Irispaw wonders if Stormtail was a good mate.
Good morning, afternoon, evening blogclanners! After a (very) long time, I am back with another article! My second one, actually. So, do remember that this is my opinion, please do not take it too seriously!
Let’s start! Stormtail was Moonflower’s mate and the father of Bluestar and Snowfur. He plays a small part on Bluestar’s prophecy, being some sort of an absent father.
To be honest with all of my dear blogclanners, I think he was a quite bad mate. Here are some reasons:
1. He did not visit his kits, Bluestar(fur) and Snowfur often. Moonflower said that he was an important warrior, but Adderfang visited his kits often, and he was probably also a senior warrior like Stormtail. No matter how important a warrior is, I believe that their kits should come first. In addition, I do not think ThunderClan was in a very serious or dangerous situation at the moment. He was also very absent and also had quite high expectations for Bluefur and Snowfur. Bluefur really wanted to impress her father, which does not really add into a healthy father-daughter relationship.
2. He evidently liked Dappletail, even when she was an apprentice. I disliked how he was right next to her during Moonflower’s vigil. Even though he might have needed support, it just felt very uncomfortable. Some time later, the book reads that the clan thought Dappletail and Stormtail might have kits soon, which just feels… you know.
3. Moonflower liked Stormtail when she was an apprentice, and so did Dappletail. It still feels very awkward, like Ferncloud and Dustpelt. Liking an apprentice is rather… eh. I remember somewhere that one of the erins said apprentices were like teenagers. It is even worse with Dappletail, because she was much younger than Moonflower. She might not have even been in Stormtail’s generation. Even though she became a warrior soon after, it still feels very strange because Stormtail had been a warrior a much longer time than her.
4. Moonflower’s like of Stormtail caused a big rift between her and Goosefeather. Stormtail was obviously mean to her OWN BROTHER. Yes, sometimes blood isn’t always thicker but in this situation, I think Goosefeather was right about Stormtail being not exactly a good cat.
That’s all I have, please inform me if I missed anything!

Great article, Irispaw! I agree – Stormtail wasn’t a very good father or mate.
At least in Moonflower’s situation, Stormtail and Moonflower shared the apprentices’ den for a while, meanwhile Dappletail was much younger (the wiki says Moonflower was 4.6 years old when she died, so Stormtail was like, middle-aged when he started pursuing Dappletail romantically 🤢) so, icky age-gap icky
Great article! I agree with everything you said, I don’t like Stormtail and I wish there was a novella/SE for him to explain his actions.
Cool article! I personally like Stormtail based on what I’ve read in Goosefeather’s novella… maybe cuz I hate Goosefeather :’3
Goosefeather’s Curse Stormtail and Bluestar’s Prophecy Stormtail are pretty much different characters. One’s brash and confident, the other’s stoic and distant.
I agree with this. Great article!
Great article! I never really thought too much about this, but I think you had some very valid points which have prompted me to think of Stormtail in a harsher light.
Nice article! You made some pretty good points 🙂
Nice article!
Nice job!
Really good article! One of the first things I noticed when reading Bluestar’s Propechy was how absemt Stormtail was, hardly even talking to his kits
(and, if I remember correctly, he just shrugged off Moonflower’s passing)
I did not like Stormtail. I agree with all of your points. Great article!
Actually, Dappletail wasn’t an apprentice at that time, she was a warrior. It’s a common misconception because Dappletail and Stormtail were seen practicing battle moves before the battle with Windclan, but she was a warrior at the start of Bluestar’s Prophecy.
