We are delighted to have so many talented and prolific writers on BlogClan, but the amount of fan fiction posted in comments has increased so much that we do not have the time or resources to moderate it all in a timely fashion. What we’re about to say will seem harsh, but it will hopefully mean that comment moderation over the whole site will become quicker which means more fun for everyone. So, here goes, and apologies in advance if this is upsetting:

Fan fiction comments will not be moderated on BlogClan.

This means comments containing fan fiction will never make it out of moderation. They will languish there, unread and unmoderated, for eternity.

Wattpad provides an excellent platform for reading and sharing fan fiction. You might wish to use that instead to share your stories. I am not favouring Wattpad. It’s the only one I know of, and I’m sure there are many other platforms out there you might prefer. It’s up to you!

If you can’t make an account on any site, you may use justpaste.it! If you only have access to Google Docs, then you must use a blog email to make the document or link a web-published version of your document. To make a web-published version, set the doc to be viewable by anyone with the link, then go to “File” -> “Share” -> “Publish to web” and click “Publish”, then copy the link provided (it MUST end in “/pub”). • Hawkkit looked up at Quietstream, it had been a few moons since Emberkit’s disappearance, he was the only one Hawkkit enjoyed playing with, none of the other kits would play Clan’s with them, not like Emberkit anyways, they always wanted to be leader and would walk away or argue when Hawkkit tried to explain that there wasn’t a “leader”, there was a “guardian”. They sighed and curled up in the mossy bed their mother had, their mother looked down at the small kit, “What’s wrong, little one?” “I miss Emberkit.. he was so fun These other kits don’t like playing with me!” Hawkkit wailed, Quietstream shook her head and looked down at them, “I’m sure you can find a game you can play with the others” “But I wanna play Clan’s!!” Hawkkit wailed once again, sounding even more upset, Quietstream just sighed and curled around the kit, and told them to go to sleep, which they did, reluctantly, but when they fell asleep, they woke up beside Emberkit “Emberkit!-” They stopped, his fur was torn and he looked skinny, Hawkkit tried to paw at him, but their paw phased through him, they were confused, Why couldn’t they touch Emberkit? They looked around, he wasn’t in Thunderclan territory, they stopped. He was OUTSIDE it, they finally knew where he was! They were shook awake by their mother “Get up, you need to go play” without hesitation they ran out of the nursery to play with the other kits, or so their mother thought, they convinced the other kits to play near the entrance of the camp, then they waited until nobody was watching and slipped out of the camp, or so they thought, a warrior, Whitewind, saw them. He had heard about the accident with Emberkit, and knew how upset Quietstream would be if she lost another kit, he raced out of the camp, following the kit. “Hawkkit! Get back here!” Hawkkit froze, they were caught! What should they do?! They bolted away, but Whitewind was faster, he caught up and scooped the kit up, bringing them back, where they were scolded by Gemstar, Whitewing, and Quietstream, Quietstream and Gemstar agreed that Hawkkit would not an apprentice until they were 6 and a half moons, and must stay inside the nursery until then, despite their protests and wailing, they were put back in the nursery, they could feel Emberkit getting farther away, and weaker.

    EMBERKIT’S POV
    ——————————————————————————
I heard voices.. Cat voices..? I pretended to be asleep, I was hoping they were just passing by and wouldn’t bother me, it had been a moon since I left Thunderclan, one more moon and I’d be an apprentice, if I was in a clan, the voices stopped not too far in front of me. “I-is.. is that..?-” “A kit! Go back to the camp and alert Bladestar!” I heard a cat running away, and felt another cat brushing up against me, “You poor thing.. You shouldn’t be out here alone.. You look so hurt.. And skinny.. Dear Starclan..” I felt myself being picked up and slowly carried somewhere, I heard more cats voices nearby, they all were talking worriedly, I heard footsteps approaching me. “Crowheart! Is this the kit Firestone told me about?!” The voice sounded strict, smooth, and worried..? How bad was I looking? “Yes Bladestar, this is the kit-” “Get him to Goldenrose now! Lionfang, get the kit prey! It looks old enough to chew up prey..” I felt myself being taken somewhere, and then set down on a soft mossy bed, I think I feel a few feathers..? I heard two hushed voices talking, I was then pawed gently, I pretended to stir and wake up, a golden tom, with dark blue eyes and short fur was crouched beside me “Hello sweetheart.. I’m Goldenrose, could you tell me a bit about yourself..?” Goldenrose stood up and started getting herbs that I didn’t know for my wounds, I began to speak “I-I’m Emberkit.. I’m 5 moons old” my voice was dry and my throat hurt, Goldenrose gave me a few seeds “Very good.. Now eat these for me and close your eyes, okay?” I did what I was told and drifted off into a peaceful slumber, when I woke up I was still in Goldenrose’s den, but some prey was nearby, I slowly sat up, feeling unsteady on my paws and slowly walked to the prey, every step I took I felt like I was going to fall over, when I got to the prey I flopped down and began to eat, I felt my strength being brought back, I got up, feeling more steady, and walked out of the den, I had a bit of energy left luckily, a pure white tom with scars over his body walked to me, he had short ruffled fur, his eyes were a dark leaf green, his stare was cold and serious, I almost shrank back and ran away, but then he started to speak “Hello, little one.” he crouched down to me, his gaze softening at how scared I looked “H-hello..” my voice still hurt and was still dry, “I am Bladestar, Leader of Briarclan, Goldenrose told me you are Emberkit, we found you on our territory, do you have a clan?” Emberkit didn’t respond, should he tell the truth? They seem trustworthy.. But they might make him go back. “I.. ran away.. Please don’t make me go back!” “Shh.. it’s okay, I won’t make you go back, but you do need somewhere to stay.. Would you like to stay here?” My eyes widened, invited to a clan? After leaving one! I was glad I wasn’t being forced back but it didn’t feel right to join a new one immediately, but I had nowhere else to go.. “Yes..!” “Wonderful, follow me to the nursery, my mate shall foster you, and you shall be my son..” Bladestar’s voice drifted off, he stayed silent for a few moments before shaking his head, we stopped in front of a den with vines covering it, and flowers in front of it, I was nudged in by Bladestar, there were 3 queens there, and 9 other kits, I was nudged to a pitch black queen, her eyes were a crystal blue, a white and black she-kit ran up beside me, and then a black tom with white spots on his fur ran up to Bladestar “Father who is he?” the tom asked “Echokit, Silentkit, this is your new foster brother, Emberkit, Moonfall, will you foster him?” Moonfall nodded, Echokit, who was the she-kit tackled me “Gotcha!” Silentkit stealthily creeped up behind and pounced on here, sending her off me and the two started to play fight, I huddled close to my new mother, feeling tired, I closed my eyes and let the feeling of peaceful sleep take over me.

  • Chapter one of NEWCOMER again. tell me what you think.

    Chapter 1
Adderpaw crept closer and closer. he was stalking a thrush. Suddenly a twig snapped under his paw and the thrush flew away.
“Fox dung” he muttered. he pointed his muzzle to the sky trying to catch scents of prey then he spotted it. A mouse! instantly Adderpaw dropped into his hunting crouch and stalked the mouse. suddenly rustling came from a near and Mudpaw burst in from under it. Adderpaw let out a hiss as the mouse scurried away. he turned and faced Mudpaw
“I would have had that mouse if it wasn’t for you” he snapped. His green eyes blazing with fury and his black and white fur bristling.
“sorry Adderpaw, We need you in camp NOW,” said Mudpaw her eyes clouded with worry.
    “What’s wrong?” asked Adderpaw.
“I don’t have time to tell you we need to go camping now.” snapped Mudpaw.
the two apprentices rased to the camp. Adderpaw could smell Barkclan along with his clanmates. Battle cries split the air as both clans battled. he quickly scurried into the tunnel that led to his camp and threw himself into battle. Mudpaw quickly followed. Adderpaw felt something land on his back. he quickly slipped from under it. he saw it was Harepaw. Adderpaw made a massive leap but harepaw quickly dogged him, making adderpaw land on the hard stone of the clearing. Harepaw landed a well-aimed blow at adderpaw’s ear making it bleed. adderpaw quickly jumped forward and landed a blow on harepaws muzzle making it bleed. he quickly snaked around Harepaw and landed a well-aimed blow on Harepaw’s shoulder. making him stagger backwards. Harepaw slipped under adderpaw’s belly and clawed at it with his hind paws, then landing a powerful blow on adderpaw’s hindleg making him lose his balance and fall. he quickly jumped on top of adderpaw. and raked his claws across his back. adderpaw quickly turned around and raked his hind paws across his belly then slithered from under him and bit down on his front leg making it bleed. then he jumped on him and raked his claws across his flank. harepaw kicked adderpaw away and turned tail and ran, his grey pelt scratched and ruffled from the battle.
“That’ll teach you not to mess with storm clan” Meowed adderpaw as harepaw scurried into the tunnel and disappeared. adderpaw turned around and saw Mudpaw fighting a black barkclan warrior two times her size. Adderpaw quickly ran over to her and jumped on top of the black cat while Mudpaw gave him several strong blows to the muzzle. the black cat shook Adderpaw away which sent him flying he landed with a loud thud but quickly got to his paws and launched himself back onto the black tom this time he raked his claws across the toms back until they started bleeding then he bit down hard on his ear which sent them bleeding while Mudpaw slid under the tom and started clawing at his belly and his flank. the black tom knocked bot Adderpaw and Mudpaw and scurried away.
soon all the barkclan cats fled with scars that they will remember. Adderpaw sat beside Mudpaw.
“Thanks for helping me against darkstream.” she said as she glanced over at his scars. “you might want to see Pebblepath for those wounds.” she continued.
“No, other cats need her more than me,” he said as he started grooming his ruffled fur.
“I’ll get us some fresh kill,” said Mudpaw. Adderpaw watched as she padded over to the fresh-kill pile and picked out a fat Squirrel. then padded back to adderpaw. They both devoured the squirrel with a few swift bites. then Pebblepath came up to them.
“My den NOW” she ordered. Adderpaw glanced over to mudpaw and started walking behind pebblepath.
“I’m going to get you some cobwebs for your ear and your shoulder other than that you’re ready to go.” meowed Pebblepath as she padded into a tunnel that led to her herb storage. she quickly returned with a pawful of cobwebs and carefully placed them on adderpaw’s wounds. His mentor Flowerstripe was standing outside.
“MY WARRIOR CEREMONY TOMORROW!!!!!” Adderpaw asked excitedly. half not believing what he just heard.
“yes, you fought well in today’s battle. and you already passed your hunting assessment so you are ready to become a warrior. I already talked to Hawkstar” Said Flowerstripe.

    *******************
“May all cats old enough to navigate the tunnels Gather here beneath the boulder for a clan meeting” Meowed a ginger she-cat. Slowly all the cats in Stormclan were sitting in the clearing, and the ginger cat continued.
“Today Three cats are ready to become Warriors, Adderpaw, Tawnypaw and Mudpaw.” meowed the ginger cat. the three cats stepped forward their pelts well-groomed, their eyes shining with excitement. “you three have worked hard to learn the warrior code and it is your time to become warriors, Adderpaw, Tawnypaw, Mudpaw. Do you promise to uphold the warrior code and protect your clan even at the cost of your life?” Meowed the ginger cat.
“we do” Meowed the three apprentices.
“The I Foxstar leader of Stormclan give you your warrior names. From this moment on you shall be known As Adderbite, Tawnycreek and Mudleap. Starclan honours your courage and determination and we welcome you as full warriors of stormclan.”
“Adderbite, Tawnycreek, Mudleap” chanted the clan. But amidst the chanting, everyone missed the smell of something near the entrance tunnel.

    Prologue

Starleaf woke in a dream. She stood at the entrance to a large cave in a storm. She was surrounded by water, and was being spayed by freezing droplets. Starleaf looked around, alarmed to see shore too far away to swim to. Even if it was close enough I wouldn’t be able to swim in these waves, she thought as water sprayed her fur. Yuck! It tastes salty! She gagged.
Suddenly she heard movement in the cave. Loud pawsteps drew nearer until a bader emerged. Starleaf screeched in alarm, her fur bristling. “I do not harm Clan cats,” the badger said calmly. “Y-you can talk!” The badger ignored Starleaf and tilted her white striped head towards the sky. “My name is Midnight,” she said. “Did StarClan send you?” Starleaf asked. The badger ignored her.
“I have a message for you,” Midnight said, looking down at Starleaf once more. A prophecy? “A great evil is coming.” said Midnight. “There will be three of great ability to shield us from both shadow and sun.” Starleaf opened her mouth to ask what in the name of StarClan that meant but the dream was already fading. “Wait!” she called out, but there was no reply.

    Chapter one

Shadekit woke to a paw prodding eagerly at her side. “Shadekit!” she opened her eyes to see her brother Emeraldkit standing over her. “The dawn patrols back!” he mewed with excitement. Shadekit jumped to her paws “let’s wake Swishkit!” she said, bounding over to Swishkit, her other littermate, who was cuddled up beside their mother Ebonystar. “Wake up! The brown tabby tom muttered something, and rolled over. Lazy furrball, she thought.
“The dawn patrols here!” she said before following Emeraldkit out of the nursery; a nest made out of willow tendrils that were woven together.
It was a chilly leafbare morning, with clouds covering the sky.
Shadekit spotted Tendilfoot, Rippletail, Wildfur, and her father Sky, dropping their catches onto the freshkill pile.
Shadekit padded up to them, and watched as Wildfur dropped a fat trout onto the pile. “Nice catch,” she commented. “Thanks,” he replied. “You’ll be catching prey like that one day,” said Sky, as he added his squirrel to the pile. Suddenly she heard meows and scuffling behind her. She whipped around to see Emeraldkit play-fighting with Swishkit. “Don’t mess with NightClan smelly badger!” Emeraldkit mewed defiantly. Swishkit rolled over mewling happily. “I’m no badger, you mouse-brain!” he said
“You’re the badger! You’re even black and white!”
“Quiet down,” their mother Ebonystar had emerged from the nursrey. “Why don’t you bring some prey to the elders?” she suggested. “Race ya!” Shadekit said, snatching a Wildfur’s trout and dashing off. She raced across the clearing and slipped into the elders den
The elders’ den was a cave that was dimly lit, and it took awhile for Shadekit’s eyes to adjust. Emeraldkit nearly crashed into her and dropped his rat. clumsy furrball. “Hello kits,” said a voice at the back of the cave. “Hi Dayfall,” Shadekit said around her trout. “We brought food!” Emeraldkit piped up as Swishkit entered the den.
“I smell starling,” Brownstripe’s head poked out of the gloom, his blind gaze sweeping the room.
Swishkit dropped his starling in front of Brownsripe who bent down and bit into it, purring.
“Would you like to hear a story?” Dayfall suggested, as she took a bite of her rat. “How did Brownstripe go blind?” Emeraldkit asked sitting down. “Well…” Brownstripe started. Suddenly a leaf fluttered past the elders den. Shadekit pounced on it, but just then she spotted a beetle slowly making its way across the ground. My first prey! Thought Shadekit excitedly. She immediately crouched, slowly pursuing it until it stopped. Now!
She pounced on and landed on it squarely. Shadekit heard a purr and looked up. Starleaf sat a rabbit length away. How did I not notice her? The beetle wriggled out from under Shadekit’s paws and scurried away. mouse-dung! Shadekit sat up, her tail flicking irritatedly. “Don’t be upset,” said the elderly medicine cat. “Come in.” she said beckoning with her tail.
“I’m going to tell you a story,” Starleaf said as Shadekit entered the medicine den, “about a dream I had a long time ago.” Shadekit’s eyes stretched wide. “With StarClan?”
“I believe so,” Starleaf said. “I was at the entrance to a cave, on an island, in an endless salty lake, with roaring waves,” Starleaf began. “ A badger emerged-” “a badger?” Shadekit interrupted. “Sorry,” she said, realizing she had interrupted her medicine cat.
“That’s okay,” said Starleaf purring. “And yes a badger” she went on, sitting down. “The badger said her name was Midnight, and that she had a prophecy.” Why is Starleaf telling me this? Shadekit thought. “She said ‘a great evil is coming. There will be three of great ability to shield us from both shadow and sun’.”

    Chapter 2

“Why are you telling me this?” Shadekit asked. Starleaf was about to answer when Emeraldkit poked his head into the medicine stump. “Ebonystar’s calling a clan meeting!” Shadekit bounded out of the medicine stump, and joined her clanmates where they sat around the highcliff. Ebonystar sat on top of it, her yellow gaze sweeping her clanmates.
“Hold still!” Shadekit turned and saw Needlfeather holding Elmkit down while she groomed him. Of course! Shadekit thought. Glowingkit and Elmkit were becoming apprentices! Shadekit caught Glowingkit’s eye. She didn’t look very nervous.
Shadekit padded over to Glowingkit. “Good luck.” she whispered, and then joined Swanfeather who was grooming her round belly. Her kits are due any day now. Shadekit thought.
“Cats of NightClan,” Ebonystar began, “Newleaf is drawing nearer, and new life is on the way.” She looked at Swanfeather. “I think it’s time to get new apprentices.” she mewed
“Glowingkit please come here.” Ebonystar said, jumping down from the Highcliff.
    Glowingkit trotted up to Ebonystar.
“Until she becomes a warrior, this kit will be known as Glowingpaw.” Ebonystar said, touching Glowingpaw’s head with her muzzle. Ebonysar wasn’t much bigger than Glowingkit. “Sky,” she said, turning her head to her mate. “I think it’s time you had an apprentice,” Sky’s eyes sparkled with joy as Glowingpaw bounded over to him. “Elmkit,” Ebonystar continued, tuning to the brown tom. Fear lit his gaze. “It’s okay little one.” Needlefeather murmured, nudging him forward. Elmkit slowly paded up to his leader.
“From now on you shall be known as Elmpaw. You will train with Starleaf in the Medicine den.” Ebonystar announced. Relief flooded Elmpaw’s eyes as he padded over to his new mentor. “Glowingpaw! Elmpaw!” Shadekit joined her clanmates as they yowled to the slowly lightening sky.

“It’s getting late,” said Ebonystar looking at the sinking sun. Two days had passed since Glowingpaw and Elmpaw had their apprentice ceremony. Glowingpaw had caught a squirrel on her first trip out of camp, and Rainsong had moved to the nursrey.
“Why don’t you go to the nursery now? I’ll be there in a moment,” said Ebonysar. Shadekit noticed her and Swanfeather exchange a look, but said nothing. Her and her littermates padded over to the nursrey and curled up together. But Shadekit was not tired.
She twisted and turned until Emeraldkit cuffed her ear. “If you’re not going to stay still then go somewhere else.”
Shadekit got up and stretched. Suddenly she heard voices outside the den. She peered out into the moonlit clearing. Ebonystar sat beside Swanfeather.
They seemed to be waiting for something.
Then Starleaf emerged from the medicine stump, and padded over to them. “Starleaf are you sure-” Swanfeather began but Starleaf silenced her with a flick of her tail. “I am sure.” She said tilting her head up to the stars. “It is time.” she curled up on the ground and rapped her tail over her nose. Swanfeather and Ebonystar began to leave but Starleaf called them back. “Wait,” she said, “I want my last moments to be around the cats I love most.” Ebonystar and Swanfeather curled up beside Starleaf. Shadekit watched them until she could hardly keep her eyes open. She slowly headed back into her nest and let sleep take her.

    Chapter 3

Shadekit woke to voices outside the nursrey. Emeraldkit and Swishkit were stirring. Shadekit padded outside to see Starleaf, Ebonystar and Swanfeather still curled in the middle of the clearing.
Except something was different about Starleaf.
When Ebontstar and Swanfeather rose and stretched Starleaf stayed where she was.
Shadekit padded up to her and sniffed her. She smelled different too. Is she sick? Just then Ebonystar jumped up onto the highcliff.
“Let all cats old enough to swim come beneath the highcliff for a clan meeting.” Ebonystar called, as Birchtail and Sunfoot emerged from the warriors den, and Glowingpaw padded out of the apprentices den yawning.
“I have some sad news,” she announced, glancing down at Starleaf. “Starleaf died last night.” gasps of shock and grief filled the clearing, and Shadekit nearly fell over in shock. “She died peacefully in her sleep.” Ebonystar said but Shadekit didn’t hear. Dead. she had never really knowed the true meaning of death. “What about Elmpaw?” Needlefeather called “he’s only been an apprentice for two days!” Shadekit looked up, distracted for a moment. She’s right. Who willI train in Elmpaw? ”I will accompany Elmpaw to the Star Cave tomorrow night.” Ebonystar said. “StarClan will decide.” Shadekit tuned to Elmpaw.
He looked as though Ebonystar had just told him she was a badger.
“That is all.” finished Ebonystar, leaping down from the highcliff.
For a moment the entire clan was silent.
“Sunfoot, could you lead a hunting patrol to the moor?” Birchtail said breaking the silence.
“S-sure.” siad Sunfoot, “who should I take?” she asked. “Phesantflight, Sky, and Needlefeather.” Birchtail began assigning duties, the hunting patrol headed out and the clan slowly dispersed, leaving Shadekit and Glowingpaw.
    “Uh Shadekit,” Glowingpaw started,
“you started to tell me about something Starleaf told you, remember? A few days after I fell in the river?” oh yeah! Shadekit had forgotten about the story and the prophecy.
Shadekit explained what Starleaf had told her to Glowingpaw. Who stared in amazement. “I had a dream about a salty lake and a badger too! And Nightstar was in it!” she exclaimed.
“And the prophecy?” Shadekit asked. “Yes!” Glowingpaw replied, jumping to her paws “do you think we’re destined to be medicine cats?” Shadekit asked.
I want to be a warrior.
“I’m not,” Glowingpaw replied, shaking her head. “In my dream the badger told me to look into the salty lake, and I saw myself on the highcliff! I’m destined to be leader!I”

    Chapter 4

“Leader?” Shadekit echoed. “Yes!” said Glowingpaw. “And I don’t think you’re destined to be a medicine cat either because the last thing NighClan needs is two medicine cat apprentices with no mentor.” she pointed out. Few! Thought Shadekit.
“But what does the prophecy mean?” she asked. “I-” she started. “Glowingpaw!” Shadekit and Glowingpaw turned. Sky stood with Tendrilfoot, Dewfrost and Vinetail.
“You’re coming on a border patrol with us,” he said beconning her over with his tail. “I have to go,” Glowingpaw said, “we’ll talk more later.” she finished before padding away to join the rest of the border patrol.
Shadekit wished she was an apprentice like Glowingpaw. She let out a sigh and padded into the medicine stump. I needed answers. She thought then remembered that Starleaf wouldn’t be there.
A fresh wave of grief washed over her but when she entered the medicine stump she found Ebonystar and Swanfeather in it they looked up as she entered.
“Hello Shadekit,” said Swanfeather. Shadekit felt like she’d walked in on something. And backed out of the den. She padded back into the camp and looked up at the sky. It was getting dark and stars were beginning to appear. I should probably go to sleep. Shadekit thought of padding into the nursrey, were Emeraldkit and Swishkit were already curled up together. She carefully nestled in beside Emeraldkit and let sleep take her.

Shadekit woke to watery dawn light filtering through the nursery walls, dappling her pelt. Outside the nursrey Ebonystar was talking to Birchtail about fox scents on their territory.
A cough sounded from the Medicine den.
“Is Sky still sick?” Shadekit asked. “Yes but hopefully Elmpaw can help him,” Ebonystar said.
If Elmpaw ever finds a mentor, Shadekit thought bitterly. “Birchtail is training Glowingpaw for now.”
    “Ok,” said Shadekit.
“And that reminds me,” said Ebonystar, padding towards the Highcliff.
    “You’re six moons old.”
What’s so cool about being six moons old? Shadekit thought. Then she remembered. “My apprentice ceremony!” she said excitedly.
Where’s Glowingpaw? She has to be here to see this! And Emeraldkit and Swishkit? It’s their ceremony too!
She scanned the clearing for her littermates and spotted them play-fighting at the edge of the clearing.
    Shadekit raced over to them.
“Our apprentice ceremony is starting!” she said before turning around and bounding back into the center of the camp. “What?!” She heard Emeraldkit shout behind her.
“Let all cats old enough to leave camp gather here for a clan meeting.” Ebonystar said, jumping up onto the Highcliff.
Shadekit spotted Glowingpaw pad out of the apprentice’s den and stretched.
“Emeraldkit, Shadekit, and Swishkit are now six moons old, and it’s time for their apprentice ceremony.” Ebonystar announced.
Exited murmurs rippled through the gathered cats.
    “Emeraldkit please come forward.”
The black and white tom padded forward.
“From now on you shall be known as Emeraldpaw. Your mentor will be Pheasantflight.”
Emeraldpaw padded over to his new mentor.
“Shadekit please come forward,” Shadekit padded up to her mother.
“Until you receive your warrior you will be known as Shadepaw.”
She felt a rush of pride seep through her.
I’m an apprentice! Who’s gonna be my mentor?
“Your mentor will be Sunfoot.” Shadepaw let out a purr as she trotted up to the yellow she-cat who touched her nose to Shadepaw’s.
“Swishkit please come forward,” Shadepaw watched as her brother walked up to Ebonystar.
“From now on you shall be known as Swishpaw. Your mentor will be Wildfur.”
Swishpaw padded over to his new mentor and touched noses with him.
    “Emeraldpaw!”
    “Shadepaw!”
    “Swishpaw!”
Shadepaw purred as her clanmates called her and her littermates names.

    Chapter 5

Shadepaw blinked open her eyes. Dawn light was flooding through the apprentice’s den. “Shadepaw,” Sunfoot was poking her head into the den.
My first time out of camp! Shadepaw thought with a rush of excitement.
She leaped to her paws and bounded past Sunfoot and into the clearing.
    Glowingpaw was sitting with Birchtail.
“Today i’m going to show you around our territory.” Sunfoot said, backing out of the apprentice’s den.
    “Can Glowingpaw come?” Shadepaw asked.
“If it’s ok with Birchtail.” responded her mentor.
Shadepaw bounded up to Birchtail who turned to look at her.
“Can Glowingpaw come with me and Sunfoot on my first trip out of camp?” she asked excitedly.
“Sure,” responded Birchtail, standing up. “Come on Glowingpaw.”
Excitement fizzed through Shadepaw as Sunfoot led her through the exit for the first time.

    BEAUTIFUL EYES
    GRAYSTRIPE TO SILVERSTREAM
    Oh, oh
    Those beautiful eyes
    Oh, oh
    Those beautiful eyes

    Fifty shades of blue
    Staring into me
    As we meet downstream again
    A flicker of warmth
    And a glow of happiness

    Fifty shades of blue
    Staring into my own eyes
Just like the color of the bright morning sky

    Oh, your beautiful eyes
    Those beautiful eyes
Would they still glow without me
    Those beautiful eyes
    Oh your beautiful eyes
    Oh your beautiful eyes
Would they still glow without me

    Staring into them
    Makes me feel like
    I’m in a different world
    With just you and me

    Gazing into them
    Drives me to madness
Wondering if I could ever let you go

Girl your eyes make me smile
    So much that I falter
So much that I can’t stand still

    For hours and hours
    I could gaze into them
Feel your gaze burning through my back

  • -CHAPTER 1-

Hawkkit looked up at Quietstream, it had been a few moons since Emberkit’s disappearance, he was the only one Hawkkit enjoyed playing with, none of the other kits would play Clan’s with them, not like Emberkit anyways, they always wanted to be leader and would walk away or argue when Hawkkit tried to explain that there wasn’t a “leader”, there was a “guardian”.

    —————————————————————————————————————————-
WHOOOOOOOOOO this took nearly an entire school day to make! Anyways! This is Chapter 2! I tried to make it longer, now, questions!

    Why did Bladestar go quiet?
How did Hawkkit know where Emberkit was, and how did they find him in their dream?
Do you think Emberkit will run away again?

  • Chapter 5 (1 fourth to the end) (Of When The Stars Leave The Sky)
Sorry, it’s very short but who cares.
Riverpaw gazed at Mistypaw. Poor Mistypaw. He thought. She’s got Hazeldust as her mentor. What a pain. Riverpaw’s mother was Hazeldust. Lemoncrash had used to tease him. “I have no idea where that grumpy tone came from!” Lemonpaw had exclaimed. “It most certainly couldn’t have come from Hazeldust!” Riverpaw chuckled slightly. Mistypaw stormed into the den. Nearly stepping on Riverpaw’s head. “Hey!” He grumbled. “Be quiet.” Mistypaw growled back. Slumping, Riverpaw padded out of the den. He padded over to Firepaw. “Hi!” She welcomed. “Is there anything I can do for you?” She asked. “N-no. Just kind of bored. “Hey, I’m the one stuck sorting herbs half of my free time.” She said, rolling her eyes as a leaf of catmint balanced perfectly on her nose. “Seems like you’re an expert with herbs.” Riverpaw commented. Firepaw snorted. “Tinyfern is always bugging me.” She sighed. “Firepaw! Don’t boss Wavepaw around! Firepaw! Too much marigold! Firepaw! Go see if Rosepaw’s okay! Firepaw this! Firepaw that!” Firepaw mimicked Tinyfern’s soft, high voice. “Ughh…” She moaned. “I’m so glad you’re here. Otherwise I’d probably be tearing my fur out.” “Well, You’re welcome.” Rverpaw said, smiling. “Please.” Firepaw walked to the end of the den. Making sure to boop Riverpaw with her big fluffy tail on her way there.  “Hey!” Riverpaw snapped. “The apple never falls far from the tree.” Firepaw murmured. Riverpaw stuck his tongue out. Firepaw did the same. The two apprentices laughed.  Booping, laughing, and hanging out the entire night.

  • I don’t know if this is good, but I want to write a fan fiction, so here’s the prolouge. Ideas? Crtique?

A shadow passed through the trees, sending the forest into darkness. Two cats stood close together, staring out at the shadow.
“Redrise, I think this is an omen.” The first cat, a small brown and black tabby she-cat murmured
“Lilynettle, this is an omen.” the second cat, a ginger tom named Redrise replied
“And my death was the first sign…” Lilynettle whispered, horrified
    “Yes.” Redrise sighed soothingly
“Why was I the cat chosen to die?” Lilynettle demanded
“Lilynettle, I must tell you a prophecy. You will tell this to a cat of your clan when they are old enough.” Redrise said, seeming to be ignoring what she had asked
    “Okay…”
“Twisted vines of fear and fighting shall shine down upon the clans, but there will be a bond stronger that stone to end the river’s wave of blood.”
    “But I don’t understand!”
“You don’t need to. That will be the job of the cat you give the prophecy to.”
“But how will I know who to give it to?”
“You will know when the time comes.”
Redrise disappeared a moment later, leaving Lilynettle to sit, pondering about the prophecy Redrise had just given her.
‘Who will I give it to?’ she thought
She tried to push away the prophecy, and instead focused on the OakClan camp.
In the center of camp was her Clanmates gathered around her dead body.
And squealing next to a young queen named Bluesky was Lilynettle’s newborn kits who she had left behind when she died.
“Smokekit, Hazelkit. My loves. I’m sorry I left you.” Lilynettle whispered, feeling the tears spring up in her eyes, “I know that Bluesky and the rest of the clan will take good care of you. Someday we’ll be together again. But hopefully not soon.”
However much it pained her to say that, she knew her kits needed to live their lives peacefully, even if she wanted them to be with her.

  • Of Shattered Stars — Chapter 3 (Thunder + Ashfur)

Bumble crouched, her hindquarters wiggling in the air behind her as she stalked slowly closer to her prey. Her fluffy golden kitten fur stood out against the cool sea of green grass, but she had no doubt that her skills were more than enough to make up for that.
With a ferocious yowl, she lunged, her tiny claws tearing the delicate petals of the doomed daffodil into a pile of crumpled shreds. “Take that, you mousebrained fish eater,” she growled. A blade of grass dared to stab at her chin, and, with another battle cry, she tore it from its roots and gave it a thorough chewing.
“Bumble said mousebrain!” a squeaky voice chirped, and the young yellow tabby’s fur bristled up into a sunny cloud of distress as a pair of large paws blocked her view of the rest of the flower bed.
“I did not, Robert is a liar!” she objected, following the paws up to the face of her father’s stern face. Nervously, she gnawed at another blade of grass, eyeing him hesitantly. She didn’t understand why her brother had to be such a spoilsport, especially since she’d heard him say foxdung the last time Scone had shoved him in the mud.
Turtle lowered his head down, his huge chin brushing his daughter’s ears as he scooped her up by her scruff, and set her back down on her paws. “Y’know what I’m going to say, Bumble?” he prompted, gentle but still stern.
“No swearing at the flowers?” Bumble muttered, more indignant than ashamed.
“No swearing at the flowers,” Turtle confirmed, shaking his head slightly. “Your pop’s a bad influence.”
“Pop’s a great influence,” she objected, brightening at the mention of her other father. He wouldn’t have yelled at her for swearing at the flowers, especially not when the tulips had definitely deserved it.
“Hmmm,” Turtle murmured, ducking down the lick down a bit of fur on the top of her head. “Well, you’ve gotten dirt in your fur again. You’re going to need-”
“No, no, no! I don’t need another bath!” Bumble objected, scrambling away. Around Turtle’s huge tabby form, she could see her brother, Robert, wearing a particularly smug expression. “Why do we have to be clean today anyway?”
“Yeah, what’re we doing out here anyway?” Scone complained, poking her brown, ginger, and white head around Turtle. She gestured around at the garden, scowling. “It’s chilly today. I want to go back inside.”
Turtle grimaced slightly, and glanced away. “It’s nice out.”
“Daddy’s making his lying face,” Bumble whispered loudly, grinning as her siblings scuttled over to peer critically up at their father.
“Yep,” Scone agreed, nodding wisely. “That’s the lying face.”
    “Bad Daddy,” Robert scolded.
“I,” Turtle said, the corners of his mouth twitching up disobediently, “Most certainly do not have a lying face.”
“You most certainly do, you scheming foxheart,” a voice called, a voice that made Bumble’s heart soar higher than any bird could ever go. Turtle gave up his failing attempt at a straight face, and grinned.
“Pop!!” all three kits squealed in synchronous, all bearing identical grins to Turtle.
“We talked about this, Lizzardsight,” Turtle purred, leaning over to brush his head against his mate’s, “They repeat every single word you say, especially the insults.”
Lizzardsight smirked, giving Turtle a light tap on the nose with his paw before spinning around to face his kits.
Lizzardsight had the most spectacular eyes that Bumble had ever seen, and she always wished that she had the same ones as him. They were yellow, like plenty of cats, but with flecks of darker streaks that made them look like, well, lizard eyes. “How’re my little warriors?” he purred, flopping down on the flowerbed beside them, with a goofy grin Bumble saw all too infrequently.
“Tell us about Shadowclan!” Scone demanded, clambering onto his head and peering down at his face from above. “Did you end up fighting the fishclan like you said you were going to last quarter moon?”
Bumble squirmed over, settling herself between Lizzardsight’s paws as Robert sat primly down beside her, his tail draped neatly over his paws. Turtle tucked himself up against Lizzardsight’s side, still wearing the same goofy grin.
Even though she only saw him four times a moon, Lizzardsight was probably her favorite cat ever. And even though she knew he loved all the others, Bumble was pretty sure she was his favorite too.

“Mousedung,” Bumble growled, irritable detangling herself from the tulips as she struggled after Scone. Technically speaking, they weren’t supposed to be out at night, but with the half moon shining bright up above it wasn’t all that dark. Scone’s reasoning was that if they could still see, it didn’t really count as night, and Turtle wouldn’t mind.
Not that they were kits anymore, no matter how her father seemed to act, but Bumble didn’t mind Turtle’s fussing. If Robert or Scone strayed too far into the forest, they might not come back, and Bumble never wanted her siblings to leave her.
“Are you sure you heard a noise?” Bumble asked, darting after her sister. She couldn’t see out beyond the garden, which contained only its usual assortment of flowers, but even so she shifted so that she was in front of Scone. If there was something out and about, Bumble planned on being the first to give it a clawing.
“I’m sure,” Scone grumbled, shooting her an irritable look. “But keep your voice down, Robert will hear you.”
Robert, of course, was not invited, given that he was a perpetual spoilsport and prone to tattling even in adulthood. He had the bravery of a mouse and the ears of a bat.
“Well, there’s nothing here,” Bumble said, gesturing at the flowers. Scone shook her head, checking under a leafy bush as if there might be a cat or a badger hidden in its greenery.
Then, as if intent on undermining her, a shrill shriek split the air. In front of her, Bumble saw Scone’s fur fluff with fear, but she forced her own to remain flat. “That’s a cat,” she whispered, shifting closer to the garden entrance. “Someone’s in trouble.”
“We can’t go-” Scone began to say, but Bumble was already slipping under the garden’s metal gate, ignoring the rough scrape of the gravel beneath her belly. Without waiting to see if Scone would follow, she bolted out into the forest.
The scent hit her almost immediately, as bold and loud as a bright color or the scream she was following.
    Shadowclan.
Turtle said it wasn’t safe in the forest. The few times he’d taken them out of the garden, he’d led them to the scent line as if being smelly made the clan cats more intimidating. But, really, the only thing the scent made her think of was Lizzardsight.
She was painfully aware of how loud her paws were, each step seeming to land in a nest of brittle, cracking twigs. The forest itself had gone silent, with even the crickets having fled.
She sniffed the air, recoiling slightly at the heavy, metallic smell of blood in the air. She considered calling out to the cat, but while she needed to find whoever was hurt, she didn’t feel the same about whoevers claws had inflicted the damage.
Careful, she crept onwards, squinting against the darkness as the trees blocked the moon’s light from reaching the forest floor. It had been ages since she’d been this far from home, but despite the icy fear prickling her pelt, she was not afraid of the forest itself. It was like it was welcoming her home, not luring her into a trap.
Suddenly, her paw brushed something soft, warm, and sticky. Slowly, Bumble looked down, already knowing what she was going to find.
The tom beside her, his pitch black fur nearly invisible in the shadows, was completely soaked with his own blood. Bumble sniffed at him, the scent of mint tickling her nose.
Mint? For the briefest moment she was confused, until she remembered something that Lizzardsight had told her several seasons ago. When someone was up to no good, for instance, Lizzardsight himself, they rolled around in a patch of mint to hide their scent.
Meaning not only did someone kill this cat, but they’d planned to do it ahead of time. With a jolt of fear, Bumble peered at the trees around her, no longer feeling so friendly about the forest. What murderer was it hiding within its depths?
She needed to go, but it didn’t feel right to leave the Shadowclan tom outside alone for the badgers, especially not when she’d left the safety of her home just to help him. With a grunt, Bumble snagged his soggy scruff, gagging at the salty taste that instantly flooded her mouth. She braised her paws against the ground, and pulled, starting the long journey home.

“Bumble! Oh, thank goodness,” Turtle yelped, slipping under the gate the moment the house came into view. He bolted to her side, then stiffened at the sight of the corpse she was dragging behind her. “Mousedung,” he murmured, his eyes wide with terror.
“No swearing,” Robert chided from behind him, then fell silent as he too spotted Bumble’s new companion.
“This is a swear worthy moment,” Turtle muttered, rocking uneasily on his paws and looking a little sick. “Bumble, where did you find him? Did you go out in the forest? Alone? Are you okay?”
“Yeah,” she said distractedly, waving away his concerned sniff with a blood soaked paw. “It’s all his blood, I’m fine. He was fighting someone out there, though,” she added, glancing over her shoulder in the direction she’d come from.
“What’re we going to do with him?” Bumble wondered out loud.
“Bury him?” Turtle suggested, with an uneasy shrug. “I don’t see what else we can do.”
“We should take him back to his clanmates,” Scone objected, staring sadly down at the dead tom. “They’re probably worried about him. It’s the least we can do.”
“No,” Turtle objected, shaking his head wildly. Robert looked equally concerned, but Scone exchanged a long glance with Bumble.
This cat had been a clan cat, just like Lizzardsight. A noble warrior, a brave soul caught unaware in some sort of ambush. If it were Bumble laying there, limp and bleeding, she’d at least want the comfort of knowing that she’d be going home one last time.
“Absolutely not,” Turtle continued, his voice growing hard with fear driven anger, “I forbid it. Those cats don’t like kittypets, you know. And what if they think we’re the ones that killed him? Plus, whatever did this is still out there. It’s not safe.”
Bumble gazed down at the black cat, then back at Turtle. “What if Lizzardsight knew this guy, Dad?” she murmured, shaking her head slightly. “What if this was his brother or something.”
“He didn’t have any brothers,” Turtle growled, still shaking his head.
“That’s beside the point. We have to take him back.”
Turtle hesitated, eyeing the looming forest. Then, slowly, he gave a single nod. “Alright, but we’ll all go together, and certainly not until it’s light. I’m not trusting those cats with any more of my family.”

  • Larkflight’s Shadow
    CHAPTER TWO:

“He’s with StarClan now…” Moonstripe’s voice was barely a grieving whisper in the deafening silence that followed her observation of the leader’s body. Larkflight wanted to close her eyes and find herself somewhere else to think. But every warrior’s gaze fell on her expectedly. “Do you think this is an attack from ShadowClan?” Ashcloud narrowed his eyes accusingly, his whiskers twitching. “It can’t be.” Briarsky shook her head, her green eyes pools of sorrow.
Larkflight’s eyes traveled over to the half-eaten shrew next to Cedarstar’s nest. She walked up to it, sniffing it cautiously. “No,” She hissed, “He ate this shrew that was stuffed with death berries. Whoever killed him is walking around in camp right now.” She flexed her claws indignantly into the soil.

Moonstripe’s silver fur bristled as lightning flashed across her misty blue eyes. “Oh no…”
She lowered her head with frozen shock on her broad face. Larkflight frowned sourly. I don’t like this as much as anyone in this den, she thought. A shiver crept up her spine like lapping icy waters. She felt like she was drowning in leaf-bare waters. Cedarstar’s death was almost like the ice that suddenly broke beneath her pads, plummeting her to her worst fear.

“Larkflight?” Briarsky whispered gently, shaking the tortoiseshell out of her thoughts. Was she talking to me this whole time? Larkflight thought as she shook away the cold feeling in her chest. “Yes?” The dark tortoiseshell and white she cat cleared her throat. “Are you okay?” Her sister’s eyes were round and worried like a kit. “I don’t know.” Larkflight sighed, slowly approaching the entrance of den. She could already hear the murmurs and cries of cats outside, their fears screaming in her ears. Every step brings me to my worst fears that are waiting outside the den for me, she thought.
The deputy’s pelt was fluffed out as clouds covered the sky, eyes on her.
She stood silently on the Highrock. Where Cedarstar used to stand, Larkflight sorrowfully recalled, closing her eyes for a brief moment.

“Cedarstar is dead.” She announced to the crowd, hearing their anguished cries rise to the trees that used to thrive with green leaves before this horrifying moment. Larkflight dug her claws into the stone, trying to stop her shoulders from trembling. “There were deathberries stuffed in the shrew he ate and a…a gash on his throat,” Her voice cracked, making her squeeze her claws deeper into the stone, “This isn’t an attack from the other Clans. It is an attack from inside our Clan.” The words slithered off her tongue like a snake as cats’ suspicious eyes traveled to one another.

“Who gave the shrew to Cedarstar?” Larkflight demanded, her amber eyes flashing as she stared at every warrior in the crowd. “I-I did.” A small figure stepped out to the front of the crowd; Nightpaw. Briarsky’s face was struck with shock from where she stood at the front of the crowd. “When?” She gasped out, shutting her jaws as she glanced up at Larkflight. “Last night. I-I didn’t know-” Nightpaw’s voice broke off as tears started bubbling in her eyes, “I didn’t know there were deathberries!”
The crowd rippled like wild waters, out of Larkflight’s control. “Quiet! Quiet!” She yowled, silencing everyone.
“We will find out who did this,” She looked at Ashcloud and Briarsky, “Guard the camp. Make sure everyone is here in camp and doesn’t leave,” Larkflight flicked her tail to the fresh kill pile, “We have prey, but check before eating it.” Just in case, Larkflight fearfully thought.

Moonstripe looked up at Larkflight with solemn eyes. “Larkflight, we need to go to the Moonstone.” Those words cemented the fear that froze Larkflight where she stood. But she moved, jumping down and following Moonstripe towards the gorse tunnel. Larkflight glanced back at her sister with round eyes. Briarsky dipped her head.
Everything is going to be okay, Larkflight told herself, but her heart still raced in her chest.

Her fears kept whispering in her ears.
Larkflight stared up at the sky. If you’re up there in the stars, Cedarstar…watch over me. She thought, How could I carry on the journey from where you stopped?

  • Update on my fan fictions:

So I’ve officially finished Ashstorm’s heart! If you’d like me to though, I could write one more story about her and Brownie, or just one of Ashstorm’s adventures. Then I still have to do a short story about ShadowClan and ThunderClan! 😀 Wow, I started the short stories from the five Clans back in January! 😛 🙂
But before I do ShadowClan and ThunderClan, I’ll do short stories about the cats winners of my in or out game chose! So fan fictions about these cats are coming up soon:
Brambleberry, Ravenfrost, (Tigershine’s OC) Featherwhisker, Honeyfern, Firestar. And then a fan fiction about Shimmerstorm and Hawk’s whisker, Firefox and Trynatstorm.
And then I’ll write a fan fiction using these three words: Freedom, sorrow, twilight.
And I had an idea for another fan fiction which will be coming to BlogClan soon!
What this fan fiction will be about: Three newly founded Clans, RainClan, WillowClan, and BreezeClan, live very close to Twoleg apartment homes. There is a bank beside the apartments, and down below is a thin river, with many islands dotted here and there, dappled sunlight speckling the ground, willows and reeds whispering in the wind. They all have their territories, the islands and prey divided. Not only do the Clans have to face difficulties like floods and poised rivers, and trash on their islands, they have to figure out the ways of Clan life. Since they have only been created two moons ago, they don’t know much, but a few StarClan cats help them.
Featherkit, is born into RainClan. She becomes apprenticed to the medicine cat, and has many secrets to uncover, difficulties to overcome. Read all about her adventures! Coming soon, to BlogClan! 😀
Alright! That’s it for now! Bye! 😀

  • A poem about Honeyfern and Berrynose! For Pinestripe, who won first place in my short story contest! (Sorry, it’s not that good)

I know I’m not the best cat
    Bitter, not at all sweet
    But when I see her
    My heart feels complete
    She’s kind, and smart
    Friendly, with all her heart
    Dappled gold
    Like bumblebee’s honey
    On days I’m cold
    I look at her
    And feel warm all over
    Breathing in her scent
    I’m in love, I know
    I’m worried for our future
But right now I’m in the present
    I love you, Honeyfern.
I love you will all my heart
Nothing will ever make us part.
    -Berrynose

  • Brook was kitting, and Stormfur was terrified.

He paced around and around, the mist from the waterfall dampening his fur, scraping his paws on the rock. He didn’t mind. The pain almost made him a tiny bit less anxious. He murmured prayers to StarClan and the Tribe of Endless Hunting under his breath.

Behind him, next to the pool the waterfall landed in, Pine and Lark whispered nervously to each other. Beside them, Talon stared into the distance.

They’d been out here for several hours now. Tribe custom had it that the mate and any previous kits of a queen-kit-mother-did not remain with her when she gave birth but were sent away, out into the main cave or out of the cave entirely, if possible. Apparently this was easier for everyone. The only cats with a kit-mother when she kitted were the Stoneteller, of course, in his duty as Healer, but also her mother or sisters, if she wanted.

But Brook had no mother and no sisters, and while Stoneteller was her brother, at least, it was killing Stormfur to be out here with Brook dying inside for all he knew.

His mother had scarcely had anyone with her either. All she’d had was his father and a terrified medicine cat apprentice, and that hadn’t been enough to prevent her death…

He shook himself. Stop it, he told himself for the hundredth time.

Gravel and cold earth crunched as Talon got up and walked a few steps toward him. “This isn’t Brook’s first time kitting,” he began, seeking to soothe Stormfur’s obvious agitation. He angled his ears toward Pine and Lark, who were now play-fighting in an effort to release some of their tension. “She was fine by them, and she’ll be fine now, the Tribe of Endless Hunting will it.”

“But she’s older now,” Stormfur fretted. “It’s more dangerous. What if…” He couldn’t continues, his worst fear stuck in his throat and blocking his tongue. What if…

Talon nodded sympathetically; Stormfur had confided his mother’s fate to Talon and Stoneteller when Brook had given birth to Pine and Lark, when it was the three of them pacing outside the cave, when Stoneteller was still Crag and Brook’s oldest brother had not yet joined the elders. “Stoneteller knows what he’s doing. The Tribe of Endless Hunting is guiding his paws. He’s helped many other kit-mothers give birth, and none of them have died, have they?”

“No,” Stormfur admitted. Stormfur was never in the Tribe’s cave when a cat gave birth; he always found an excuse to go hunting or something, for the same reason he was more nervous now than cats whose mothers had lived to a ripe old age would be.

He wandered down to the pool the waterfall fell into and stepped into it, the cold water seeping into his fur and making him shiver. He sunk into it so that only his ears and his nose stuck out.

A few heartbeats later, he felt a soft ripple and opened his eyes to see a familiar pale shape in the water beside him. He stuck his head out of the water. “Lark?”

“I think you’re right,” Lark answered, shivering. “Water does help calm you. But it’s cold.”

“It is,” Stormfur agreed. Lark wanted to be calm…Of course she was nervous! Brook was her mother, and she knew how Silverstream had died.

“She’ll be okay, right?” Lark asked, her wide eyes and tense ears-the same shape as Graystripe’s-betraying how nervous she was.

“She will,” Stormfur tried to reassure her with a confidence he did not feel. Who was he to know? Especially considering his past-maybe mothers dying young ran in his family? No, don’t think that.

“She was fine when we were born,” Pine pointed out to his sister. “Aren’t you cold.”

“Yes,” Lark admitted. “But it’s sort of soothing.”

    “How-”

He broke off upon seeing what the Tribe still refused to call a hunting patrol returning. Most of them headed up the path into the cave, but one of them, Bird That Rides the Wind, saw them and walked over. “Is Brook still…”

“Yes,” Talon said, upon seeing Stormfur too worried to answer. Why was Brook still kitting? They’d been out here for hours now. Was something wrong? Should he go to be with her? Surely it hadn’t taken this long when Pine and Lark were born, had it?

“Her second litter.” Bird’s breath was white in the frost air. “i regret never having kits myself…I never found a mate.” Bird was old now; she would most likely become an elder within the next few moons. Even if she did find a mate now, she was too old to have kits.

“You helped the Tribe in other ways,” Talon comforted her.

She nodded in thanks, then looked at Stormfur, all business now. “We caught a hawk. I’ll see that Brook gets a good portion.”

“Thank you,” he murmured, dipping his head.

She nodded at all of them, then climbed the trail to the cave.

Stormfur climbed out of the water, shook his fur to dry himself, although careful not to get any of the others wet, then walked over to the small mound of rocks that marked Feathertail’s final resting place. Feathertail, if you can do anything for her, intercede on her behalf, please…

He often thought that Feathertail would have loved Pine and Lark.

Some more time passed in tense silence, the only sound Lark’s tail splashing against the water.

Then Pebble scrambled out of the cave halfway down the path, calling “Stoneteller says you can come in now!”

Before the first two words were out of her mouth Stormfur was scrambling up the path, heedless of his claws scraping against the rock or how Pebble had to jump out of his way, Pine and Lark right behind him.

He raced into the cave and, weaving around whoever was in his way, ran into the kit-mother cave, his heart in his throat, over to Brook’s nest-

She was alive, alive, tired and weak but well, and his heart swelled with such emotion that he could not speak; he was filled with as much relief as when Pine and Lark were born; abruptly he sat down on the floor, his legs unable to support him right now, content to simply sit and stare at her forever.

She met his gaze and purred weakly. “I told you I would be fine,” she whispered.

    “You did,” he agreed.

“Come see,” she said, and he found that his legs could hold him up after all. Wobbly with relief, he walked over to her, to see her curled around two tiny suckling kits.

“Oh,” he whispered in awe. He’d forgotten how small they started out as. One tom and one she-kit, just like Pine and Lark.

“They’re teeny!” Lark breathed behind him, sounding not like a cave-guard but a delighted older sister. “They’re so cute!”

Pine nodded in agreement, both of them staring at their new younger siblings. “When are you going to go out and see what to name them?”

“Not until they open their eyes,” Brook said, her eyes aglow as she looked at all her kits. “So in a half moon or so, give or take a few sunrises.”

Lark’s tail drooped. “That’s so long!”

“That’s what I did with you,” Brook pointed out. “Your names turned out all right.”

The tom-kit was gray, almost the same color as the stone floor and walls, like Stormfur. The she-kit was pale brown. She should have looked like Brook, but oddly enough, the first thought that struck Stormfur was She looks like Feathertail.

“Really?” Pine asked, and Stormfur realized he’d spoken aloud. Lark’s eyes were wide, and Brook was squinting at her newborn daughter, as if comparing her features with a memory.

“She does,” Stormfur said, sure of it now. “The fur is a different color, but the pattern, the shape of her ears and head-it’s exactly like Feathertail.”

“Do you know,” Brook said wonderingly, “it is.”

“Wow!” Lark whispered. She and Pine had heard much of their famed relative. They were somewhat celebrities in the Tribe, being as their father’s sister was the cat who had saved them all from Sharptooth. The story had been told many times. But their father didn’t speak of her the same way most of the Tribe did, as a wise self-sacrificing savior. When he spoke of her, she was simply…his sister. Beautiful and kind and gentle. Pine and Lark had often wished they could meet her.

Stormfur looked as his newborn kits, and at his older ones, and at his mate. His heart was full with all of them. There had been a time when he had never imagined he could be as lucky, as fulfilled, as happy as this.

He only wished Feathertail hadn’t been the price to pay for it.

As he had done when Pine and Lark were born, Stormfur made a silent vow to himself to protect and defend his family no matter what, come what may, that he would do everything in his power to ensure that their lives were peaceful and uneventful, that they should never know pain or hardship, and that he would love them with all his heart.

(I know I posted this already, but it ended up on the bottom of the page so I wanted to put it up again.)

  • Breeze didn’t remember how old she was when the tortoiseshell cat first came to her.

She knew she hadn’t been eight moons old, because that had been when she’d become a to-be, and the first dream had happened when she’d been much younger than that.

She hadn’t been six moons old, because that was when her father had started teaching her and her brother Feather some hunting and fighting techniques, pointing out that it worked in the Clans and the two of them might as well get a head start.

She hadn’t been four moons old, because that was when her father had taught her and Feather how to swim, and she’d already been having the dreams for a long time by then.

No, she’d been much younger. She’d still been nursing. She couldn’t have been more than a moon or two.

She hadn’t even realized she was dreaming until suddenly there was a cat in front of her speaking to her. “Hello, little kit.”

“Hello,” Breeze said politely. Then curiosity overtook politeness. “Who are you? How did you get in the cave?”

She looked around, but she wasn’t in the Tribe’s cave. That terrified her. She’d never been out of the Cave of Rushing Water in all her short life. She was in a different cave, much smaller than the one the Tribe lived in. This one was much darker, but she could see a tall spire of rock in the center. Other than that the cave was empty. “W-where am I? Who are you?”

The cat laughed. Her fur was tortoiseshell pattern, with white patches. Her eyes were amber, but not a warm kind amber like Stormfur’s; they were a sharp burning amber. “No, we are not in your precious Tribe cave.” Her voice had a harsh mocking tone to it. “We are in a cave sacred to the Clans, not unlike your Cave of Pointed Stones. It’s funny, really, here of all places….What StarClan would say!” She laughed again, making Breeze shiver.

“But how did I get here?” Breeze asked, edging backward nervously.

The tortoiseshell cat didn’t answer. She tilted her head sideways, looking at Breeze consideringly. “So you are Breezekit…I’m sorry, Breeze That Rustles The Leaves.”

Breeze liked her name. It was pretty. But the way this cat said it, it didn’t sound pretty at all.

“You have the look of him,” the cat mused, her eyes darkening in a look Breeze had never seen before but that made her shiver. “You have the same color fur. But the rest of of you, your eyes, your face….You look like your father’s sister. And their mother. Oh, I remember when she died, when they both did….But they didn’t look a bit like him like you do, you know.” She hissed, her face twisted.

Breeze had no idea what this cat was talking about, but she didn’t like it. “I want to go home now, please,” she mewed nervously.

“Oh, you do, do you?” the tortoiseshell cat asked. She purred. “See you soon, Breeze That Rustles The Leaves.” She smiled suddenly, but the smile looked terrifying.

    And then Breeze woke up.
