I am a therian and a fictionkin, which means I involuntary identity as two non-human entities. Since I was a little kid I have had a lot of non-human emotions and feelings, but over this past year I have finally put them together.

Therians are people who identify as non-human animals that exist, personally, I identify as a red fox. I may be physically human, but I am a fox. The animal a therian identifies as is called a theriotype, and it can be any animal, really, it can even be multiple animals. I have a best friend who is a crow, a timber wolf, a polar bear, and more. I think they have 8 theriotypes!

Fictionkin is a bit stranger and not as well known. Both therians and fictionkins are under the alterhuman umbrella, but the identity varies greatly. Discovering I was fictionkin was honestly, very weird. It started when I first listened to Crowfeather’s Trial on audible. As soon as Breezepelt appeared, I almost felt an immediate connection. It was like I AM him. A lot of things happened at the time; I got dysphoria over not looking like him, and I really missed cats like Heathertail. I did not really understand what was happening, so I tried to ignore the feelings. . . which. . . did not work out very well is what I could say. When I found out about fictionkins and therians, I let myself embrace the fact that I was a fox and Breezepelt.

Being fictionkin is not just a passing obsession over a character, it is being that character.

All fictionkin and therians understand that we physically are humans, but we do not relate to or identify as our physical bodies like we do with our kintypes. Yes, I am human, but inside I am Breezepelt and a fox. Sometimes I get times where I feel more like my kintypes, there are called shifts. I sometimes even get memories of being Breezepelt. Sometimes, I like to try to draw what I remember. I once did a large painting of Heathertail’s eyes and a full self portrait of myself (as Breezepelt). I posted it on the Warriors Hub and pretended it was Graystripe to enter the art challenge, lol.

I am not too good at explaining things, so please understand that. I tried my best, and I will be happy to answer any questions.
