Problems with Firestar’s family, and why Poppyfrost is so unique by Lynxclaw

Lynxclaw lays out Firestar’s family tree and highlights Poppyfrost’s status within ThunderClan.

Hello BlogClan! After a little pause, Lynxclaw is back with a new article! This is my fourteenth, actually, and my first I write as a warrior 🙂 Today I’ll talk about Firestar’s family tree, and problems with it. Let’s start!
If you are wondering why Poppyfrost is on the cover, we’ll come to that later.

Firestar was born to Nutmeg and Jake alongside his littermates; Filou, Tommy, Luna and Princess. His mate was Sandstorm, and together they had Leafpool and Squirrelstar.
Leafpool mated with Crowfeather, and their kits were Hollyleaf, Lionblaze and Jayfeather.
Squirrelstar mated with Bramblestar, and their kits were Alderheart, Sparkpelt, Dandelionkit and Juniperkit.
Lionblaze was the only one of Leafpool’s kits who had his own kits. Though, he makes up for it with his six kits! Fernsong, Hollytuft, Sorrelstripe, Flywhisker, Snaptooth and Spotfur.
Out of Lionblaze and Cinderheart’s kits, Fernsong, Sorrelstripe and Spotfur had their own kits.
Fernsong and Ivypool had Flipclaw, Bristlefrost and Thriftear.
Sorrelstripe and Dewnose had Myrtlebloom and Bayshine.
Spotfur and Stemleaf had Bristlekit, Stemkit and Greykit.
None of them has had kits yet, done with Lionblaze’s offspring!

Okay, back to Squirrelstar’s kits. Sparkpelt had three kits with Larksong; Nightheart, Finchlight and Flickerkit.
Alderheart, Juniperkit and Dandelionkit didn’t get any kits, and Finchlight and Nightheart haven’t had any kits yet.
SPOILER
I think Moonpaw (in Changing Skies) will be Sunbeam and Nightheart’s kit…

Now to Princess’s part of the family! She and Oliver had Livy, Zack, Taylor, Nami and Cloudtail. Cloudtail is the only one of them who we know had kits. He and Brightheart had Whitewing, Dewnose, Ambermoon and Snowbush.
Whitewing and Birchfall were the parents of Ivypool and Dovewing.
Dovewing and Tigerstar had Shadowsight, Pouncestep, Lightleap, Birchkit and Rowankit.
Ivypool and Fernsong had…wait a minute. Haven’t we done them already? So Ivypool and Fernsong are third cousins, and they’re mates… Well-

Snowbush and Lilyheart had Leafshade, Honeyfur and Larksong together.
Larksong and Sparkpelt were mates. But we have already done their kits. Do you see the problem?

Dewnose and Sorrelstripe were also mates, parents to Bayshine and Myrtlebloom. But they’re also related! This is the third time we have found this problem!

So, Firestar’s bloodline cross three times! And we haven’t even thought about Sandstorm’s yet! Her parents were Redtail and Brindleface, she was Ashfur, Elderkit, Tulipkit and Ferncloud’s sister. Ferncloud had tons of kits! Everyone is related to this family!
Ferncloud and Dustpelt had Spiderleg, Shrewpaw, Birchfall, Hollykit, Larchkit, Icecloud and Foxleap.
Out of these, only Spiderleg and Birchfall had kits.
Spiderleg mated with Daisy and had Rosepetal and Toadstep. Neither one of Spiderleg’s kits had kits.
Birchfall mated with Whitewing (who is Firestar kin through Cloudtail), and they had Ivypool and Dovewing. We don’t need to do their families, because we have done them already! (*sigh*)

Okay, this was complicated. Let’s make it easier to understand;
List of cats in ThunderClan (as of Wind) who aren’t related to Firestar:
Birchfall (but he’s Whitewing’s mate)
Mousewhisker (his parents were loners)
Poppyfrost
Bumblestripe (his mother was a former kittypet)
Cherryfall (dad was born as loner)
Molewhisker (dad was born as loner)
Cinderheart (her mate is Lionblaze)
Blossomfall (her mother was a former kittypet)
Eaglewing (mom is half kittypet)
Stormcloud (he’s a former kittypet)
Twigbranch (she has SkyClan blood)
Finleap (he is former SkyClan)
Shellfur (mom is half kittypet)
Fernstripe (she is former WindClan)
Plumstone (mom is half kittypet)
Sunbeam (former ShadowClan, and Nightheart’s mate)
Wafflepaw (former park cat)
Daisy (she is a former loner)
Thornclaw
Brightheart (she’s Cloudtail’s mate)
Brackenfur
Brambleclaw (but he’s Squirrelstar’s mate)

Only Poppyfrost, Thornclaw and Brackenfur of the ThunderClan cats today are pure ThunderClan blood, and they aren’t related to Firestar, or mates with one who is.
Wow. Almost whole of ThunderClan is related to Firestar, so many that the young mate with their distant kin.

Moving on to another problem…
Firestar’s family is basically royalty. Nightheart was right about that. Think about this:
ThunderClan leader: Squirrelstar
Deputy: Ivypool
Medicine cats: Jayfeather, Alderheart.

Hmmm…
All characters with important positions are Firestar’s kin!

Time to wrap this up:
Firestar has a lot of relatives.
Poppyfrost is the only non-elder and truly-ThunderClan-blood cat, who isn’t related to Firestar! (*everyone cheers for Poppyfrost*)
All the important ranks are Firestar’s kin.
