Trailing Stars Graphic Novel (TSGN) Resources

Hello! If you’re on this page, you’re likely seeking resources for the TSGN Project. Let’s jump right in!

General Guidelines

  1. We know that there are some battle scenes in the story, but please try to minimize gore as much as possible! A few cuts are fine and all, but just don’t get too graphic.
  2. Stick to the story! Don’t change the plotline. If in the story Cakestar is eating fresh-kill, Cakestar should be eating fresh-kill, not fighting a fox! If a summary is not given, you can pick the most important sections of your part to draw – this is usually dialogue or key moments in the scene. Don’t make it harder for yourself – it’s only a page after all 😛
  3. Individuals may claim one part maximum, unless otherwise noted. Don’t bite off more than you can chew!
  4. Please, please, PLEASE communicate!!! A big part of making this project a success is making sure you’re keeping us updated on your progress – whether you’re doing great, working on it, or need help, stay on top of your scheduled check-ins and feel free to ask us any questions that you have in the process.
  5. Most importantly, have fun!!! This is meant to be an enjoyable experience for everyone, and an awesome opportunity to showcase your awesome talent as BlogClanners!

Responsibility Reminders for Artist Roles

SKETCH ARTIST – outlines page and sketches out each panel, helps storyboard and compose the page design. Example can be found here (SCHEDULE: 2 weeks)

  • Your first week check-in will be for the completion of the page’s composition.

LINE ART ARTIST – lines the sketch and solidifies the visual design of the page so that it is ready to be colored. Also adds text and speech bubbles to the page (SCHEDULE: 1 week)

  • Line art artists will not have a check-in, so they MUST be on top of their assignment and be able to commit to their task

COLORING/EFFECTS ARTIST – colors in the line art, adds lighting/shading/other effects to make the page a complete and polished final product (SCHEDULE: 2 weeks)

  • Your first week check-in will be for the completion of the page’s flat coloring and background.

ONE PAGE ARTIST – completes all parts (sketch, line art, coloring) of the page, with the final product being a completely lined and colored page with all effects; does not include character design (SCHEDULE: 4 weeks)

  • Your first week check-in will be for the completion of the page’s lineart and composition.
  • Your second week check-in will be for the completion of the page’s flat coloring and background.
  • Your third week check-in (FINAL CHECK-IN) will be for progress of the page’s shading and lighting, and any remaining questions

CHARACTER DESIGNER – creates character designs for characters that newly appear in the assigned part who DO NOT have a reference, but DO have a description (see the spreadsheet). Designs will be based on character name, description and artist’s choice. Character designers are allowed to use bases, as long as they credit the creator of the base. Characters will be assigned to the designer at the beginning of their assignment. (SCHEDULE: 1 week per character, for no more than 2 weeks [two characters max])

  • Character designers will not have a check-in, so they MUST be on top of their assignment and be able to commit to their task, especially because other artists are depending on character designers to complete their parts.
