What do yall think of Draco Malfoy? I personally love him, he’s my second favorite character, but I’m really tired of all these headcanons like “he just wanted to be part of the golden trio” and “all he ever wanted was Harry’s safety” cuz PLEASE, he was just a bully (Rowling’s words btw) But I still love him
oki rant from a draco lover coming in (also spoilers if you have not read the whole series!):
soooo I love draco malfoy. but I agree with your point. he is a bully, and he did not want to be part of the golden trio. but see, I strongly think that he was extremely misunderstood. he was forced to uphold his family’s status at a young age, his father ending up in azkaban, and a mission from the wizard terrorist voldemort to kill a school headmaster and one of the most loved wizards in the world at age 15/16. this trauma definitely shined through in the bathroom and astronomy tower scene. he isn’t a bad person/character, he just didn’t have a choice. I do think that he deserved much better. but still, he is a great character for a bully.
oki rant over :3
^^ everything she just said
ooh a fellow draco lover >:3
Totally agreed! He had a lot of pressure on him and the fact that he still ended up a good guy shows he’s actually a very good character, he was just raised by Lucius 😛
I agree, draco is a great bully but also turned out as a pretty decent person in the end 😀
COMPLETELY AGREED
Definitely AGREE!
I watched all the Harry Potter movies but can’t really remember what happened, but I remember disliking Draco, then liking him more or feeling empathy towards him at some point?
Sounds logical, he was just a bully all the way to like the 6th book where he had to repair this locker or whatever and kill Dumbledore and all that stuff which he didn’t want to do :3
He’s okay, I’ve never had a ton of an opinion on him. His later development adds some nice depth and he serves his role pretty well.
I forgot to say this but I also think a bunch of people like him more cuz they think Tom Felton is attractive but we don’t have to talk abt thatwell I mean like I can’t disagree with that but I read the books first and pictured him differently so I feel like tom felton was just like “bonus points” or smth? I mean like he played draco amazingly but like that isn’t the main reason I love draco hahayes Tom Felton was too good for Draco loloh yeah I heard abt that tooi really don’t get liking a character purely because they’re pretty it’s so confusing to me. what about the stuff that matters? show me the trauma. show me the development. show me how fREAKING COOL THEY ARE. oh? they single handedly fought off like 50 guys?? my new favorite. that i can get behindI think nothing of him as I dislike the series in general.
I don’t like him at all, probably just because I find the Draco fangirls on Wattpad EXTREMELY obnoxious, he’s a well written character, but I hate all the headcanons about him, especially the ones where he’s friends or in a relationship with one of the trio because that is so OOC it’s disgusting
I agree with everything you said except I like him 😛
and I may or may not support Drarry but we don’t have to talk abt that eitherI hate him so much! He’s a mean, a bratty child and a bully and he is just pathetic!
He is mean, a brat, and a bully, but I disagree with the pathetic part. In later books, I think he was really strong and he actually grew up to a great guy despite the circumstances :3
Alright i was wondering if anyone knew some good fantasy books with LGBQT+ representation in it and with nothing sexual in it?
I would recommend the Folk of the Air series! The main character’s sister is in a lesbian relationship 🙂 I do believe one of the books has one sexual scene, but it’s very watered down and lasts like half a page, from my memory.
(The last book is the one with that scene, very tame though, also the second has some very passionate kissing but it’s not too explicit either)
(Also this series is AWESOME :DD)
HII EMMS
(Yes, I agree, I love it! Who’s your favourite character?)
HI SILVS
Uhhhhh, Heather, Cardan, Jude, Oak (I can’t read The Stolen Heir, I don’t want to see my baby Oak all grown up :’) ), the entire CCourt of Shadows minus Dain, and definitely NOT Locke ugh ugh ugh ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh 😛 (seriously, I did a reread of TCP and Locke is even worse now that I know what happens)
What about you?
[Some spoilers for the series are in this comment, so for anyone reading this besides Em, don’t read on if you haven’t finished the whole series].
Those are awesome characters!!! (I agree, I tried to read The Stolen Heir and could not get into it, it’s so weird to see Oak as an adult 😛) I genuinely hate Locke so much 😭 And I hate Taryn for choosing him over Jude, but I love her for killing him! 😛
I really like Grima Mog (she’s such an icon), Heather, Cardan, Jude, and I do like Vivi, but she’s so annoying sometimes ;-; Like why would she glamour Heather?! It’s so messed up. Also also, I have to talk about the iconic “I didn’t. I poisoned them both” scene. I actually SCREAMED at that part istg, like Jude is such a baddie 😭
What was your opinion on Cardan at the start? I hated him with a burning passion, and kept telling my friend who got me into the series that I would always hate him 😛
*SPOILERS*
I also hated Cardan, but I figured that since he was kinda obviously set to be the love interest, he’d probably get better 😛 (This was before I lost hope in fey fantasy after reading Marissa Meyer’s Gilded, and I’m so glad 😭) I did NOT expect the poisoned both part, that was so Jude of her and I love it ahhhhhh!! And yesss Grima Mog, I totally forgot about her, she’s incredible 😭 Also Locke’s death made my heart happy, I’m kinda concered Taryn is still allowed to go free after that, isn’t it a bit dangerous…? But I mean, Jude wouldn’t let her sister be harmed in any which way or form 😛
Ah yes, pretty logical 😛 ^^ What happened in Gilded? 😭😭 Yesss!! She’s just so cool, I love her with all my heart. Absolutely, Locke was just such a wretched character. I also feel like some of his behaviour is so similar to how people could be in real life it gets my gears grinding – it’s just more realistic than a lot of other antagonist characters 😛 Very true – I guess nobody liked Locke enough to care he had been murdered?? 😛 That’s also true – Jude is a great sister, and even after what Taryn did, she still loves her a lot.
For a second I thought you were talking about Taryn lol
Here’s a few!
Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger
Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas
Not Your Sidekick by CB Lee
Lumberjanes by ND Stevenson
These should all be clear I believe but I also encourage you to give ‘em a google to double check because it’s been awhile since I’ve read some of them.
-Sir Callie And The Champions Of Helston
-Girl From The Sea
-Wings of Fire
– This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone
– Cemetery Boys & The Sunbearer Trials by Aiden Thomas
– This Poison Heart & This Wicked Fate by Kalynn Bayron
– Six of Crows & Crooked Kingdom (mainly the latter) by Leigh Bardugo
– All Systems Red by Martha Wells
As a bisexual and a massive fantasy fan, I have been summoned >:D
The Mermaid, the Witch, and the Sea is fun and action-packed, and it explores LGBTQ+ identities in what I think was a very effective way. It’s a young adult book, so no explicit sexual content, but there is a fair amount of violence and heavy themes
This Is How You Lose The Time War is one of my favorite books of all time, and I can’t possibly describe it, but please read it. It’s sapphic and it’s so lovely
The House in the Cerulean Sea is a nice, feel-good, magical realism/low fantasy story that has an adorable found family and casual LGBTQ+ representation
Six of Crows is another action-packed fantasy series about a bunch of teenagers pulling a heist. Three of the six main characters are LGBTQ+ and there’s no explicit sexual content, but like with my first rec, there’s some disturbing content so be sure to look up content warnings if you need them
I’m starting the Lord of the Rings eeeeeeeeee!!!
Oooooh awesome!! Let me know how you like them! The Lord of the Rings movies were filmed in New Zealand, by the way 😛 It’s this country’s most proud moment fr 😭
The movies are awesome 😛 I’m actually gonna watch the third soon, I’m so excited!
I’m glad you like them!!! 😀 <33
I LOVE The Lord of the Rings, one of my favourite books! Let me know how you like it :DD
One tip: The first half of the first book is a bit slow and boring (took me like 2-3 months to read 😭), but trust me, by the second half onwards the plot picks up
OOH THOSE ARE AWESOME :0
Great! They’re all time favorites of mine, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve reread them. I recommend that you stay away from the movies until you finish the books, though.
just went to the library and got watership down! I’ve watched a bit of the show, and I thought it was really cool. has anyone read it?
I have read most of it, but I can’t really remember much of it! I have watched the movie numerous times though, and I love it 😀
yes, I did a year ago or so! I really liked it :3
I’ve read the graphic novel, which I don’t think is an exact copy but very similar. I loved the story and the illustrations. There is some clear inspiration from Warriors taken from Watership Down (it is a British book). I haven’t watched the show but it sounds cool. Would recommend the book anyways!
In language arts we read this story named Eleven by Sandra Cisneros. It’s really good, and I’d recommend reading it!
Cool! What’s it about?
The main character talks about growing up, and there’s also a regular story in it! It’s pretty short, but it’s really good!
It sounds amazing!
ohhh, I remember reading that in fourth grade and then reading it again in fifth grade because it was in the ela state test 😛 I agree, it’s short and sweet!
Does anyone have any book recommendations? I usually read fantasy books but sometimes mystery as well and recently I’ve enjoyed Divergent and Throne of Glass.
you might like the testing! I liked divergent and also liked the testing, and though I think it’s for slightly younger readers then those for divergent, it’s still a good book imo! :3 I know there are people who don’t care for it, but i’d say at least check out the blurb!
I looked that up today, and it looks really good. I’ll hopefully read it soon 😀
If you haven’t read LOTR yet, I strongly recommend it. The greatest fantasy novel of the 20th century. Also: Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy and Ursula K. Le Guin’s Earthsea series.
I actually have the LOTR and Earthsea at home, but haven’t gotten around to starting them. I probably will soon though. His Dark Materials sounds good as well and I’ve had multiple friends recommend it to me. Thanks for the reading advice!
For mystery, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder and for fantasy, Folk of the Air!!
Thanks for the recommendations! I’ve actually read folk of the air already, but it’s such an amazing series 😄
I agree! <3
Going to hope you haven’t read this already: Keeper of the Lost Cities remains one of my top favorites, and Grishaverse is very gokd as well. Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom are both awesome, but I suppose it’d be better to start with Shadow and Bone? For mystery, Small Favors by Erin E. Craig is EXCELLENT — got me out of a book rut and just generally become one of my favorite books I’ve read. Definitely worth it; there’s splashes of horror mixed in there too
Ty for the recommendations! I’ve read KotLC and most of the Grishaverse books already, but I looked up Small Favors and it definitely looks good.
– Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson mixes fantasy and mystery pretty well!
– Depending on how old you are (there’s some mature themes and violence), The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett is a fantastic fantasy murder mystery.
– If you liked Throne of Glass, then try Daughter of Redwinter by Ed McDonald.
– This Poison Heart by Kalynn Bayronn is a contemporary fantasy with lots of mystery elements.
Ty for the reading ideas!
I have many, but my favourite is The Circle (Sara Bergmark Elfgren). There are three books in the series, The Circle, Fire and The Key. I’m not sure if you’ll be able to find them very easily, though, since the author is Swedish. But if you can, I really recommend it!
Thanks! It looks good and I’ll add it to my ever growing list of books I want to read 😛
I finished The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson and, oh my God, I have no words… like, what did I just read?!
Yes, I may have accidentally spoiled some stuff, but that didn’t matter, because this 1.5 kg tome (yes, I weighed it) is just… GOD SOMEONE HELP ME I CAN’T SPEAK 😭 I don’t even know why I love it so much, nothing about it is super special, but the combination of the things it just incredible I guess. (Also, Kaladin. His melancholy (which I’m guessing is depression?) was well-written and so beautiful to read, for me at least)
The ending was incredible, I won’t say much so I don’t spoil anything but it feels like a roller coaster that feels like it has ended… and then it goes on one more lift hill. A tall one, 75 degrees, at top speed. And stays up there. (Honestly, the book felt more like a prelude or prequel or prologue or another “pr-” word like that, like it’s just hinting at the actual first book)
I am SO glad for my foresight in seeing that I should order all three first books from the library together, ’cause otherwise the waiting would kill me 😛 Currently debating whether to sleep or start Words of Radiance, it’s a school night and it’s already late (no, I won’t say how late 😛) but man, I need answers. Maybe just the prologue…? I probably can’t read though, this book is just too much to take in and I need to process all that info. (Also, am I gonna burn through these like I have duralumin? Because this took me 4.125 days, and at this rate I’ll be done before Halloween! What happened to me trying to save books and not rush? Am I doomed to always finish good books so quickly? :P)
Anyways, at some point in the future I’ll review it properly for an upcoming book review/suggestion series thing that I’m planning to do, but yeah here’s my late-night post-finishing-book ramble. If anyone else has read TWoK, how did you like it and do you have any other recommendations? Ty!
Edit: you know it’s a real Emmy post when it’s this long XP
Edit 2: My computer ran out of power, so I’m actually posting this a day later (mostly unedited, so you can see my full late-night rambles)
I adore The Way of Kings!! That series is one of my absolute favorites. The world building and characters are fantastic, it’s just overall a lovely read. I’m very excited for the next one to come out 😀
I completely agree, I’ve read only 1.99-ish books but it’s starting to grow into one of my favourite series. Really can’t wait for Wind and Truth to come out 😀 (Funnily enough, before starting I thought to myself that I’d never finish these books by the time book 5 came out, but I’m almost done 2 books in under 2 weeks so…)
OMG. Right now I’m gonna read Mistborn but I SOOOO want to read Way of Kings. Brandon Sanderson is an amazing author 😀
Mistborn is AWESOME, genuinely one of my favourites and definitely worth it. I love the Stormlight Archive, but Mistborn will always have a special palce in my heart <3
Cool! I’ve read some books by the same author and they were great- this one sounds awesome too!
It is! Which books have you read, if you don’t mind me asking?
Oh my god, it sounds so good I might have to get it out from the library!!
It’s amazing!! However, these books are like 1000+ so maybe read some of the author’s other works, jsut to get a feel for the books (though you can definitely read this without reading anything else, it’s so simple and fun to read but is a bit long and kinda slow at first)
Thanks for that tip! /gen 💗
If you liked The Way of Kings then you’ll love Words of Radiance! I think it was even better, though I think you should read Warbreaker first because there are some interconnections between the two!
I actually read Warbreaker sometime before The Way of Kings, it was really good even though I didn’t like the ending (*kinda spoilers* what happened to Blushweaver though – that was so unexpected I had to stop reading for a bit). I’m almost done Words of Radiance, about to start chapter 84 (had to take a break because WOW the climax is intense) and I love it, can’t decide between it and The Way of Kings (I also may have spoiled myself on the connections, but I don’t mind, it feels better knowing about it)
Oh nice! I actually really liked the ending of Warbreaker. I think it’s quite underrated compared to Stormlight. And yeah the Stormlight climaxes are always big! Just you wait until Oathbringer 😛
Hey guys! Fantasy lovers, let me recommend an author!!
Try Lynette Noni’s Akarnae series! It’s got magic powers, alternate reality, magical creatures, a fantasy boarding school, everything!! One of my favourite books
Oooh, it sounds cool!!!!!!!!! I’ll check it out 😀
Sounds cool! 😀
That sounds amazing! :O
That’s sounds pretty cool!
My english class has just started reading Romeo and Juliet! I’m so excited!!! 😀
Eep lucky!! 😀
Romero and Juliet’s great! I’ve seen the play irl at a Shakespeare festival :3
Cool!
That’s great! I absolutely loved the movie, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. I wish I could have read Romeo and Juliet in my English class, but we read Much Ado About Nothing instead 😭
Are you complaining about MAAN???!!!!! (/j) My whole English class is obsessed with Don John and stuff. English became Drama as we were physically re-enacting everything! Beatrice is obv the best and Don John- well that’s me ranting another time.
I did an essay on misogyny present in MAAN, which did give me a slight dislike for it, though that’s obviously expected due to the time period. Beatrice was amazinggg! My favourite character fr <3 Was Don John the evil one who made it look like Hero had cheated on Claudio? Speaking of Claudio, I dislike him 😛 What about you? And do you ship Beatrice and Benedick?
aw, I love Much Ado 🙁 aside from Twelfth Night, it’s my favourite of the comedies
I do think shakespeare’s at his best when he’s writing tragedies and histories, though. Romeo and Juliet is quite good, but I would recommend checking out some of his other non-comedic works.
King Lear, Richard II, Julius Caesar, Richard III, Hamlet, Othello, the Scottish Play, and Henry IV (parts I and II) are all excellent
I also like it! Just thought Romeo and Juliet was more of a stereotypical Shakespearean play to read in English, so I was hoping I’d get to at some point 😛 Thank you so much for the recommendations! <33 Who is your favourite Much Ado About Nothing character?
Beatrice :> i love her
we just did that this year! have fun 😉
Hey y’all recently I’ve read this book called New Dragon City by Mari mancusi and I highly recommend it!
That sounds AWESOME 😀 I will DEFINITELY check it out
Cool! What’s it about?
Oh I read that recently! It was pretty good fun 😀
You’ve read everything, Red, istg 😛 /lh /pos
agree with Silv on this one 😛 /lh /pos
I wish 😛
A Problematic Paradox by Eliot Sappingfield. After putting it down a few years ago due to it being too edgy (LOL) I found this again a few months ago and just read it this week and finished today! It is soooooo good! I’m also reading the sequel The Unspeakable Unknown now. Just a little book rec 4 y’all
Ooooohb sounds real cool!!!!!! 😀 I’ll look out for it in the library!!!
Oooh! What’s it about?
Ok so its about this girl Nikola who almost gets kidnapped by aliens and then is sent to this school for science nerds like her, where she has to keep her newfound abilities from hurting people 😛 that’s a very bad description but whatever
Oop, forgot to add: mild language warning, both of these books contain a few non-Blog-appropriate words but none too extreme, also in general there are a lot of big science words in it but usually they’re defined 🙂
I just read This Is Where It Ends by Marieke Nijkamp, and it left me crying so hard my eyes hurt. I seriously haven’t cried like that since maybe the first time I read A Light In The Mist, around a year ago, or when I read They Both Die At The End a few months ago. It’s about a school shooting that took place in a high school, and it is told by four perspectives that all have a reason to fear the shooter. There’s obviously trigger warnings of gun violence, but it is definitely a good book overall and I would recommend it to people who want a good book to read but aren’t afraid of crying over a book.
That sounds so amazing and heart-touching. <3
Aaaah the 4th Skandar book is in my school library!!!!!!!! (I need to finish the 3rd which I borrowed last week)
YAYYYY
THE FORTH ONE RELEASED?!?!?! :O
I’m on the 2nd Skandar at the moment 😀
