HEY! How is everyone?? Time for a super crucial TØP post. This will (hopefully) blow your mind, if you’ve ever followed anything lore-related that I used to post 😅 Also, ALL 14 MUSIC VIDEOS WILL BE OUT ON ALBUM RELEASE DAY!!! Ok, so.

There was a code recently unscrambled in a new Clancy letter that spells “I am A Clancy,” emphasis on “A,” as if there’s more than one Clancy. There’s this solid theory that Clancy is living in one big cycle, and here’s how it ends: Clancy has the power to control people with Ned’s antlers and he takes down the Bishops, but then he himself becomes obsessed with his newfound power/control and becomes a Bishop. That’s why in Nico and the Niners, Nico told Clancy that he was just “a copy.” We can already see the transfer of Clancy into a Bishop happening; he’s abandoned yellow tape to sport the red color of the Bishops.

Every time that the cycle progresses, the new Clancy has no memory of what came before him, or that the Bishops are really himself. So at one point, there were only 2 Bishops, and then 3 Bishops, until finally there were 9. On each occasion, Clancy is “tempted by control,” (a lyric in Lane Boy), and, instead of remaining locked in the power struggle, decides to join the Bishop ranks instead. Here’s the crazy thing. If there was a time where there was only ONE Bishop, the question is, who was HE fighting while he was Clancy? Who was THAT Clancy fighting before he became the first Bishop? Well, that first Bishop is the current Clancy of this new album! Clancy will destroy the nine, and with no other Bishops in sight, will BECOME the first Bishop, Nico. Or Blurryface, as he likes to call himself. Clancy has become extremely overconfident, which can easily lead into an obsession with control, explaining why Nico is the most brutal of the 9. Instead of simply joining the Bishop ranks, Nico is the only Bishop to have destroyed all the others and claim his throne as the first Bishop.

As the cycle progresses, the Bishops get less brutal. That’s why the latest Bishop, Keons, was kind and wanted to help break the cycle, but by helping Clancy, he really just helped to create Nico. And what’s even crazier is that Nico may have been trying to capture and end Clancy this whole time so that he never BECOMES Nico, and that would end the whole cycle. So this whole time, Nico may not even have been as bad as we thought. All of TØP’s discography thus far has just been detailing the origin story of Nico, played out in reverse.
