-Flamesong- defends Bluestar and her decisions.
I’m -Flamesong-, and I’m bringing you a detailed article about why Bluestar should be more loved. She’s my favorite warrior cat, and she’s a great character. People don’t like her because of her decisions, and I’m going to justify her actions.
“She interfered with Snowfur’s life too much.” Bluestar interferes with Snowfur’s love life and judges her. While this would seem bad because Snowfur and Thistleclaw legitimately loved each other, Bluestar was just looking out for Snowfur. And honestly, Bluestar’s like an older sister to Snowfur. Bluestar can’t stand the thought of her getting hurt in her life. She genuinely loves Snowfur and is fond of her. That’s why Bluestar went through a depression stage when her sister died and partly why she took care of Whitestorm.
“She had a mate(Oakheart) who was from Riverclan (an enemy clan at the time).” Well, Blue x Oak is a really cute ship, (but not more than Bright x Cloud). And lots of cats had mates in different clans – Leafpool and Crowfeather, Graystripe and Silverstream, and not to mention Stormfur and Brook. Open your eyes! Bluestar should not be hated for this. She even tried not to like him! But they fell in love, and cats can’t control their feelings! People can’t do that, either! Bluestar didn’t run off with him, Bluestar didn’t plan on having kits with him, and she promised Moonflower and Snowfur that they would only be together for one night. ONE NIGHT! Bluestar still remained loyal to her clan unlike some other cats in the past and maybe future. She could have ran off with him or kept on meeting him, but she didn’t.
“She gave her kits to Oakheart!” Oakheart’s the father, too! He’s not a stranger. Bluestar loved her kits so much. “So much that one of them died in the process?” She didn’t mean for Mosskit to die! And the process was essential to the plot of Warriors. “Why didn’t she wait for the circumstances (weather) to be different?” She couldn’t! Later that day, Sunstar could have named the deputy, Bluestar had to do it then! “She assumed that it would be her or Thistleclaw.” This is a very reasonable thought. Sunstar was looking for someone with youth and leadership, and the two best cats for this were Thistleclaw and Bluestar. Besides, everyone was already talking about how Thistleclaw would be deputy and how he brags about it. She didn’t have much of a choice. This act was her being loyal, yet people still hate on her for not being loyal!
She had depression, couldn’t deal with grief well, and had a mental illness. She has a right to be depressed! Her mom died in battle, Snowfur got hit by a monster (and got blamed for it), wasn’t able to have Oakheart by her side, and not to mention, Sweetpaw- she was one of Bluestar’s friends, and even seeing Rosetail (Bluestar’s bestie) whom Bluestar holds close, grieve and be so sad must of made Bluestar feel worse along with Sweetpaw’s death. So I don’t see why you would get mad at her for being depressed. And since Bluestar didn’t get a break from cats dying, she couldn’t handle it well. Some cats just can’t. But she didn’t go on a revenge streak. She didn’t let all this sorrow and pain make her a villian. And, she probably felt like everything was collapsing and crumbling. I can’t believe that she didn’t become evil after all of this. Then, later, she trusts Tigerclaw, and that backfires, as you should know. And because of all of this, she suffers from dementia.
What a hard life! And, must I remind you, that Bluestar is crucial to the plot of Warriors. Without her there wouldn’t be Stonefur, who sacrificed his life to protect Feathertail and Stormfur, Mistystar, and Firestar + all of his descendants (that means Squirrelflight, Leafpool, Alderheart, and Sparkpelt). Think about it! The plot of the Warriors saga without these cats?
And, I must admit, yes Bluestar could have done things differently. But after seeing all of this, you should evaluate her as a good cat and character who tries to stay loyal even if it hurts. Thank you for reading this article and I hope you got something out of it (preferably love for Bluestar).
Bluestar’s Prophecy was the first Warriors book I ever read, so I will always have a soft spot for her. The only thing I really hold against her is what she did to Brightheart, and I think she’s just a complicated character who ultimately did more good than bad in her life and shouldn’t be treated as a hero or a villain. I love how this article highlighted that Bluestar was constantly forced into hard decisions with no good choices, but still tried to do what she thought was right in every situation.
