Thank you so much to everyone who participated in this year’s gift exchange! As always, your creations were absolutely wonderful and you never fail to blow me away with your talent and creativity! To find your name in...
Okay, so this post is a little later than what I would’ve wanted, but I’ve had a busy week 😛 I’m also a little tired, so, only one cat pic this time 😛 You’re getting plenty from Cadvent, anyway...
The seventh edition of the Blog Monthly is here – written by Lil, fresh off the printing press Hello, everyone!! The Blog Monthly is back and better than ever! I hope you all love this edition, in my opinion it is one...
Fallowpaw defends Appledusk.
Bristleflight shares their thoughts on their favourite character.
Claimed!
Claimed!
nvm, you can have it back
Claimed until further notice (either if it is reclaimed by Pineblossom or if I give the word; I’ll try to visit here every once in a while, but this is more for helpful info for the roleplay, and may EVENTUALLY become sorta inactive)!
No, you do not have to read this to roleplay, but feel free to read it at any time or to refer back to it. It’ll help you to determine you or your character’s/characters’ year(s) at Hogwarts, which will, in turn, determine how skilled you or your character(s) are/is, what you or your character(s) have/has learned, are capable of, and are allowed to do; and this will determine what classes you or your character(s) SHOULD be roleplaying in, but this doesn’t mean you necessarily 100% have to follow this format.
NOTE: 1st years are ages 11-12 (starting at age 11). 2nd-year students are ages 12–13. 3rd-years are ages 13–14. 4th-years are 14–15, and 5th-year students are 15-16. 6th-years are ages 16-17, and 7th-years are ages 17-18.

👏👏👏👏Note that I looked up this information a long time ago and saved it to a Microsoft Word document for the sake of a Hogwarts story I was typing, so I’m going to try my best to put everything from the websites as notably part of the websites, and my paraphrasing in italics.👏👏👏👏

~ School Curriculum by Year ~
https://screenrant.com/hogwarts-school-curriculum-by-year/
NOTE: I GOT ALL THE CLASS INFORMATION OFF OF THE WEBSITE CALLED ScreenRant. The majority of this writing is not my own. I tried to take out things if need be, but I may have forgotten a “…” somewhere.
1st years are ages 11-12 (starting at age 11). 2nd-year students are ages 12–13. 3rd-years are ages 13–14. 4th-years are 14–15, and 5th-year students are 15-16. 6th-years are ages 16-17, and 7th-years are ages 17-18.
1st year required classes:
Charms: In Charms class, students learn how to cast, well, charms. These spells focus on changing what someone or something does…
Transfiguration: In contrast to charms, Transfiguration class focuses on changing what something or someone is rather than does… 👏 [An example] of what students learn in their first year [is] the Avifors Spell. 👏
Potions: As the name suggests, this class focuses on the brewing of potions that can achieve various results…. 👏 [S]ome of the potions they learn to brew are the Forgetfulness Potion and a cure for boils. 👏
History of Magic: …Taught by the ghost of Professor Binns, 👏 some of the topics discussed in the first year are the Gargoyle Strike of 1911 and the Werewolf Code of Conduct. 👏
Astronomy: Probably the subject that requires the least amount of explanation, astronomy in the Wizarding World doesn’t seem to be any different than Muggle astronomy. Classes for first years take place at midnight on Wednesdays, which seems rough to have a bunch of 11-year-olds up at midnight for class and expect them not to fall asleep.
Herbology: In Herbology, students learn about magical and mundane plants, their care, and magical properties… 👏 A few plants that first years learn about in the class are the infamous Mandrake and Devil’s Snare. 👏
Defense Against the Dark Arts: This class teaches students how to defend themselves against dark creatures, arts, and charms… I don’t think it’s still cursed to force a new teacher upon the class every year, and we’re going to pretend it’s not, even if it is.
Flying: This class is only mandatory for first years at Hogwarts. It teaches young witches and wizards the proper handling of a broom and the basics of flying… Most likely, someone who referees the Quidditch matches will also be the flying class professor.
2nd year classes:
During students’ second year at Hogwarts, their schedule of classes remains largely the same. They must take the seven core classes, which are Charms, Transfiguration, Potions, History of Magic, Astronomy, Herbology, and Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Flying class is not a requirement, but students who want to continue learning to fly or aspire to get involved in their house Quidditch teams may elect to continue taking it.
👏 Examples of specific class topics: The Freezing Charm (Immobulus), turning beetles into buttons, Leaping Toadstools, the Disarming Charm (Expelliarmus), and the Sleeping Draught. 👏
3rd year classes:
Students choose a minimum of two electives to add to their schedules for their third year. They still have to take the seven core classes, though, which seems like a lot of classes… The electives [AKA. OPTIONAL CLASSES WHICH YOU SHOULD SELECT TWO OF] that students can choose from are as follows:
Arithmancy: There’s something about the magical property of numbers. Apparently, there is a lot of charts and stuff to memorize…
Care of Magical Creatures: Students learn how to care for, maintain, breed, and properly treat magical creatures. In short, this class sounds amazing. When the trio took this class… they had a quite memorable class involving Hippogriffs.
Ancient Runes: This class involves studying old runes used by witches and wizards hundreds of years ago.
Divination: As Professor McGonagall describes it, Divination is “one of the most imprecise branches of magic.” It involves predicting the future, so that’s understandable. Students learn about various methods for predicting the future including palmistry, crystal balls, cartomancy, and, of course, tea leaves. And, of course, it wasn’t even correct methods to see the future, at least with Trelawney as professor! Oof!
Muggle Studies: This class teaches students about the Muggle world and how to blend in, which seems pretty important.
4th year classes:
…It’s likely that students have the same schedule as their third year, with the option to change their electives.
5th year classes (YEAR OF O.W.L.s!):
In their fifth year, students have to have some idea of what they want to do job-wise. They meet with their Head of House who let them know the requirement for the job they’d like to have. For example, to qualify for Auror training, a student has to get an “Exceeds Expectations” on at least five N.E.W.T. subjects. (Alternatively, you can fight in a battle against the forces of evil, but this probably isn’t the recommended method.) Knowing the N.E.W.T. requirements prepares students for their O.W.L. exams. Their grades on the exams, in turn, determine whether they can take their desired N.E.W.T.-level course the year after.
6th year classes:
The sixth year is the first year that Hogwarts students don’t have a required list of classes. Instead, students sign up for classes they qualify for based on their marks on their O.W.L.s. Professors determine the minimum grade required to take their N.E.W.T.-level class. As long as students meet that requirement, they can elect to continue with the subject. The catch is if you take a subject in your sixth year, you have to take it on your seventh, too.
👏 As a bonus, students are also able to take classes in Apparition for a fee of 12 Galleons AKA. money, I don’t know how much, really. 👏
7th year classes:
In Deathly Hallows… [i]t’s hard to get a clear picture of the curriculum… But what we do know is that students are expected to keep taking classes in the same subjects as their sixth year.
At the end of the year, students can elect to take the N.E.W.T. exam in the subjects they studied, but it’s not required. Some occupations are fine with just a passing O.W.L. grade. According to an interview with J. K. Rowling, there is some kind of graduation ceremony for seventh years that involves riding the boats that initially brought them to Hogwarts.

~ Diagon Alley ~
https://harrypotter.fandom.com/wiki/Diagon_Alley

Ollivanders – the sole wand shop of Diagon Alley; peeling gold letters over the door of the shop read: Ollivanders: Makers of Fine Wands since 382 B.C.; the shop’s display consists of a solitary wand laying on a faded purple cushion in the dusty window; the shop is tiny, empty except for a single, spindly chair in the corner; thousands of narrow boxes containing wands are piled right up to the ceiling of the tiny shop, and the whole place has a thin layer of dust about it

BACKGROUND INFO, NOT VERY IMPORTANT: Location
Diagon Alley is accessible from Muggle London through the Leaky Cauldron, which is on Charing Cross Road, set between a bookshop and a record shop. The Muggles who pass by the inn seem to be “quite unconscious” of its existence. Knockturn Alley, a dark artefacts area, is an off shoot of Diagon Alley, as are the areas of Horizont Alley and Carkitt Market.
The entrance is behind the Leaky Cauldron in a small, walled courtyard with a dustbin. Diagon Alley can be accessed by tapping the correct brick in the wall behind the Leaky Cauldron (from the trash can, three up and two across). The wall goes in a small hole first but forms a large archway. It can also be accessed by Floo Powder and Apparition. There may be other entrances as well.
Diagon Alley connects to a second, less reputable shopping district, Knockturn Alley.

( I’m not sure who wrote this:
From the shops and the street vendors one can purchase (strange and suspicious) things, shrunken heads, poisonous candles, human-looking fingernails, and Flesh-Eating Slug Repellent.
A vanishing cabinet located within one of the shops provided direct access to Hogwarts. The entrance to Knockturn Alley is noted to be gloomy in comparison to that of Diagon Alley. )

[SWIFT NOTE:] Shrieking Shack – an infamous and the most frightening building in Britain; the villagers thought it was haunted but it [was debunked]… Did this get destroyed? I don’t remember. You can roleplay in it in, like, the Forbidden Forest Page, but there won’t be a specific rp page for it.

~ Animagi (I don’t think you can be one if you’re a younger student, and the theory goes that it is SUPER DIFFICULT to become one) ~
I believe this comes from https://screenrant.com/rules-hogwarts-houses-trivia-nonsense/, but I’m not sure:
However, as the skill is incredibly powerful, any student [who] becomes an Animagus must register with the Ministry of Magic or face jail time. The reason for such severe restrictions is because Animagi possess unique abilities that other wizards don’t. One of which is the ability to avoid detection even by wizards and magical beings such as Dementors.

~ Prefects and Head Girls/Boys ~
Prefects can take House points from their own House only and also not from other Prefects. Prefects are fifth, sixth, and seventh year. The Headmaster/Headmistress and Head of House decide the Prefects. There is a female and male Prefect per House. They get badges with a P on them. Prefects patrol the halls, have a special place (like a bathroom, I think) on a floor with the Quidditch captains, patrol the train, stop bad behavior, have meetings, etc. They can also have their honor taken from them if they are abusing it.
Head Boy and Head Girl have powers over Prefects. “At the beginning of the school year the Headmaster (or Headmistress) appoints new prefects, as well as one Head Boy and one Head Girl from all of the seventh year students. These students are chosen because of their academic achievement, outstanding reputation as a student, and an honest, good, and hard-working personality.” -FANDOM website.
“It should be noted that being a prefect is not a prerequisite to being appointed a Head Boy or Head Girl.” – FANDOM website… There is a Prefects’ carriage on the Hogwarts Express and Head Boy/Girl tell them when they need to patrol the train and Head Boys and Girls have power over prefects. The trophy room contains a list of Head Boys/Girls. They can also use the Prefects’ bathroom.

There is more to know, such as stuff about Quidditch, but I’ll just let that be more up to the roleplayers, and maybe I’ll look up (and copy and paste, like I did for most of this) a couple of things to put on the actual roleplay page for the Quidditch Pitch. 😛
I personally don’t like Quidditch and would just watch the matches instead of taking part, but to each their own. 🙂Can I be a first year Hufflepuff?
~ HOGWARTS HOUSES ~
Note that I am a Ravenclaw, so, whenever I use Ravenclaw House as an example for everybody, that’s why.
May I just note up here that I hate stereotypes such as that Ravenclaws always think before they act or don’t act at all (and, as an annoying website said, do things because they’re on paper instead of what feels right to the Ravenclaws; WRONG, WRONG, WRONG IN MANY CASES!!!) and are introverted bookworms, or that Gryffindors are arrogant or reckless, or that Hufflepuffs are HAPPY!!! and friendly and stupid (WRONG MOST OF THE TIME) and lazy (I MEAN, ONE OF THEIR VALUES IS BEING HARD-WORKING), or that Slytherins are selfish (NOT ALWAYS) and emo?! These may be the cases at times, or often. But please, please, please DO NOT make assumptions based on peoples’ Hogwarts Houses. Please and thank you!! Members of the same Hogwarts House are ONLY related to one another in that they all value and embody the same traits that are used to describe said House, nothing more. I hate websites (and most Hogwarts House quizzes) that tell you, for example…: “Oh, Ravenclaws are this… Ravenclaws think this way…” Like, no. I found a website that told me I was Gryffindor Primary AND Gryffindor Secondary (whatever that meant), and made these false assumptions about Ravenclaw House that were NOTHING LIKE ME and were awful in my opinion (and I agreed with the Gryffindor stuff, but that’s only because I have many Gryffindor tendencies, and doesn’t make me a pure Gryffindor at heart, and, remember, they were making assumptions that may be false on many occasions), even though literally the one and only, much simpler way that you can be in Ravenclaw House is if you value and embody certain traits, which the website forgot about. That’s all you need. You can’t assume things about an entire group of people. The people who created the website did research from the books, but those are also book characters, not real people. The people who made the website weren’t as smart as they thought they were. (Let me note that the point of mentioning Gryffindor so much was because of the website’s incorrect assumptions about the Houses and saying that I am one, and I’m not saying anything bad about Gryffindor; on the contrary, I am defending all of the Houses, and I love Gryffindor and all of the Houses pretty much equally.) But, with this in mind for the roleplay, I digress, and will end my rant here.
Guys, don’t trust the Hogwarts House quizzes. Seriously. (Especially not the official one on Wizarding World, which tells me I am a Hufflepuff or a Gryffindor, because IT is more terribly inaccurate than many purely fanmade quizzes!) Just do them for fun. You ultimately just have to figure it out for yourselves and/or for your character(s).
And remember, from Dumbledore: “It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”
And so, without further ado, here they are(!!!!):

tbh this is one of the most accurate and well rounded depictions of the houses i’ve seen 😛
😀 Why, thank you so much!! I don’t know why, but I honestly feel honored. ( I mean, it makes sense; I don’t know what other people think sometimes… 😛 )
haha no problem 😛 i’m but a harry potter fan who is tired of one dimensional descriptions of each of the houses, so it was fun to read 😛
Can I be a first year Hufflepuff?
