Jackdawpaw and Juniperpaw shares their thoughts on Omen of the Stars, Dawn of the Clans, A Vision of Shadows, and The Broken Code.
SPOILER ALERT: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS OF THE ARCS OMEN OF THE STARS-THE BROKEN CODE.
Hi everyone and welcome to part 2 of Jackdawpaw and Juniperpaw rating warriors arcs up to A Starless Clan!
1. Omen of the Stars – 9.5/10
Juniperpaw: 9.5/10
Oh, now we’re talking. Ahh! I wholeheartedly love this arc, which is a problem, because I am up for a challenge (Not to write a whole book in this part)
So, you know how I mentioned that I adored the buildup from Power of Three, that they knew what was coming? Well, in the beginning of the fourth apprentice, the search for the third cat smoothly blooms into the quick realization that it’s Dovewing and what her powers are. To top it all off, comes with a beautiful perspective of the third cat, and an interesting minor quest to get the series going. I also love how they progressively prepare for the battle against the Dark Forest, and unravel that it indeed is the dark forest they will be fighting against, and continue to unite the clans. Basically the only thing that bothers me with this is Flametail’s stupidity after his death, and that even Starclan, the supposedly all-knowing, wise, higher power that cannot be bothered by such simple, living world things as Clan hostility, divided themselves after clans because they all went mental. That’s it.
Jackdawpaw: 9.5/10
Yeah, what can I say, you’re right, Junes! It’s a really good arc. I especially love seeing things from Ivypool’s perspective, and her situation in the Dark Forest is almost the best part of the entire arc! I also love the part with Flametail a lot (the part when he is alive and sort of a main character, not when he’s dead cause just as for Junie him accusing Jayfeather really disturbs me). His death really shook me. I also love that there’s always something happening in this arc, but still, it’s all part of the main plot (though the travel to the mountains was a bit out there).
Juniperpaw: I agree, Jack o’lantern. Especially (as I’ve mentioned) the part when you stated that everything’s a part of the plot (unlike Power of Three. Whew.)
2. Dawn of the Clans: ∞/10
Jackdawpaw: ∞/10
So, here comes my challenge not to write a whole book! This arc is AMAZING!!! I must admit, though, that in the beginning of The Sun Trail I was a bit reluctant to continue reading, as I kind of doubted the story and the characters. But this was only for like two chapters, and then I was completely hooked. And, well, if I was “hooked” in the first book, I don’t know what I was in the rest of the series. I’m crazy about this arc. I love it so, so much, and there are lots of points I want to bring up here, but I’ll try to keep it short: What I’m actually quite proud of is that I did have a slightly bad feeling about Clear Sky from the very beginning of the first book. Gray Wing just kind of seemed like a nice guy, while Clear Sky seemed to have a bit of… I don’t know, what do you call it, an ego? Attitude? Anyways, something about him seemed a bit off, and apparently, I was right! Suddenly, that formerly so close brother of Gray Wing’s was a mad murderer who only cared about territory. Like, YOU PROMISED TO LET THE MOOR CATS HAVE FREE ACCESS!!! Okay, okay, I’ll try to calm down a bit… I guess I got into a tantrum… and it most likely will happen again… Anyways, I, um, dislike Skystar, but however, it’s an incredible story and, after all, he still turns out a good cat in the end (though I still think it would have been better if he just fell off a cliff on the way to the moor or got grabbed by an eagle something). Another part I love in the story is Thunder’s life! The poor kit doesn’t know where his loyalties lie, he gets betrayed first by his father and then by Star Flower. I’m not going to talk about Star Flower though, and Junes, please don’t do that either! We’ve already written a whole article about that!
Juniperpaw: As a matter of fact, I wasn’t planning on doing that….sigh. But go on.
Jackdawpaw: Oki! So, never mind Star Flower. We can bring up Windstar’s story! Or Slate’s! Or the rest of Gray Wing’s! Or, why not Jagged Peak and Holly? Or Riverstar? Or Tall Shadow, Moon Shadow, and Sun Shadow? Oh, and I LOVE LIGHTNING TAIL!
Juniperpaw: CUT. Jack o’lantern, you’re a Halloween pumpkin. Pumpkins don’t have brain blasts because of an idea overload. Easy there.
Jackdawpaw: FINE. But if you don’t mind, I’m a jackdaw, not a pumpkin. *Sulks* Okay, it’s probably best for all of us if I just pass over the pen to you now… I’ll get overexcited. BUT I’ll have to bring all those points up in another article! Like, “Why Dawn of the Clans is the Best Arc” or something… geez. I’m exhausted. Over to you, Junes.
Juniperpaw: 11/10
Mhm…No. I’m still going to refer to you as a Halloween pumpkin. Goodness. I’ll have to bring you over to the medicine den to get you checked up…
Now about the actual book series. I agree with everything, And I too had a really bad vibe with Clear Sky. He just seemed like some wannabe tryhard “I’ll take charge now” when it was Shaded Moss who got chosen to lead the party. Eugh. While we’re still talking about the journey, “The Sun Trail” was so good that I even needed about fifteen minutes to just cry and recover from Bright Stream’s death. Man! I could not stop thinking about her. She did not deserve that gruesome death, And I absolutely CANNOT STAND the thought of those disgusting, ravenous eagles…ew. SHE SHOULD HAVE LIVED AND HAD HER KITS. SHE WAS JUST SO SELFLESS AND SACRIFICED HERSELF KNOWING THAT SHE WAS WEAKENED. JUSTICE FOR BRIGHT STRE (JACKDAWPAW HELP)
Jackdawpaw: Easy, easy. Yes, Bright Stream died an unfair death, and it’s okay to be sad, but you’ll have to move on. If it helps, Clear Sky became very sad when she died, and you hate Clear Sky, right? Try to remember his sadness instead of yours, and then maybe Bright Stream’s death will be a memory of joy! (Oh, gosh, maybe I should become a therapist?)
Juniperpaw: RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Jackdawpaw: Okay JEEZ Junes CALM DOWN! We’re writing an article here and we’ve probably dropped like 75% of the readers already! Jeez.
Juniperpaw: Aw 🙁
Okay then. *sniff* if I must. *sniff*
Well, I love the plot and everything. Awesome. One of the things I absolutely adore during the end of the first battle when Clear sky kind of realized the classic villain “What have I done!?” But instead of a lightning bolt cracking the tower of the villain in half and them running away in fear to accidentally do a front flip down the tower, he stayed and acknowledged his faults. I mean, he should have literally BAWLED with remorse, but hey, it’s better than nothing!
As for the rest, I can’t say anything else except for that I love the books. Great! Perfect! Lovely! Amazing! Awesome! Star striking! G… Okay, I should probably stop before Jackdawpaw gets back. Whew.
3. A Vision of Shadows – 8.5/10
Jackdawpaw: 8.5/10
So, since Juniperpaw hasn’t yet read AVoS, I’m on my own this time! (Thank StarClan!) So, overall, this is a very good arc, in my opinion! Especially since I like all the main characters. Mostly, I love Alderheart, he’s a great character, quite basic, but still just a nice guy. He’s the type of cat who could have had the prefix ‘breeze (meaning he’s a calm and sensible character), and I love that. Violetshine is also a nice character, and I feel really sorry for her. She’s obviously had a tougher life than her sister and she deserves better, but at last she finds home in SkyClan with Tree and her father and the rest of her kin except Twigbranch. I think that’s wonderful. I like Twigbranch less, but she’s kind of neutral to me, though she’s a bit selfish, stupid, bad mentor… okay, maybe I don’t like her after all. But, hey, the two other characters are good, so that’s still 66%! And I miss Needletail A LOT! I think it’s overall a very good story with Darktail and Onestar, too, and SkyClan returning is also nice. (The most disturbing part according to me is ShadowClan becoming nonexistent, or Onestar refusing to share lungwort.) But, as I said, overall, AVoS is a very good arc!
4. The Broken Code – 8.5/10
Juniperpaw: Thank you for that, Jac- Excuse me!? Personally I don’t think pumpkins can rate arcs without a fellow companion! >:(
Well, onto the broken code that Jacky hasn’t read yet. I really, really like the end book of this arc (A light in the mist) (Poor lights in the mist! :<) Although I don’t really fancy the first three books, I LOVE the fourth, fifth, and sixth books. Okay, to be honest, I don’t know how to feel about a light in the mist. I love it, and how the final battle kind of comes closer, but I CANNOT with Bristlefrost’s death. I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT. I cried so hard that it’s a miracle my body still contains water. I don’t think I’ve ever cried that much before. Oh poor, poor Rootspring. I cried for her, I cried for him, but most of all I cried for their ship and for her family. WHY? WHY DID YOU HAVE TO DIE. Ashfur was one of my favourite villains before, but after Bristlefrost? Good lord how I hate him. One thing though: I literally can’t believe that Bristlefrost just chose to give up like that. I can’t believe that she stopped fighting and just chose to die. I CAN’T DECIDE IF I LOVE HER OR BEYOND HATE HER BECAUSE OF THAT. I was so mad I even thought about writing a fanfiction where Bristlefrost kept fighting to stay alive and actually made it. OAAAAAAAOOOORAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH BRISTLEFROST!
Hrm. That’ it.
Jackdawpaw: Junes, we’ll have to continue our beef somewhere else, like, not in this article. And we’re finally done! I do hope someone made it to the end! Jackdawpaw out!
Juniperpaw: Juniperpaw out!
GREAT ARTICLE i love aVoS, and alderboi and Violetgurl 🙂 Also arent those like the only 2 cats in the series with those prefixes or is it just me- Anyways.. BRISTLEGIRLY USED TO BE MY FAVOURITE BEFORE HER DEATH NOW SHE’S MY 5TH BC OF HER GIVING UP AND BEING STUPID ABT CLAN SWITCHING- other than that shes a great gurl!
