Claimed
Arbulu has lost some of their best cats, especially in the deputy Green, who was the fastest tom in all of the clans. However, this clan is just as swift to move on from the past as they are on their paws, and have began to train to show of their speed and tree climbing ability. Setting up race courses and displays of tree based hunting a fighting are top of their list of to dos as well as supplying enough food for the visiting cats
“Bracken! Forest!”
A beautiful silver tabby she-cat wailed, her blue eyes misty and welling up with tears.
The brown tom-kit was shocked. Where were they taking him? He looked at his sister, Bracken. Her ginger pelt was sleek, her thick black stripes gleaming. Her eyes were two different colors, one clear blue, the other dark green. He only had a glimpse to see her before she was taken away.
Forest opened his eyes. That memory came to him nearly every day. He shook his spiky fur. He’d finally been able to remember his sister’s name.
Bracken.
It had taken him three moons to remember. And she was probably a Learner right now, and she had changed her name to one of her eye colors.
“Hey there,” a ginger-and-white tabby cat mewed. “You want to train? The race is coming up soon.”
Forest looked up to see his best friend, Snow Flame. They were four moons older than him, but they had been the first cat to befriend Forest when he’d arrived in Arbulu.
“Sure,” Forest replied. “I’d love to.”
Green –
Watching the two cats play together, however many moons they were different in age, was heart warming.
Her ears perked at the mention of the race. As Arbulu deputy, it was part of her job to aid the younger cats training. Even if they young ones did murmur about her scarred eye behind her back, calling her a scary monster when they thought she wasn’t listening. Just because she could judge distance as well as other cats, didn’t mean she was deaf.
“Do you want some tips ? I’ve been in more races then you can remember !”
She lowered her head to the younger cats level and whispered
“And I might possibly know the course for this moon… and be willing to share it with you, if you can keep a secret !”
Forest dipped his head to the Arbulu deputy. “Green.”
Snow Flame jumped up and down. “I’d love some tips!”
“And we can keep a secret,” added Forest. “We promise.”
Green –
Smiling at Forest’s respectful mew, Green crouched down in front of the two cats, getting down to their level, which was especially hard as one of them hadn’t even left the nursery yet.
“You can’t tell anyone’s else, but the course goes between the boulders, and if your racing on the ground, which you both will be, through the hollow of a tree truck, before a finally scramble through the tree stumps.”
It was a devilish course, only one cat could fit through the hollow tree at a time, and the stumps wore even the best runners out. The rocks weren’t too hard but of top of everything else it was a challenge
“Snow Flame I know you must have wanted to run the tree course, but because of how big the branch gaps are, all apprentices have to ground run. Though they have thrown in every obstacle except the river !”
She laughed, before noticing the cats eager bouncing for tips.
“Let me see, when you’re running, it may seem like you need to move your legs as quickly as possible, but the best runners take longer, more power strides. That’s how you win. And through the tree stumps, try to jump from one to the other, rather then climbing up and down. Not many cats try that but it is in the rules !”
Adjusting her haunches so she was in a starting position, Green had to turn her head a lot of the way round so her one working eye could see the other cats
“That’s how you get in the starting position, you try it !”
Snow Flame controlled their mew, though there was still a hint of excitement. “Yes, Green.”
Forest just dipped his head respectfully. “Thank you.”
Emeraldclaw
Emeraldclaw purred as she watched Green helping the going cats. Her mind began to drift slowly… She’d had another dream… She’d seen her mother and all her littermates around her. They’d been cheering her on… As if she was their hope… She knew her mother and littermates, except, of course, Brooke, her sister who had been sent to Monarchy, lived in Reis. She wondered… Could they ever be a true family? Or would they first be torn apart? Unless… Unless…
The Rebellion?
Littleleaf
Littleleaf raced through the forest, his heart pumping, his breath coming short and quick. Race, race, race… He skidded to a stop in the forest, panting. He sat down, catching his breath. He had to win when the Monarchy came, he had to. Not only would it be amazing, but he had to do well. If he didn’t… Be remembered with a shudder what had happened.
He had to do well. He had to.
Fallingleaf–
Fallingleaf raced through the treetops, leaping from branch to branch as fast as he could. The bird clamped in his jaws was big enough to feed two cats. He just hoped he could get it back to camp before the scent of fresh-kill attracted unwanted attention.
Grasswolf-
Grasswolf raced through the forest. The feeling of the wind in her fur was one of the best feelings in her opinion. She skidded to a halt as she spotted a blackbird in one of the trees. She stopped and climbed the tree. Before she could reach the blackbird one of the small twigs snapped under Grasswolf’s paw. She steadied herself scared off falling off at such a height. When she raised her head the blackbird was gone. Grasswolf nimbly leaped down from one branch to the other and returned to camp, sad that she had missed her prey.
Emeraldclaw –
Emeraldclaw looked up as Grasswolf entered the camp.
“No prey?” She asked softly. “You’ll get them next time.” She glanced around camp. “Have you been practicing for the Monarchy visit?” She muttered. “I’m nervous about it,..”
Grasswolf-
Grasswolf looked at Emarldclaw “I practiced a lot, but I’m scared it won’t be enough.” she admitted. But in her mind she felt angry at being sad that she won’t be good enough for the Monarchy’s visit. She didn’t need the acceptance of the Monarchy. “You, Emeraldclaw?” she asked shaking her head to push her feelings into the back of her mind. She glanced around the camp to see if there was any prey.
Emeraldclaw
She sighed, her tail twitching slightly, kinking above her head. “I’ve been practicing in almost every spare moment…” Emeraldclaw said softly, blinking nervously. “And I’m very frightened… Though I am a little excited about the Monarchy visit… I’ve got family there…” Her mind began to wander as she thought about her sister, Brooke. Of course, her name could be anything she wanted by now… She hoped Brooke would want to visit her. She hadn’t seen her in dreams like she had with her other littermates.
Emeraldclaw shook herself quickly. “Would you like to practice with me later today? I’m going to practice with Littleleaf, but it’s always fun to have more.”
Grasswolf-
“I’ld like to practice with you and Littleleaf.” she meowed then looked at Emaraldclaw. “I’m starving, I think I’ll go out hunting again. Want to come?” she asked then shook her thick gray pelt.
Emeraldclaw –
Emeraldclaw grinned. “Sure! With Monarchy coming today, we’ll need to have lots of prey.”
Emeraldclaw stretched her legs as she stood, fluffing out her white fur.
“We better be quick. The races will be starting soon.”
The Monarchy Visit is Beginning !
Prepare for the races, and hope that the prey pile is stocked up !
Littleleaf –
Littleleaf peeked through the trees. A few cats were walking through the trees. their eyes glinted different colors.
Monarchy cats.
He wondered if they would notice him.
Green –
Green padded up to Littleleaf, staring on, as he stared wide eyed at the Monarchy cats. She sighed, and turned away from them, everytime she saw them, Green wondered whether one of those cats had Brown’s blood on their paws.
“Just keep your head low, take a deep breath and be respectful. Don’t do what…. what the… the old deputies did.”
Brown’s face flashed through her mind but she shook the image out
Littleleaf –
Littleleaf glanced up at Green. He bit his lip, looking back at the Monarchy cats. His pelt prickled with anxiety. He knew that after the races were over, after he had won, more importantly, that the Monarchy would be gone, back their camp, and Arbulu could go back to their normal lives.
“Do you know any of them?” he asked Green.
Green –
Sighing, she shook her head, closing her eyes
“I
No, I don’t know a single one of them, not their faces, not their names. Apart from Screech’shi.”
She turned to him, smiling slightly.
“Anyway, we better get ready for the races.”
Fern –
She caught one last sparrow before heading back to camp. Stopping along the way, to pick up some previously buried prey, she hoped to make it back with time to spare. Then maybe she could give the clan a little pep talk. Fern could smell the fear and anxiety flooding from the camp before she even arrived. Placing her catches on the well-stocked fresh-kill pile, she found some of the more anxious cats.
“Green, Littleleaf,” she meowed in greeting. “How are you feeling?”
Littleleaf –
Littleleaf nodded to Green, then glanced at Fern. “Great. I’m ready to win the races and get life back to normal.”
He grinned, but then frowned at the Monarchy cats. “Hey, do you know a cat who was once named Brooke among the Monarchy?” His pelt prickled nervously. Brooke was Emeraldclaw’s sister.
Olivefrond –
Olivefrond trotted into camp, two plump mice dangling from his jaws. He looked around for his brother, but didn’t spot him. Perhaps he was hunting or practicing for the races.
(His brother is open for anyone who wants to make him)
Moon Dust –
Moon Dust bounced on her toes, eyes bright. “This is exciting!” She whispered to Avear, looking around at the greenery, the trees, the squishy moss beneath her claws. Sure, she had caught glimpses of other cats – a Dahon healer when Flea had a nasty cough, a Reis cat looking for berries, but she had never stood on the edge of another world before.
Avear – Monarchy –
Aver glanced around at the Arbulu cats. “So exciting!” She whispered, flicking her tail eagerly.
“So, listen, one of reason I wanted to come to Arbulu is because I have a sister here… Do you think you could help me find her…? I remember she was white, and her name was Emerald.
Littleleaf –
Littleleaf froze when he heard the two Monarchy cats talking. White? Named Emerald? His eyes widened. Emeraldclaw… He turned away quickly.
This never happened…
Avear – Monarchy –
Avear wriggled slightly, shaking herself out. “Yes, this is amazing! I’m so looking forward to watching the races!” Avear grinned happily. “Let’s say hi to some Arbulu cats!” She suppressed a worm of doubt. She was hoping to find her sister, but what if her sister didn’t want to see her…?
Moon Dust, Monarchy –
Moon Dust nodded eagerly. Tail swishing, she pushed her way deeper into the forest, a spring in her step. “Hello?” She called lightly, ears flicking as she caught the sound of voices.
Olivefrond, Arbulu –
Olivefrond curled his tail around his paws, looking up as he heard a sweet, airy voice. “Must be a group from the Monarchy.” He mused, licking a paw and drawing it over his dark ears.
Green –
Padding up to the Monarchy cats, Green dipped her head respectfully.
“Greetings. My name is Green.”
She was so nervous, her whole body seemed nearly frozen in fear, but she was just about able to lift her head again, to meet the cats in the eye
“I am the Arbulu deputy, if you couldn’t guess that from my name.”
She let out a slight nervous laugh
“Is there anything you need ? Would you like a tour ?”
Moon Dust, Monarchy –
Moon Dust smiled, her face lighting up. “Hello.” She purred. “My name is Moon Dust, and this is Avear.” She motioned to the she-cat beside her. She looked up at the trees. “You have a beautiful home. Thank you for letting us visit it.”
Olivefrond, Arbulu –
Olivefrond padded up to Green’s side, dipping his head to the deputy. “Green. I see we have visitors.” His gaze swept over the two admittedly lovely she-cats. They both seemed friendly, at least.
Green –
Smiling back at Moon Dust, Green was glad to find that the first Monarchy cat she approached was friendly. She couldn’t have been greens murderer.
“Your welcome, it’s quite beautiful here isn’t it ? Would you like a tour around ? You may be able to join in the races later, if you wish.”
Avear – Monarchy –
Avear’s eyes lit up. “Yes, a tour would be wonderful.” She purred happily. “Actually, while we’re speaking, do you know of a cat here who might have the word EMERALD in the name?”
Littleleaf –
Littleleaf stiffened when he heard the Monarchy cat’s words. Emerald? Surely she couldn’t mean Emeraldclaw. His legs stiff, he walked quickly away from the group. Where was Emeraldclaw?
Moon Dust –
Moon Dust nodded. “I would love to see your home.” She mewed eagerly. “I may join, but I’m afraid my balance isn’t the best!” She stumbled a bit, unintentionally proving her point.
Olivefrond –
Olivefrond smirked a bit, watching the young Monarchy she-cat trip over her own toes.
Fallingleaf dropped their prey in the fresh-kill pile and looked around. They were excited for the races, but they were also nervous about the fact that they would be around so many Monarchy cats.
Creekscratch walked up to the cat at what seemed to be the fresh-kill pile. Creekscratch was about to ask the cat’s name in a friendly sort of way, but then remembered that she was supposed to be the one in charge here. She didn’t have to impress this cat. “Hello” she said curtly, “What’s going on here?”
Fallingleaf froze. Of all the cats the Monarchy she-cat could’ve approached… they scrambled for an answer. “I– uh, well, everyone is preparing for the races,” they stammered. “I was just hunting- um, do you want anything?” They weren’t sure if they were supposed to offer Monarchy cats prey or not, but it seemed like a safe bet.
Creekscratch looked down at the fresh-kill pile. Nothing seemed that different from the Monarchy, so far. “I’ll have a mouse,” She said. “Now, where are the races?” Creekscratch didn’t act like it, but she was excited for the races. She always loved a good game, and although she wouldn’t be able to compete, she still looked forwards to watching.
Olive Sparrow, Arbulu-
“Hazel! You made it!” Olive Sparrow exclaimed as he ran over to greet his friend.
Hazel, Monarchy-
“Of course, I wouldn’t miss it,” Hazel murmured, distracted by all the unfamiliar cats around him. Arbulu was nothing like the Monarchy.
Grasswolf-
After returning from her hunting with Emeraldclaw, Grasswolf looked around camp noting all the Monarchy cats in it. ‘It’s not normal, why do they come here just to make us feel small. As if just because they have separate eye colors they were the most important ones’ she thought, and realized that she was snarling. She quickly eased her muscles and tried to calm down. She let out a low hiss then with a flick of her tail settled down in the sun.
The races in Arubulu went well, with a few Monarchy cats winning prizes, whether they won fairly or a younger apprentice slowed down is up for debate. Green, after initially struggling managed to organise the cats, yet a few fumbles from slippery trees have prompted her to ban all cats under 8 moons from climbing
Someone has snapped branches along some of the clans racing routes ! Do you go to the Monarchy over this problem or sort it out yourself, either way some cat will probably be punished
