History Has Its Eyes On You
Sorry about replying so late!
Don’t worry, it’s not dead- just hibernating. 😉 It’s been slowing down quite a bit, mostly because I’ve been lacking motivation, but I’m definitely planning to get back into it- it’s too special to allow to die and I think I’m getting more inspired lately. 🙂
Yay! That’s good 🙂
Tomorrow There’ll Be More Of Us
~Smokey~
The gray rooster walked slowly along the sidewalk, happily munching on crackers.
Then, realizing he was probably rude by eating in front of his friends when they didn’t have anything, he looked up and held out the bag of crackers, “Want some?”
~Dill~
“Sure,” the small rooster nodded. Thanking Smokey, he took one cracker from the bag, then handed it to his sister Parsley.
~Parsley~
Parsley happily pecked at the cracker, leaning against Dill’s side to make sure she stayed close to him. “Don’t leave without me,” she mumbled between mouthfuls.
~Dill~
“Of course I won’t.” To prove his point he stopped walking and stood beside Parsley as he waited for her.
Lucy-
“Ooh, I love crackers! What kind are they? I like graham crackers, Ritz crackers, saltines…” Lucy said, padding alongside her friends.
Tomorrow There’ll Be More Of Us
“Ah, that’s cool,” Smokey mumbled between bites, “I like all crackers. I guess I’m just not a picky kind of guy.”
“These are graham crackers,” he added, offering some to Lucy.
Lucy-
“Cool! I especially like them with peanut butter!” Lucy pulled some peanut butter out of her backpack.
Molly-
“You just carry peanut butter around?” Molly asked, smiling. It seemed like an extremely Lucy thing to do.
Lucy-
“Well, yeah!” said Lucy. After all, didn’t everyone carry peanut butter around?
The Room Where It Happens
~Shadedpool~
The silver hen stood quietly by some bushes, glancing at the animals but not saying anything.
As much as she wanted to be kind to them -and she would be nice if she were to be approached- Shadedpool had never met any of these animals, and therefore couldn’t really trust them. At least for now.
~Meg~
Meg ran up behind Shadedpool, before barking in a terrifyingly loud voice.
“What’cha doin’?” she yelped, whisking her tail around in a circle.
~Shadedpool~
The hen leaped back with a gasp, her smooth wings fluttering as she regained her balance. Turning around to see the dog looking at her she murmured a quiet apology, the tips of her red comb brightening with embarassment. “Oh,” she said softly, “Not much, just…” she glanced up into Meg’s brown eyes. “Just watching I guess,” she replied more lightly, her tail twitching.
Meg smiled a somewhat unsettling, yet sweet smile.
“Stalking or observing?” she noted playfully, grinning.
“Oh, I’d never want to stalk!” Shadedpool flinched, her eyes widening in shame.
Then, realizing Meg was only joking she forced a small smile and let her tail-feathers relax.
Meg scratched her ear.
“Are you going to go talk to them or what? Either that, or you can talk to me, and I can tell you about the time I showed a slug to Duke!”
~Leafshade~
Her tail streaming in the wind, Leafshade trotted up to her friends. “Is everything okay?” she clucked anxiously, her pine-green gaze flitting from face to face as she looked around the crowd, “Any injuries?”
Then she glanced down at the sidewalk, her floppy comb growing hot as she realized everyone was relaxed and there was really no reason to believe there was any problem. “Sorry if I’m being annoying, constantly worrying over you guys like that. It’s not that I don’t think you can take care of yourselves.” She gave a nervous chuckle, “I guess I’m just a fretful featherbrain!”
Glitch eyed down the chickens. “Theres our dinner” he whispered. Sapphire looked at him anxiously, “Can’t we find anything else? I’d hate to kill anything while they’re happy and alive”
“We must gather food, Sapphire” Sapphire nodded sadly. The two got into the hunting position and pounced, but a light gray and white eagle knocked them down. Breeze stood in front of them, holding up her wings. “You will not touch them” she snapped.
“You’ll regret this” Glitch snarled, “Your a large piece of prey right in front of our hungry eyes. Can’t you see our bones” Breeze glared at him. “Well then kill me” The chickens behind her gasped. “I was sent with no duty anyway. Just don’t kill them” Breeze looked like she was going to say one final piece but Glitch lunged at her and tore her neck open. “If you kill them, you’ll regret i-” Breeze rasped. Then before she could finished. She was silent and still. It was all clear. Breeze was dead
~Leafshade~
Leafshade gasped, her green eyes widened with horror as she stared at Breeze’s unmoving shape. Her wings flapping, she rushed towards the eagle- Breeze couldn’t be dead, she mustn’t be dead!
“S-she can’t be gone, I’ll heal her,” she screeched although hopelessness tugged her heart. The young hen understood what had happened, even if she refused to accept it.
Willowbranch-
Willowbranch sat beside Leafshade.
“Leafshade, there isn’t anything we can do now.” she quietly mewed. “We can have a funeral for Breeze, we can honor her life, but she’s gone now.”
A tear trickled down Willowbranch’s face.
Tomorrow There’ll Be More Of Us
Leafshade’s heart tightened but she blinked up at Willowbranch with understanding and nodded stiffly.
She wished Petal had been here, remembering the older hen’s gentle skill- at healing injuries, at acting fast in an emergency, at saving animals… All the skills I lack… she thought miserably.
Then large tears welled up in Leafshade’s eyes like dew on a foggy day, and she buried her face in Breeze’s feathers.
“I’m sorry, Breeze,” the young hen’s trembling cluck was barely more than a whisper, “I failed to save you. And I’m sorry.”
Sudden anger surged through Sapphire. She really didn’t understand. Sure, it must be terrifying to see someone die in front of their eyes, but to have a funeral for someone they barely knew? She dragged Breeze’s body away from the animals and to her and Glitch. “You don’t understand” she hissed. “Why can’t you accept that when it comes to hunting prey, someone has to die. It’s either prey must be killed, or the hunters starve to death. And to think about it. Hunters need prey to survive-” Glitch cut her off. “And no matter how hard you try, you can’t save everything. Life isn’t fair, but out here with nobody to trust, we must kill to survive” Sapphire nodded. “Now excuse us as we eat our dinner.” The two cats took bites at Breeze, and when nothing was left but a skeleton, they left.

Silver lurked in the shadows as this went down. When Breeze was killed, not a whisker twitched, for she was used to seeing food die. She decided not to prey on the chickens, for they were too well protected, and she didn’t want to be the one who ruined their happiness like so many had ruined hers. No, she would find some mice, or a fat rabbit. Besides, chicken weren’t even that good.
Fawn looked at Silver nervously, she knew what a hunting animal looked like and Silver was pretty close, “who are you?” She asked, making sure she had a clear escape away from Silver just in case.
Silver eyed the little fawn. She then made her voice relaxed and non-threatening. “My name is Silver. Its so sad that the eagle died. I would go comfort the chickens, but I’m afraid they would be afraid of me, and run away. What’s your name?” While Silver was talking, she slightly angled her position to have a better pouncing range at the fawn. “Don’t worry, I wouldn’t hurt a fly. You don’t have to be scared.” But even though her voice was friendly, her eyes were cold and hard, sizing the fawn up and preparing to pounce.
Fawn slightly relaxed, “I’m Fawn” she said, “How did the eagle die?” She spotted Silver getting into position, but didn’t move a muscle.
“Those two cats over there. I don’t know who they are, but stay away from them. Those two would do anything for food.” Silver licked her paw nonchalantly. “A shame, really. Those scrawny cats would never have even thought about burying the body. I hope the eagle’s friends will do it, for she died protecting them, and the eagle really needs a proper burial.” Silver eyed Fawn curiously. Maybe, instead of trying to kill the fawn, for that would make a scene and she didn’t want to attract attention, she could try to get some information out of her about this town. She then cleverly brought up a different subject, away from the mention of animals dying, for that may unnerve the fawn, and she may not want to talk. “So your name is Fawn? That’s very interesting. I’ve never met anyone with that name before. What are the names of the other animals that live here?”
Fawn relaxed, “I only know two others who live here.” She admitted, “Their names are Luna and Nova.” Her face brightened, “I can take you to them!” She said excitedly.
“Sure!” Silver said in an easygoing tone.
Fawn bounced excitedly, “Follow me!” She said, she paused, “You don’t mind that Nova is a dog, do you?” She asked anxiously.
Nova(in response to Daydream, sorry I haven’t responded)-
Nova stared at Copper, “Shard?” She asked in disbelief, “Is it really you? And is this Seafoam?” She stared at both of them, excitement welling over her.
(late response to u lol)
Seafoam nodded happily. “Afraid we never got to meet” she barked, “And Shard? That’s Copper now.” Copper was looking at a strange rock. Needles seemed to be poking out of it. “SEAFOAM!” he yowled, “WHY IS THERE A HEDGEHOG HERE?”
Nova looked at Copper in amusement, “That’s Luna” she said, “Luna, this is Copper.”
Luna watched at the new dogs warily, “Hi” she said
Nova stared at Copper, “I haven’t seen you in awhile” she said, “where have you been?”
Luna crept our from under the porch and looked around, “Hello?” She squeaked to no one in particular, “Does anyone know where I am?”
Fawn cautiously steps out of the woods, “Hello?” She looked around nervously and tensed her legs, getting ready to run.
A cat comes from another house, “who are you” says Grover.
(in response to Fawn/Emberstream)
“No.” Silver purred. “Dogs are fine unless they try to attack. Let’s go!”
Fawn smiled, she lead Silver to where Nova was talking with Copper and Seafoam, “Hi Nova!” She said, them she noticed the others, “Who are you?” She asked, scared. Nova gently nudged Fawn, “It’s ok, they’re friends” Fawn glanced at Silver, “I made a friend to!” She said happily, “Silver, this is Nova, and that white hedgehog is Luna!”
“Hi Nova, Hi Luna.” Silver purred in a “happy” tone. “It’s so nice to finally meet some animals around here!” She sat down. “So, what’s it like around here?” She blinked at Nova.
Nova tipped her head, “It’s nice, certain animals are annoying, but you get used to them.” She looked at Silver curiously, “Why do you want to know?”
“Oh, just trying to get to know the locals to try to fit in around here.” Silver said breezily, though she regarded Nova with respect now. This dog was smart. “You guys know anyone else around here?”
Nova looked around sheepishly, “I only know Fawn, Luna, Copper and Seafoam, I never really tried to socialize.”
Fawn looked around, “Silver, come on, let’s go.” She said, she would never admit it, but she was scared Silver would become better friends with Nova than her, Nova had already stolen one friend from her, she was determined not to let it happen again.
“Alright Fawn.” Silver silkily purred. “Why don’t we go meet some new animals?” She strutted off, casually glancing over her shoulder to see if the little deer was following.
Fawn quickly followed, “How long have you been here?” She asked Silver, completely at ease now with the she-cat
“Oh, not too long. I just got here, actually.” Silver glanced at Fawn, “How long have you been here?”
(sorry about being inactive, I went to a friend’s wedding and there was no internet)
“I’ve been here for a couple months.” Fawn answered, “The other animals like to chase me sometimes, so I have to stay hidden a lot.”
(It’s fine. I hope you had fun.)
“Ah.” Silver nodded knowingly. “A lot of animals do. Sometimes, its better to stand up to them, rather then go hide. A lot of bullies will stop if you growl-err, bleat at them to stop.”
Fawn glanced at Silver, “Do you really think they would stop?” She asked curiously
“Well, it worked for me when I was a kitten and I was around your size.” Silver stopped and sat down. “Here, I can teach you to sound like you mean business if you want me to.”
Fawn nodded after a moments hesitation
“Ok. Repeat after me.” Silver then went on to teach Fawn various sounds she could make to sound menacing, until the sun went down.
(sorry I’m lazy today)
At the end Fawn looked around, “Are you sure they won’t bother me?” She asked nervously
“Yeah.” Silver tossed her head. “See you around.” She bluntly walked off.
Fawn watched in surprise as Sliver walked off and glanced around nervously. She found herself randomly making noises trying to imitate Silver. She jerked her head up when she heard a noise and darted into the woods, not staying around long enough to find out what it was
