    As you probably guessed, there can definitely be more than one cat from each country! And each cat speaks their main language/languages plus English – the language they use to communicate.

    Backstory: Bulgaria was a poorer country. Ivana loved it with all of her heart, though.
    It was just perfect to her, the most amazing place on Earth.
    One day, while watching a Kukeri Ritual, a Bulgarian tradition for scaring away evil spirits, Ivana noticed that the costumes (yes the cats wear costumes 😛 ) looked familiar – they were the same as last year!!!
    How could they scare away the evil spirits with the costumes from last year?!?!
    Ivana was so mad – the Kukeri Ritual was her favourite thing EVER!
    She ran to her rundown appartment, where The Shadow Cat appeared to her, asking her to join the group.
    Of course, her eyes lit up and she replied, ‘Anything to save my precious Bulgaria.’

      Backstory: Elise lived in the beautiful city of Rabat in an island called Gozo just off of Malta. She loved her life there and her family.
      One day, her and her younger sister Maria (not pronounced in the normal way, like MAR-eeah) were walking. They reached the beautiful cliffs that look out into the Mediterranean Sea, both out of breath.
      As Elise looked out to the sinking sun and the sea, she heard a gasp behind her. In a flash, a cat had sneaked up behind them and pushed Maria off of the cliffs. They were too quick for Elise to see their face, but she knew they were from The Light Cat’s army – they had the mark – a crown tattoo on their head.
      Then The Shadow Cat appreared to her. Of course, Elise agreed, desperate to avenge her sister.
      Accessory: red and white flowers woven as a kind of vail around her left ear, and hanging down the side of her face.

      Backstory: Emma grew up with her brother Liam, her parents had disappeared very early on in her life, but both her and Liam were fine with that, they had no fond memories of either parent as they were very abusive. Emma began collecting small rocks and painting them with crushed berries and flowers, and she would sell them at the market, providing for both her and her brother. One day, a pack of wolves cornered Emma, and they left her with a massive scar. Cats were scared of her, saying she brought back luck, so Liam had to bring her pebbles to market instead. Emma was upset that her life had been ruined, so decided to try doing some good in the world

She protested the no trade under The Light Cat and joined The Shadow Cat, in hopes of building a better world for future families-perhaps even one of her own.

      Backstory: Kristian lived in the city of Copenhagen, Denmark. His country was beautiful and he loved it so much. His little brother Hans and Kristian himself, always went out in the late evening around the pretty city. One night, as they were walking, Hans bounded off, down a back alley.
      Kristian followed him, but he was too late. He heard Hans’ screams, calling for him, but they were cut short – only for Kristian to believe one thing – he was dead.
      He caught a quick glimpse of the cats, as he bounded round the corner to Hans. THey were pure white, almost glowing. That meant one thing.
      They were part of the Light Cat’s army. (Oof this is practically Elise’s backstory oof I just realised that :’) 😛 )

      Backstory: Aki came from a rich, controlling family, and was invited from a young age to join the Light Cat’s army. His parents sent him, but that was their mistake; he was eager at first to serve the forces of the Light Cat, but it was only a matter of time before a previously-sheltered young cat such as himself became disillusioned with the Light Cat’s violent rule. When the Shadow Cat, deciding to tap into the potential disillusionment of the cats closest to the Light Cat’s show of force, snuck into Aki’s army base and appeared to him, he readily accepted a chance to forge his own path and bring peace to the world; however, he could not escape his duties so easily, and reluctantly stayed in the Light army for a while until the Shadow Cat had gathered a large enough group of rebels.
      Accessories: He used to wear the Light Cat army uniform, but he has since shunned the uniform and now has no accessories.
      Likes: Peace, autumn, leading cats, freedom
      Dislikes: Battle, being subject to the will of others, bright light, embarrassment

      Backstory: Japan had always been peaceful and warm and there weren’t many cats there so everyone knew each other. But one day a mysterious cat came to the country. It would go around and cause chaos and Luna had always tried to find the cat, but never could. She still tries but no luck comes.

    Backstory: Svetlana was always teased for wondering off. Russia was a big country and cats are tough there, but Sveta is not. She was quickly abandoned unlike her brother, Vladimir, who got all the best things. Her parents said she was a shame to their family, who had always ended up high in the ranks. She was always chased away and never learned much Russian: Sveta mostly knew offensive and caring words, nothing in-between, as that was really all her parents talked about: loving Vladimir and hating Sveta. She met another cat named Alyona, who was just like her: abandoned because she wasn’t a fighter. Alyona was old, and apparently trained cats in herbs. When Sveta had lots of skill in healing, she disappeared one night.

    Backstory: She lived in Taiwan alone with her best friend Yue (moon in Chinese), who was a year older than her. Yue was like an older sister to Xiao, who is an orphan. The two were always together. Then one day, an old human roof fell on Yue’s head and she died. Xiao has felt lonely ever since.
    Accessory: Yue wore a moon necklace that her mom gave her when she died, so after Yue died, Xiao started wearing it to honor Yue.
    Likes: Food, friends, nighttime, the moon
    Dislikes: Being under a roof 🙁
