Heyyy, here is Yarrowpaw with her very first article!! Today, I will tell you some wrong translated warriors’ names in romanian, my native language, and my opinion about them. I read Warrior Cats first in romanian, and when I started to read Warriors Wiki in English, I got surprised, because of the wrong translation of the names. CREDITS TO LINXPAW, who wrote an article “Weird warrior names translated in Swedish” or something like this, I dont remember exactly. From them I got this idea, I wish you like it!! (SPOILER ALERT DoC, TPB, AVoS, TNP and PoT)
First of all, I will start with Gray Wing’s sons
Black Ear= Ureche Tuciurie (Grimy Ear). It could be Ureche Neagră. Now, I think most of y’all dont know what is grimy, so let me explain, grimy is a dark tone of gray, nearly black. In romanian, black is negru, so when I find out about this, I got dissapointed, because it took weeks until I found out about the grimy meaning.
White Tail= Coadă Argintie (Silvertail). For us, white is alb, and this is very dissapointing, too. It could be Coadă Albă. I was like “Oh my StarClan, these people dont know the colors, I should go to teach them which is white and which is silver” 🙂
Now, we move on to
Runningnose= Mucea (Snot), a very disgusting, but kinda funny name, dont you think? In my language, Runningnose means Nas Alergator, in English, it would be like Run, Nose, you can win this competition! But, in Runningnose case, it would be Nas curgător. It is hard to explain this in romanian… I laughed until I cried when I read it first time, but I felt so sorry for the med.

But we are not done, the next one is
Floss= Puf (Fluff). Normal, Floss in romanian would be Ață Dentară (Dental Floss). This name is better than the original one, I really like it.
Dustpelt= Blană Pământie (Sallowpelt). In romanian, dust means praf, so his original name would be Blană de Praf. I dont know what to think about this one. On one way, I am dissapointed because I didnt get the original name, but on the other way, the dust is really annoying me, so… you got it.
Willowpelt=Blană Albastră (Bluefur). I got very angry this time… willow is one of my favorite type of trees and one of my favorite prefix, willow in romanian is salcie. Her name could be Blană de Salcie. I screamed in my pillow, because my favourite prefix, willow, got ignored by… I will name the ones who translated the books, Galaxypool, dont ask why.
Poppyfrost and Hawkfrost= Mac de zăpadă (Snowpoppy) and Șoim de zăpadă (Snowhawk). This ones are more better than the original names, my opinion. The names would be Îngheț de Mac and Îngheț de Șoim. Galaxypool, this time you did a great job.
Bristlefrost (Bristlekit, the books in romanian are translated until book 36) = Pui de Limba-Peștelui (Tongue of the fish kit). Hard to understand? The tongue of the fish is a beautiful flower, what can be white, pink or purple. This name suits her, but, if it was like the original, it would be Pui de Păr. I really like this name, but the original is good, too.
Jackdaw’s Cry= Strigăt de Stăncuță (Daw’s Cry). This one is much better than the original, because in romanian, jackdae means, in fact, copacă, a similar meaning has tree, so, dont expect the tree to cry…
And the last one
Quiet Rain= Ploaie Domoală (Gentle Rain). So, here, quiet, in fact, means liniștit, so her original name would be Ploaie Liniștită. Not a big mistake. I dont care about htis mistake, I think I love Galaxypool’s version more.
This is the final, byee!
Oh, I found out about a melody named in romanian “Oriunde ai fi”, which means wherever you are, and its lyrics are like:
Wherever you are,
I will find you
Wherever you can be,
I will love you (it doesnt rhyme, but anyways)
And I immediately thought about Bristlefrost and the fandom.
