has anyone read the book “night” by Elie Wiesel? it’s a memoir about the concentration camps in Auschwitz, it’s sad but an amazing book.
Well that’s depressing (no I haven’t read the book)
Yes! It’s definitely a very heavy book, but super impactful.
i haven’t, but i read ‘the tattooist of auschwitz’, which is kinda similar
(also not entirely pg but i didn’t know that until i read it so don’t make the same mistake that i did)
That’s one Holocaust memoir I haven’t read (yet), but I intend to at some point. If you’re interested in learning more about the Holocaust, particularly Auschwitz, I highly recommend Maus by Art Spiegelman
I haven’t, but it sounds awesome :00
I have. It’s very moving.
I’m currently working my way through Dune! I’m enjoying it quite a bit but it’s taking me a while 😛 very cool world building though.
I’ve seen the movies, Dune is absolutely awesome
I’ve seen the movies and I ABSOLUTLY ADORE Dune 😀 I haven’t gotten my hands on the books yet but I WILL- 😛
Oooh, I’ve heard of that!! The movie is out. What’s it about, exactly? I feel like it features a desert or something? 😛
It’s a sci-fi book set wasaaay into the future or an AU, where something called “Spice” is the key to intergalactic travel. The protagonist is a kid (or young adult) named Paul Atriedes, who is the sole heir the the House Atriedes (the second most powerful house by my understanding). House Atriedes is given the planet Arrakis to rule, and, erm… in hopes of not spoiling it, let’s just say that they… Face the consequences 😛
(also has anyone else noticed that the whole thing is littered with Greek mythology references???)
There’s this guy, Paul of Atreides, and he comes to this desert planet, Arrakis, where yeah a lot of stuff happen like there are HUGE sand worms that are attracted by rhythmic sounds and stuff and yea it’s all just awesome
THANK YOUI-I mean, I hope you enjoy the rest of it! 😛Is that a Murder Drones pfp I see before me?
Yes yes yes it is!!!
I have a book recommendation!
Love, Lucas by Chantele Sedgwick
I was looking at the books in the library when I randomly found this book. It was the title that caught my eye, because I have two friends named Lucas and I thought it would be funny to tell them I got a book named that. Eventually, I read it, and I was not prepared for how much I would like it. I cried. Every single letter (You’ll understand if you read the book) made me cry. Here’s the blurb:
“When Oakley Nelson loses her older brother, Lucas, to cancer, she think she’ll never recover. When Mom suggests they spend a few months in California with Aunt Jo, Oakley isn’t sure a change of scenery will alter anything, but she’s willing to give it a try.
In California, Oakley discovers a sort of safety and freedom in Aunt Jo’s beach house. Once they’re settled, Mom hands her a notebook full of letters addressed to her-from Lucas. As Oakley reads one each day, she realises how much he loved her, and each letter challenges her to be better and to continue to enjoy her life. He wants her to move on. If only it were that easy.
But then a surfer named Carson comes into her life, and Oakley is blindsided. As she lets him in, she is surprised by how much she cares for him, and that’s when things get complicated. How can she fall in love and be happy when Lucas never got the chance to do those very same things?
With her brother’s dying words of guidance, Oakley knows she must learn to listen and trust again. But will she have to leave the past behind to find happiness in the future?”
I loved this book, and I will keep recommending this forever. I hope you read it too! <3
What are everyone’s most anticipated book releases for the rest of this year? I think mine are probably The Fury of the Gods by John Gwynne, So Thirsty by Rachel Harrison or Wind and Truth by Brandon Sanderson. I’m also looking forward to Buried Deep by Naomi Novik.
I’m still waiting for the release of volume 3 of Philip Pullman’s The Book of Dust, but whether that will happen this year (or ever) is anybody’s guess.
yesyes book 2 left off on the massivest cliffhanger i can’t wait for book 3!
Wind and Truth!!!!
Shannon Messenger’s Unraveled!!!
star >>:3
So far Shannon Messenger’s Unraveled and Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ Games Untold 😀
THERE’S ALREADY A TITLE FOR THE NEXT BOOK?? I just read The Grandest Game and i am LOVING this new arc
YESSSS 😀 I think it takes before the actually Grandest Game, so kinda a like a prequel but also a sequel to the Brother’s Hawthorne/Final Gambit??? 😅😅 Sorry I am terrible at explaining this, but it’s releasing THIS November!!!! The actual sequel for the Grandest Game, titled Glorious Rivals is gonna release sometime next year!!!! 😀 😀
Silverborn by Jessica Townsend. It was supposed to come out this year, but then it got postponed to 2025 ;-;
(actually, it was supposed to come out in 2022 or something initially ToT)
Hey hey! I just posted about that at the bottom lol
Replied :DDD Glad to see a fellow Nevermoor fan here!!
OMG, IS THAT A NEW MORRIGAN CROW BOOK?!?!?!!?!
*vibrating in place*
hello yes i heard you asked about upcoming books?
Unraveled by Shannon Messenger!! AH! A Keefe pov??
Spectacular by Stephanie Garber because i’m a sucker for her romances.
Wrath of the Triple Goddess by Rick Riordan. I will never escape the Percy Jackson series, nor do i want to.
Star by Erin Hunter. I’ve LOVED the new series, which was a shock!
Yes I agree with EVERY ONE OF THOSE BOOKS (except Spectacular I’ve never heard of it)
But YESSSS-
Mine probably was Ivypool’s Heart but that just came out and imo it was pretty awful ngl 😭 😭 But I’d say as of now my most anticipated book is the next Hunger Games prequel!! It technically doesn’t come out this year, but it comes out this school year, so technically speaking… 😛 Also Star and the next KotLC and PJO books!!!! :DD
Star and The Elder’s Quest…
So I saw KotLC in the library, and i was like ‘hey, that’s the book some blogclanners were recommending!’ So i borrowed it, thought ‘it can’t be that good, right?’
…
5 minutes later… I’m obsessed 😛
(I apologise for the terrible grammar, I’m tired 😛)
OMG YOU’LL LOVE IT!!!!!
ah… we have
abductedintroduced another into the realm of KotLC*nods approvingly* Glad to hear you like it!
YAY ANOTHER KOTLC FAN ON THE HORIZON! I’m absolutely obsessed, and I also got introduced into the series because of blogclan!! You’ll love it :))
Has anyone read anything in the Giver Quartet by Lois Lowry?(the books are The Giver, Gathering Blue, The Messenger, and Son) They are all really good books.
No but it sounds cool 😀 I’ll make sure to check it out!!!!!
I’m the biggest fan of that series >:3 What’s your favorite of the four?
YOUR PFP
No, but seeing that both you and Coni like it, I should probably check it out some time :DDD
ooh The Giver :DD (no one understands the reference I know I know)
yeah they’re pretty interesting :DD
I sorta read the sea of monsters (second book of the Percy Jackson series) in 3 hour that I got in an airport…hehe :3
can’t wait to read the third book!
awesome!! I love reading books on long trips. Except for the part where i tend to run out of material 4 days before the trip back…
maybe i should try out e-books
Saaaaaaaaaame 😛
Ooh yay! I just recently read Titan’s Curse. You’ll love it!
Cool! I love Percy Jackson! The third book is one of my favs! Prepare to be both traumatized and experience the greatest joke in the whole series.
I LOVED THAT SERIES SMMMMM
Anyone read the Nevermoor series by Jessica Townsend? Content warning: aimed at older kids/teens; violence, disease, death, maybe sort of hints of horror I guess but more in a dark adventure novel way than actual horror? Book 4 has been pushed back THREE TIMES and I’ve literally been waiting over 3 years for it which sucks cause we were left on a cliffhanger lol, but finalised date is next spring!
nope, but you’ve intriuged me!
No, but it sounds cool!!! 😀
:000 You like Nevermoor too! Oh my gosh!
Seriously, why does the book keep getting postponed 😭 I really hope Silverborn will be worth the wait, because I love this series with all my heart.
(if it gets pushed back again, I’m gonna CRY)
Yeah! I think Ezra Squall’s character development is gonna be really interesting after what we got from him last book. (If it’s from a purely plot based perspective he’s my fav character, otherwise I’d have to say Mog or Jack ;). )
By the way speaking of Morrigan and Jack….
Do you have any ships because I low-key ship those two ngl lol , respect it if you hate that tho
Fr fr. I love Squall’s character as well, he’s a really captivating villain.
I always thought Mog and Jack’s relationship was completely platonic (like siblings), but I see why you’d ship them!
Also, any Skulduggery Pleasant fans in the house? Because the first book for a new arc may have released recently and omg it is amazing and no spoilers I promise but you need to read it (not quite as good as Until the End but when are first books in this series ever better than finale books?)
Anyone here read Kensuke’s Kingdom? I have to read it cuz school and I haven’t finished it yet but I don’t mind spoilers cos yea
What are the best and worst books y’all have had to read for school?
Best is probably Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde- I loved the style and Stevenson seemed like an interesting guy as well!
Shoutout also to a short story we read which was A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury! That was brilliant.
My worst was Lord of The Flies. I hated it so much and I don’t agree with the message either.
BIG AGREE with lord of the flies
Never read a book for school 😛 best I’ve gotten from the school library is definitely the Gilded Wolves trilogy (Artemis Fowl is a close second tbh) 😀 worst I’d say is To Kill A Kingdom
Lucky duck 😛
Worst is… a book where there’s a girl and everyone else in the world are dead cos some weird fever and that girl is really selfish and the whole book is just annoying and meh 🙄
Best is idk Kensuke’s Kingdom I wouldn’t say it’s good but it’s not bad at least :3
Best: The Hobbit (what can I say I’m a British nerd through and through lol)
Worst: A Christmas Carol (love the muppets film but the book is a no, so boring)
Best: Harris & Me
It is so funny, though we never finished it 😞
Worst: Hmm . . . I don’t really have a worst, but my least favorite would probably be Wonder.
I get what the little brother was going through, but how he treated his older sister was just wrong. We never finished it (like my favorite book), but I don’t think I’d want to read it again
WHAT
WHAT
WHAT
WONDER IS SO GOOD 😭😭😭
Agreed
Best was Pride and Prejudice, despite the antiquated language, I loved the story, and of course it spawned Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which I adore 😛
Worst was probably A Separate Peace, I HATED the main character and it was just really depressing
I have friends who had to read a book called The Good Earth for lit though… and based on what they and the internet said about it, that would be my least favorite if I’d been in that class
Best: Thunder Rolling in the Mountains (I don’t know if anyone’s heard of it) It was really sad, but also really good.
Worst: Esperanza Rising. It was less the actual book, and more how the teachers portrayed it. I had already read it before, and this sort of ruined it for me.
I’ve gotten fairly lucky in my selected reading. I really loved The Lottery, which YES, is a short story but i’ve gotten to choose all my novel studies so i’m low on options here. Creepy and thought-provoking. I loved it.
For the worst… i don’t actually know. They were all fine
Have any of you guys read A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series?! IT’S SO GOOD!!!!!!!! Every other page could be a possible plot twist. I read the whole series over a course of three days!!!!
CW: It’s YA so there’s definitely some: cursing (like A LOT), inappropriate stuff (can’t say on here), gore (ESPECIALLY THE THIRD BOOK) also it’s a little creepy!!!!!!!!
Yes I’m kinda in a crime/murder mystery faze right now.
I’ve heard of it and it’s definitely on my tbr list!! :DD
IT’S REALLY GOOD!!!!!
Good to know!!!! :DDD
Never read it, but really want to! I think my mom watches the Netflix series of it. . .
Yeah, I’ve seen a few episodes of the netflix series!!!!!!!
OMG ONE DAY WE WERE ON VACATION, AND THAT BOOK WAS SITTING, LEFT BEHIND IN OUR CABIN. LOLLZZZ
But no, I havnt read it. I was tempted to just nab the book from our vacay place, but, my parents said no. WOMP WOMP.
Awwwwww dang it’s SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!
I found u again! 🙂 I’m not on the allegiances still but hope you’re still happy with me as a mentor 🙂
Funny timing – I just took it out from my library!! Only the first book tho, def getting the others! I originally thought it would be about romance and sappy stuff and not really focus on the main plot at all…but nope 😅
I have read Warrior Cats like, over 7 times, and Im getting a bitttt tired of it, any other book suggestions? I’m looking for a bit of order, like how Warrior Cats has everything sorted. I love all the action that happens, and I love the map they have included. Any suggestions y’all?
(I meant to put a /s over the reading warrior cats ‘over 7 times’, welp, me memory frorgot, whoops 😛
Maybe Wings of Fire? The Tribes, queens, and looks of the Tribes are at the beginning of the book, and I really love it!
I’ll second this! Wings of Fire is great
Have you read Lord of the Rings?
LORD OF THE RIIIIIINGS
WoF is really good if you haven’t read it yet! I didn’t read it for a long time because I didn’t care for dragons, but I ended up really loving it! :DD
Well Survivors!!
The Guardian Herd!
If you’re looking for more books about cats, I’d recommend Lackadaisy! It’s a webcomic all about anthropomorphic cats living in the 1920s! It’s a little bit gory (but definitely not as much as Warriors) and there’s a huge use of firearms but it’s overall really really awesome! There are great characters, worldbuidling, and it’s not really fantasy (if you’re tired of prophecies all the time 😛 ). Totally recommend it!
yeah I only read books about cats /jDid you know it’s been made into a YouTube webtoon?
