  • Chapter Three:
    “Darnit!” Spookbreeze watches the mouse scurry away into the bushes.
    “You’ll get it next time,” Wrappingwhisker assures him. The deputy seems a little distracted. They continue on for a minute, then Spookbreeze freezes.
    “Rabbit,” he hisses to Wrappingwhisker. The deputy nods, and they split up, flanking the rabbit. Wrappingwhisker darts at it suddenly, chasing it right at Spookbreeze. At the last second, it veers to the side, almost leaping into a bush of bright red berries before Spookbreeze catches it. He looks up at the berries. Deathberries? This early in Newleaf? Wrappingwhisker seems to be thinking the same thing.
    “We’ll tell Holidaystar when we get back to camp,” Wrappingwhisker decides. They continue hunting.
    Featherdusk, Jaggedpaw, Ribbontail, and Cupidpaw are also hunting. Featherdusk catches a fat rabbit, and Jaggedpaw’s flying leap takes down a huge crow. Ribbontail seems too distracted to hunt, thinking about Cupidpaw and Balloonpaw’s behavior. Cupidpaw had insisted that Balloonpaw needed battle training, and that he shouldn’t come hunting. Newlight had told Ribbontail to hunt, while she trained Balloonpaw. Jaggedpaw and Cupidpaw fall back while they’re returning to camp, talking in hushed voices.
    “Did you see that leap? My crow will feed all the elders!” Jaggedpaw brags.
    “I’m glad I could convince Ribbontail not to let Balloonpaw come,” Cupidpaw says, changing the subject.
    “Why?” Jaggedpaw wonders.
    “Because, he still hasn’t done enough. He should’ve been watching Christmaspaw, but he wasn’t! Sorry won’t cut it!” Cupidpaw spits. Jaggedpaw just shakes her head.
    “It’s not like that, Cupidpaw,” she sighs. “You’ll get it later on, I guess.” Though Jaggedpaw is only two moons older than Cupidpaw, she seems to know much more about forgiveness. Jaggedpaw skips ahead to chat with Featherdusk, her older sister and mentor. Cupidpaw fumes. Why can’t Jaggedpaw see? Balloonpaw should’ve known better.
    Meanwhile, back at camp, Christmaspaw, Holidaystar, Balloonpaw, and Eggfall are all crowded into the medicine cat den.
    “Will my paw ever heal?” Christmaspaw grumps.
    “Of course, just another week or so and you’ll be up and running,” Eggfall assures her.
    “I’m sorry, Christmaspaw,” Balloonpaw apologizes, “I should’ve been watching you.”
    “Nah, it’s fine,” Christmaspaw says dismissively. “I should’ve been more careful.”
    “Why’s Holidaystar here?” Balloonpaw wonders.
    “That’s her own business,” Christmaspaw decides. “We shouldn’t bother her.”
    “You want to head over and get some fresh-kill?” Balloonpaw asks.
    “Exercise will be good for you paw,” Eggfall agrees. “Go on, Christmaspaw.” The two apprentices head out of the den, alibi slowly. Eggfall turns to Holidaystar.
    “I think it’s safe to say that you’re expecting your third litter,” she tells the leader. Holidaystar nods.
    “I suggest that you refrain from patrolling and hunting,” the medicine cat adds.
    “Thank you, Eggfall,” Holidaystar purrs as she leaves the den. I’m going to have more kits, Holidaystar thinks. But will they all survive?

    How do you feel about being able to return to your duties soon? Do you think your assessment will be delayed because of your injury?

    Everyone else
    Holidaystar has announced that she’s pregnant with her third litter. How do you feel about it? Is it good, or bad?

    Holidaystar – Now that I think about it, I have mixed feelings. After what happened last time. . .
    Wrappingwhisker – I’m happy for Holidaystar, but our last two litters. . . well. . . Featherdusk and Jaggedpaw are our only living kits.
    Featherdusk – I hope that all the kits survive.
    Jaggedpaw – I’m getting brothers and sisters! Or one or the other or. . . I’m really excited, I guess. Although it kind of reminds me of Peakkit. . . my brother didn’t survive more than a day.
    Eggfall – I’m honestly worried. After the problems with the last two litters, Holidaystar could die kitting, and the kits might die as well.
    Candycorntail – I’m happy for Holidaystar, but I hope that they don’t have to go through it all again. . .

      I’m happy that holidaystar is having more kits, they make her happy but I hope that the deathberries aren’t a bad omen.

      I still don’t know why Cupidpaw is still mad at me. I’ve talked to Christmaspaw, she’s okay! Christmaspaw doesn’t mind, maybe I can get Christmaspaw to tell her that?

      I really have no idea what Jaggedpaw means. Maybe she means that I should forgive Balloonpaw… no! My anger at him has eased a little, but I’m still upset. Jaggedpaw must of meant that should forgive Balloonpaw, but the way I’ve been treating him will be hard to say sorry to him.

      It’s great! More kits means more warriors! It will be a great addition to the clan! I’m just sad that my kits, Cupidpaw and Balloonpaw aren’t talking to each other and Cupidpaw is ignoring him, and even more sad that their father, Luckyleaf, isn’t here with them.

    Chapter Four:
    It’s a week later. As the bright sun, hot for newleaf, beats down on the tall-rock, Holidaystar watches the three apprentices sitting below it, sharing prey. Christmaspaw is finally out of the medicine cat den, and Balloonpaw and Cupidpaw have been tasked to watch her carefully.
    “Finally, I’m out of Eggfall’s den,” Christmaspaw complains. “It’s so stuffy in there half the time!” Balloonpaw and Cupidpaw laugh. Holidaystar is glad to see them getting along a little better.
    “Hey does Eggfall think you’re healed enough to hunt tomorrow?” Balloonpaw asks. “We need to prepare for our assessments.”
    “Yeah, she said it’d be good for me,” Christmaspaw answers. “You wanna come?” She asks Cupidpaw.
    “I’m surprised you’re going hunting with Balloonpaw anyway, he isn’t very good at watching you,” Cupidpaw ventures.
    “Puh-lease. I’m not some helpless kit, Cupidpaw. Balloonpaw just made a mistake, and so did I. Quit making him feel bad,” Christmaspaw tells her. Cupidpaw sits back, stunned at Christmaspaw’s abrupt approach to the problem. Holidaystar chuckles, then turns her attention to where Spookbreeze and Wrappingwhisker are talking.
    “. . .feel about Holidaystar having kits again?” Spookbreeze was asking.
    “I’m happy, or course, but after what happened with the other litters. . .” Wrappingwhisker sighs.
    “And with the deathberries,” Spookbreeze says idely.
    “Deathberries?” Wrappingwhisker wonders. “Oh, right, those deathberries.”
    “Could they be an omen?” Spookbreeze presses.
    Wrappingwhisker snorts. “I doubt it. Then again, I’m no medicine cat.” He stands. “I’m going hunting.” He leaves the camp quickly, leaving Spookbreeze staring after him, confused. Ribbontail walks up and asks it he wants to help her train Balloonpaw and Cupidpaw. They head off with the apprentices, deeper into the forest. Balloonpaw looks relieved that Cupidpaw is talking to him again, and Ribbontail is happy that they’re getting along. Holidaystar sighs. Leading a clan is harder than it sounds, she thinks, stretching and standing. Well, it’s almost time to make Balloonpaw, Cupidpaw, and Christmaspaw warriors, she reasons, I should set up their assessments.

    I know it’s short, I need more opinions.

    I can’t think about that right now.

    WRAPPINGWHISKER
    It’s nonsense. They’re is no omen. It’s just berries.

    EGGFALL
    Their could be an omen, I’m not sure though. It could be about Holidaystar’s kits, or about the assessments for Balloonpaw, Cupidpaw, and Christmaspaw. I’ll have to speak with StarClan tonight.

    CANDYCORNTAIL
    I’m happy for the apprentices. The berries probably mean nothing.

    FEATHERDUSK
    More warriors for the clan! And the deathberries? Unless Eggfall says it’s an omen, it’s nothing to worry about.

    JAGGEDPAW
    I’m glad they’re going to be warriors, but I haven’t been an apprentice for as long as them. I’ll be the only apprentice! I don’t want to be the only one doing apprentice duties!
    Sorry, what berries?

    Also:
    Birthdaywish’s kits are almost ready to be apprentices. Should Holidaystar make them apprentices when she makes Balloonpaw, Cupidpaw, and Christmaspaw warriors, or should she wait? Birthdaywish’s kits are almost six moons old, only a couple of days short, but they are mature for their age.

    • Christmaspaw : Yes I’m out of the Medicean den !!!! I am so happy I can take my asssessment at the same time, I want to be the best warrior ever, maybe one day I will have an apprentice as well !

      Spookbreeze : I can’t believe that Wrappingwhisker shrugged off the death berries !!
      I don’t have a strong connection to StarClan like Eggfall but I have a feeling that some thing will go wrong, it could be kit so , it could be Eggfall, it could be the apprentices, it could even be Wrappingwhisker ! but something is going to go wrong I am sure of it. I should go and talk to Eggfall, she seems like a cat who would take a gut feeling seriously maybe she will tell the clan to be careful

      The kit problem : I don’t think that the should be Apprentices yet as they might still be developing mentally and physically but you can’t see it

    Does Spookbreeze have a mate? If not, who would you be okay with him mating? (You can put a kit or apprentice, I’ll ask their owner and have them mate when they’re a warrior)
    Who is okay with me giving their cats mates and kits? I need to know this soon please.
    Cupidpaw, Balloonpaw, and Christmaspaw are nearly warriors. Their mentors will be ready to have more apprentices. Tell me if this is okay with you guys.

  • So I’ve just been reading through the comments…and yeah, I think Birthdaywish’s kits should be made apprentices at the same time as the apprentices are made warriors, because otherwise there’ll be too many apprentices and the kits will get bored.

    Should Birthdaywish maybe ask Holidaystar if they could be made apprentices early because they’re being too restless for the younger kits? Also, here’s the names and appearances – slightly altered – for my characters:

    Birthdaywish, a blue queen with purple spots and bright amber eyes who gets worried easily

    Purplekit, a bright purple she-kit who thinks she is very pretty

    Presentkit, a red and silver tom who loves running

    Happykit, a yellow tom who wants to be a medicine cat apprentice but is worried what his littermates will think

    Cakekit, a cream she-cat with brown specks over her back and ears who’s very competitive

    “What’s up, Spookbreeze?” Jaggedpaw wonders, sidling up next to him.”
    “Holidaystar says that the deathberries are nothing to worry about. But she wants to make kits apprentices before they’re six moons!”
    “Huh,” Jaggedpaw considers this. “Do you think it’s connected?”
    “I’m not sure, but something isn’t right.”
    “Maybe you should talk to Eggfall about it.”
    Spookbreeze nods. “I think I will.”

    Holidaystar perches on the edge of the tall-rock, peering down at the assembled cats. “Christmaspaw, Cupidpaw, Balloonpaw, it is time for you to become warriors. Do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and to fight to protect your clanmates, no matter the cost?”
    “I do!” The apprentices chorus.
    “Then from this day forth, Cupidpaw will be Cupidheart, Balloonpaw will be Balloonbreeze, and Christmaspaw will be Christmaslight!”
    “Cupidheart! Balloonbreeze! Christmaslight!”
    “And now, four kits are ready to become apprentices. Purplekit, Presentkit, Happykit, and Cakekit! Step forwards.” The kits take the new warriors’ place under the tall-rock. “Purplekit, Presentkit, and Cakekit. Do you promise to train hard to become warriors, and to always listen to your mentors?”
    “Yes,” The three kits exclaim, confused at why their sibling is being left out.
    “Then you are now Purplepaw, Presentpaw, and Cakepaw. Purplepaw, your mentor will be Spookbreeze. Presentpaw, your mentor will be Shamrockdance. Cakepaw, your mentor will be Wrappingwhisker.” The pairs touch noses. “Now, you’re probably confused at why Happykit wasn’t included. I’ve spoken with him, and he’s decided to take the path of a medicine cat.” Holidaystar steps back to let Eggfall take her place.
    “Happykit, do you promise to follow the code of medicine cats, and to heal any cat equally, no matter what?” Eggfall asks.
    “I do,” Happykit squeaks.
    “Then you are now Happypaw, my apprentice, and will be such until you receive your full name as a medicine cat.”
    “Purplepaw! Presentpaw! Happypaw! Cakepaw!”
    Holidaystar reclaims her perch. “Clan dismissed!”
