Spottedleaf’s Legacy by Firefeather

Firefeather takes a look at what Spottedleaf had done throughout the series.

Spottedleaf was only a living character in “Into the Wild” – but she did so much more as a character in StarClan. What did she do exactly? Well, here’s a short list:

1. Give Firepaw/Fireheart/Firestar VERY helpful warnings.
2. Give Firestar a life for love.
3. Be Firepaw/Fireheart/Firestar’s first love….
4. Help the injured and the sick as a medicine cat

But, after being murdered by Clawface, she turns out to be a little more useful in StarClan than in real life. Sure, she was a great medicine cat and an even better pick-me-up for young Firepaw, but she did something even more crucial than that: She gave the prophecy that the whole Prophecies Begin series focuses on: “Fire alone with save our Clan.” And, with that prophecy, influenced Bluestar’s last words: “Fire will save the Clan…you never understood, did you? Not even when I gave you your apprentice name, Firepaw. And I doubted it myself, when fire raged through our camp. Yet I see the truth now. Fireheart, you are the fire that will save ThunderClan. You will be a great leader. One of the greatest the forest has ever known. You will have the warmth of fire to protect your Clan and the fierceness of fire to defend it. You will be Firestar, the light of ThunderClan.” These last words of Bluestar’s were very touching, especially considering how devastated Fireheart had been after her death. But, Fireheart went on to lead ThunderClan, and earned his nine lives and the suffix -star.
When Firestar went to share dreams with StarClan at the Moonstone, he saw all of the cats he had never thought to see again: Redtail, Lionheart, Yellowfang, Swiftpaw, Runningwind, Silverstream, Brindleface, Bluestar, and, of course, Spottedleaf. Spottedleaf gave him a life for love – which meant more to Firestar than all of his other lives. This one didn’t even pain him – it was even described as “the warmth of the high sun in greenleaf.”
So – we can all agree Spottedleaf played a pretty important character in the Prophecies Begin arc. After all…
Who would’ve thought that a kittypet that was barely six moons old would have been involved in a prophecy that the powerful ThunderClan medicine cat had had? Well, at first, no one. But Spottedleaf trusted Firepaw: the fire that would, long after her death, save ThunderClan.
