I need some advice for my novel. What point of view should I do?
A) The whole book is told by Fireblaze, the main character. (this was how I was originally planning it)
B) Perspective switches between Fireblaze and her three teammates.
C) Perspective switches between different characters, not just Fire’s team but also villains and minor characters.
D) The whole first book is told by Fireblaze but I also write shorter books about other characters.
It would really depend on the circumstances and the way you want the story to be told. Only having one perspective keeps things relatively stable but also excludes the possibility of showing off other parts of the story when it might be good to do so. Like, if you were writing a murder mystery you wouldn’t want to have clear chapters from the villain spoiling the mystery early on. On the other hand, if you wanted the readers to know something before the main character finds out, having other POVs could be helpful. So it kinda depends. I personally would prefer to read books in the D perspective, but that’s just my preference knowing nothing about the story in question. 😛

My story does have a lot of mystery in it, so I think villain perspectives would probably spoil too much. And Fireblaze eventually figures everything out. I actually like the idea of readers learning things at the same pace as her. Fireblaze’s best friend Sandy finds out a lot of things before Fireblaze, but she’s pretty open and helpful, so I can just have her tell Fireblaze about it.
The only thing I want the readers to know that Fireblaze wouldn’t is the other characters’ emotions. I think option D would work quite well, because I can express the main story through Fireblaze and express some of the others’ emotions through their actions, but also make novellas for some of the others in order to tell their side of the story. I was actually leaning towards D for a while, because it gives the advantages of all the other options, and also gives me a lot of freedom to add stories when I want to.
Thank you for taking the time to help me with this. I’ve been in a hurry to figure this out so I can finally start writing and your advice has helped me a lot. 🙂
Aw, thanks! 😀 Yeah, if you want to show other character’s emotions the D perspective and emotion-actions should work fairly well. (“Forestblaze shot a scowl at the other apprentice’s words, raking her claws through the moss.”, for example, shows quite a bit of emotion without having to give away exactly what the character’s thinking.) And of course I’m a sucker for a million spinoff novellas. 😛 I’ll be excited to read it when you write it! 🙂

I think you should either just to fireblaze or fireblaze and her teammates.
Assuming that you arent going to make the villains one dimensional, the readers might sympathise with the villain too much if you allow them to see their side of the story. You want the reader to focus on the demise of the villains and the main protagonist, atleast in the first book.
Ofcourse, you could even make the book in 3rd person, following a character of your choosing. That way you can focus on multiple characters’ thoughts even if the chapter isn’t following them.

My villains are very complex, so I think it’s best that I don’t use their POV in the first book. That will keep the mystery of the fact that Fireblaze doesn’t know for sure if they are good or bad.
And you’re right that I shouldn’t make the reader sympathize with the villains right away. I want them to understand Fireblaze’s frustrations. And I do have my gentle character Dusty as one of Fire’s teammates. She sympathizes with the villains and I think her compassion will give the readers just enough sympathy for the other side, but not too much.

My complicated, pesonal preference is doing alternating, structured chapters with different POVs (Person A one chapter, then Person B, then Person C, then back to Person A to go back to the beginning of this circle-cycle, and occasionally break the circle by throwing in a chapter with a different POV, maybe every 10 chapters – chapters 10, 20, 30, etc. …which is technically still a circle-cycle, lol), but this is very specific and it really depends on context/circumstance and what works to make the story be told well, I guess…?
Doing a cycle is my preference for changing POVs, too.

I really don’t like it, I’m sorry.
I never, ever considered it while reading the parts of the books with Leafpool and Mothwing in them, and was quite surprised to find out it is a ship that exists so avidly in the fandom, and that it’s let alone such a famous ship “fan-wide”.
I love Leafpool and Mothwing as individuals, but I just don’t see them together. I am also an avid shipper of Crowfeather X Leafpool, but the main reason I don’t ship it isn’t even my personal preference, it’s that I just don’t see those medicine cats together as a couple.
However, I have no problem with people shipping Mothpool. It’s not, like, an opinion that bothers me or anything. To each their own.
yeah i just found out from this that mothpool existed. There are literally no implications of it in the story so…

I don’t like it. What I’ve seen is that people seem to demote Mothwing to “Leafpool’s wife” with this ship, and that’s the only time I ever see her get talked about nowadays. It’s also annoying to have it shoved down my throat by avid shippers, hence why I’ve grown from neutral to dislike on this pairing. However, them never being together or having hints at this doesn’t bug me, because anyone should feel free to ship whatever they want regardless of whether they’ve interacted, that “requirement” other people seem to have for ships being valid is honestly dumb imho (as long as the ship isn’t unhealthy, it is fine). But Mothpool has more chemistry than Crowpool, and would’ve been more believable too – however, I prefer Leaf x Sorrel over that, as well as Crow x Squirrel.
*This is just my opinion and it’s not one that I feel strongly about*
I don’t really like it. I would love to see a lesbian couple in Warriors but I don’t think Mothpool is the place to start.
I think they work a lot better as friends and I don’t think there are any implications past being friends (I might’ve missed something though).
From what Starspring said I also don’t like the idea of Leafpool being demoted to “Mothwing’s Wife”.
It also probably doesn’t help that I don’t like Mothwing that much (I really like the idea of her character and the role she’s supposed to fill, I just don’t like that kind of character).

You should go with the one you like the best, if you ask me since you’ll be more inclined to stick with it longer and won’t end up with multiple name changes like me 😛 Out of the ones listed, my personal favourite would have to be Streamfang, as I’m biased towards the -fang suffix in general. Some other names that could work with the Stream- prefix could be things like Streamhawk, Streamlily, Streambriar, etc, but it’s ultimately up to you ^w^

That’s cool, I’ve been wanting to learn German for awhile but I’m also doing French as well as Japanese and Russian on Duolingo so maybe four languages at once is…not a good idea 😛 I don’t use Overdrive nor Libby for reading since I tend to have some of the books irl, but considering that where I live we’re still on quarantine and there’s no good book stores where I live, I’ll probably end up using it at some point, lol
