Sooooo I didn’t get booted off the speech and debate team and I didn’t quit! I posted a hug page comment about that earlier and that I thought I might as well quit bc I’d keep making excuses, but going to my first speech meeting today has changed my mind and made me more optimistic. Also, I just realized today how glad I am to have chosen speech and not debate. Last year and the year before in middle school I mostly did parliamentary, you get a topic, you get a sometimes get a research period but usually we didn’t, and then you just basically wing it, and we did a few things where we had to write cases, but the only one I signed up for (which I ended not even going to because I got sick) our entire club was just basically using the same pre-written cases anyways. Just the thought of writing a whole case was daunting. And today in our speech and debate google classroom I checked and saw all the tips and criteria for writing a good case as well as a bunch of briefs and other resources for a upcoming tournament and I was like oooooooof plus speech is a lot more versatile and you can have a lot more choice, and a bunch of the different event types seemed super interesting!
