Does anyone have any tips for drawing with colored pencils? I’ve gotten pretty good at pencil sketches, but as soon as I add color it ruins it and it’s kind of frustrating.

When using color pencils, it’s often best to layer multiple colors lightly. It gives a bit more depth and dimension to your drawings. Don’t press them too hard, it’ll leave dents on the paper and make it infinitely hard to erase.
Personally, I do prefer to go from lighter colors to darker colors since it makes it easier to blend. In addition, when shading, it’s nice to layer colors that are different from the original hue. For example, when you’re shading an apple, you don’t have to shade only using dark red, don’t be afraid to experiment with different variations of blues and grays! Usually, the hue depends on what setting your object is in (for example, an object that is sitting outside on a sunny day will be shaded using layers of blue in addition to its original color, because of the bounce light from the blue sky. Honestly I’m still a bit fuzzy on how it works though, so feel free to correct me everyone :p)

The first thing I’d say is start light, and layer and layer until eventually you get a nice, bright colour. Mix colours up too, to create different tints and shades! To add highlights, keep layering lightly and stop sooner. For shadows, I’d recommend to mix blue (or, if you’re doing a bright scene, mix the dark version of your highlight colour) and a bit of black. Smaller drawings are easier to colour (less space) so, start small! Larger drawings take more time and layering.
Amberpaw said a lot, and I can’t really add on without repeating a lot of the stuff they said. (I agree with a lot of it, though!)
one last thing is having a set lineart to work with. I find that sketchy lines and colour pencils blend together too much, to the point where you can’t see the difference between positive and negative space. A fineliner would work very well!
As you practice, it’ll become easier to work with. Have fun with colour pencils!
I don’t know much, but I’d say start with the lightest colors and then shade lightly or a bit more harder depending on how much color you want (Just don’t dent the paper lol) and then move on to darker colors, or use the color that will be around most and then the other ones. I always use Pinterest for pose refs if that’s any help
when trying out new marking styles I use a f2u pose from deviantart or smth to try out the placing and coloring of said markings
Uh I think you can use picture references to help you? They didn’t exactly help me cuz it felt… very restricting for me, for whatever reason, but maybe they’ll help you??

Well, there’s the elements of art 😛 Shape, form, colour, value, space, line, and texture! I won’t go into detail (these are pretty easy to search up) but very essential!
One thing about art is practice. Lots of people ask me how I’ve become so good, (not trying to brag dw 😛 ) but all I’ve done is practice! A lot, trust me. My art from late 2023 is definitely not brag-worthy 😛
Internet is very helpful. You can search up “how to draw” videos or “art tips!” on YouTube! (Those aren’t specific videos just exemplars) Another thing is to draw what’s in your head, and, as you progress, redraw your old art! It’s really fun to see how far you’ve become 🙂
Last tip is look at other people’s art. Fun fact: Moonpaw’s cheek fluff design is inspired by James L. Barry’s style! Reference off of poses, whether photographic or artwork. As Skyshine said, Pinterest is a great source!

I have no tips but the way I usually do it just by watching other people’s MAP parts or animatics/pmvs/amvs, or drawings on YouTube and studying how they draw and then trying to not copy them but kinda take from that and weave it into my own style (i have no idea how to explain) but you can always trace over people’s art to just practice (as long as you don’t claim it as your own but I think you already know this)
