WRITING CONTEST
The challenge is to write a short story about the cat you defend most; write the story so it’s defending that character, but not like an article. For example, Goosefeather’s Curse would count as a defense story for Goosefeather! First place winner will get a drawing of their purrsona, a story about their favorite non-canon ship, and a secret page with a image of something they like! Good luck!! I can’t wait to see the awesome stories you write!! 😀 Please let me know if you have any questions!
Jessy stared at Frankie- no, Stormpaw- as he trained to be a Warrior, a feeling of longing creeping into her chest as she tried to be excited for her friend.
She wished she could be training with him -she didn’t deny that. She couldn’t deny that when Frankie was about to ask if he could join ThunderClan, and invited her to ask too, she’d almost said yes.
And yet something about her presence here didn’t feel right, so she’d declined.
Jessy let her gaze travel to Stormpaw’s mentor Squirrelflight.
The ginger she-cat was patiently and energetically explaining the Warrior Code to Jessy’s friend. And yet as she glanced towards Bramblestar her green eyes filled with pain.
A pain that only increased as she turned to look at Jessy.
I hurt Squirrelflight… Jessy’s heart pounded with the realization as she quickly dropped her gaze. Her claws tore at the muddy ground with guilt and frustration as she remembered how Bramblestar had ignored Squirrelflight to be with her instead. And she hadn’t confronted him about it… what could she have done? At first she didn’t give it much thought- a leader and deputy not spending much time together. But last night when she’d helped Leafpool sort herbs, she found out from the medicine cat that their relationship had been something much more important.
Am I bad? The thought made her eyes widen and for a moment she felt like a helpless kit again, having broken her housefolk’s vase while practicing climbing. But she shook the feeling away, knowing she had to stop blaming herself for something she hadn’t intended and instead go fix this.
If her presence made Bramblestar unknowingly hurt Squirrelflight- then she knew what she had to do.
She slipped through the warriors to Bramblestar, every step feeling like she was trudging through mud, partially because of the apprehension she felt, and partially because, well… she was walking through mud.
Jessy invited him on a walk, hoping to speak with him without Squirrelflight seeing them together, as she knew no matter how much the ginger deputy tried to hide it it hurt her deeply.
As they walked towards the lake she pretended she were on patrol, relishing her last taste of ThunderClan.
Then she looked out towards the lake and went through with her decision.
“If I stay, you-” she practically forced the words out “You might not follow where your heart truly lies.”
“I could have loved you,” his words sent a shiver across her fur. Me, too.
“I know.” Her voice was barely audible.
Come on, Jessy, don’t start crying now! She urged herself, pushing down the lump that welled up in her throat.
“But you already love Squirrelflight. As you should.” Despite the pain a sort of peace flowed into Jessy’s heart as she admitted what was truly best for her beloved Bramblestar. “For she is the mother of your kits.”
She looked out towards the lake, silencing Bramblestar with a flick of her tail as he began to protest. Those kits were his family shared blood or not- Bramblestar should know that as well as anyone!
“I know they weren’t born to you.” she mewed patiently, “But you are their father, just as Squirrelflight is their mother.”
Looking out at the shining lake, Jessy allowed the memories to take over, almost sweeping her into the water as she dreamed to relive each second of it.
“..Not even washed away in a storm.”
She finished, her eyes watering, and took a deep breath, preparing herself for the journey that would tear at her heart… Picturing Bramblestar with his real mate, and the smile on her face in attempt to ease the throbbing pain that came with each step.
I love it! The emotion is so good, and Jessy is so selfless and kind <3

The prompt was super creative- I really enjoyed working on Honeyfern!🍯🌿😊The details were especially interesting to come up with- I had a lot of fun with the bee pupils, the honeycomb for her snakebite scar, and the sticky pawprint! 😀
