Thank you so much to everyone who participated in this year’s gift exchange! As always, your creations were absolutely wonderful and you never fail to blow me away with your talent and creativity! To find your name in...
Okay, so this post is a little later than what I would’ve wanted, but I’ve had a busy week 😛 I’m also a little tired, so, only one cat pic this time 😛 You’re getting plenty from Cadvent, anyway...
The seventh edition of the Blog Monthly is here – written by Lil, fresh off the printing press Hello, everyone!! The Blog Monthly is back and better than ever! I hope you all love this edition, in my opinion it is one...
Rosefern continues their prefix series with prefixes that start with the letter E.
Bristleflight takes a look at the protagonists of A Starless Clan and Moonpaw of Changing Skies.
Randomness from inside my brain:
Moon stood beside her mother. Her breath formed a cloud in front of her nose. She shifted her paws nervously. Moon tried to calm her shaking body as the rest of the pack fanned out beside her and her sister. She tensed when the alpha, Kenji, approached her. Pride shone in his bright blue eyes.
“Moon,” He whispered, “My heir, today you have proved that you are ready to be a full warrior. Tomorrow morning, you will hunt with the pack. You will no longer train with the other apprentices. Are you ready?”
His last words sent a chill down her spine. Was she ready?
“I am ready to take on the responsibilities of a full warrior and earn my place in the pack.” Her words rang loud and clear, despite her earlier state.
“With the power of the sun and stars, I give you the mark of a warrior.”
Kenji dipped his paw in the glowing algae surround them and placed it on her shoulder.
“Congratulations, Moon,” He said softly. Then, he threw his head back in a bowl and was joined by the rest of the pack.
That’s it! I am open to any suggestions!
I like doing extra activities with my characters outside the story. I find that this really helps with character development, and it’s always useful to know details about a character’s personality.
Here are some things I do to connect with my chicken characters:
-Make reference sheets
-Take notes about their personality/interests
-Make a fun facts list
-Make comics about them
-Take personality tests for them
-Draw them as humans
-Come up with what they would look like as other animals (I’ve done mine as cats, snakes, horses, butterflies, and I’m planning to do dogs)
-Come up with what belongings they would have (favorite toys; favorite books; cars; jewelry)
-Have family members or friends take quizzes about them. (I make quizzes for my mom and sister)
-Write a story that takes place in an alternate universe
-Write scenes about them at a different age. (I’m planning to make a scene that shows what Fireblaze will act like when she grows up, and I’ve already made some scenes of her as a toddler)
-Make a list of all their quotes
-Describe one character from another character’s point of view (I made a whole list about what other chickens would say about them)
-Compare two characters
-Write down your opinions on your characters
-Make scenes where you interact with them (I love doing this by making comics)
These are the things I’ve done. If you have any other ideas that aren’t on this list I’d be happy to hear them! 😀
Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh, I should try some of these! 😛
I’m attempting to fill out “Forms” for all of mine. Sort of like BlogFic forms but like… With the details of my characters. 😛
Ooh, filling out forms is fun!
I actually had that idea a while back when I saw one of your blogfic forms on the fanfiction organization page, what a coincidence! 😛I once tried making a huge form with a lot of details a while back to challenge myself. (I kinda forgot about that project of mine 😛 ) I should get back to it.
The size of it scares me 😛 At least I know my characters pretty well or else getting even halfway through it would be impossible.Ah, well… That’s why I do them actually. 😛Oh wow.
Yeah… I only sort of have the basics for my characters as I’m not sure how close I should make them to their real life forms. 😛That’s what I do!
I did some of these, like reference sheets and personality tests! But I should do the rest of these. I love tests 😛 I’m still working on quote-worthy dialogue but I’m definitely doing that.
I’m almost done with my book about Sandy and Dusty!
I’ll post it soon.
I’m rewriting my story again 😛 I decided that it work better in third person after writing my prologue in third. I’ve been actively working on it for between a year and a year and a half and I’ve never made it past the 1/4 mark 😛
Oof, I know how that feels!
But I think it’s better to take a long time rewriting it than ending up with a story you’re not fully satisfied with. 😛
Maybe this time you’ll finish. :’)
I suggest reading some writing books, like the Plot Whisper or Save The Cat! (I know, weird title, but they’re amazing 😛 )
I’ve decided to make my whole novel Fireblaze’s POV, but I’m still trying to decide whether to write my novel in first person or third person.
I’ve had more experience writing in third person, but I think I might do first person this time because then I can include Fire’s sarcasm. 😛
I like first person better for writing with one character, especially if you’re really clear on what they’re like, but I’ve found through my old versions of my story that I can’t manage multiple perspectives (which the plot of mine requires at least 2) and also no matter who I’m writing from the character just turns into me 😛
and turns out I make a very boring main character 😛that said, 1st person feels more fluid and natural to me, but something about the challenge of third person allows me to be more careful with my words and it also works better for multiple povs.I wrote Saga’s book in first person back when I very first started it, then I changed it to third person at revision three, and I still have it third person at revision four, but I think when I finally have my writing sounding good I’ll change it back to first. Not many fantasy series novels are first person, that I know of. So I want it to be different.
Yes, the sarcasmm 😛
This is a poem I wrote:
“Isla, run! You need to run! They’re coming!”
Pirie,
Behind me.
Ma,
Behind me.
Fa and Greatma,
Behind me.
Pawsteps,
Behind me.
Their pawsteps.
The grey vixen,
Behind me.
The Narral,
Behind me.
The Taken,
Behind me.
Siffrin…
Behind me.
This isn’t good but its about Foxcraft when Isla is dreaming. In her dreams it starts off with her and her brother, back home together, having fun but then it goes on to become Karka and her two groups, the Narral and the Taken. Then it goes on to remember Siffrin, who lied to her but she misses him as she believes him to be dead. But Isla is pretending to herself that she doesn’t miss him.
So that’s what that means 😛
oooohhhhhh :000 So well written! And the anticipation
well this a fun fun page! 😀 uh… idk what to share, bc i finished my fic and i’m gonna be posting it soon, but… hello, i guess? 😛
Hello 😛
hi 😛
Question: how do you name your charecters?
I translate random words into Latin, play around with random words until I get something that fits, look at mythological figures, search through baby names, look at the most common last names in the US, combine the names of people I know (they don’t always appreciate it but I find it hilarious 😛 ), name them after people I know, and use my favorite names.
I name them after people I know and after my favorite fictional characters.
I also sometimes give them names that fit their appearance: (Snake is a long slender chicken, Cherryshine has shiny, cherry-colored feathers; Fireblaze is orange)
Many of my oc names are Russain, since I’m fluent in Russain. (I have a gray rooster character named Tuman, which means Mist/Fog)
When I’m stuck I search through baby names, and Warrior cat prefixes.
I sometimes ask my mom and sister for name ideas.
Most often I just use my favorite names.
Uhhhh… Well… If they’re based off someone it’s extremely easy. 😛 Like, the main 5 in my somewhat planned trilogy are all based on living breathing people (3 people(1 not in the main group oops) are famous… oops) so I just had to come up with… Somewhat different names anddddd honestly one is too close to the actual person’s name and the other name I think only exists in the bible but I didn’t realize that until I decided I liked the name so I might have an issue since I know nothing about the bible 😛
Uhhhhh I did look up the meaning of all the names though and I felt they fit the characters/the people they were based on so that was nice.
My main character is basically me though so her personality, what she wears, and even her name are completely predictable if one knows me well enough rip me. 😛
Whenever I base my characters off real people I often use the same name because the name becomes associated with their personality for me and I just can’t imagine another name for the character. I sometimes feel kinda awkward about it… 😛
I just… Don’t want to get copyrighted or something because I have no clue how any of that works. 😛
And they’re not exactly like the real people but pretty dang close. 😛
I mainly make my characters’ names latin or Hebrew 😛
Sometimes I find the most rare/unique/unheard of names and find one that fits, and boom. 😛
I found Saga and Amarbir on two different sites, but I liked how Saga sounded, (and because it’s an epic english word in my opinion), and I liked what Amarbir meant, sooo… Combined!
I named Dimitri after searching online (I haven’t talked about him much yet because he’s new, but he’s an owl). I liked the name Dimitri the first time I heard it in a book and wondered if I could ever use that name. He lives in Russia, so I googled Russian names, and…Dimitri was a Russian name. 😛 So yeah! His nickname is Dima. I love that. Naming characters may be the best part for me. It’s always the easiest because I consult my gut if it fits them or not.
But most often, I go by the meaning of the name. Anatoli, a character in Dimitri’s book, her name means ‘fiery sunset’ and that’s just what I was looking for. Bonus, I like how the name sounds. Meanings are very important to me. 😛
So that’s my way!
I used to name them (and i guess design them) after Astronomical Objects in the solar system but since my OCs weren’t complete personifications of them I just temporarily turned them into Warrior cats and used them as the base so no one would recognize them, but then I don’t want to let go of my AO doggos despite their personalities (these are the first OCs to actually have them) being safely stored in the Warrior Cats AO doggos.
So then I looked towards one of my stories containing the AO doggos, a.k.a the Hunger Games one. That story takes place on Omnia / Earth, when hybrids (pollies) and purebreds with human intelligience (poly-monos) and mythical creatures overthrew the humans and took over the Earth and I guess the Solar System.
But then I was braindead to rename by AO doggos so I just took their Warrior names, translated each prefix and suffix into Greek or Latin, mashed the words together and viola we have “how i name my ocs”. But that’s only for the ones that I created (excluding Ikri).
For minor characters that other people created, well, you get the thing.
Do you have a favorite relationship between your characters? (Doesn’t have to be a romantic relationship)
My ultimate favorite relationship among mine is the bond between Sandy and Dusty, who are twin sisters. I’ve always loved writing about close sibling relationships, and these two are perfect!
They get along well, better than most siblings, and Sandy, who is more confident is protective of Dusty and often helps her, while Dusty worries a lot about Sandy and is very gentle and caring towards her. Sandy is the older twin and usually the one making decisions, which Dusty is comfortable with since she is quiet and doesn’t like leading, but also because she looks up to Sandy and admires her. Both of them put each other before themselves. I enjoy coming up with scenes in which they comfort each other. Somehow I also love how their names match 😛
My second favorite relationship would be Fireblaze and Victoria. Fireblaze starts out hating Victoria, (Victoria doesn’t seem to notice, and admires Fireblaze) but eventually grows to accept her and looks at her as an annoying friend. Victoria soon becomes someone for Fireblaze to laugh at, someone who lightens the mood, and Fireblaze gets used to having her around so much that she can’t imagine being without her. She later notices that despite Victoria being immature, she has a lot of positive traits that Fireblaze herself lacks. By observing Victoria Fireblaze learns how to be braver, more accepting, and more optimistic. In the end, Fireblaze realizes that Victoria changed her life and taught her a lot, and she truly couldn’t live without her.
Oof I have to go with this one.
Tamar and Hurricane
Hurricane and Tamar met one night when Tamar came into Athena, Wood and Hurricane’s cave. She was alone, and looked weak so they didn’t attack her. They brought her in, and they had a new friend. Then Hurricane and Tamar got closer, and then they were attacked by some different cougars and Athena nearly died (Athena is getting a lot of it 😛 ). Tamar held them off while the three mountain lions escaped, and she had to fight of FIVE HUGE COUGARS AT ONCE so she was literally dead after that battle. So she just kind of kept to herself. On her own. from then on
So then a black vixen named Tempest found her, and life was good.
you can guess what sort of relationship Hurricane and Tamar have 😉 I mean you could probably guess anyway but 😛 clue”s in Tamar’s name
Now it makes sense why (in the rp) they’re so close and acting like they know each other! 🙂
Simon & Ferris!! (close second Basil and Sage, third Ferris and Basil sorry Berris)
First of all, this poor adorable friendship has been plagued by me uncontrollably shipping them, despite it not being possible with the plot and also me wanting Berris to be a thing.
But, romantic or not, they have a wonderful relationship. Ferris always seems cheerful and is constantly goofing around, but has a rocky backstory and family life, and is extremely hard to read. He could be in pieces and the aver age person would never know. Simon on the other hand, is under the stress of years of responsibility and guilt. Ferris supports Simon and tries to lighten his moods, and Simon can tell when Ferris’s good cheer is completely acting.
Hm…well, I like Saga Amarbir’s relationship with Esmeralda. She’s always been like her sort of mother. Esmeralda is blind and is a Healer (like a medicine cat or doctor). Also her friendship with Blaze, who knew each other since childhood. And Alistifus and Dikeledi—-Dikeledi died saving Alistifus from a fire. So sad but I had to do it. Plot reasons.
I tore up a relationship thoughI can’t think of anything else. 😛
and it doesn’t have to be positive and can be with more than two others, r i g h t?
Although I don’t really have a favorite relationship, this is one of them involving the current main character.
The Tempestan Trio (RIP this relationship):
Technically, this isn’t a trio, but technically it is because Verugnis says so. This consists of baby Verugnis, Sipergia, and Maclusca and later baby Parevma and was formed because baby Sipergia and Maclusca was bored and baby Verugnis decided to join in, while Baby Parevma was just vibing in the corner eating fish.
And then it was time for the Tempestan Trio to get upgraded to trainees because they were old enough. Maclusca decides to become a healer and thus distancing herself from the other Tempestan Trio kids so she can focus more, trainee Sipergia allows trainee Parevma into the trio to make up for Maclusca, but the problem was Parevma was not a fit Maclusca-replacement. Since Maclusca was Verugnis’ favorite of the Tempestan Trio, she started hating Parevma for being a Maclusca-replacement, but Parevma doesn’t understand why Verugnis hates her.
And then the Tempestan Trio gets promoted to an even higher rank. Sipergia becomes second-in-command, Maclusca is appointed as elite healer, and Parevma and Verugnis are appointed as elite soldiers, but then no one is happy about their new ranks. Maclusca becomes an apathetic deadpan emo for being distanced from her friends for so long (although she still has faint connections with Sipergia and Verugnis), Sipergia is too caught up in second-in-command business to be with Parevma and Verugnis (and prevent them from absolutely murdering each other), and Verugnis quits and starts working with the Tempestan leader Katainia instead, who isn’t…the nicest leader, so that doesn’t really help with her deteriorating sanity.
Katainia seems to want to destroy the Tempestan Trio because now he’s offering a third-in-command position for the elite soldiers (Parevma and Verugnis) making them hate each other more.
Afterwards, we delve into spoiler territory so I won’t continue.
TL;DR as the Trio grows up the relationship between them dies.
I can’t just give my characters happy endings, eh?
I have a book, which needs a title, but basically all the characters are secrets, and almost no one knows they exist. The main character is Quinn, and everyone else is named after my cousins. Only two other girls in the story. So I just need weapons and personalities and clothes.
weapon time
A Warhammer
A sword
a dagger
a shield
throwing stars
an axe
a mace
bow and arrow
that’s all I can think of off the top of my head
Sounds cool!
For the title, maybe use some words like darkness, shadow, hidden, or secret, since the characters are secrets.
Aright, just a fun question, what would you folk’s characters do if they met mine? Say for instance, they end up stuck next to each other on a plane ride.
Sage, being the aloof person she is, would not be starting any conversations. She would probably ignore anyone sitting next to her, pull out a book, and read the whole time. However, under specific circumstances, such as seeing someone open a book she likes, she might offer an offhand comment along the lines of “that’s a good book,” but not necessarily in a way that really encourages conversation. (Although at this point, she might tolerate one 😛 )
Basil is a lot more talkative, and would definitely try to engage anyone in a conversation, even if they didn’t necessarily look friendly. She’s pretty friendly and good with people, so she’d probably be pretty easy to get along with, as long as any conversation partners don’t mind listening to her ramble at times. Essentially, having someone sit next to her is seen as potential to make a new best friend.
Simon isn’t as prickly as Sage is, but he is somewhat shy. He would probably be polite and say ‘hello’ to anyone sitting next to him, and would participate in any conversation, especially one he found engaging although he wouldn’t necessarily start one unless something else promoted one.
Ferris is an odd one, given that it would really depend on his partner. He would be open to conversing with anyone, and would be polite to any neighbors. However, being the observant fellow he is, he would not push a conversation unless he found his conversation partner to be interesting to him. He’s also a bit of a flirt with everyone, especially when he first meets them, because he uses it as a way to get a good sense of who he’s talking to.
Fireblaze would only want to participate in a conversation if she finds the topic interesting. She’s a bit irritable and would get annoyed quite easily, although among strangers she hides it pretty well. She would like sitting near Simon best considering that he would be polite to her and neither ignore her nor force her into a conversation, which is pretty much Fire’s requirement for tolerating someone.
Victoria would talk to just about everyone. She wouldn’t mind Sage’s quietness and would attempt a conversation with her anyways. I think her and either Basil or Ferris would get along best.
Dusty is shy and doesn’t really start a conversation (unless it is with her sister Sandy who she loves talking to). She wouldn’t mind if someone else started a conversation, though, and would try her best to participate. She just finds it hard to be the one who starts talking. Her and Sage would get along since Dusty would be glad to respect Sage’s space.
Sandy would love to try to get to know people and make friends, but if they don’t want to talk she would be polite and not push it. She would try starting a conversation but stop if she notices that it irritates the other person.
since we’re all using rule of 4, I’m just using the Tempestan Trio for now (sorry Dachtyllidi and Pelidi)
Verugnis: She’d to isolate herself all the way to the back seats to avoid losing her temper and murdering everyone in the plane.
Parevma: She’d try to start a conversation
and not try to warp into fishwith the other folks, although she will respect the space of introverts.Sipergia: He’s pretty aloof (but not as aloof as Maclusca), but if someone talks to him he’ll gladly start a conversation.
Maclusca: Basically Sipergia, but if someone talks to her she’ll say “go away”, and if that same person tries to speak with her for the fifth time she’ll yeet them across the hallway.
ughhhhh writers block is attacking me 😛 I want to write but I’m fed up with the chapter I’m in the middle of :[ advice?
Just… Take a break. 😛 Or start from the next chapter and come fill back in this one later!
Welp in an attempt to kill my writers block I wrote a trashy poem about Ferris and his relationship with his father. (Which, as you shall soon discover, is not at all pleasant)
I’m a mistake
want to click undo?
Want a retake?
Well that sucks for you.
Won’t meet my eyes
I don’t fit formation
Are you surprised?
Look at your creation.
You’re a fake
who stole your heart?
There was nothing to take
From the start.
When I look for me
I see you
I take your debris
And paint it blue
Our mutual hate
Is all we share
I need to repaint
Like you were never there.
I’ve got you beat
Your mad, that’s fine
Admit defeat
I’m only mine.
save ferris
fear not speedy moddo ferris gets a happy ending
huzzah!
That’s really good! 😀 Poor Ferris, though. 🙁
I’ve recently started writing poems about my characters, too.
