TwistedStalkTheWolf compares Ivypool to their novel’s main character, TwistedStalk.
Hey, everyone! I will be talking about the lives of Ivypool, my favorite Warriors character, and TwistedStalk, the main character of the novel I am writing! (The novel, A River’s Rage, is more mature than Warriors, so when it actually is published, take caution ). Warrior Cats and Wolf Call are two very different things. Wolf Call isn’t even a published work yet, but I thought I would talk about the back story of the main character, TwistedStalk! And Ivypool, who is featured in the Omen of the Stars series, and will star in the upcoming super edition, Ivypool’s Heart, will also be in this article!!! I will explain their strengths and weaknesses, seeing what they have in common, then talk about their personalities, and finally, in conclusion, compare them and talk about what I think would happen if Ivypool switched roles and was the main character of the Wolf Call series instead of my girl, Twisted! Now sit back and enjoy this article!
(As I edit and fix Wolf Call, book one, A River’s Rage, the plot + Twist’s back story may change with time)
TwistedStalk: TwistedStalk and GrayStone were a great litter-mate team and always defended each other from whatever dangers they faced. But then, after a sudden and terrible accident, TwistedStalk found herself alone. As she lay grieving and despairing, a white wolf named WindGust found her. She had only met WindGust a few times, and they had both been slightly hostile and territorial toward each other. Now WindGust had come to her with respect and sympathy. Soon after, she and him became mates. Finally at peace with her brother’s death, TwistedStalk’s life took a turn for the better. Though she still was uncomfortable with the idea of having pups, TwistedStalk was happy to spend a full season just with her mate. The two were now closer than even she and GrayStone had been. This bond was clearly deeper than most. Of course, TwistedStalk’s life never stayed happy. After a hunting disaster, resulting in her getting a deep wound on her shoulder, she found herself captured by humans (the Wolf Call characters know them as “no-snouts”) once again, and was flown away in another helicopter (giant-bird) toward a wolf sanctuary. Though she didn’t know it, the humans were trying to help her, but in Twisty’s eyes, she saw dangerous and threatening creatures attempting to rip her away from her mate. She was now miles and miles and miles away from her land—and worst of all, WindGust, the wolf that meant everything to her. Even if she did manage to escape, she would have to travel over dangerous and unknown territory. (And…. I’m not gonna spoil what happens next)
WARNING! The following may contain spoilers for OotS!!!
Ivypool: Feeling excluded and troubled as an apprentice, Ivypaw wanted a chance to prove her worth to ThunderClan. When she met a strange warrior named Hawkfrost, she didn’t back away from the opportunity to become a great warrior. But as she continued to train in the DF, she realized that the cats were really evil. Now a spy, risking her life every night to seek out information for ThunderClan, Ivypaw, now named Ivypool felt more important. Though she still felt resentful that her sis Dovewing was the cat of a prophecy, and had special powers, Ivypool now had found a place in her clan. She was able to warn the clans when the Dark Forest (DF) warriors came, and the clans were able to battle and defeat them. After the great battle, she had kits, one of which made a huge sacrifice for the clan. Now deputy to the leader Squirrelstar, Ivypool was able to make a huge impact on her ThunderClan, and help out in any way she could. Though she was a rude apprentice, she was able to swallow back her desires and become one of the most legendary warriors to live in ThunderClan.
Now that I have summed up both of the character’s stories, I will now begin on their strengths.
Ivypool: She is kind, not afraid to fight to protect cats she loves, a good fighter, agile, intelligent, loyal, capable, and can stay chill in most tough situations.
TwistedStalk: Not afraid to spill blood or even kill to protect herself or wolves she loves, intelligent, agile, can be kind, dominant, good at fighting, alert, quick, capable, VERY good sense of direction, doesn’t easily give up.
So Ivypool and TwistedStalk both are prepared to fight to protect their family or mates. They are also both good at fighting, are both capable, and both are agile.
Now that I have summed up how they relate in strengths, I will delve into their weaknesses…
TwistedStalk: Blunt, not the best at hunting, self-conflict, puts things off, says the opposite of what she really means for her own benefit, violence-first kind of wolf, sometimes overwhelmed by emotions.
Ivypool: Secretive, bratty, sometimes lets the emotions get the better of her, resentful, thinks she’s not good enough, annoying, snappy, slightly selfish as a ‘paw.
So here the two characters don’t really have that much similarities except how they let their emotions get the better of them sometimes. It’s a good thing that they are two separate characters, though. At the end, when I do the switch-role thing, it will be even more fun….
Now for their personalities!
TwistedStalk: Due to her troubled past, TwistedStalk is hostile to stranger wolves, and takes a while to get used to someone new. But with wolves she is comfortable with, she can be playful and kind, and always looks out for WindGust, as well as GrayStone when he was alive. TwistedStalk learns from her mistakes, is very intelligent, and always stands up for herself. She sometimes tends to offend or hurt the feelings of some wolves that aren’t used to her behaviour. She doesn’t like to admit when she is wrong or is bad at something, and always tries her best to leave a good impression on wolves she likes. Sometimes after a bad argument, she feels guilty, but tries to hide it, because she thinks it’s a sign of weakness. Though she has many flaws, TwistedStalk is a good wolf with good intentions, and has strong character development throughout ARR.
Ivypool: Ivypool used to be resentful and excluded when her sister was part of a prophecy and had powers, but as she grew more mature, she felt she had a better place in her clan. Ivypool is loyal, and kind to her clan. She is good at raising kits, but knows when to unsheathe her claws to protect ThunderClan. She is good at leading and very smart, but as an apprentice, she was slightly more sassy and annoying, constantly getting into arguments with her litter-mate Dovepaw(wing). Also as an apprentice, she had bad judgement, and couldn’t tell evil cats from good ones. But as a warrior, she became one of the most intelligent and keen cats in ThunderClan. Ivypool was able to grow, from being a awkward apprentice to an amazing deputy of ThunderClan.
Again, these two animals don’t really have anything in common. They both are intelligent, and both can be kind with wolves/cats they are comfortable with.
But what would happen if they switched roles?
IF IVYPOOL SWITCHED WITH TWISTEDSTALK:
TwistedStalk had, and will, in future Wolf Call books, face many dangers. In A River’s Rage, she had to survive a bear attack, escape a kennel, swim down a waterfall, and endure days of starvation. There was many more-including the climax which I will not give away-and TwistedStalk had to find a way to make it out alive from all of those. But what if Ivypool was a wolf, and the main character of A River’s Rage (ARR) instead?
Ivypool would probably be able to avoid days of starving, since Twisty isn’t the best at hunting. Of course, TwistedStalk knows how to bring down a caribou, and can easily outrun a hare, but she is better at fighting and defending herself. Part of the reason she got fatally wounded by a hunting accident. In Wolf Call, one slightest mistake and a wolf’s skull could be shattered. Ivypool, since she had to endure the Dark Forest every night, and needed to know if a situation was dangerous or not, would probably have better gut instinct than Twisted. She most likely would have known not to wander away from her pack, which pup-TwistedStalk did. That resulted in a bear attack that wounded both of her parents, and making it so that both of them couldn’t fight off an enemy pack. That would have changed the course of the whole story, because the bear attack had started it all. Twistywolf wouldn’t have been captured by the humans if her parents hadn’t been killed and then she wouldn’t have met her love Gusty and then… you get the point. If Ivy in wolf form would replace Twisty, then there would be a lot less gore ‘n dramatic heart-break stuff, and then the story would be boring. Sure, it would save the Wolf Call characters a lot of wounds and death, but no one wants a bland story. Heartbreak is one of the things that every story needs to grip the reader (unless it’s a little kid’s book, which Wolf Call and Warriors definitely is NOT).
