[Sunbeam and Nightheart walk side-by-side, smiling at each other]
Hello! Maplepaw’s back again for another “which mate is better?” article! For those who don’t know, I made part 1 back in September, and I decided that I’d like to make another one because I feel my writing has gotten a lot better since I wrote my last one.
SPOILERS for A Starless Clan, The Broken Code, and The New Prophecy!!!
SunxBlaze or SunxNight?
Blazefire was a horrible almost-mate to Sunbeam, and she deserved better! She loved him so much, and he acted like he felt the same right up until he hurt his leg when out with Lightleap. There – when Sunbeam was visiting him every day and the medicine den, worried about him – did he say that he no longer had feelings for her.
And that wasn’t even the worst part! After Lightleap made him do a dare, ending up in him hurting his leg, he still hung out with her and fell in love with her, and I might add that this is after he told Sunbeam they were only friends. She didn’t even show affection towards him until after she heard that he and Sunbeam had broken up. This left Sunbeam angry at her friend, and grieving because she lost the cat she loved most.
Nightheart is a great mate for Sunbeam, although I do think he rushed her. Eager to get out of ThunderClan and wanting to be known as his own cat, he immediately fled to ShadowClan and declared he would be Sunbeam’s mate without even speaking to her about it first. He totally embarrassed her in front of her entire Clan, and it was a childish, un-thought about idea that he didn’t even think about how she felt in the situation.
Later, after he was about to finish his third task and finally join Sunbeam (who had now developed feelings for the young tom), he on-purposely failed to join ThunderClan again because he finally re-thought his decision, and decided he actually wanted to return to ThunderClan and his family because he knew what a hot-head he had been when he left his Clan.
However, Sunbeam (heart still fragile and easy to break, especially after losing Blazefire) knew that she couldn’t let herself lose another almost-mate, and decided her feelings were too much to be pushed down and forgotten about, left ShadowClan to join Nightheart in ThunderClan.
There, she and Nightheart spent more time together, developing deeper feelings together and making themselves the amazing ship they are.
Better Ship?
SunxNight
BristlexStem or BristlexRoot?
Bristlefrost’s obsession over Stemleaf was just downright weird, and she should’ve expected him to reject her, as he never really showed any big emotions towards her. It was just an apprentice’s crush, if you asked me, and it was never really a ship that was going to grow.
BristlexRoot is the best, but it is kind of overrated.
First of all, it was the same thing as Bristlefrost’s crush on Stemleaf. Rootspring just felt big feelings towards an older cat who didn’t really have the same feelings back. Bristlefrost rejecting the prey from a young apprentice that only liked her because she saved him from drowning shouldn’t be something that puts her in a bad place! She didn’t even have feelings towards this cat, and it was leaf-bare, so it was reasonable for her to reject the prey and give it to the elders. Though this made Rootspring sad and somewhat embarrassed, like Nightheart to Sunbeam, he should’ve asked Bristlefrost about how she felt to him before showing up to ThunderClan with a crow that was for her.
For the first couple of books, Rootspring’s crush over Bristlefrost was something that some people dislike and like a lot. It was weird, but as Bristlefrost started having feelings towards Rootspring too, it ended up to be an amazing ship! The feeling when Bristlefrost died in the end was sad, and I wish that there might’ve been an alternative universe where Bristlefrost and Rootspring could’ve been together.
Better Ship?
BristlexRoot
DaisyxSmoke or DaisyxSpider?
There isn’t much known about DasyxSmoke, as the Clans arrived after the birth of their kits, and not giving enough context or background around this ship that showed what life was like before Daisy had kits. However, based on how Smoke reacted when Daisy decided to join the ThunderClan permanently, it did show how much he cared for her and how much he loved her.
I don’t know where this ship came from, but it was a failure.
Spiderleg only started to connect to Daisy because he mentored one of her kits, Mousewhisker. I don’t recall ever reading about their interactions, so I believe (unless there’s a book that does show them interacting before having kits) that most of them becoming mates was a background thing that happened through books without us noticing, during the time gap of two books, or between a time gap of series. So there wasn’t even a point where we could see them interacting until Daisy was expecting his kits. When hearing this news, Spiderleg must’ve not been ready, as he decided to ignore both Daisy and his kits. He never talked to his kits, leading them to growing up without a father, and Daisy even expressed how upset she was about it.
Better ship?
DaisyxSmoke.
Anyway, thanks for reading! I’d love to know your opinions, too!
great article!! i don’t think blazefire was horrible to sunbeam, but i do agree that sunxnight is the better ship :3
Great article! and yes, NightSun is a great ship!!
Great article!
Great article, but you can’t always control if you like someone or not, it’s not Blazefire’s fault for not like Sunbeam anymore, feelings change and just because you like someone doesn’t mean they have to like you back. Yet, I do agree that when they were in pretty-much-relationship, he treated her bad at the end a little bit. Again he didn’t have the same feelings as before. Also, I do agree with you about the other ships and that NightxSun was better.
I completely agree with all of these! 👍
