Part 1 of Cinderpelt’s Determination
Cinderpaw drew in a deep breath. Yellowfang was looking at her expectantly, while the other medicine cats looked at her, willing her to say the words “I do”. Is this what I want? She wondered. If I do, then… then Fireheart will never be mine. The thought of her beloved used-to-be mentor with some other she-cat made her sick. But that future could never be. Unless… unless she said no. Has any cat ever done that before? She thought. I don’t think so…
But she was going to be the first to say no to this. She couldn’t be a medicine cat, she was not going to stand by while Fireheart fell in love with another cat. Cinderpaw opened her mouth, all doubts gone. “I’m sorry, Yellowfang. I wish I could, but… I can’t.”
Shock like lightning rippled throughout the Moonstone cave. There was silence for a few heartbeats before Yellowfang hissed, “I’m sorry. Did I hear that right?” Cinderpaw gulped, then nodded. “You heard me right. I said no.”
Her mentor looked like she was about to rip her ears off, before sighing and crumpling to the ground. “I’m not good enough for anyone, aren’t I?” She whispered, a faraway look in her amber eyes. I’m sorry, Yellowfang. But I have to follow my heart, like you told me to do! Cinderpaw willed her mentor to understand.
The old, dark gray she-cat looked up at her, grief and anger showing clearly in all her features. “Fine, then. See how well you get along being a warrior!” She spat, then added, “Leave. You have wasted my time and effort that I gave to train you, and you threw it all away!”
“Yellowfang, I-I’m sorry. But I’ll still look up to you! I…I’ll make you proud, even now! You’ll see!” Cinderpaw stammered, trying to sound confident but only managing to just keep herself from sobbing.
Part 2 of Cinderpelt’s Determination
No matter how hard I try, I will never be good enough for Firestar. Cinderpelt thought as she watched her beloved Firestar curled around Sandstorm. I let Yellowfang down for nothing.
It had been many, many moons since she had become a warrior. Her mentor had died in a forest fire, and the Clan was without a medicine cat for moons. Cinderpelt had tried to make her way into his heart… but it was not to be. Sandstorm had won him over, and she felt a seething jealousy burn within her heart every time she saw them together. But that was over now, and a sad acceptance had settled over her.
Slipping out into the cold night air, Cinderpelt made her way to the medicine cat den. She was going to put her skills to use, no matter how shattered her life was. No matter if Firestar had chosen a different mate. Because she was determined, she was a fighter, she was optimistic, and she was not going let this weigh her down. I hope you’re watching, Yellowfang. I’m going to make you proud.

Participants of this contest will be drawing the book cover for my other fan fiction, Like Willows Before a Storm! It’s about Softpaw\willow(a slightly fluffy pale gray tabby she-cat with green eyes), Shadowdawn (a black-and-cream she-cat with ice-blue eyes and fluffy fur), and Lizardfur (a mottled brown tabby tom with amber eyes and a stubby tail and large ears). Ideas that I’m looking for are all three cats clustered around a willow tree or in a storm, or both, or maybe all three of their faces like they do it with the novellas. But feel free to do it however you like! Don’t forget the title!
The prize is THREE SECRET PAGES + They get to be in the book (if they want)! This contest ends 3\19\22, so you will have two months to create and submit your art! This contest is starting….. NOW!

There! You can whichever one you want! So the tails of those cats are like the trunk of the willow(?) and then the leaves are only on the back because of seeing the tails well.

I haven’t drawn stormclouds before, and I’m very happy with how it’s turning out! I’ve been playing with the spraypaint tool, so sorry if it looks too blurry. (No, I’m not done with it yet. So far I have the majority of the background, minus a few details, and The willow tree will be done as soon as I make it stop looking like it’s glowing. Then I’ll do the cats.) It should be done either today or tomorrow!

Softpaw\willow: Easily flustered, quiet, timid cat who is very shy. She can be brave when she needs to be, and is very kind. Doesn’t like killing stuff or hurting cats, she has self-doubt a lot of the time.
Shadowdawn – Brave, loyal, feisty, and kind. She has a somewhat short temper, and is quick to jump to conclusions. She loves kits more then anything else, and is secretly very playful!
Lizardfur – Socially awkward, doesn’t like to talk much, distant, gets jealous quickly. He’s rather serious, but very open and kind to those he is comfortable around.
