  • This is the main role-playing page for the Lumen Trials!

You look up, mouth falling open in shock as the notes begin to fall. They block out the sky, the sun, and fill everything with a flutter of white.
Around you, everyone pauses in their work, and you reach forwards to pick one up off the ground.

Do you remember me? The paper reads, scrolled in golden text.
Do you remember the golden prince?
The shining sun in an otherwise dark sky?
Do you know why I was cast out?
Because I was a better ruler than my father.
Do you know that I did not die?
Because even he can not finish me that easily.
    Do you want change?
    Do you want power?
    I can help you.
    If you help me.
    It’s high time that Fabula
    Had a new king.

Cut your finger, and spread the blood on this paper. You will not be able to return once you have joined me, so think this through.

    -Prince Lumen

You stare at the paper, wondering if it could possibly be true. Prince Lumen, alive?
This is what you’ve been waiting for. This is what you need.
Without wasting any more time, you draw your dagger and nick yourself with the blade, pressing your bleeding finger against the paper. With a rush of air, a portal opens in front of you. With a glance over your shoulder, you step through.
“Took you long enough,” an unimpressed voice drawls as you take in your surroundings. The long, dark tunnel is lined with coffins, some of them open and some closed. “Well, pick one,” the voice says, sounding a little irritated. Shivering, you pick an open coffin and lay down.

“Welcome to the dreamscape!” a cheerful voice calls. You have found yourself in a strange place, very strange indeed. The horizon stretches on forever, and everything is a bright pink that hurts your eyes to look at.
The owner of the cheerful voice steps forward, and you turn to face him. He appears to be mostly human, but his startling green eyes reveal him to be at least partially elf.
“Really, Pacificae, couldn’t you have picked a less….painful color?” the voice from before asks. The prince is tall, even for an elf, with midnight black skin that is startling with his silver hair and eyes.
“Of course, your highness,” the other man, Pacificae, murmurs, stooping into a bow. Your surroundings darken to a gloomy grey.
“Pacificae, go prepare the first trial, please,” Prince Lumen orders the shorter man, scowling. The prince glances over at you, unimpressed. “Well, don’t just stand there staring.” He gestures at the people around you. “You might as well get to know the rest of them. But remember, you’re here to serve me, not make friends. I’ll be over here, taking notes. Try to behave yourself.”

Well, welcome to the Lumen Trials! This is the main role-play page. While we wait for everyone to get here, you can hang out and get to know the others! (You can also talk to Lumen if you want, but be careful, he’s not very friendly 😛 )

    • Jax-
Jax got up slowly to his feet, relieved that the prince’s plan involved something other than him laying in a coffin for a long time. “What an interesting place,” he murmured, glancing nervously over at the elf prince. He considered going up to him, but thought other wise. Lumen didn’t look like he was in the mood to talk, and Jax wasn’t sure what one was supposed to say to a fallen prince anyway.

    Bellatrix-

Bellatrix looked around cautiously at their surroundings. 𝘐 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦, they realized with a slight frown. Bellatrix pulled out one of their daggers and polished it, looking at their reflection through the shiny metal. Their deep purple gaze stared back at them. Quickly getting bored, they pocketed the dagger and decided to explore some of the caves.

    • Klio-

Klio looked around cautiously, wondering if the gang had somehow followed him. After he had made sure they had not, Klio got out his javelin and looked around. After a while, Klio sat down on the edge of one of the coffins, put his javelin down, and started to write in his journal.

      • ( they’re not in the place with the coffins anymore, the coffins took them to a the dreamscape, which is basically just a shared dream that they’re all having just to let you know)

        Jax-
Jax spotted a human sitting nearby, and decided he might as well get a sense of who he might end up working with. He ran a hand through his midnight blue hair, then checked to make sure his knives were still there, just in case. “Hello there,” he said pleasantly.

        • Oh, okay. Here is it again with that in mind:

          Klio-
Poked around cautiously, wondering if the any of the people there whe part of the gang that had been tormenting him. After making sure one of them where, Klio got out his javelin and began to look around.
After a while, Klio sat down on the floor and began to write in his journal about the recent events.

  • Aria –
Aria sat down on a rock, glaring suspiciously at everyone. Sucking her cut finger, she picked up a stone and drew one of her knives. She scraped the blade against the stone, hearing the satisfying sound of metal against rock. Carefully sharpening her daggers, she studied everyone around her. None of them seemed to be from Verum. She stood up, eyes flashing. She would kill anyone who dared speak to her from that place. Aria shot a dirty look at Lumen, hating him for not stopping his father sooner. She slumped back down onto the rock and continued sharpening her weapons.

    • Jax-
Jax glanced around at one of the other people. He appeared to be the oldest out of this bunch by far, which was a little concerning. Some of the Fabulans hardly looked older than teenagers. And thus far they seem to be anti-social, sulky ones as well. His gaze settled on a hybrid, who was looking at the rest of them as if she wouldn’t mind slitting their throats. However, Jax suspected that they might end up working together, depending on what Lumen wanted, so he might as well be friendly. He raised his hand in a small wave.

      • Aria –
Aria held up her second dagger and admired its sharpened blade glinting in the weak sunlight. With a sigh, she slipped it onto her back along with its twin. Then, she drew her three silver throwing knives. As she unsheathed the first one, she caught sight of an elf looking at her. Aria glared at him, instinctively tightening her grip on her knife. The elf waved at her, and she felt a swooping sensation in her gut. He reminded her so much of her father, it was frightening. While they looked nothing alike, this elf had the same cheeky wave, and the same twinkle in his eye. Aria’s hand traveled up her neck to her locket, and she fingered it, remembering her father’s grin and her mother’s laugh. The hybrid looked away, her eyes stinging. No. She hadn’t cried in two years. She wasn’t going to cry now. Instead, she met the elf’s gaze evenly. Then, she did something she couldn’t remember doing. She smiled. Clapping her hand over her mouth in horror, Aria glared at the elf more fiercely. “What do you want?” She snapped, her usual ominous look back on her face.

        • Jax-
Baffled, Jax tried to decode the hybrid’s behavior. She had looked almost friendly for a moment, and now she was back to being hostile. “Many thing,” Jax said with a small shrug. “At the moment, a sandwich. I’m missing my lunch break right now. In the long run, to over throw a king.” And to get his daughter back, but that wasn’t the kind of thing he brought up around strangers.

          • Aria –
Aria eyed the elf, a little bemused. Had he had some sort of… brain injury? “Right,” she muttered, putting away her first knife and drawing a second. She scraped it against the stone, savoring the sound of silver grinding against rock. “So what do you want with me?” Aria put her knife away and met the elf’s blue gaze with her own compelling blue. His eyes were a shade darker than hers. She looked away and drew her third and final knife. “I never got your name,” she said smoothly.

            • Jax-
“Jax,” he said cheerfully, glancing at her knifes. He was keeping track of how many she had, just in case. “And I figured I might get to know some of the folks here, since we might have to work together later on the whole king killing thing. What’s your name?”

              • Aria –
“Jax,” Aria repeated, slipping her knives away into her cloak. “I see.” Her eyes sparked with interest. “I’m Holly,” she said, getting to her feet. It was better to use her alias. She couldn’t trust anyone here except herself and her daggers. “Why are you helping this rundown prince?”

  • Merlin-

Merlin waited nervously, drawing swirls in the ground with the toe of his boot. He didn’t really feel like he wanted to meet any of the other people, if he did they would probably ask about his past and be sympathetic. Sympathy. If there was one thing he couldn’t stand, it was sympathy – he’d had enough of it to last a lifetime. Actually, no, he thought, Empathy. That was worse. People trying to pretend they understood when they would never be able to. He fiddled with his scarf in his hands, the soft material helping him to relax.

  • Spring walked around, as usual, bored. Her outward appearance was calm, but in her mind, all she could think about was Kia, her brother.
I promise I’ll do anything to save you, she thought the millionth time, a promise she would keep. While walking around and generally being useless, she sat down, trying not to make anyone her enemy.

  • (Sorry for not posting here fora while, for my parents are limiting my time on BlogClan. I am currently in bed with my Ipad)

    Klio-
Klio looked over, and saw that a hybrid appeared to be talking to an elf. Klio got up, and went to talk to them, thinking that he might alas well get to know who he was working with. He recognized the elf at once, for the elf had tried to talk to him earlier, but Klio had been to busy writing. “Hello who are you?” Klio asked.

    • Jax-
Jax turned to the human, with a friendly smile. He had no quarrel with humans, unlike many elves. The few he had met had proved to be more agreeable than many elves.”Oh, hello again! I’m Jax.” He glanced over at the hybrid, who called herself ‘Holly.’ “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Holly,” he said, wondering if that was her real name. Perhaps I should have used a different name. Ah well, too late now. “Let’s just say I want to repay the king for something he did a while back,” he said, to answer her question. “Besides, back before Lumen was banished, Cael was a lovely place. I imagine Fabula would be more pleasant with him in charge.”

      • Aria –
Aria glared at the human, her hand instinctively traveling to the hilt of her dagger. Why was everyone so friendly? “I can’t say the same for you,” she muttered to Jax, pulling the hood of her cloak up, covering her blue hair. “The king took something from me,” she growled, hot anger sweeping through her. Indeed he had. Her family. Her friends. Even her cat. The king had taken everything she loved from her. She felt suddenly dizzy. She remembered that fateful day. The one that had changed her life forever. She remembered her parents’ shouts of pain, and the police officers dragging them from her home. She remembered the king’s smug grin. It appeared as if she had never moved, but within seconds, silver flashed through the air and one of her throwing knives embedded itself deep into a tree. Aria stumbled backward, nearly tripping over the rock she had been sitting on. She glared at Jax and the human, daring them to object.

        • Jax-
“Careful there,” Jax said as the hybrid stumbled, reaching out a hand to steady her then deciding to refrain from it. It seemed likely that she might cut off a couple fingers, he thought, glancing a little nervously at the knife in the tree. However, despite her unfriendly attitude, Jax suspected they shared quite a bit in common. “Hopefully, we’ll get to take a couple things back from the king,” he said with a grim smile. “That’s something I’m sure we can all agree on.”

          • Aria –
“I’ll take more than ‘a couple things’ from the king,” Aria muttered to Jax. She got to her feet swiftly and pulled her knife out from the tree, sliding it back into her cloak. She slumped back down onto her rock, waiting for the world to stop spinning. “Why are you still here?” She said to him, drawing her knees up to her chest and wrapping her arms around them.

            • Jax-
Jax frowned slightly, then shrugged. Teenagers…. He hoped that once his daughter reached this age she’d be a little less…..moody. But, if he got to see his daughter again, he’d be thrilled, moody teen or not. “If my presence bothers you, I can leave,” he said. “Have a nice day!” With a little bow, he turned away, off in search of friendlier company.

  • Ronin-

Entering the dreamscape, Ronin glanced from side to side, taking in his surroundings. “Well, they certainly went all-out with the lighting, didn’t they?” He muttered to himself, flipping his butterfly knife closed, “It looks bleaker than my future!” Sighing, he tucked his unique blade into it’s sheath, then he drew his crimson and black coat around him to conceal it. Underneath his coat, he wore scattered bits of sand green and orange armor he’d stolen from a pawn shop. It wasn’t the most effective, as many pieces were missing, but it was light, and he could use all the help he could get. Admittedly, Ronin’s colors of choice were odd, particularly for a thief, but that didn’t matter to him. He personally thought it was much better than the straight black getup many in his profession preferred, not to mention more stylish. Besides, he’d survived so far, hadn’t he?
Sitting down a short distance away from the others, Ronin drew one of his katana. It shone silver in the sunlight, as it usually did. He always took particularly good care of his weapons, he’d helped make them, after all! Holding the handle in one hand and the blade in the other, he balanced the short sword on his fingers, examining it’s edge. It’s polished steel caught the light well, and his blade shimmered in the sun’s gaze. That is, everywhere but the edge, which was sharpened to the point where the surface was not wide enough to reflect light.
Ronin smiled. His weapons were ready.

    He was ready.

    • Agave-
Agave glanced around at the people around her, drumming on the hilt of her sword restlessly. She had hoped that this would involve a lot more beheading of kings and a lot let sitting around. She had also hoped that there would be a few more humans about. Surveying the crowd, she looked for someone who might make a potential ally. Even if she couldn’t find someone trustworthy, it would still be good to access weaknesses and strengths. Elves were out of the question, for certain. There were probably some decent ones, but there were also plenty of slave owners and murderers. She hadn’t met many hybrids, but she would rather talk to a human. With a sigh, she rose to her feet, selecting one of the three other humans randomly. “Hello,” she said to the man sitting on the ground, a little warily.

      • Ronin-

Hearing footsteps coming towards him, Ronin glanced up to find a human approaching. He slid his katana back into the X shaped sheath on his back in a non threatening gesture. Had they been a hybrid, he would have kept it out, just in case.
Had they been an elf, he might have drawn the second one.
“Hello!” He stood, noting the scars on the other human’s arms, as well as the poor condition of their weapon. They don’t seem like a particularly honest person. That’s two things we in common!“Nice sword. Who’d you steal it from?”

        • Agave-
Agave tightened her grip on the hilt of her sword, frowning. “I didn’t steal it,” she said slowly, struggling to keep her voice civil. “It was a gift from one of my siblings.” She scowled, then added, “If you must know, I believe they got it from the dead body of one of slave owners. But I don’t consider that stealing.” She noticed Ronin glancing at the scars her arms, and she folded them across her chest. Some of the other slaves had worn long sleeves when they weren’t working to hide the scars, but Agave never did. There was no point in pretending that they weren’t there.

  • Spring, while looking around on the rock she was sitting on, saw that most of the people here were either thief’s, or assassins.
Aren’t we all in the city? Spring thought guiltily. She closed her eyes for a long moment, and thought about her brother. How he was brave and bold and kind to those who deserved it, but still wasn’t a pushover all at the same time. He was everything that Spring wasn’t, and he was still more. Facing the wall, she hid her face, trying desperately not to seem weak, but knowing that she already was, without Kia.

    • Jax-
Walking away from ‘Holly’, he looked around for someone who might be friendlier. They all looked rather unfriendly, which was unfortunate. He didn’t trust any of them half as far as he could throw them, but why did that have to mean that he could find someone to have a civil conversation with? He caught sight of a hybrid nearby, and decided to have another shot at making an ally. “Good afternoon!” he called out cheerfully, then paused. “Or is it evening by now?” he frowned, peering up at at the smog gray sky of the dreamscape.

          • “ Cael “ She said, starting to think about Kia again.
I need to stop! She thought furiously. Her green-blue eyes started to turn more green than blue as she glared.
Calm down, calm down, she said to herself in her head desperately.
“ Sorry. “ She said to Jax, her eyes calmer,” Just thinkin about someone.”

            • Jax-
“Ah, Cael as well?” Jax replied, scratching at his chin. “I’ve spent the last two years there, although it’s not exactly my favorite place.” He couldn’t help but wonder who she was thinking about, but he decided not to ask. They all had their secrets.

              • Spring and Jax paused as an awkward silence filled in.
Breaking it, She said,” Yeah, me and my brother, Kia live, I mean, lived there. Before…”
                She trailed off awkwardly.
Pictures of Kia filled her mind, of him laughing and crying. She remembered the time when Jewel was killed, and how she was too much of a coward to fight and again when Kia was, kidnapped…
She hid her face again, from Jax, saying,” I sorry, it’s just…”
She didn’t have the words to finish.

  • Will-

Hanging away from the others, Will was lost in thought. He was looking for one thing–Elyanna. He had loved her, he still did. He wanted her; he’d waited nearly twelve years to see her again. And now he had a chance to be with her.

He walked around aimlessly, not paying attention to where he was going.

      • Aria –
Aria watched Jax walk away, then turned her attention to the human. “Ah, lay off him, would you?” She muttered, examining the human he had yelled at. “You’re disrupting my peace.” Interest sparked in her eyes for a second, before disappearing. “Besides, this poor thing looks like he doesn’t quite know what he’s doing here.” She smiled coldly, resting her chin on her hand. “What’s your name?”

      • Will-
“Sorry. I didn’t mean to bump into you.” Will hoped he sounded as genuine as he felt. Immediately his gaze fell onto the eyes of the hybrid girl’s. Trying his best to avoid the cold gleam in this girl’s eyes, he said, “I’m Will. You?”

        • Aria –
Aria narrowed her eyes, thoughts whirling. Will seemed lost, like he was looking for something. Her gaze swept over him, taking in every detail and doing her best to memorize them. Aria wondered if she should tell him her real name, then decided against it. “I’m Holly,” she said finally. “Why are you helping the prince?” The hybrid gestured to Prince Lumen, who was looking as though he had swallowed a lemon. She cracked a grin at the sight, before turning back to Will.

  • The lighting of the dreamscape suddenly flickers, switching between the dull grey and pitch black. The ground shudders, but you can’t feel it. It feels almost as if you are truly in a dream, like nothing’s quite real. Glancing around you, all of the details seem fuzzy. “Stupid mind walker,” Lumen mutters under his breath, rising to his feet.
“Pacificae!” Lumen shouts at the sky, voice sounding odd and a little distorted, “I thought you said you could handle the changes I asked for!”
“Sorry, your highness,” Pacificae replies, his voice seeming to come from everywhere, “I’ve never adjusted a dream scape while there were so many people in it.” After a moment, everything comes back into focus. You can feel the ground again, and it feels much closer to real life than it did a moment before. Another moment later, and the lighting returns, this time in the original hot pink again.
“Is that better, sir?” Pacificae asks hesitantly, appearing from out of no where. Lumen scowls, gesturing angrily at the sky.
“It’s pink again,” he mutters moodily, narrowing his eyes against the bright color. You have nothing against pink, but you have to agree that it’s a little bright.
“Sorry!” Pacifcae whimpers, turning a shade that matches the sky. “I don’t know why it keeps doing that….” The hybrid frowns, concentrating, and the sky settles down into a pleasant silvery color that’s much nicer to look at than the dull gray and less painful than the hot pink. You also can’t help but notice that it’s a very similar color to the shade of Lumen’s eyes.
“Thank you, Pacificae,” Lumen replies, voice softening a little as if he realized he was being a little harsh. “I’m sure you’ll get the job done well enough.”
Although it didn’t sound like the most impressive compliment to you, Pacificae’s face turns a darker shade of pink. He stoops into a hasty bow, then disappears again.
“We’ll get started soon,” Lumen says, turning to look at the group staring at him. “Pacificae and I have a little competition prepared for you. I’ll tell you the details later.”

(Assuming all goes as planned, I should have the next bit up sometime tomorrow!)

    • Merlin-

Merlin shuddered. A competition didn’t sound good. Maybe he should have tried to talk to some of the other people, allies would have been useful in a competition. Sighing, he wondered if helping Lumen had been such a good idea after all. Oh yeah, he reminded himself, It’s not like I have anywhere else to go. Maybe he could make some allies before the competition started? He fiddled with his scarf, he soft material soothing him. Sparrow, I hope you would be proud of me.

    • Ronin-

A challenge? Could be fun, depending on what it is. Ronin turned back to Agave, folding his arms to mirror her. “Fair enough. I assume you aren’t from Cael, then, and by extension, have never heard of anyone named Soul Archer. They’re an elf. Wear lots of green. Never miss a shot. She’s a bit of an urban legend and almost everyone hates her. Does any of that sound familiar?” He asked, tapping his foot nervously.

      • Agave-
“No,” Agave replied with a small shrug. “We don’t get to much gossip from Cael in Caligo, especially not after Lumen was exiled. Why?” she added, with a hint of sarcasm, “Are they a friend of yours?” She drummed her fingers impatiently on the hilt of her sword, glad that they were about to get started soon. After all, she was here to do more than chat.

      Bellatrix-

After they came out of a nearby cave, Bellatrix gave the other people in the setting a quick glance, noting things that either made them a formidable or weak ally. Heaving a sigh they decided that it would be better to have allies than have none. They rested their hand on their dagger for confidence and decided to walk up to someone. Deciding randomly, Bellatrix approached [insert person]. “Um, hi..” they said in a low voice.
