name, and blade because he was a hunter.

I think thats it for now! I could do a part two once I finish Catching Fire, Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Mockingjay! Let me know which was your favorite name. If you enjoyed this article and perhaps want to read the hunger games, heres a link to book one!

Thank you so much until next time!

Polorito out!
