Who Chose who in Love Triangles in Afterlives by Goldenpaw

Goldenpaw shares their thoughts on love triangles and their preferred pairings in these love triangles.

As you know, love triangles are when a cat chooses multiple cats in their lifetime to be with in a romantic way. I will discuss lot of the important ones. As you know, Firestar chose Sandstorm, who he was always gonna choose. Spottedleaf was already dead, a medicine cat in Starclan, and died again.

Who did Graystripe choose?

Here’s a theory from Reddit: “To be honest. I think Graystripe chooses Firestar. Then Sandstorm, Millie, Silverstream form a poly lisbean relationship.” Wow…Reddit…are you okay… (kidding no offense)…First off, Firestar already chose Sandstorm as officially revealed in Squirrelflight’s Hope. Second, Millie and Silverstream never interacted. Anyway, it is said that Graystripe was reunited with his two loves and the two daughters gone before him in The Ultimate Guide Updated and Expanded. But Silverstream is bitter about Gray x Millie, so it’s possible she avoids Millie. I think if Graystripe only chose Millie, it would make Silverstream’s death all in vain. She loved someone and died having his two kids just for him to only pick someone else in the end that ironically looks like her. So Graystripe chooses both, but Silverstream avoids Millie and steals Graystripe away whenever Millie isn’t around. (I wonder how Silverstream treats Briarlight in Starclan)

Who did Skystar choose?

He had three different mates. Bright Stream, Storm, and Star Flower. I think it’s Star Flower only. He and Bright Stream treated their unborn kits like trash. Bright Stream allowed herself to go hunting even though she was aware of her kits inside of her, and Clear Sky also knew, yet he and her allowed herself to hunt an eagle. Miscommunication??? So it can’t be Bright Stream, even if she had Skystar’s kits in Starclan; Tiger Tail and Pale Sky. Bright Stream was just a boring character who made a weird decision to hunt while expecting, and she and her unborn kits died. Storm never seemed like Clear Sky’s true love. It was love at first sight, then she realized her mate was trash. Clear Sky even allowed Storm to walk away even with what happened with Bright Stream and their kits. That decision caused the death of Rumble and Lightning, Thunderstar’s two littermates. So Storm is a no. Star Flower, on the other hand, was there for Clear Sky. Despite the weird age gap since she’s around Thunder’s age, and the fact that she settled for her ex-boyfriends dad is weird, but she still loved him. Star Flower even stood up for Clear Sky when he indirectly killed Micah. Even though it was Clear Sky’s fault, she still has the nerve to say to Moth Flight “You are angry. A cat you loved has died. But is it fair to blame Clear Sky? Or Red Claw? Do you blame the tree?” Even though Clear Sky was wrong by sending Red Claw up the rotten tree to stop Micah from grabbing honey, she still had the guts to defend him. She and Clear Sky even had two litters of kits. They were happy no matter what. (Second litter unknown) So I believe it’s Star Flower. (But I hate her for standing up for Clear Sky when he killed Micah instead of yelling at him and for not slapping some sense into it)

Who did Crowfeather choose?
Crowfeather is in a similar situation as Skystar. Well, it’s not Nightcloud for sure. He randomly chose her to prove his loyalty. They had zero chemistry, and they argued and disagreed until Crowfeather’s Trial. Even when they agreed to get along, she still said no to being mates. Crowfeather agreed. Feathertail or Leafpool? Leafpool has time on her side. She was with Crowfeather in secret for almost a year??? 9 months??? And she still loved him, still looked at him in Gatherings, and worried about him. Feathertail, though, helped Crowfeather be less shy and less mean. She helped Crowfeather be Crowfeather. But Feathertail accepted her destiny as not being his mate, and congratulated Leafpool when her kits were born. Feathertail even said she wanted Crowfeather to be happy with someone else. And she chose to mostly reside in the Tribe of Endless Hunting. Not Starclan. So how could she and Crowfeather mostly be together? I think it’s Leafpool. I think.

Who did Gray Wing choose?

As we know, Turtle Tail wanted a future with Gray Wing. He turned her over twice because he loved Bright Stream and Storm. Tbh, Storm kinda seemed to think Gray Wing as a friend, not a mate, because Storm chose Clear Sky. But Turtle Tail and Gray Wing fell for each other even when Turtle Tail mated with Tom. Gray Wing was the best father to her adopted kits, Owl Eyes, Sparrow Fur, and Pebble Heart. He was such a good dad that Owl Eyes and Sparrow Fur became clan leaders! TWO OF HIS ADOPTED KITS BECAME CLAN LEADERS LIKE WHAAAT WARRIOR CAT RECORD. But Slate was this grumpy she-cat who was like, “You’re cool, and I’m cool.” And then she was like “I WUV YOU!” It was pretty cute when she crushed on him, and she was the cat that helped Gray Wing become an biological dad when she had his kits: Black Ear, White Tail, and Silver Stripe. I think Gray Wing chose both. Since he died waaaaay before Slate, I assume he and Turtle Tail continued their relationship in Starclan, and added Slate to it when she died. (I like Turtle Tail better than Slate.

Who did Berrynose Choose?

First off, I like to say Honeyfern’s death could have been prevented if Leafpool reacted faster and attempted to drain her bloodstream. Goosefeather managed to do it for Smallear (it was a small adder but still very dangerous) and if lazy Goosefeather managed to do it, why not Leafpool? Instead she started at Cinderheart the whole time Honeyfern wailed. Really??? That’s weird! When Sorretail asks why Leafpool didn’t do anything, Leafpool says “I’m afraid we’re far too late now the poison has taken hold of her.” YOUR TOO LATE YOU JUST STOOD THERE FOR HALF A PAGE! And Lionblaze could’ve taken the blow but anyway, I think Berrynose chooses Poppyfrost. Why? Well Berrynose and Honeyfern didn’t become official mates, instead they became good friends who discussed having kits. Poppyfrost and Berrynose got together a year and a half later since they got together in The Fourth Apprentice. Berrynose betrayed Honeyfern by doing this. It shows he was so desperate for a mate and having kits by getting with her quite quickly. Honeyfern died in Sunrise, and Berrynose gets together with her sister in the next book. So, Berrynose never really loved Honeyfern, and he chose Poppyfrost.

Who did Thistleclaw choose if he did go to Starclan?
Thistleclaw is creepy. He fell in love with a cat a year and a half younger than him, then fell for a cat about 6 years younger than him? I think he would’ve chosen Snowfur. Spottedleaf was still alive when he died, and they never actually became mates. They hoped for it and had romance, but Spottedpaw chose a path as a medicine cat instead and she avoided Thistleclaw. Snowfur’s time was short, but she helped Thistleclaw see his calm, sweet, good side. And Thistleclaw grieved so much, and I believe Snowfur and him would’ve been together if Thistleclaw didn’t go to hell aka the Dark Forest aka The Place of No Stars.

Who did Jake choose?
It was mentioned in Pinestar’s Choice that Jake was mooning over Quince. But after she has his kits, he mates with Nutmeg and Firestar was in their litter. I feel like Quince was cheated on, and Jake chose Nutmeg because she was a tortoiseshell and much prettier than gray Quince. So Jake is with Nutmeg.

Who did Willowpelt choose?

Willowpelts first mate was Tawnyspots and they had Darkstripe. Her second mate is unknown and they had Graystripe. Her third mate was Whitestorm and they had Sorreltail, Rainwhisker, and Sootfur. Tawnyspots died years before, and Whitestorm seemed quite close to Willowpelt. He may have fathered Graystripe due to their similar appearance, but when Graystripe was Graypaw, Whitestorm’s litter with Brindleface was born. So Whitestorm and Willowpelt went through a breakup? I think Willowpelt chooses Whitestorm.
