Yawning, I step out of my den and onto the Tall-Ledge. Sunlight shines through the tall redwoods that surround the camp. Peering through the trees, I can see the moorland and river, and the mountains that ring our valley territory. Forest, moor, and river… anycat would feel at home here.
As I lounge on the Tall-Ledge, I watch the camp wake up. Cheetahspark, early to rise as ever, is eating a sparrow that was caught the day before. My apprentice, Snowpaw, bounds out of the apprentices’ den, noisy and bouncy as ever. Her father (my mate) Cloudstrike pokes his head out of the warriors’ den at the noise, then comes out to join her. Snowpaw runs a lap around the camp, shouting random words and phrases into the morning.
“Butterfly sparkles! Winnow! Blue jay! Falcon! Extravegant! Flactulence!”
“What-tulence?” Mintpaw pads out of the apprentices’ den. “Snowpaw, are those even words? Seriously, butterfly sparkles?”
“Yes! And it’s flactulence. It means FARTS!” Snowpaw exclaims. Then she starts laughing, because for some reason no apprentice can ever say ‘farts’ without at least a giggle.
“What does a cat have to do to get some sleep around here?” Silvertooth complains from the elders’ den. Snowpaw rolls her eyes.
“Sorry Silvertooth,” she mutters.
Just then, I see Mintpaw’s mentor Robinsky enter the clearing. “Robinsky, come here a moment.” When she’s near the Tall-Ledge, I leap down. “I was thinking we start Snowpaw and Mintpaw on battle training. We might even be able to convince Darkpaw to show them a couple of moves.” I blink at Robinsky, waiting for her answer.
Wrenkit woke up and looked around the den. Her mother and sisters were sleeping nearby in another nest. Wrenkit had always thought that the nest she had once shared with her family was always cramped,so she had asked Snowshade if she could have a nest of her own. Her mother had agreed. Wrenkit’s new nest seemed bigger,even though it wasn’t. There were some piles of herbs beside her nest. Asterstorm had given her some herbs to learn. Once she had learned every herb that she had,Wrenkit would give them back and Asterstorm would give her some more. She also kept some in the nursery because Wrenkit,Asterstorm,or Ebonyrain could quickly grab herbs to help queens or kits. Wrenkit quickly studied an herb that Asterstorm had said was celandine. Then she stretched and raced to the fresh-kill pile. “Hey Wrenkit!” Wrenkit turned to see Cheetahspark waving her over. “Come share this sparrow!” Wrenkit nodded and bounded over.

“That sounds great,” mewed Robinsky. “I’ll show them a few moves. It wouldn’t hurt for Darkpaw to review a couple of battle moves.” The she-cat tilted her head thoughtfully. “The thing is… can Pebblefrost come with me too? It wouldn’t hurt to have his help.” ‘And it would be nice to get to know him better…‘thought Robinsky. She had begun to admire the tom for the way he worked with his apprentice, even though Darkpaw could get wild at times.

Bluestar yawned and stretched, walking out onto the StoneLedge that jutted out of the cliff just under her den. Peering out over the camp, she saw the clan waking up as the sun crested the hills at the edge of the forest. Cloudstrike and Snowpaw were talking by the fresh-kill pile, no doubt waiting for Moonbreeze to order the patrols for the day. Shadows shifted in the forest, and Bluestar thought she saw the figure of another cat, but it was gone in moments. Probably a trick of the light. As more cats entered the clearing, Bluestar settled down on the rock. Another ordinary day in FireClan…
Wrenkit jerked her head up. Her brown fur prickled with unease. She shook herself and darted out of the nursery. Bluestar was standing on the StoneLedge. Wrenkit picked her way up. “Bluestar!”
“Hello, Wrenkit,” Bluestar said. “What’s up?”
Wrenkit shook herself. “I–I had a vision. I was in a forest,and then a tree fell above me. It almost hit me,but suddenly a fire sparked up and sheilded me. Then,there was a–a–a . . . “Wrenkit trailed off and shuddered. “There was a leaf storm. It started to destroy the fire.” Wrenkit panted.
“Goodness. That’s violent.” Bluestar frowned. “Do you think the fire represents FireClan? The leaf storm… is there another clan being formed? And what was the tree…” She trailed off. “Come on, we’re going to talk to the medicine cat.”
Foxtail pricked her ears as Wrenkit stuttered in a frantic voice about something to Bluestar
“…..there was a leaf storm. It started to destroy the fire.” Wrenkit panted as she finished her story.
Foxtail squinted her eyes in confusion and padded over.
“Wait, what? How can leaves destroy a fire? Wouldn’t they get burned?” She asked, tilting her head. Foxtail gave a respectful nod to Bluestar afterwards.
As a senior warrior she was allowed to listen in to conversations between the Clan leader, the deputy, and the medicine cat. The elders are also at times included as well.

“Ah, hello Foxtail,” Bluestar said, nodding back. “Come with us. Maybe you can help decipher this dream Wrenkit’s had.”
Foxtail nodded and sat down to lick her chest fur. “Maybe it’s about those mange-pelted LeafClan cats. Do you think they’re going to invade? Should we start sending out more patrols to check our borders just in case?”
LeafClan is FireClan’s rival, right? =)
“Good idea. Can you take a patrol out?” Bluestar asked.
