Romance, romance, and more romance. We have it, we got it, we enforced it in the world of warriors. But mating is…off in the series. It’s toxic, there’s polygalmy, there’s low-key development, there’s this and that. Here is my analysis on how complicated mating got and how the Erins made a slight bit of a mistake.

One of the forgotten she-cats in warriors is Robingwing of Thunderclan. And when I made a deep dive into her relationships, I was shocked. Her first mate was Fuzzypelt, a fellow clanmate. Their first litter of kits were two, a tom-kit named Chestnutkit and a she-kit named Cherrykit. Sadly, both died before the events of Bluestar’s Prophecy (BP) as Chesnutkit died from greencough and Cherrykit lived to the name Cherrypaw and died from a fox. They didn’t have their second litter of kits until towards the end of BP. Those kits were her daughters Brindleface and Frostfur, and Whitestorm was her foster son in that litter. At one point, Robingwing had her third litter with Fuzzypelt, their sons Dustpelt and Ravenpaw. She also mothered Longtail with Patchpelt. Since Longtail is older than Dustpelt and Ravenpaw as he became a warrior moons before and was said to be not that much older than Dustpelt, Robingwing becmate mates with Patchpelt after her second litter with Fuzzypelt, then had a third litter with Fuzzypelt.

But…why? Mating with a tom twice, mating with someone else, then having kits with the original tom is…weird. And it gets weirder.

Whitestorm became mates with Brindleface at one point, and they happen to be foster siblings so they probably grew close from that. After siring Brindleface’s kits, Ashfur, Ferncloud, Elderkit, and Tulipkit, he later became mates with Willowpelt. Their kits are Sorreltail, Rainwhisker, and Sootfur. A lot of people believe Whitestorm is Graystripe’s dad. I do too…but it doesn’t make sense. Graystripe was an apprentice when Brindlefaces kits with Whitestorm were born, so why would Whitestorm mate with Willowpelt, then with Brindleface, and then with Willowpelt again. And it still gets weirder.

In a book in the first arc I believe was Forest of Secrets, but the quote was this: Whitestorm’s voice interrupted his thoughts. “I must go and see Brindleface. She said that there was something she wanted to talk about.” He dipped his head. The warrior’s respectful gesture took Fireheart by surprise, and he nodded awkwardly in reply.” This was after Willowpelt announced her pregnancy. So Brindleface was obviously wanting to talk about the kits Whitestorm would have. And in Bluestar’s Prophecy’s chapter 44 it says: “And Brindlekit and Frostkit would do anything to get your attention. Brindlekit even convinced you once there was a fox trapped in the nursery.” Check for yourself and read carefully. I want you guys to see it for yourself and be like ooooooooo interesting. AHA I CAUGHT YOUR TATIC ERINS!!!!! Brindlekit trying to impress him may have been a hint about a future romance. But, I realized, Brindleface had Whitestorm’s kits in Into the Wild, and Willowpelt had Whitestorm’s kit in A Rising Storm. So that’s about five-six months, maybe even two months if Moonkitti is correct.

And then dear old Jake. In Pinestar’s Choice a cat said “He’s mooning over Quince today.” Jake fathered a litter with Quince: Tiny (erm wonder who he is) Socks, and Ruby. He later mated with Nutmeg and had Firestar, Princess, Luna, Tommy, and Filou. Quince still loved Jake: in The Rise of Scourge Quince shows that she still is infatuated by him by practically smiling and saying “It’s strange none of them have your ginger fur.” (And a bunch of other sappy stuff I can’t remember) The Erins confirmed Jake is Quince’s mate and Scourge’s father in both Ultimate Guides. I even have the Updated and Expanded Version. “Scourge was born on the edge of Twolegplace, the kittypet son of Quince and Jake, who went on to father another litter with another kittypet, Nutmeg.” If Quince still loved Jake with no HINT of a breakup in the Rise of Scourge did Jake…cheat? Quince is gray, while Nutmeg is a brown and white tortoiseshell. A lot prettier than Quince. Or maybe Jake moved away and moved on?…

When Smoky became mates with Daisy and she got pregnant, Floss was nursing her second litter, which had been taken by the No-furs. Wait…why did Smoky impregnant Daisy in order to have kits if Floss just had Smoky’s kits? They were said to be Smoky’s kits. Am I the only one who remembers this? And when Floss gets a new denmate called Coriander (RIP), he immediately has kits with her. He keeps mating whenever a female cat is in heat, and it’s a tad bit weird since Warriors romance is more about mating for life. He showed extreme sadness when Coriander died, so just stick with ONE MATE. There’s another tom who did what Smoky did.

Toadskip is a Shadowclan tom in Yellowfang’s Secret. His first mate was Poolcloud, who had Foxheart and Wolfstep. His second mate was Nettlespot and she had Cloudpelt and Littlekit, who died after birth. His third mate is unknown but he fathered Clawface and Nightstar. He clearly mates with she-cats JUST to mate when they’re in heat, so he’s basically a player now.

Toms in warriors are strange. They mate and mate sometimes for no reason. It’s never out of love. Remember that in the warriors series. It’s never out of love. *dramatic sappy music in the background.
