Hello! My name is Pelicanpaw, and I would like to share why I dislike squirrelflight.
She ignored Bramblestar to trust Tigerstarheart and she doesn’t anyways. I feel like she villainized Bramblestar’s family when all he wanted to do was spend more time with his kin.
She is manipulative. In Squirrelflights Hope, on the way to the gathering Squirrelflight was talking about having more kits, and that is totally fine. Bramblestar gets uncomfortable about the topic which is also fine, and refuses because he didn’t want more lives at stake along with the clan. Because of that, Squirrelflight thinks Bramble might take another mate and have kits. I find that kind of manipulative.
Squirrelflight made Lionblaze her temporary deputy in the broken code. Now I find that selfish because Lionblaze is really close to her and doesn’t really trust anyone else. I feel like that is untrustworthy even for a temporary deputy.
Squirrelflight tells Bramblestar that Hawk is a bad cat but she doesn’t give him any facts or information to decide for himself. The only points she gives him is “Leafpool has a bad feeling about him” or “Isn’t it obvious?” So he refuses to believe her. In her defense, he is being a little naive at some points, mainly in the Starlight battle for one.
When they go to the gathering they have different opinions on the border situation and have a small argument when leaving. I think both cats are entitled to their own opinion!
They get caught by the Sisters who are living on the territory out there and then are let go when a ThunderClan patrol arrives searching for them. Bramblestar gets angry at her for not talking about the idea with him first and Squirrelflight is upset that he is angry. In the book there are times Squirrelflight brings up having more kits or helping the Sisters whenever they aren’t arguing which constantly leads to Bramblestar getting angry and upset with her, him saying something hurtful, and then Squirrelflight getting upset at him. It happens constantly.
I also want to say that this is just my opinion! And I don’t mean to upset anyone that actually likes Squirrelflight.

However I strongly disagree. I don’t know what you mean about the Tigerheart/star thing but Squirrelflight just thinks about Bramblestar having another mate and kits, she doesn’t try to guilt trick him. I think she made Lionblaze deputy because of his strength and experience and Lionblaze is close to a lot of other cats including Cinderheart and Jayfeather but I agree he wasn’t the best deputy. I’m not going to argue about the Hawkfrost thing cause Squirrelflight wasn’t the most tactful cat when it came to that. Also why do you think that Squirrelflight getting upset means she’s a bad character?
Our opinions may differ but this article is really nice, Pelicanpaw.
Cool article! I disagree tho. Many of the points you brought up involved arguments, which isn’t only Squilf’s fault; Bramblestar is responsible for anything hurtful he said. I also don’t really understand how wanting more kits is manipulative.

I agree completely! imagine you’re brambleclaw, and your mate walks up and is like “Hey, we have five children, want to have some more?” well you don’t want to! And you tell her to drop the subject. she does not. she brings it up again and again and again and again and again and you get the point. the question is not who IS going to be mad at squilf, it’s WHO ISN’T going to be mad at a cat who refuses to DROP THE LITERAL SUBJECT I DON’T WANT TO HAVE KITS WE HAVE FIVE DO I EVEN HAVE A CHOICE THEY ARE MY CHILDREN MAKE IT STOP
I agree. Honestly Squirrelflight was kinda peer-pressuring him to have kits. They had 5 kits. And also, I feel like Bramblestar had the right to be mad at her when she literally went out of camp for, what, a moon? Even though her told her not to.
Nice article, although I STRONGLY disagree. I’m not trying to come off as offensive, but I don’t see how getting upset that your husband doesn’t want kits counts as “manipulative”.
Also, Bramblestar does say some hurtful things, and Squilf is just the type of cat who’d retaliate, not run off and tell somebody. Again, not trying to be rude or anything, I just really strongly disagree. I also have no idea what the “tigerheartstar thing” is, but I don’t think she ignored him.
I mean squirrel isn’t my fave character but she’s ok…

I disagree. Squirrelflight saw all of the she-cats in the clan having kits and raising them, and she wanted more for herself. She felt that kits gave her a purpose in the clan. So she asked Bramblestar multiple times for them. That’s not being manipulative.
Plus, Bramblestar said many mean and bad things to Squils, and she’s just the type of cat who’ll retaliate. It’s not anything terrible about her. Bramblestar gets at least 50% (maybe even more) of the blame here.
Great article! I totally agree! And don’t forget about how she needed up getting her warrior name, by tagging along on some mission that no one even wanted her to goon in the first place. Or about how she was being a total hypocrite when she told Bramble not to talk to his siblings outside the clan, and then in like the next chapter, she was talking to Tawnypelt and offering help to ShadowClan! Also, she lied to her entire family and clan and everyone, and she didn’t get punished. Also, don’t confuse me with a Bramble fan anyone 😂. I am a Squilf, Bramble, and Leaf hater.
