Why Reedshine doesn’t deserve her hate (IMO) by ray ☆

Reedshine is a character from Mapleshade’s Vengeance, and often a very hated character at that. She is the mate Appledusk took on in RiverClan during his relationship with Mapleshade.

People in the fandom often hate her for one simple reason. “She took Mapleshade’s man.” This is simply not true.

For starters, she had no idea of Apple and Maple’s relationship until Maple was brought to RC camp after her kits got swept away by the flood.

“She should have had a bit of sympathy for Mapleshade after everything she went through!!” Ok. Picture this for me.

One day a drenched she-cat comes into your camp with your mate and a patrol, they’re carrying the bodies of young children. That’s very disturbing on its own. Then she finds out on the same day that those same kits happen to belong to your mate and this she-cat, which should be heartbreaking for her. Then she finds out this same she-cat who is begging for pity is the main cause for those kits deaths, forcing them to cross the river during a flood when there was NO reason to. Sure we can say Maple wasn’t in her right mind and couldn’t think properly, we can say that I suppose.

Then her mate pledges that he disowns this she-cat and her dead kits, and that he is 100% loyal to RiverClan from that moment on, then dies protecting her from an attack of jealousy. Of course Appledusk is a bad character, and one who doesn’t deserve his spot in Riverclan, but why is any of this reason to hate on REEDSHINE??

It’s not a reason, she has done nothing wrong. “But she could have broken up with Appledusk!” She was PREGNANT, and likely depending on him, that or the reasoning that she loved him too much to let him go, or forgave him after he pledged his loyalty to their clan.

Reminder that this isn’t a Mapleshade hate-post! I love Maple’s character, and while I don’t think she was right in any of her actions, she didn’t deserve her treatment from Appledusk at all. Sure you can say I’m biased because I love Reedshine’s character, but I made this to get other opinions because I do not understand the hate on Reedshine at all.
