  • Here we go!!!

Lumen rises gracefully to his feet, turning to face the group gathered before him.
“First of all, I’d like to thank you for your assistance,” he says with a small bow. “I hope that this rebellion ends up being profitable for us all. Second of all, it is time for the competition to begin. There will be no losers, per se, but there will certainly be winners. I can not overthrow the king alone, and I can not rule a kingdom alone. I will be looking to see which of you are the strongest, the smartest, and who would make the best leaders. All of you will serve beside me, but the competition will decide how much power I will give you. These trials will happen in the dreamscape, so remember, none of it is actually real. If you die, you will have to sit out for the rest of that given trial, but your death can be reversed with a simple snap of Pacificae’s fingers. However,” he adds with a grim smile, “it will feel very real.”

“This trial is going to be on focusing on combat and physical skills. The first round will be simply for practice, and not worth any points in the competition. The only person who’s been tested in the dreamscape is me, and I am a powerful mage, so forgive me if it is too hard or too easy this first round.” He smiles, and claps his hands. “Well, Pacificae, let’s see how they do!”
The world begins to warp, everything growing fuzzy around you. With a dizzying sensation of falling, you loose track of the seconds and your thoughts blur into sleepy mumbles as Pacificae shifts the dreamscape.

Here is the link to the first trial!

As Lumen said, be patient with the stats and stuff, this first round might be a little wonky as I try to figure out what works. The combat will work similar to how Maple’s tests do combat, for those of you who are in it as well. You say your charecter’s attack, and I will tell you the result.
Example: Bob lunged at the table, swinging his sword down at one of it’s legs.
Me: The table doges out of Bob’s reach, and tries to trip him. Bob just barely springs out of the way.
The placements for the competition will be based on an average of how many damage points you deal, and how many you receive from the opponent. I will also take into consideration how many attacks you attempt, so don’t worry if you’re not going to be super active. (also, if a trial occurs without you posting in it, I will not count it against your character). Also, be nice about the competition please 🙂 even if your character does poorly, there’s still fun stuff for everyone. The placing will help determine different roles your character will get to play later on, but everyone will have a role! If this gets too competitive/people get upset, I will have to come up with something else. I think this will be really fun if I can get it to work right!

    Well, go have fun!!

  • Merlin-

Merlin looked around nervously. Being ranked at the top from the first trial didn’t make him feel great- he was probably going to be singled out as a target by the other competitors now. His hand tightened on his bow and his other hand gripped his sheath of arrows, they made him feel better and like he was safe, well as safe as he could be.

    • Jax-
Jax glanced around at the peaceful meadow, impressed by Pacificae’s skills. If he didn’t know it was fake, he would never have guessed. Looking around, he spotted the nervous looking fellow that had won the competition. Jax was a little irritated that he hadn’t placed, but there would be other chances. Perhaps it would be wise to make an alliance with the leading competitor, just in case. “Hello there!” he called cheerfully, tucking his throwing knives back into the pockets of his jacket. “Congrats on the trial win, by the way.”

    • Aria –
Aria stomped back to her rock, muttering angrily. She wasn’t totally bothered by the ranks; she didn’t care for Lumen’s approval, but it had hurt her pride slightly. Wincing slightly as she stretched her shoulder that had been wounded, not once, but twice. Pacificae had done a decent enough job healing them all, but her shoulder remained stiff and sore. Aria sat back down, drawing her knees up to her chest. Then, a hybrid caught her eye. Ah. So this is our winner. She smirked as she saw his tight grip on his bow and arrow. “Hey!” She called, staring at him pityingly. “Congratulations,” she sneered, a mocking smile on her face.

      • Jax
Jax glanced over at ‘Holly’, frowning at the mocking tone in her voice. He saw no way in which being rude could benefit her, but perhaps it was another teenager thing. “Hello again,” he said to ‘Holly’, with a polite nod. “Did you enjoy the trial? I’ve never seen a spider that shocking of a color.”

        • Merlin-

“Thanks,” he said to the first person (Jax), slightly surprised, he seemed pretty genuine and Merlin wasn’t sure if that was a good thing. He turned to the second person (Aria), “Thank you.” he spoke, not missing the fakeness of her congratulations. “Do you two know each other?” he asked warily, looking back and forth between the two. They seemed like they did and self consciously, his fingers felt for the arrows in his sheath, gripping one tightly. Was this a trick? he wondered to himself. Well if it was he was prepared and wasn’t going to go down without a fight.

          • (Oof, forgot this part :P)

            Aria’s New Stats:

            Aria –
“We’ve met,” Aria said dismissively, acknowledging the hybrid’s question. She rolled her midnight blue eyes as she noticed his tight grip on his weapons. “Relax,” she drawled, shifting into a more comfortable position. “We’re not going to hurt you. At least, not yet,” she added in an undertone. “Where are you from?”

            • Merlin-

Merlin reluctantly dropped his grip on his arrows – he wasn’t going to let her see that he was scared. He kept his hand on his bow, though, as a small act of defiance. “Pontus.” he muttered. He didn’t want to give much away about himself but she was more likely to attack him if he said nothing. “Where are you from?” he asked, raising his voice.

              • Jax-
Jax glanced over at ‘Holly’, disproving of her lack of manners. They would probably have to work together to get Lumen on the thrown, meaning it would be better if they could all get along. “I generally try to avoid getting myself turned into a pin cushion,” he said to Merlin, gesturing towards his bow with a friendly smile, noticing that the younger man still seemed a little nervous and trying to put him at ease. I’m from Cael,” Jax answered without missing a beat, even though that wasn’t necessarily the full truth. He spun a bit of his words magic into the statement, and the words slid out smoothly and confidently.

                • Merlin-

“You don’t look like you’d make a very good pin cushion.” he said rather flatly, missing the joke completely. “Ah Cael,” he continued, “Was it nice there?” He asked the question with no hint of emotion in his voice, completely monotone. He dropped his hand from his bow, this guy didn’t look like he would harm him.

                • Jax-
“No, I don’t think I would,” Jax agreed with a small smile. “Well, it was nice in Cael when Lumen was in charge,” Jax said with a small shrug. “Nice folks, an actual economy, good food. Now, it’s not exactly what I’d call an ideal vacation spot. A bit too many assassins and murderers for my taste, but it’s better than the king’s dungeons. “

                • Merlin-
“Yes, that sounds nice.” he agreed, “Assassins and murders could be useful if they were on your side though. I generally don’t trust people so I don’t think I would have liked it there.” He paused a moment before adding, “What’s your name? I’m Merlin.” the guy would already know his name anyway from the chalkboard rankings.

                • Jax-
“I’m Jax,” he said, with a small bow. He glanced at ‘Holly’, waiting for her to introduce herself as well. “It’s nice to meet you,” he added with a cheerful smile.

                • Merlin-

Merlin frowned, why was this guy so cheerful? Surely there had to be some kind of deception and plans behind his friendliness? “Nice to meet you too.” he replied, a puzzled tone to his voice.

                • Aria –
Aria shifted uncomfortably. How would these two goody two-shoes react when they found out that there was a thief and assassin within a ten feet radius of them. “I’m A- I mean, Holly,” she amended hastily. “Unfortunately, I cannot say the same. Meeting you has been a most unpleasant experience.” Aria smiled coldly at the two of them. “I certainly hope you don’t want me as an ally. I work alone. The only thing you can trust is yourself. People are too unreliable.” She glared at Jax. “Especially elves.”

                • Merlin-

Merlin glowered at her. “Holly, you say.” he spoke frostily, “Well you’re certainly as prickly as a holly bush.” His hand gripped his sheath tightly as his defensiveness crept up. “Working alone is all too nice,” he continued, “But don’t expect me to come and help you when you get into trouble.” He gave her a mock bow and stepped away.

                • Jax-
“Hmm,” Jax murmured, frowning at ‘Holly’. “I don’t believe not trusting someone and being able to maintain a pleasant conversation with them are mutually exclusive.” He decided not to respond to her remark about elves, mostly due to the fact that he completely agreed with her. “Besides,” he added with a small smile, “I highly doubt we’re going to be able to take down a king without some collaboration. As much as you seem to dislike it, we’re all on the same team here.”

                • Aria –
“Good riddance!” Aria called after Merlin’s retreating form. She returned her attention to Jax. “Well, I’m sorry if I don’t meet your expectations,” she snapped. “I don’t care if you don’t like me. This is who I am, and I’m not about to change.” The hybrid scowled at him, her blue eyes flashing, daring him to contradict her.

                • Merlin-

Merlin paused one last time to scowl at Holly and stormed off. He didn’t care about making allies anymore. How could I have been so stupid? he thought, Of course other people are just a nuisance. I’m not sure how I forgot that. He looked back at Jax and Holly one last time, feeling slightly regretful before turning his back on them and sitting down on a rock.

                • Jax-
“Have a nice day!” Jax called, waving after Merlin. He was a little irritated that his attempt to make an ally had been interrupted by Holly’s rude behavior. He turned back to Holly, studying her intently. “That’s a shame,” he said, with a small frown. “It doesn’t sound like a particularly pleasant life style to me. Too lonely.” He shrugged, not voicing all of the thoughts he was thinking. He couldn’t help but wonder what she had lost to make her so unfriendly, but it wasn’t really his business. “Well, I hope it works out for you. My apologies that you have gone through the unpleasant experience of meeting me twice.” With a little bow, he turned away, looking for someone more cheerful to talk to.

                • Merlin-

Merlin thought for a moment and got up from his rock. “Hey!” he yelled after Jax and Holly, “Jax’s right. We are all on the same boat here. Imagine if there’s a teamwork competition, we’ll all be trashed if we can’t work together.” He slowed down a little before continuing, “So, you both seem like pretty decent fighters. Shall we stick together?” He knew there wasn’t much hope of Holly agreeing, but part of him hoped that Jax would.

                • Jax-
“Sure,” Jax replied, grinning. Allies were always nice to have. “Although,” he added, “I think we should make it clear up front what our policy on the competition is so we don’t end up arguing later on if someone wins and the others do poorly.” He glanced over at Holly, with a hopeful smile. “Will you be joining us?” he asked, although he suspect he knew the answer.

                • Aria –
Aria narrowed her eyes. They both seemed like okay fighters, and they weren’t stupid either. It might be nice to have someone to distract enemies. Stealth had always been Aria’s strong suit. Plus, a strong fighting force might be intimidating. As the pondered it over, Aria pushed away a pang of loneliness. You’re not doing this for company. You’ve survived alone for five years now, there’s no reason you shouldn’t now, she chided herself. “All right, fine,” Aria snapped finally. “But don’t expect me to be all buddy-buddy with you.”

                • Merlin-

Merlin looked over at Holly, surprised. He hadn’t expected her to agree to team up, maybe he had misjudged her? “Competition policy?” he asked Jax, confused, “Well I don’t really know…” He ran a finger over the edge of his bow, “I guess we would protect each other and fight together on teamwork challenges, but for the one-person challenges, I’m not sure.”

                • Jax-
“Happy to have you on board!” Jax said to Holly, then turned back to Merlin. “Yes, we should definitely work together on team work challenges. Maybe for individual ones it’s every man/woman for themself?” he shrugged. “It doesn’t matter too much to me. It would be nice to do well in the competitions, but as long as I get to help kill a king I’m satisfied.”

                • Merlin-

“Yeah that works.” he agreed. Why does Jax want to kill the king? he wondered to himself. He had joined because he felt sympathy for Lumen, not anger at the king. “What would be our teamwork strategy?” he asked, “Like a formation.”

                • Aria –
Aria snorted. “Forget formations. The only thing this alliance means is I won’t hurt you, and you’re going to help me kill the king.” She smiled slightly. “That is, if I’m not betrayed.” The smile disappeared as quickly as it had appeared. The hybrid leaned toward Jax and Merlin, her eyes blue slits and her hand gripping the hilt of one of her silver knives. “If either one of you turn out to be a traitor, I will make both of your lives pretty miserable. And I assure you, that is not an idle threat.”

                • Jax-
“That’s not much of an alliance,” Jax pointed out with a small smile. “We’re all trying to over throw the king regardless, and I don’t think Lumen would approve of any of us killing each other.” He turned to Merlin, thinking. “Well, we all seem to favor speed and accuracy over strength in our fighting styles,” he mused, then paused. “Perhaps before we get this whole alliance thing going, I should clear something up,” Jax murmured, with a slightly guilty smile. “I was not entirely honest about my state of origin, since it’s not something I’m proud of, but if we’re going to be allies I should probably be a bit more truthful. I was actually born in Verum, but I have spent the past few years in Cael. And don’t worry, I am no friend of the king’s,” he added, hands tightening into fists for a moment before relaxing.

                • Merlin-

Merlin glared at Holly, more certain that she would turn out to be a traitor. He looked at Jax, “Why should birth and origin define us? It doesn’t matter, it matters that we’re here now.” He said the statement not in an encouraging or inspirational way, but completely flatly and without emotion as if it was a fact.

                • Jax-
“My thoughts exactly,” Jax said, smiling again, “Although sometimes people don’t always agree,” he added, glancing a little nervously over at Holly. She seemed to resent elves more than Merlin, and probably with good reason.

                • Merlin-

“Well then they’re wrong, aren’t they?” he spoke without emotion and slightly impatiently. “So.” he continued, “Are we going to practice fighting?” He fiddled with his arrows, his fingers stroking the smooth, sharp tips.

                • Jax-
“Might be a good idea,” Jax said, pulling out one of his throwing knives. “This is convenient place to practice, since Pacificae can just heal everything when we’re done.”

                • Merlin-

“Okay.” he said, before pulling out an arrow and attaching it to his bow. “See if you can dodge the arrow!” he grinned, aimed the arrow at Jax’s chest and swiftly released it, sending it towards its target.

                • Jax-
With a yelp, Jax ducked, dropping gracelessly to the floor and landing flat on his face. Grinning, he rolled into a kneeling position, lashing out with a knife at the hybrid’s knee.

                • Merlin-

Merlin froze for a second, caught unaware. He threw himself to the side, but he wasn’t quick enough to escape the knife. It left a cut to the side of his knee and he landed on his side, knocking his leg on the floor. He chuckled, grabbed the thick frame of his bow and jabbed one of the pointed ends at Jax.

    Soliya-
Soliya narrowed their eyes at the leaderboard. They hadn’t won? They reminded themself there’d be more chances, then went to a rock and sat on it, surveying the others.

    Kash-
Kash approached Mar, irritated. “I don’t know how you expect to keep this act up much longer,” he snapped at her. Soon enough, she’d be found out, and what would happen to him then? He’d be booted, most likely, and be ridiculed back home – or, worse, executed. He felt his stomach start churning.

    Mar-
“Kash, you must stop saying those ridiculous things,” she said, a faint irritation in her words.
I do not know what Kash is talking about, I do not know what Kash is talking about, she dutifully told herself. She’d stay in this competition, no matter what it took.

    • Agave-(to Soliya)
Agave frowned, crossing his arms across his chest. He hadn’t won, but he had managed to get a point. He glanced around, searching for a human to talk to. Maybe his place on the leader board could help him make allies, and let any elves who might be planning things know that he meant business. “Hello,” he said to one of the other humans, forcing a small smile.

      • Soliya-
“Hi,” Soliya said curtly, nodding politely to the newcomer. It was lucky he wasn’t an elf, or he would’ve gotten a much frostier reaction. Handling their dagger just in case the encounter wasn’t the most friendly, they offered their name. “Soliya. You?”

        • Agave-
Glancing at the dagger, Agave drummed his fingers along the hilt of his sword. They didn’t seem particularly hostile, but that didn’t mean that they were safe either. “Agave,” he replied, “Of Caligo. Where are you from?” he asked.

          • Soliya-
“Cael,” Soliya replied. “Pleasure to meet you, Agave.” Their voice had a hint of sarcasm in it, given this elf was her rival for the Trials.

            • (Agave’s a hooman)
              Agave-
Agave paused at the sarcasm in their voice, then smirked. He wanted to win the trials, but it was good to know that his competition had the sense to acknowledge that they were rivals. After all, whoever won might have the fate of Fabula on their hands. “A pleasure to meet you as well,” he said, with a little nod. Agave paused, glancing over the elves intermingling with the hybrids and humans around them. “Wonder why they felt the need to come here,” he muttered. After all, the current system favored elves.

              • (Shoot 😛 sorry)

                Soliya-
“At least us humans are loyal to each other,” they grumbled. “Stupid elves bicker amongst themselves so much, I’m surprised one’s stayed in power for so long.”

                • Agave-
“Indeed,” Agave agreed. “Hopefully this one will do a better job,” he said, gesturing towards Lumen. “I can hardly imagine how he could do a worse job than the current king, but I’m sure he could find a way if he put his mind to it.” Agave shrugged, drumming his fingers restlessly across the hilt of his sword. He didn’t need to rest, despite what Lumen seemed to think, and he also didn’t really have time to waste on sitting around. He had signed up to overthrow a king, after all. “I wish they could get this show on the road already,” Agave grumbled.

                • Soliya-
“If he doesn’t, we can always overthrow him, too. But he does seem to be a little more competent than the others of his species.” They nodded at Agave’s other comment. “I’m antsy to sink a dagger into something’s flesh. What do you want to bet we’re being held up by sleepy elves?” They said sleepy elves mockingly, flashing a brief smile.

                • Agave-
“A lot of them might not be used to this sort of work,” Agave scoffed. “I wonder how many of this lot have spent most of their life safe and happy in Verum.” Even if they hadn’t had an easy life, that would be at least partially by choice, for an elf. Unless they offended the king, elves didn’t have much to worry about.

                • Soliya-
Soliya glared at the ground. “I wouldn’t be surprised if they joined the Trials because they just wanted more riches and power,” the spat, their voice thick with disgust. Oh, how long they’d waited to grumble about the incompetent elves.

                • Agave-
“Well, if they came here for riches, they might realize they’ve bitten off more than they can chew,” Agave said with a grim smile. “I suspect overthrowing a king will require some actual survival skills, so they’ll have to learn fast.”

                • Soliya-
Soliya snorted. “For as much education as they’ve had, I doubt they know a drop of information that actually matters.” They turned their harsh gaze to a smiling elf looking like she was above it all. “See? A prime example,” they grumbled. “Probably got taught a bunch of propaganda. Looks like she thinks she’s better than everyone else.”

                  Mar-
Mar noticed a human glaring at her. “Hi!” she said cheerfully, waving with a smile.

                • Agave-
“She definitely does,” Agave grumbled, the cheery smile on the human’s face making him want to slap her. Figuring Lumen would frown upon such actions, he merly scowled and looked away at Mar’s greeting.

                • Mar-
Mar, oblivious to the sulking humans, started over. “What are your names?” she said, cheerfully.

                  Soliya-
Fury blazed in Soliya’s blood as they glared at the stupid elf. The image of everything they hated. They grabbed their dagger, gripping it tightly so they didn’t do anything stupid, like plunge it into the elf’s purple flesh.
“Why are you even here?” they spat. “Go home to Verum. Where you belong. Laugh at the slaving humans some more, while you cradle your bags of coins.” They spat on the ground near her, then stormed away.

                • Agave-
Agave scowled, crossing his arms across his chest. “Why do you want to know?” he asked gruffly, eyeing the human warily. Normally, he’d react exactly how Soliya had, maybe even more aggressively, but if the elf was here it said something for her character. Even if she’s just here for riches, she can’t be too buddy buddy with the government. She seemed a bit too cheerful to be a rebel, but maybe he’d give her a minuscule chance to prove herself worth his time.

                • Mar-
Mar watched, alarmed, as the human’s companion stormed off. Why did the humans hate the elves so much? Shrugging to herself, she said to the other human, “Well, it’s always nice to have allies. But that’s okay if you don’t want to share your name. I’m Mar.” She smiled at him.

                • Agave-
Agave studied the elf, scowling. She looked well fed, without scars. That ruled out Cael for her home. Her skin lacked the tan that he’d seen on travelers from Pontus, although she was purple so it was hard to tell. And no slave owner from Caligo would talk to a slave, he thought, with a stab of disgust. That left Verum. “I don’t generally make alliances with elves,” he told her, drumming his fingers along the scars on his arms.

                • Mar-
Mar looked at him, taken aback. “Why not?” she asked, trying to remain polite. Why did the humans seem to hate her so much?

                  Soliya-
Soliya watched the conversation from a corner, gripping her dagger. Stupid elf. Stupid, stupid elf.

                • Agave-
Fighting down the very strong urge to slap the idiot across the face, Agave glanced over at Soliya. How was this elf so stupid? “Do you ever think about where the fuel that heats your snug little home comes from?” he snarled, his hands tightening into fists. “It comes from Caligo, where humans waste their lives away mining in harsh conditions, without pay.” He glared up at her, and ran a finger along his scarred arm. “I’m from Caligo. My little sister died when she was twelve, because our ‘master’ made her mine even though the dust bothered her lungs. My older siblings were killed by slave masters. My mother died because they made us keep mining in a tunnel they knew wasn’t safe. And these scars, do you see them?” he demanded, holding up a scarred forearm, “They’re from those same elves.” Agave leaned closer to the elf, his hand closing around the hilt of his sword. “So, here’s my question for you: what is one reason why I shouldn’t slit your throat, let alone make an alliance with you?”

                • Soliya-
Soliya watched as Agave snapped at the elf. As much as they’d like to watch the human tear her to shreds, that was probably illegal. And Soliya’d bet their dagger that the human didn’t have any good reason to not get her throat slit, so she was ensuring her death.
“She’s not worth it,” they growled, glaring at the human. “I don’t think we’re allowed to kill anyone else anyway, as much as we might like to.” They pulled out their dagger. “He’s got a point. Now, it may not be hard to stay alive now, but accidents are quite common in a Trial, I suppose,” they spat, their voice dripping with venom.

                  Mar-
Mar stared at the two humans. Were conditions really that bad for them? She’d always seen Kash frustrated about it, but…
Whatever. She would help the humans when she won the Trials. For now, she had a different goal – not to get killed by Pacifae.

                • Agave-
Agave scowled, taking a deep breath and pulling away. “It wouldn’t have done anything permanent anyway,” he muttered, “but your probably right.” Agave glanced over at the elf. He wondered if she was as cruel as the other elves he had fought against, or if she was just stupid.

                • Will-
“We don’t have to argue about this, don’t we?” Will asked, walking up to Agave, Soliya, and Mar. He was with Elyanna, their hands still intertwined together. “Can’t we just get along, for once?” He turned to look at Mar. “Look at her. She’s too young to be the cause for what happened to you and your family.”

                • Agave-
“That doesn’t give her an excuse to be ignorant,” Agave replied curtly, scowling at the elf. Technically, she had contributed to the cause of Agave’s family’s deaths. After all, they were mining to warm houses in Verum. But I suppose she doesn’t seem evil, Agave admitted grudgingly to herself. Just an idiot. Maybe it wouldn’t hurt to try and see if she had some personality underneath her stupidity. “Look, I’m sorry I threatened you,” Agave muttered, trying to relax her scowl a little bit. “My name’s Agave,” she added, after a few seconds.

                • Will-
Once again, Will was faced with the cold scowl of a stranger. He forced a smile, trying to appear more calm and easygoing than he felt. “I’m Will. And this is Elyanna. What brings you here?” He hoped that being polite and courteous would make Agave more relaxed.

                • Mar-
Mar smiled, a bit cautiously, at the human. “It’s alright. I never really knew … that things were so bad for you.” She felt a small stab of pity in her heart, but pushed it away.

                • Agave-
Agave glanced at the human, frowning slightly. She was struggling to see how the elf could be so oblivious, but perhaps living in Verum had kept Mars sheltered. “I got tired of being a slave,” she said to Will, with a small shrug. “What about you?” she asked as an after thought.

                • Elyanna-
Despite it not being for her, Elyanna answered Agave’s question. “I’ve spent most of my life trying to provide for people. My family, my neighbors, my friends. I just want to sleep at night knowing that the people I care about are safe.”

                • Soliya-
Soliya felt themselves tense as they saw the hybrid. Seeing a creature related to an elf made their blood feel like it was a live wire.

                • Agave-
Agave fought back a burst of laughter, a small smirk curling onto his face. He hadn’t exactly been worried about his safety, but the hybrid seemed harmless enough. “Agave,” he replied briskly.

                • Soliya-
“Soliya,” Soliya responded. Don’t worry, I wasn’t afraid of you because you could hurt me. Deciding to give the hybrid a try, they glanced at her. “What brings you here?”

                • “What doesn’t?!” Star snorted, “That king! Making humans work! I can’t bear to see them suffer! What brings you here?”

                • Agave-
“I got tired of suffering,” Agave replied dryly, with a small smirk. He appreciated the fact that she at least understood the situation, unlike the stupid elf he was also talking to, but it wasn’t as if the humans couldn’t handle themselves as well.

                • “I hope Lumen will do better than his father, but you never know.” Star frowned, “Were you slaves?” She nods at Agave, “You look as if you were. And like you had a very hard time.”

    • -Kelly- (To Kash and Mar)

“Umm…” Kelly approached the bickering elves. “What are you two fighting about?” she asked. Just make friendly conversation. She told herself. Make friends, it’ll help you.

      • Mar-
“Kash here thinks I’m too weak to handle myself in the Trials. Bless his heart.” She rolled her eyes teasingly, the said, “I’m Mar, and that’s my brother. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” She beamed brightly.

        Kash-
Inwardly grumbling, he nodded to the girl who’d approached them. If Mar was going to be such a dirty liar, he wouldn’t assist her.

          • Mar-
Mar shook Kelly’s hand, pleased to have someone to talk to. “Kash?” She gestured to Kelly’s hand. “Going to shake it?”

            Kash-
What was he doing? How did he end up in an alliance with with Mar? He begrudgingly also shook her hand. It was enough Mar had dragged him into her scheme – now innocent Kelly was involved, too? His stupid sister would get them all killed.

            • -Kelly-

She smiled at Kash’s annoyed expression. “Sibling rivalry, I’m assuming?” Kelly said. Mar seems too nice. She deduced. And Kash is a little grumpy.

              • Mar-
Mar nodded, smiling. “Do you have any siblings?”

                Kash-
Sibling rivalry? She didn’t know the half of it.

                • -Kelly-

“No,” she replied simply. She tried to smile back, but it turned into a frown. She smiles too much. “What made you two decide to help Lumen?” Kelly asked.

                • Mar-
Mar, always quick to a lie, responded sweetly. “Oh, I thought it was unfair of the elves to treat the humans poorly. Hopefully there can be some sort of change in the future. You?”

                  Kash-
Kash glared at his sister, fury bubbling in his blood. How dare Mar say those things when she loved her expensive clothes? When she was all for the humans to suffer so they could live in comfort? He hadn’t thought she’d even known about poverty. Bristling with anger, he gripped the hilt of his sword and stormed away. He didn’t care what Kelly thought of him for it. He would not stand aside while Mar lied to everyone.
Read my thoughts, he willed Pacifae. Read my thoughts and know that Mar is a liar. That she has no intent of overthrowing the king…

                • -Kelly-

As Kash walked away, Kelly took a step back. That was quick. No anger behind the statement. Fury boiled in Kelly’s blood. But, don’t assume. She told herself. She ran past Mar and grabbed Kash’s arm. Her voice trembled slightly as she spoke. “I-Is she lying?”

                • Kash-
Kash flinched away from Kelly’s touch, but met her eyes. He wanted to tell her the truth, but he couldn’t bring himself to do it. He didn’t know why; he could figure that out later. “No,” he spat out, not sure why he was so angry, or why he was defending his horrible sister.

                • -Kelly-

Kelly dropped her trembling hand. “Take a nice, good look at me,” she snapped. “Do I look like an elf to you?” Stay calm. She told herself. “I can’t ally myself with someone who secretly hates me, or even wants to kill me.” She shifted uncomfortably. This is a horrible start. “Can I trust your sister or no? Can I trust you, even?” She pulled her hair in frustration. She couldn’t tell why she was getting so worked up, but she hadn’t tried to talk to elves in a long time, and it wasn’t going too great.

                • Kash-
As Kelly started talking about how she wasn’t an elf and the disadvantages of it, Kash felt a flash of sympathy. “Why do things have to be the way they are?” he burst out, gritting his teeth in anger. “The elves are rich, and the rest are poor and starving!” He sighed, feeling defeat take over the anger. What was the point, even? Overthrowing this king would undoubtedly lead to another leader just as bad.
“Honestly, I don’t know if you can trust Mar,” he began. “But I know she didn’t want to be here.” He decided to leave out how she’d gotten here. “I don’t know if now she’s changed her mind, or if she’s planning on killing us all, or what. But I wouldn’t trust her. As for me, I probably seem like I have anger issues. But I do want to take down the king.”

                • -Kelly-

Kelly nodded, understanding. “I can deal with anger issues, believe me.” She smiled. “Thank you. You see, I believe that you meant that. because of how angry you seem.” She sighed and pulled her hair behind her ear. “Taking down the king is all I have at this point.”

                • Kash-
Kash just nodded. “Taking down the king is all I have, too. Maybe we’ll finally be able to live in a world where humans and elves don’t hate each other.”

                • -Kelly-

“I’d like that,” Kelly said softly, “I’d really like that.” Her eyes became glazed as she thought of a distant memory. One where she lay on her belly under a bed, covering her ears and silently begging for it to all stop. “I’d like that,” she repeated, almost to herself.

                • Kash-
Kash thought of what this human’s life must’ve been like, and it felt like there was acid in his throat. How miserable most of the humans were while he lived happily in Verum, riches at his fingertips.
He sat down, burying his head in his hands. It was all so unfair, and he couldn’t do anything about it.
Except he could. Now. He could take down the king.
And that was what he’d do.

                • -Kelly-

Kelly frowned. She sat down beside Kash and lifted a hand to place on his shoulder, but she hesitated. I hardly know this guy, he might not like physical contact. She took in a deep breath and placed her hand on her knee. “Tell me about your life,” she asked, “please.” She rolled her shoulders back, trying to relax. “I need to know what to look forward to when this is all over.”

                • Kash-
Kash frowned as he thought of his former life. “Well, there’s lots of riches. You get expensive clothes, and lessons about the world and weaponary, and anything you want. Though, I assume they’ll have to change it, since I assume that money is being taken from the humans.”

                • -Kelly-

“Expensive clothes?” She pretended to gag. “Like dresses?” Kelly rolled her eyes. “I much prefer my hoodie, thanks.” She groaned. “Money is something I never had much of, I’d for once just like a gourmet meal, y’know?” She laughed at her own joke, feeling awkward.

                • Kash-
Kash attempted a smile. “That’s incredibly sad, though,” he said quietly. “While you had a hoodie, we had a whole wardrobe. Sorry, I’m not trying to sound mean, but it’s true. The humans suffer so the elves can have riches.”

                • -Kelly-

Swallowing a lump in her throat, Kelly laughed. “Nah, it’s alright. I’m used to it. Besides, that’s why we’re here, isn’t it?”

    Elyanna-
The meadow was beautiful, with the warm sun and its rolling hills and colorful flowers. But Elyanna was only looking for one thing, and that was Will. Surely he had to be here. He couldn’t have changed much in ten years.

And then she spotted him. He was an adult now, taller and with darker blond hair than Elyanna had last seen him. But he was still the scrawny, kind-hearted boy whom she had saved. I’ve wanted you for ten years. And now you’re here…

    Will-
    “Elyanna?”

This wasn’t a dream. She was there. Truly, truly there. She hadn’t changed in ten years. “I’ve missed you. I’ve missed you so, so much.”

Elyanna smiled, a small smile, but a smile nonetheless. “You know why I had to leave. I had people to take care of.” She walked closer to him, taking Will’s hand, their fingers intertwining. “I’ve missed you too.”

“There’s nothing to forgive,” Will replied. “I understand.” He just wanted to be with her, now and forever.

  • Magnolia-
Magnolia looked around at her surroundings, her wrinkled hands scratching thoughtfully at her chin. “Witchery,” she muttered to herself, shaking her head. With a sigh, she pulled her mace out of her belt, scowling at the blood still stained on it. She didn’t know if cleaning it in a dream would clean it in real life, but it bothered her that it was still messy. When the papers had fallen, a government official had tried to steal hers from her. It had taken her a bit, but she had gotten it back. Pulling a cloth out of her pocket, Magnolia began to clean the stains off of her weapon.

      -Bellatrix

Bellatrix stared at the crowd of people milling around, cautious about talking to someone. They weren’t too disappointed that they didn’t make it to the leaderboard-she had more chances anyway- but they knew that if their father was still alive, he would be disappointed. Plus, Bellatrix didn’t even land a blow on Lumen at all. They unconsciously bit their lip, then noticed a frail lady cleaning her mace. Bellatrix glanced at her, then looked away, trying not to seem rude. 𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦?

      • Magnolia-
Magnolia glanced around, wondering what all of the young folks had been up to while she was chasing down the idiotic man who had thought he could stop her from going to Lumen. Most of the people in the field were hardly older than children, she thought with a frown. But then again, when she had helped overthrow a government her first time around, she had been fifteen. Magnolia noticed a young elf watching her, and straightened, slipping her mace into her belt. “Pardon me,” she called, “But could you fill me in on what I’ve missed?”

Bellatrix gave a little shrug. “You didn’t miss too much. We just fought a giant spider.” They shifted their feet. “After that, we had to fight Lumen, but it ended fairly quickly.” Bellatrix decided not to mention how they didn’t hit the prince at all.

          • Magnolia-
“Beating up a elven prince? Sounds like fun,” Magnolia said grumpily, scowling. “It’s too bad I missed that.” She glanced over at Lumen, wondering if she could convince him to let her hit him a couple times to prove her strength. Or, she wished she could go back and hit the stupid man who had stolen her paper a couple more times. She let out a soft chuckle, imagining the shocked look on his face when she had hit him in the leg with her mace. He apparently hadn’t expected an old lady to fight back.

              • Magnolia-
“I could really use a nice fight,” Magnolia muttered, shaking her head. “Can’t believe I missed out…should have stayed and hit the fellow a couple more times,” she said. She paused, realizing her words might require some explanation. “Some idiot stole my paper,” Magnolia said, shaking her head. With a mischievous grin, she patted the hilt of her mace. “I got it back.”

  • -Tia-

Tia still held on tight to her bow. Perhaps I should try to make some friends. She thought. She looked around, trying to make eye contact with someone.

          • (She’s an elf!)

            -Tia-

Tia smiled awkwardly, “Well, I promise you that I’m no killer.” She laughed nervously. “I’d love to be friends. Where are you from?”

            • “Well, I was born in Caligo, but I moved around a lot and finally settled in Pontus, where are you from? Verum I’m guessing?”

                • “It’s nothing to be ashamed of,” Star told her, “All that matters is that you will help make justice.”

                • “Yes, it is.” Star smiled, “Shall we make more allies? Or should we just stay clear of everyone else?”

                • -Tia-

She shrugged. “If you can find someone else friendly-looking, go for it!” Tia grinned widely. “I love talking with people, getting to know all their secrets, that sort of thing.”

                • “I like to meet people, but mostly I keep to myself.” Star said, “How about we go talk to those two who are holding hands. They seem nice.”

  • Will-
“I love you,” Will said to Elyanna. “I’ll always love you.”

He leaned down to kiss her. His hands clasped on her neck, their lips locked together for a few moments. Elyanna’s dark hair ruffled in the gentle breeze. As soon as their first kiss ended, they exchanged a second one, deeper and longer this time.

In these precious moments, Will had never felt greater joy.

  • (Hi, sorry for going inactive, can i still play in the trial?)
    Klio-
Klio stood in a corner, embarresed for not even trying to fight Lumen. He was so confident when he was fighting the spider, but when he realized that he needed to fight Lumen, he had freaked and ran off. “I should have stood there and ought him.” Klio muttered under his breath.

  • Look Flame did something for once 😀

“It is time for our second trial,” Lumen called, rising to his feet. “This one will not be quite as simple as the last one. You will be split into two groups, and those two groups will be competing against each other. The group that gets through with the least amount of faults will win, and everyone in that group will receive three points. Various events throughout the trial will count as a fault, and if you die that will be five faults. However, the member of each group that gets through the fastest will receive five points, so keep that in mind. Pacificae and I will each be monitoring a group and taking notes. Additional points may be given out to participants who succeed at certain things, but I won’t get too specific with that.”
He grinned, and two portals appeared in front of him. “Well? Here you are. Once again, remember, none of the injuries you get are permanent, and this is a competition.”
