- Include content warnings if necessary! This can be things like graphic violence, death, sexual content, etc. If you wouldn’t recommend it to a young kid without warning them what’s coming, then include content warnings!
- Try to keep non-book chatter out of this page! It can be redirected to the Tavern.
- Try to keep Warrior Cats chatter out of this page! We’re here to highlight books aside from the cats we know and love, so you can head over to the Sunning Patch or the Elder’s Den to discuss Warrior Cats!

I just finished The Prison Healer yesterday and I LOVED IT.
Oh, that’s a super cool title! What’s it about?
Rereading the perfect subjects on wattpad is like a rollacoster, you can’t do nothing to stop things from happening so you just sit back, relax and enjoy it
fanfiction is wild like that. you go for the niche trope that you crave and come out sobbing and suddenly you ship two characters you didn’t previously like together
This is so true 😛
Book recommendation: The Hunger Games. It is so good! It is a little violent, so if you aren’t okay with blood or death, it’s not for you.
The Hunger Game are cool!! 😀 who’s your favourite character??
Probably Katniss or Rue or Mags or Finnick
I literally just came here to talk about the hunger games with someone 🤣
Sammmeeee! Favourite character???
Katniss or Rue or Mags or Finnick
The Hunger Games are good !
The Hunger Games is great!
Totally random question: what are the best written and worst written books you’ve ever read?
Mine would have to be Lord of the Rings for best written, it’s a true classic and still unforgettable after all this time, and My Immortal (which is an infamously bad fanfiction I couldn’t finish because the spelling and grammar were so atrocious) for worst
best for me – mrs. dalloway!!! i really believe there isn’t a book like it that is so nuanced and multifaceted, it’s like looking through a kaleidoscope <33 i haven't read many bad books tho, but i don't like coleen hoover books 😛
piney not again
please

🙂
Best written I have to say is The Gilded Wolves trilogy by Roshani Chokshi 😀 those books stole their way into my heart and have stayed there ever since (without even paying any rent!! :O)
Worst written, in my opinion, was the Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis. I don’t know. The writing didn’t really sit well with me, the characters were all pretty one-dimensional, and the plot was pretty bland and, well… bland. The Witch, the Lion, and the Wardrobe being an exception, but I couldn’t even bring myself to finish the series.
I at least half agree with your about Narnia. I think some others of the earlier books are pretty good: i.e., Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, but the later ones are just depressing. And the religious message is pretty heavy handed. Lewis basically had no experience with children, so it isn’t surprising that he wouldn’t do a great job of writing children’s books. And he failed to build a consistent and coherent world, unlike his pal and drinking buddy Tolkien in LOTR.
His science fiction trilogy, The Perilandra Trilogy, written for adults, is much better, though it carries the same religions message.
I tried to get into The Gilded Wolves, but even at 150 pages in I still felt like I barely knew any of the characters. I guess I could try again?
There was also a distinct lack of actual heisting and that was my entire reason for reading
The heisting comes… Eventually. And yes I will admit the characters are a bit hard to understand as the book just kinda plops you in the middle of everything 😅😅😅 I randomly started on the second book, but I don’t know, it just drew me in and I couldn’t put it down 😛
If your looking for a book that’s solely about heisting, though, I’d recommend the Six of Crows doulogy (if you haven’t already read it)!!!! 😀
I have read Six of Crows, it’s my favorite book! I actually read The Gilded Wolves in the hopes it would be similar
Well the best, I’m currently reading Patrick Rothfuss, sooo
The worst are the Pokémon books. So bad. Don’t do it.
You’re reading Pat Rothfuss? I’ve seriously never met anyone else who’s even heard of him 😛 Which book are you on?
Best would probably still go to The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson for me!
Worst would be Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas 😛 no offense to any fans, but Maas’ writing generally tends to be very distinctly not my cup of tea.
I’ve wanted to read Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson for a while now 😛
It’s really good! But be aware that it’s very long and very slow paced :p
AAAH THANK YOU. I tried to get into Throne of Glass, i really did. But the main character (i can’t even remember her name) was pretty annoying, her assassin thing was totally unbelievable (the BEST assassin at 17?? and she’d been training for how long??), and every time some backstory was dropped it felt distinctly like info-dumping
My thoughts exactly 😛
eugh, Throne of Glass.
I actually hated it. It was so… mundane, y’know? Like Caelena or whatever was an unbearable character, she switched back and forth between “I’m bad-donkey and I will fight and kill” and “he hwurt my feewings” and the whole best assassin ever thing was really… reaaally?
Yuppp. She waffled a lot on whether she wanted to be tough or wimpy 😛
Best: Skandar and the Chaos Trials, no questions asked. Seriously the best book I’ve ever read.
Worst: Idk, I hated The Swifts: A Dictionary Of Scoundrels so probably that
Best for me is either Small Favors by Erin E. Craig or Some Kind of Hate Sarah Littman, they were both wonderfully written and I totally recommend them both, though Some Kind of Hate is a bit of a heavier book so I would brace yourself! Also Keeper of the Lost Cities is up there for an awesome plot but the characters could be improved just a bit
Worst? I think it’s Lost in the Never Woods by Aiden Thomas. I’m POSITIVE there’s been worse than this that I’ve read, but this book’s plot was confusing and the writing was so stilted and weird that I couldn’t get past the first few chapters. I mean no offense to the author, but this book was a struggle for me that I had to eventually put down because it was making me irritated 😛
omg I read lost in the never woods a few months ago, and I mostly agree. it was extremely confusing and I had to search it up and read a few reviews without spoilers to understand, but once I did, I thought it was a pretty creative plot. i don’t remember too much about it, but I think the writing was decent. but even though I liked the idea of the plot, I don’t like how it was portrayed and I hated the main characters so that was a dnf for me too 😛
best: either caraval by stephanie garber, a wolf called wander by rosanne perry, or the tiger rising by kate dicamillo. caraval is a whimsical ya book, and I love how the mc has synesthesia so the descriptions of her feelings are in beautiful colors.
a wolf called wander is a moving middle-grade book. the story of a wolf traveling miles to find a new life is very amazing to me. it is definitely short and sweet.
and the tiger rising is a beautiful middle-grade book with a troubled mc that teaches us that some things -like heartache, grief, and ultimately tigers- can’t be caged up forever. I recommend all these three, especially the last two!
worst: either splintered by a. g howard or illuminae by jay kristoff and amie kaufman. i thought the plot of splintered was cool originally, but the mc did not sit well with me. no offense to anyone who likes the book, she just seemed kinda stupid ngl.
illuminae is written in a series of intricately crafted diagrams, letters, texts, etc. this is a very cool idea, it just isn’t my type of book. overall, both of these put me in reading slumps. :/
geez this was long-
for me one of my favourites was As Good as Dead (I never got quite so ‘into’ a book as I did As Good as Dead), Powerless and Powerful (so excited for Reckless!). But the best-written book I’ve ever read was probably The Book Thief (I cried like a baby)
The worst book I ever read has to have been Beyond the Bright Sea. It was AWFUL. The main character was so selfish and spoilt (thieving from her guardian because “I’m almost twelve now I can do what I like”) and all the other characters just let her get away with it, and we’re supposed to SYMPATHISE with her? And the plot doesn’t get resolved?! She literally just says “yeah, I gave up” WHAT?
But I read it for school, so I’ll say Shatter Me. It was very disappointing. I was looking forward to a girl being forced to kill, not a girl being forced to wear nice dresses and sleep in a double bed.
If your into fantasy like me, you should check out Wings of Fire (written by one of the Erin’s, Tui T. Sutherland). It has graphic novels and books. (CW; Novels: Graphic Violence. Books: slight violence, descriptions of blood.) They are rated 10+ but any age can read them. My fave series alongside Warriors!
wof is peak :3
I love WoF!
Finally someone else who’s other favorite series is WoF! What’s your favorite book of WoF? Mine’s The Hive Queen.
Has anybody else read Godkiller by Hannah Kaner? Oop it’s a young adults book btw sorry if that’s inappropriate 😛
Young adult fantasy?? About killing a god?? You have intrigued me!
And by the way, it’s ok to recommend young adult fiction. There’s a lot of members who love to read at that level (like me!). Just make sure you always mention that so people know if it’s right for them 🙂
If people want a middle-age, forbidden romance type book, you should read the Silent Songbird. It’s so good!
I have to read a book from an author listed for a part of my summer homework, and I chose Joelle Charbonneau (sorry if I spelled that wrong lol). I decided to read Time Bomb, a thriller book of hers. It is my last resort because every other book I’ve wanted I haven’t been able to get 😭 it has a slow start. or it’s just slow in general. i feel like she tried to put action and suspense in it, but I feel like almost any other book had more than in this book. the writing itself is okay, but I’m just really not enjoying it. and I still have to finish it for my homework. but now I’m in a big reading slump 😭😭
has anyone here read any of her books? I need to know if all her books are like this 😛
I read The Testing trilogy by her a couple years ago, and I recall being frustrated by its slow pacing.
A slow thriller sounds terrible! I love thrillers because they’re fast!
yes, I read the testing! I personally didn’t think it was slow, but since I don’t get to talk to many people about books, idk if most people would consider it slow are not 😛 I know a lot of people don’t care for it, but I loved it! :DD
Anyone here read They Both Die At The End by Adam Silvera? I think everyone should read it… it took me like a week or smth to stop thinking about it every hour :’3
Anyone here read They Both Die At The End by Adam Silvera? I think everyone should read it… it took me like a week or smth to stop thinking about it every hour :’3
I have! I enjoyed it :]
I loved it! So much that I now own it! I have a love/hate relationship with sad stories. I love them because i have such a high appreciation for authors who can pack so much emotion into a story. Silvera really breathed life into ALL the characters, not just Mateo and Rufus. The love story was cute too. But i kind of hate stories like this because there’s just nothing any of the characters can do. The tragedy will happen and the added futility is somewhat crushing. But there’s beauty in that too, you know? They KNOW how their days will end. And yet, they try to make the best of it. It’s a great glimpse of what it looks like to mourn the loss of somebody. And the “insurmountable human determination.” They mourn themselves, yeah, but they don’t let that stop them from making the most of the time they have left. It’s beautiful <33
Yep, I couldn’t have said it better myself 🥺🥺🥺
Okay, so I just started reading Skandar & the unicorn thief yesterday, but I’m a fast reader, so I’m on chapter sixteen, and is Kenna the weaver? Or his dad? Edit- Hmm, 🤔 is this piney?
Okay, so if anyone say my comment above, you don’t need to tell me or reply to it. I’m on the second book now, so you don’t need to reply or tell me who it is. (told ya I was a fast reader😛)
Ooh, I wish I could tell you! But I refuse to spoil it…
I just read Tailchaser’s Song and it was really good. I see why some people say it was the inspiration for warrior cats (and others say WC ripped it off…)
It’s a great favorite of mine and one I recommend it to everyone who reads Warriors. I don’t think Warriors is a ripoff of TcS, there are as many differences as there are similarities.
I wrote an article comparing the two worlds:
https://blogclan.katecary.co.uk/2024/06/01/warriors-and-tailchasers-song-two-contrasting-cat-fantasy-worlds/
I read one of the best fantasy books I’ve found in a while! It’s called Defy the Night and my favourite part are the CHARACTERS, oh, they’ve actually got FLAWS.
The main characters are Tessa, who’s an Robin Hood-esque outlaw who’s really kind and wants the best for everyone, but she’s naive and makes emotion-based decisions, and Corrick, who is the King’s ‘second in command’ and has to deal with the moral dilemma of punishing rulebreakers to keep order in the country, even though they are breaking laws to stay alive. He’s my favourite MMC I’ve ever read about, apart from maybe Rayne from Crowns of Nyaxia
Oooh, I love Defy the Night!!! I’m still waiting on book 3 since my library doesn’t have it yet, but I’ve read the first two!
argh, that’s annoying. I’ve almost finished 2nd, it took me a while to get into it but enjoying it right now!
