  • Coal Level Up – Level 1 to Level 2
Coal absentmindedly stared at the ice forming around his paws. He saw the others marveling at their powers, proud of them – but only one word came to Coal’s mind.
    Dangerous.
It lurked in the faintest breeze, the smallest rustle of the bracken, but Coal felt it. Felt it beneath his pelt, felt in in the air like Mouse’s “harmless” electricity.
    These powers were sinister.
He remembered the flash of what he’d seen earlier – he’d seen the past.
What if I can see the future?
An ominous feeling washed over him. He didn’t want to know the future. He didn’t want to see himself, evil as he’d always feared he would be. He knew it would happen – it had to. It was the only way.
But now wasn’t the time to think about that. He suppressed a shiver at the cold that wasn’t from the ice on his paws as he watched Mouse.
This was what he’d always wanted – why was he scared of it? He was going to do a lot worse than freeze something.
He closed his eyes, feeling the dread creep over him.
This is the first step to becoming a monster.

  • Here’s Hazel and Anthracite’s level 1 to 2 writing, I posted it a link to it on the discord but I should put it here too. And yes I was planning on leveling them up via rp posts but it took too much effort on my part

    Hazel Level Up: 1 -> 2
Hazel stared at the small sparks of fire dancing around his paws. Powers, He thought, tilting his head. So that god…Pilate…he wasn’t lying when he said that we’d get powers. He never thought he’d get something as interesting as this – Fire and Nature powers. After all, he was an average Haningan soldier who had devoted all his energy and strength to the army – loyal to Haninga, proud of his heritage, and all of that. So why? Was it the connection to his homeland, or was it just a coincidence?

His gaze turning to the screeching griffin that had been summoned, he grimaced. But these powers…at the moment they’re so weak. How am I supposed to do anything? But all around him, he noticed other cats, fighting the griffin. Even the ones with powers that Hazel himself thought of as somewhat inferior…at least most of them were doing something. If we’re supposed to use our powers to defeat it…together…then would we stand a chance?

Rearing back, he aimed a blow at the creature – only for him to miss, tumbling away into a darker corner of the wide room. Getting to his paws, the Haningan huffed, his claws still unsheathed. He sat back at his haunches, brushing off the dust on his pelt. How could he have missed? His gaze scanned the room, his eyes narrowing – there was too many cats attacking it at once. Even with their practically useless powers, He thought grimly, though a hint of a smirk was on his face.

Nearby him was a small, withering plant. His ears pricking up, he took a few steps towards it, avoiding the fighting. That’s right. I also have nature powers. Focusing in on the decaying stem, he attempted to make it grow – the stem gradually began to pick itself up, as if it had just been touched by the sun. And I’m its sun.

Struggling to keep the plant growing, he let out an exhausted sigh, his tail drooping. I can’t even make anything grow that much, He deduced, turning away from it. I don’t suppose the greenery here will be doing much good around here, will it? Upon catching sight of the flickering flames once more, he let out a suppressed hiss, baring his teeth.

“What good is having dangerous powers if they don’t do anything to anyone?”

Forcing his fur to flatten, he kept his claws unsheathed. How am I supposed to practice these powers in the middle of a fight? He wondered, feeling a twinge of irritation in his chest. How are these powers supposed to do anything during a fight now? These flames don’t do anything but dance, and what good is a plant against a griffin? However, he knew that these questions wouldn’t get answered. The only thing I’m good at is using my brute force. So that’s exactly what I’m going to do.

Taking another swipe at the griffin, Hazel aimed for its belly, hoping to wound it terribly. Instead, the griffin noticed Hazel, its narrow eyes sharp – it lashed out at Hazel, striking his flank before he could even land a hit. Yelping in pain, he stumbled back, his eyes wide at the now bleeding wounds he had just received.

I…I couldn’t even land a single hit on it. His tongue rasping against the fresh wounds, he let his shoulders slump. Useless fire powers. Useless nature powers. Useless me.

He noticed two other cats attacking the griffin – one small dark chocolate tabby and a much larger grey tabby. Hazel didn’t remember either of them from the first Test – did they arrive during the second wait? It didn’t matter much, to Hazel at least. The grey tabby’s body was flickering in the shadows, sneaking behind the griffin – she soon pounced, distracting the griffin as the smaller tom scratched the griffin’s stomach. As the griffin began to inflict damage upon the two, Hazel turned away, unable to watch.

Those two…they aren’t even using their powers that much, are they? Except for that grey tabby, but… Wrapping his tail around his paws, he let out a sigh. Even without using the powers, everyone else knows their place. And how to contribute. But me?

    I’m just here.

    Anthracite Level Up: 1 -> 2
Anthracite always thought that they were a nuisance to the cats around them. It was no secret to them, this being one of the few things they could remember off the top of their head. Despite losing most of their memory and leaving that old life behind them, Anthracite found themself believing this more than half of the time.

…The powers they were given during the Tests did not help with this mindset, either.
    ★ ★ ★
Upon hearing Rostrata’s yelp, Anthracite twisted around, their gaze wide. What was that for? And is she alright? Anthracite had found it weird, being concerned for another cat – they had been living outside the districts on their own for so long that it was hard to find the heart to care for others. Rostrata glared at Anthracite, her gaze hard.

“What was that for?” She snapped, huffing. Anthracite recoiled, baffled. Just what is she getting on my case for now? I thought we agreed to communicate with one another?

Before Anthracite could whip up a snippy retort, they glanced down at their paws – maybe they accidentally poked Rostrata with their claws? Rather than being relieved to see that their claws had in fact been sheathed, Anthracite held back a horrified gasp upon seeing the crackling on their paws – it was faint, but it was definitely there. Rostrata let out an excited squeal, her once irate demeanor suddenly vanishing.

“Right, didn’t that cat say something about powers? That must be yours!”

“So I have Electric and Healing powers. Big deal,” They muttered in reply, though Rostrata thankfully didn’t seem to hear. It is a big deal. Because instead of just being a nuisance like I’ve always been, now I could actually become a threat to others.
    ★ ★ ★
Sitting nearby the flowing stream, Anthracite watched as Rostrata took a sip from it. They couldn’t exactly bring themself to drink or eat after witnessing the events of the last test. Those two cats…they died. And even though I’m supposed to be able to heal, I didn’t do anything… Of course, they knew it wasn’t their fault. While they were an expert at finding ways to blame themself for anything and everything, they tried their best to avoid it. Still, in this situation, they still felt that they could have done something.

Glancing down at the little sparks of electricity at their paws, Anthracite held back a low growl in their throat. When these things aren’t a nuisance or a threat, they really are useless, huh? Before they could drone on, they stopped themself, sighing underneath their breath.

Don’t go down that path again, you idiot, They snapped, feeling their ears flatten against their head. You don’t want to be the coward you were back in the world outside of the districts. You don’t want to worry anyone – especially not Rostrata.

Anthracite wasn’t sure how exactly Rostrata felt about the whole situation, but they knew that they didn’t want to cause the she-cat more concern. I certainly didn’t help by eating that fruit, I at least know that. They could tell that Rostrata generally seemed to care about those around her, if the first test was anything to go by. Anthracite had been trying to ignore it, but they did feel terrible about being the reason for her concerns.

But Anthracite definitely knew that they were still trying to figure out if what had just happened was real. Those cats…they perished in the flames, fearful and in pain, their screams of terror playing on repeat in Anthracite’s mind. Even without knowing them too well, Anthracite could hardly find themself accepting that this was their fate. But it is. And the rest of us are next.

Raising one of their paws, Anthracite took a closer look at the sparks, frowning – they still didn’t seem particularly useful against other cats. And they doubted their healing capabilities would be that useful for anyone at the moment. Images of the screeching hellfire burned in Anthracite’s head.

And if these powers remain futile, like me…then more than just blood will be spilled in these Tests.

  • I was going to draw this, but I failed 😛
Pyr level up, cursed powers level 1-level 2
Pyr studied his paws, trying to figure out where the darkness had came from. He had been angry, he had shouted, and Rose had been hurt because of it. He had seen the pain flash through her eyes, the horror as she stared at him.
It was, in his opinion, extremely useful, although the achenes was inconvenient. But that could be ignored, with practice.
He narrowed his eyes, an idea creeping into his head. Perhaps, just maybe, it had to do with that one cat, whatever her name had been. Karina, that was right, or close enough anyways.
“Well, Karina,” he murmured under his breath, “Thank you very much.” Fire was interesting enough, but pain? Cats could run from fire, cats could put out fire, but there was no way to avoid pure pain. Despite the ache in his joints, Pyr grinned. This was a whole new level of power, a whole new level of control. Now, when the cultist disobeyed him, he wouldn’t have to get his paws dirty. He wouldn’t even have to lift them.
As he told Dux about his theory, he saw the panic in their eyes. They looked trapped, scared. Because, truly this time, Pyr had won, and Dux knew that. There was no way for a little breeze to defeat this.
With this new power, he would be unstoppable.

  • This is probably the longest comment in the history of comments, but here goes..

    Level 1-2 for Remorse

Remorse stood off to the side of the clearing as cats gathered in clusters, talking, eating, sleeping, and practicing their abilities. She felt a prick of regret. If I was more outgoing, would they accept me quicker..? She couldn’t help that she was cold and calculating at times, it was part of who she was, and she couldn’t change that. It seemed that everywhere she went, cats were talking to each other, making friends, and sharing bonds. Maybe there’s something wrong…with me. She recalled the day that everything changed and her world turned upside down.

“Bet you can’t catch me!” Remorse squealed as she and her best friend Rain scurried through the thick snow in Iseti. Rain’s legs were shorter, so she was slower than Remorse, who’s longer legs gave her a boost of speed. Although the odds were not in Rain’s favor, she didn’t give up and she managed to bowl Remorse over. Remorse squeaked as she was smothered in snow, and when she re-emerged, Rain was standing beside her, giving her chest a smug lick. “You didn’t have to make me drown in snow!” Remorse said indignantly. Rain shrugged. “You asked for it!” Remorse scooped up some snow and threw it at Rain, which landed on its target. Rain wiped her face clean as Remorse mrrowed in laughter. After they finished their antics, they started talking about their futures. “I can’t wait until I’m old enough to be a guard of the monarch!” Rain said happily. “I’ll be able to defend them, and I’ll have a higher status and might even get my name changed!” “I bet your new name would be Furball.” Remorse said teasingly. “Hey!” Rain snapped. “How would I get THAT name? Choking on hairballs?” After a while, Rain mewed, “What about you? What would you do when you’re older?” Remorse thought for a while. “I don’t really know what my future would be,” she said truthfully, “I only know that I want to be with you.” Rain blinked. “With me? Really? Aww, that’s so sweet!” She covered Remorse’s paw with her own. “We could BOTH be part of the guard, and we would guard the monarch together.” “I’d like that,” Remorse said, feeling a warm happy glow inside her, which faded as a strong wind blew across the landscape. Rain sniffed the air, her expression turning to worry. “There’s going to be a snowstorm,” she said. “We need to go back home.” Remorse got up on her paws. “I know a shortcut,” she mewed smugly, and she led Rain into the cave. Rain hesitated, then said, “I don’t think this is a good idea…the cave could collapse.” Remorse shrugged. “I don’t know..it looks stable to me.” She padded deeper into the darkness, and Rain followed suit. They crossed half of the cave when Remorse heard a rumbling, like the cave itself was hungry. A second later, Remorse saw Rain’s glowing brown eyes stretched in fear. “There’s a cave-in! We need to run!” Remorse started running towards the exit, heart pounding then stopped as a massive rock above her tumbled down, threatening to crush her. She was going to die! She froze in horror, her mind racing in panic. Then she felt something bowling into her, and she fell to the ground. Searing pain raced through her leg, and her head pounded from hitting the stone hard ground . Then, everything went black.

Remorse blinked her eyes open in surprise. “What a terrifying dream,” she said to herself. She stood up and shook her hind paw crossly. Why couldn’t she feel it? And why did she have such a pounding headache? Then she saw Rain. Twisted. Lifeless.Empty. All the memories from before came rushing in on Remorse like a tidal wave.Remorse hobbled towards her friend’s body in anguish. “Rain!” she sobbed. “I shouldn’t have taken that path! You saved my life!” She pushed her nose into Rain’s cold fur, sobbing over her friend’s death shaking her like a leaf in the wind, until she knew nothing else but pain. I thought we were going to be together forever! she thought. Now, you’re gone, and you won’t come back…

    And it’s all my fault.
    ***
Remorse shook her pelt, aroused from her past memories. She looked at her hind paw. Who knew that a rock could destroy my hopes and dreams? she thought.

Who knew that one thing could change my life forever?

  • I made one more character, I’m sorry for putting them in different comments but it is the mate of Dwindle and the parents of Lilac, Tree and River. Sorry again
    Thx!

  • This role play is super fun! 😃 I am thinking about drawing Spotty soon to level xem up!

  • Mouse Level Up – Level 2 to Level 3
Even though Mouse’s mind may have been filled with the need for vengeance, she still had a very, very strong need to help others.
All her life, she’d watched cats die. Their lifeless eyes had seemed to look at her, as if asking, why couldn’t you save us?
    And Mouse could never answer.
Because she wanted to save them. She wanted to save everyone. Countless nights she’d lie in her nest and dead faces would flash through her mind, and she’d wonder why they had to die. She’d blame herself for not being able to save them.
This need to help others was almost as strong as her need to get revenge – they swung back and forth, one good and one questionable.
No matter how angry she got, how dark her mind turned, Mouse would always want to help. She’d wonder blankly why she was still alive, beg the gods to take her instead of another cat.
    But they never listened.
Now she stood over Fog. The she-cat lay limp as Mouse watched, her heart twisting with sympathy. Her new powers ran through her, humming through her blood, her bones.
    She could help this cat.
She put a paw to Fog’s fur, closing her eyes.
    She concentrated.
Now, she felt the power inside her even more. Traveling through every part of her, forever tying her to electricity, to the powers of healing.
She focused on this pull, channeled it. She dug her claws into the earth as her powers flowed to her paw, obeying her.
    I can help Fog.
She opened her eyes. Fog lay there, still wounded, still in need of help.
    No.
Mouse had to help her. To make up for all the cats she couldn’t save, all the lives she’d watched cease to exist.
However, instead of feeling discouraged, she felt hopeful.
Her powers would grow. Instead of giving up after this failure, she felt determined. Determined because now, she had the power to do something. No longer would she have to sit by, watching a cat writhe in pain, claws of pain digging into her heart at the fact that she could not help.
Now, she could finally do something.

    • Gosh I remember in the first tests (this is the third roleplay set in the tests world ! ) everyone did character theme songs 😛
hmmm idk about my characters either

      • Didn’t we do some character theme songs for Sophia’s Vengeance on the wiki though 😛

        • Yes but it wasn’t as huge as in the first tests, seriously you couldn’t open the art / discussions page without it taking forever to load because of the number of youtube video links

          • I think I vaguely remember looking at the art/discussions page and just being bombarded with a bunch of youtube video links 😛

Though to be fair it was probably also because not as many people went on the wiki, or at least on discussions

    • I don’t know what my character’s voices would sound like in the least, except Anthracite would probably sound like me because they’re the character that has the most aspects of me in them if we’re counting only my characters in this roleplay 😛

I do know some of mine’s theme songs though, Amaranth’s is Ghosts by Jacob Tillberg, Star and Bia’s theme song is probably Counting Stars (I think it was OneRepublic that made that one), Iris’ is the Partner’s Theme from PSMD, and Izaria’s might be Family of Me (which may or may not hint at me killing Lucien…or at least trying to)

  • I have questions, oof. 😛
Do all of the characters go into The Tests at the same time, and, seeing as I made a character late, does that mean that I need to pretend he was there the entire time? Or, rather, should I pretend he just came into The Tests now?
Also (not saying I’m going to yet, but I should probably figure this out): What are the ways in which you can level up a character’s powers (and it’s on this page where you’d do that, right)?

    • 1. Sort of 😛 Because all characters currently in the roleplay go into a Test (challenge) at the same time, but canonically, if you make a character now, they will have just been brought into the entire ordeal at the moment that you make the character so you don’t have to act like you were there from the beginning 🙂

      2. You can level up powers in 3 ways: roleplay posts, writing, or visual art. You can find details on the requirements of each level up on the info/lore page 🙂

  • Malley Level Up – Level 1 to Level 2
    Power.
All her life, Malley had been in pursuit of it. Since she was a kit, it had been an allusive, attractive thing, and she’d wanted nothing more than to grab ahold of it with her claws. Own it.
All her life, that had been a complication. Whether it was the bloody claws of an angry cat who she’d crossed, or the army’s resistance to moving her up the ranks despite her adamant skill, she’d been blockaded at every turn. By enemies, allies.
To Malley, life was a power game. And the thing was, you never won. Eventually, someone came and took you out, and took your place.
But Malley intended to win. She would make those who stood in her way back down, their once-triumphant eyes filled with the bleak terror of their impending doom.
Now she could win. Because she had power. Powers.
They surged through her every bone, flaming in her blood. Fire. Raw power.
Now, with fire, any cat she chose would be forced to listen to her or die.
A small fire started near her paws, and she aimed it at a bush, watching as the bush caught fire and burned.
Just like anyone who’d ever wronged her.
    They would burn.
    All of them.
Life was a power game, and Malley would win.

  • Dust, level up 1-2 writing.

    ————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

    Dust

    ————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

The strange patches of ice at his paws remained. Dust didn’t know what it was, someone couldn’t be freezing him at this point, right? He remembered what he was promised-

    Powers.

He walked in a tight circle, watching as with each step a patch of ice appeared to next to it.

Hope flashed in his chest. His mate, running off with that she-cat. A year passing by. With no news… Nothing to let him know if…

He closed his eyes, a fresh wave of grief causing him to hunch over. But now I can do something about it. He knew one day he would make it back to Bapxer, where she was killed. He just knew, one day, those monsters would be destroyed. He’d make sure of it.
