Blueflower: Badgerfern, how did Shiningheart die?

Badgerfern: When I examined the body, there were no claw marks on the body that we
could see, so I determined that she either suffocated or was poisoned.

Blueflower: Lightningstar, where was the body found?

Lightningstar: Softscar, Mountainshade, Foxpaw, Fishpaw, and Pheasantpaw found the body on the training grounds, which makes sense considering she had gone ahead of time to practice a move she had never been able to get quite right so that she could teach it to the apprentices properly.

Blueflower: Foxpaw, did you ever notice anyone acting strangely around Shingingheart?

Foxpaw: Well, Slateear had always been slightly jealous of her, but he wasn’t so jealous as to kill her!

Blueflower: Mountainshade, what were the reactions of the cats who found her body?

Mountainshade: Softscar was distraught. Shiningheart had been her first apprentice, and close friend. Foxpaw just… froze. I don’t think she has even processed that she had died yet. Poor little cat. She’s too young to have to deal with the death of her mentor. Fishpaw had crept up to Foxpaw and had pressed up against her. Pheasantpaw had went up to her body, sniffed it, then came running back to his siblings. She had always been the bravest of the trio, but I think that might have made her a bit more timid. I was… shocked. Shiningheart and I had grown up together. We had been best friends. She was almost like a sister to me.

Blueflower: Slateear, why were you jealous of Shiningheart?

Slateear: Just an old apprentice rivalry that I could never seem to let go of completely. We were apprentices at the same time, not siblings, mind you. Shiningheart was always better than me at hunting, fighting, tracking, etc. We were never really mean to each other, just had a frenemy kind of relationship. I will miss that…

Blueflower: Vixenfern, why did you join the clan?

Vixenfern: I was born a loner. My mother died when I was a kit. I wandered as a rogue with a couple of other cats for a while, but they all died when dogs attacked. I had heard about the clans, and I wanted to try them out. I hung around the border for a while, figuring out how it worked. Recently, I found the courage to join. It has been the best decision of my life so far!

“I’m going out for a bit!” Echomist, Amberkit’s mother called. “Okay!” Amberkit called back. “Hey, Amberkit!” Duckkit, her denmate, called from outside the nursery after Echomist had gone. “Do you and Cherrykit wanna come out and play with Lakekit and I?” “Sure!” Amberkit squeaked. Cherrykit, her littermate, looked unsure. “Shouldn’t we ask mama?” She mewed. Amberkit rolled her eyes. Cherrykit could be such a scaredy mouse sometimes. But mama might get mad if they snuck out without telling her.
