  • Thunderstar heard screeching. He ran to the medicine cat den. Fernpaw was awake and panting. He knew what that was about. He had a terrible dream about death and killing. He caught her eye and beckoned her with his tail. Ravenwing came padding to him also. “We will not tell the Clan!” He said immediately, not even confirming that they had the same dream. “We know something is going to happen. Probably it has something to do with Echomist.”

  • But Ravenwing and Fernpaw did not think so. Before they could voice their doubts, they heard a call. “Ravenwing! The kits are coming!” Ravenwing flicked her tail, “Come on, Fernpaw!!”

  • “Fernpaw! Are you all right?” Ravenwing asked her, even though she already had the answer. From her screeching, flailing, and her wide eyes, Ravenwing could tell Fernpaw knew something bad was going to happen. Ravenwing pushed juniper berries and poppy seeds in front of her, and Fernpaw ate them gratefully. Ravenwing was just about to lay down for a nap when someone started screeching. Ravenwing bolted out to see Crowlight kitting. She rushed over and *I don’t like reading birth scenes so make your own* helped Crowlight kit 2 she-cats and a tom. “I am going to name the red tom Copperkit, the tortoiseshell she-kit Deerkit, and the orange she-kit Cherrykit.”

  • Sunshadow padded into camp with a vole in her jaws, in time to hear Fernpaw’s terrified screech. She ignored it, as she bitterly thought, 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦’𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘩𝘦𝘤𝘺 𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘥𝘭𝘦, 𝘰𝘳 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨. She laid the vole on the fresh-kill pile, then went to her den. She closed her eyes, trying to relax, and opened her eyes to find the same familiar, dark forest waiting for her. A spotted cat slinked out of the shadows. “You’re late.” she snapped. Sunshadow met her gaze, cold and serious. “I had to hunt for my clan, Mapleshade. If I didn’t, then the Clan would think I was disloyal.” Mapleshade sighed. “Fine. Now let’s start training.”

  • Storm padded through the Dark Forest waiting for Hawkfrost to come and get her, she had been here many times and knew what the ‘Warriors’ here wanted her for. She did not care why she was here, she would train here and in return for them training her to fight and hunt she would be loyal. She couldn’t wait to show Hawkfrost how much she had practiced and learned during the day. She also felt bad for Sunshadow a clan cat who was also training here, because she had to pretend that she was still loyal, and was a constant threat to the secrecy of their training.

  • Mapleshade drew a line in the dry soil. “Try and run past me,” she said. “And show no mercy!” Sunshadow tried to feign that she was heading towards the right, then darted to the right. Mapleshade didn’t fall for the trick, though, and sliced Sunshadow’s cheek. ‘Too slow!” she snarled. ‘Try again.” Cheek stinging, Sunshadow stepped back and debated to herself what move she should use.
𝘔𝘢𝘺𝘣𝘦 𝘐 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘤𝘬 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦… She re-attempted to fool Mapleshade, then pushed her over from the side. As Mapleshade recovered, shaking her mangy pelt, Sunshadow had already crossed the line. “Pretty, good,” Mapleshade said reluctantly. As Sunshadow caught her breath, Mapleshade told her, “I’m going to take you to another cat, who is also training here. I want you to work together and fight.” Sunshadow pricked her ears. “Is it a clan cat?” she asked. Mapleshade grumbled, “Get your tail moving,” and started walking. Sunshadow scurried to catch up with her.

  • Fernpaw narrowed her eyes in thought. She knew for sure that thought the kits were born strong and healthy, they were born way before the estimated time. She knew that she should be happy, but something was off. Maybe it was an omen? Fernpaw was not sure. She hurried off to Ravenwing to explain what she was thinking about. During her time as an apprentice, the two had developed a strong bond of trust. Ravenwing nodded and ran to Thunderstar’s den with Fernpaw close behind her.

    • Fernpaw gasped. What? Ravenwing mewed. What if… the kit problem meant something is coming from within you, something coming so soon that you can not handle it. Fernpaw cried. Ravenwing pushed through the lichen into the leaders den and yelled, loudly, THUNDERSTAR WE HAVE AN OMEN! Thunderstar turned to her and exclaimed, WHAT?! (Oops maybe a bit too much capitalizing…)

    • Sorry, what I meant in the comment is “though the kits are strong and healthy” not “thought the kits are strong and healthy”

  • Storm had finally found Hawkfrost but there had been no time to show off her moves he’d told her that they were going to meet up with Mapleshade and Sunshadow who was her apprentice. He had also told her she was going to try and sneak up on him before he even knew she was there, so he could test his reflexes in battle. She thought about what moves she should use on him to get him confused, she thought maybe she should sneak up behind him then bite his tail then as he turned move with him so he couldn’t see her. Hawkfrost nudged her “Ok.” he said “Go ahead and try to find a good place to hide I’ll be watching, remember to be silent and show no mercy this is the Dark Forest not some kittypet training ground. Now, go.” Storm padded over to the bushes that were dead and barely sheltered the hollow she pushed her way into them and crouched down waiting for Sunshadow to arrive at her ambush.

  • Sunshadow and Mapleshade emerged where the training area was. “We have to wait,” Mapleshade murmured. “Hawkfrost and his apprentice are training, and it might take a while before they get here.” Sunshadow found a dry patch of grass to rest on and started grooming her pelt, hearing occasional screeches and yowls in the forest. Mapleshade paced back and forth, mumbling to herself. “What are we going to do, Mapleshade?” asked Sunshadow as she groomed her ears. “You and Storm are going to try and battle me and Hawkfrost, so you know how it feels like to work together.” 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘮? Sunshadow thought.𝘐𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘶𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘦? Mapleshade sat down heavily. “You don’t always have to fight by yourself.” Mapleshade waited until a sharp yowl pierced the air. “That’s the signal. Go to Storm.” Sunshadow padded into the shadowy forest, tasting for scent until finding the familiar scent of Storm. She followed the scent trail until seeing Storm’s familiar black pelt. “Hey,” Sunshadow whispered.

  • Fernpaw yelped and ran out of the den. Ravenwing suddenly realized that she had made the wrong move- Fernpaw was really shy. Sighing, she explained everything to Thunderstar.

  • Thunderblaze listened to the medicene cats, nodded and went to his den. He felt tired. He yawned, and fell asleep. When he woke up, he was in a dark forest. He heard screeches, this was the Dark Forest. He padded through the wet ferns, and twisted trees, and came apon Sunshadow, and a different rouge he never seen before. He jumped into the clearing. “SUNSHADOW!”He yowled, and stalked up to the warrior. “I don’t know what your doing here, but you shouldn’t be here!” Then he noticed Mapleshade padding towards him, growling softly. He looked at Sunshadow. They both knew that there was going t be trouble. For Mapleshade. Nobody had ever bested him in combat.

  • Suddenly, Fernpaw was at his side. Bewildered, Fernpaw she asked, “Hello Sunshadow! Do you know where we are?” Sunshadow said nothing but just glared at her. Drawing herself up, Fernpaw yelled, “SUNSHADOW! You are my best friend! One of the only cats who believed my dreams! How can you betray me like this?!” Fernpaw’s usually gentle eyes were filled with anger, mistrust, and most of all hate. A voice ruffled her ear, “We are protected by StarClan. They can’t harm us. It’s ok.” It was Ravenwing.
