Hello! I’m April Song that Paints the Sky, or just April Song/Aprilsky for short. This is a compiled list of my favorite characters from Warriors, and why! I totally understand if you don’t agree with me, and after all these are just my opinions. Enjoy! Also, just a heads up, this article has spoilers for A Starless Clan.

Honorable mentions:

Brightheart

Brightheart definitely deserves a place on this list as a runner up, as I enjoy her character so much. She’s such a strong character for surviving everything she’s gone through! Her story is so inspiring and I love how she’s still able to live freely and not let her disability hold her back. Her endless optimism really made me love her in the first arc. I hope she gets a Novella at some point.

Briarlight

Much as Brightheart does, I feel that Briarlight was an absolutely amazing character. When she was alive, she never let her disability stop her from becoming both strong, physically and mentally. Again, it would be amaaaaazing to see a Novella about her, maybe even with a scene where she talks with Longtail in StarClan. Well, fanfiction does exist.

Brambleclaw

(WARNING: this one does discuss some themes of abuse and toxic relationships.)
Brambleclaw may be a bit controversial, but in my opinion, he’s a decent character. I really felt bad for him in ASC. I don’t want to get into the mishmoshed mess of Squirrelflight’s Hope, but all I have to say is from what I’ve heard, the book horrendously mischaracterizes a vast amount of characters from their main series personalities. “Oh, but he’s so cowardly for stepping down as leader, and he was abusive to squilf!” First of all, Brambleclaw literally had to watch himself be possessed and his own Clan nearly destroyed right before him, and he couldn’t do anything to stop it until he got his body back. Second of all, Squirrelstar and Branbleclaw were both toxic to eachother throughout the arcs. The books would have been better if they had never become mates in the first place.

Now, onto to real rankings.

5. Bristlefrost

Bristlefrost! In my opinion, she was a very good character in The Broken Code. I found much of her character very relatable, and she also felt like one of the only character with a spine she was a great character for her sacrifice. I wish there was more of her, but unfortunately she probably won’t be seen for a while. Although, what if she comes back in Star to finally resolve the problems in the Clans?
Seriously though, RiverClan. Is it really that hard to have a temporary leader while you wait for StarClan to answer?
Her relationship with Rootspring was pretty cute, too, though I wish she thought of more than just him in her final moment. Like, girl, you just saves the Clans and all you’re thinking about is Rootspring. All that aside, I really do like Bristlefrost, and she to say, she deserves a spot on this list.

4. Crookedstar

Crookedstar! Where do I start? After reading Crookedstar’s Promise, man, I love him. He’s so strong for enduring everything he went through, and I hope he’s happy with all his family in StarClan :). He was treated so unfairly all his kithood. I’m glad he got to show everyone who doubted him how strong he could be as a capable and wise leader. I really do hate Mapleshade, though. Like, getting revenge on your ex by manipulating his great grandson? No thanks. As a kit, he and Oakkit promised eachother to become leader and deputy. And Crookedstar kept his promise.

3. Moth Flight

When I read Moth Flight’s Vision, I genuinely related to Moth Flight so much. I see a lot of myself in her and it’s so sad that she didn’t feel accepted in WindClan for so much of her life. She never quite fit in, which is something I can relate to a lot. I don’t know how much she was screwed up in Squilf’s Hope, but from what I’ve heard, she was horribly mischaracterized. I’m glad Moth Flight was able to find a place in her Clan where she felt accepted, and who knows, maybe the same can happen for me.

2. Frostpaw

MY BABYYYY omg. I’m making my way through Thunder right now and someone PLEASE give Frostpaw a break. Much like Moth Flight, I find Frostpaw very relatable. Although, I feel like her ‘relationship’ with Splashtail is so forced and unnecessary. It’s like there can’t be a single she-cat in warriors who doesn’t have a love interest (dare I say, a love interest who provides nothing to either character.) Also, I feel like her and Shadowsight would be best friends. The Clans are so unfair to her, and I wish RiverClan can just say, “Alright, this a a responsible and trustworthy cat who can temporarily lead our Clan for as long as we need while we wait for a sign from StarClan to tell us who our leader should be” instead if putting the weight of the world on a literal apprentice!

1. Hollyleaf

Hollyleaf has to be my all-time favorite Warriors characters. I found her to be relatable while also not lacking a spine. The way she reacts to situations can relate deeply to me (not attempting to kill my mom or killing my adoptive mom’s salty hater) and I wish she survived longer after returning to ThunderClan. I don’t have that much to say anymore, but for Christmas I got a Hollyleaf plush, and I love her lmao
