A new tavern! Take a look around and make yourself cosy!
This is the place for off-topic chat, sharing, and hanging out!
You can find our old Tavern here.

Note: BlogTeam discourages making short, spammy comments in quick succession, as this can make Tavern pages go past really quickly. Commenting for the sole purpose of taking over the purrs or just because can cause other comments to get buried. However, we still encourage you to share your thoughts and just chat away, of course, but making comments for the sake of making comments is discouraged 🙂
We also encourage people to avoid using special fonts in their display names, because it can cause screen readers (which read all of the text, emojis, and images on the screen out loud) to crash or make things impossible for people to understand (click here for an article about that). Screen readers are used by people with visual impairments and help make things more accessible for them, so let’s all do our part in keeping the blog a place that they can come visit and chat on without issue 🙂
🎵 The quiet trees around you start to shake
Crumbling from the earth
Secrets and shadows threat to wake!
What lurks beyond the darkness
Steps into the light
And now your trapped here
All alone, nowhere to hide
Allthat’s familiar to you
Suddenly feels strange
The calm and steady now marked with scars you can’t explain
The friendly faces now have faded into foes
It went unnoticed
Now it’s all you seem to know
One breath the world turned backwards
Two blinks nothings the same
Memories are frayed and fractured
Can you hold to what remains?
The hunt becomes the hunted
Haunted days and sleepless eyes
What you do cannot be trusted
Buried roots uproot tonight
And you’ll bend and brake and you’ll burn
As the ground claws you down to the dirt
Hid away from the light of the moon
Will you be ready for shifting truths? 🎵
The whole first verse of Shifting Roots (pls tell me if I got anything wrong) I did NOT copy and paste this, I wrote it

If you use something that can lose battery, how much do you let it go down before you plug it in?
I let my ImagineBook go to like 20-15% before charging 😛
Like 6% 😛
Usually 70%, I sometimes let it decrease down to 50% before i charge though. Haven’t seen my gadgets reach 40% or below nowadays haha
1% 😛
I usually start charging it if it’s 20% or lower and I stop it if it’s 80% or higher. 😛
idk depends on my laziness
I let it die before i get up to get a charger-
Or if I’m using it then like 1-2%
Anyone want some book recommendations?
Age range(s) (children’s, middle grade, young adult, adult):
Favorite book(s):
Favorite genre(s):
Least favorite genre(s):
Things you love seeing in books (magic, science, etc):
Things you dislike seeing in books:
Preferred length:
Age range(s) (children’s, middle grade, young adult, adult): YA or Adult works! I read a mix of both
Favorite book(s): Good Omens would be good if it weren’t so verbose I guess but I love love the storyline, Northern Lights (Book 1 of His Dark Materials), Six of Crows, I did enjoy One Of Us Is Lying but it just seemed a bit trashy (and also I found Bronwyn a bit bratty) but it did keep me more immersed than any other book (besides SoC)
Favorite genre(s): Fantasy!
Least favorite genre(s): person-meets-person romance or whatever. I didn’t mind Heartstopper because it actually focused more on personal problems in the first chunk (as well as the romance of course) but I don’t like it when literally the only thing happening is romance and there’s no larger plot
Things you love seeing in books (magic, science, etc): In depth characters, another world or an alternate universe, I do enjoy series, just anything unusual and thought provoking with a deeper message!
Things you dislike seeing in books: Shallow character relationships or books that have nothing going for them except romance
Preferred length: Idm! However, I bought 2666 at a Book Fair because it was cheap and I have not touched it because the length looks terrifying (the blurb seems amazing and it seems like something I should read at some point but goodness it’s so long)
I agree 100% with you about Good Omens! Overall I really liked it but there were some parts that were just a little too wordy.
The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch: a bit like Six of Crows, good character development, (especially if you make it to the second book)
Vita Nostra by Marina Dyachenko and Sergey Dyachenko: A very strange book, kind of a ‘magic school’ trope but everything’s got a more claustrophobic and haunting feel, very thought provoking if a wee bit confusing
Piranesi by Susanna Clarke: a very unique, interesting story that leaves you wondering about the meaning of the resolution, a pretty quick read!
Age range(s) (children’s, middle grade, young adult, adult): Any age range, but YA and/or Adult might be best for me
Favorite book(s): Tailchaser’s Song, Watership Down, A Street Cat Called Bob, Daisy Jones & The Six, Heartstopper, Hitchhiker’s Guide to The Galaxy
Favorite genre(s): Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Non-Fiction, Graphic Novels,
Least favorite genre(s): Horror, Crime Novels,
Things you love seeing in books (magic, science, etc): Music (Fictional music bands like in ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’, books about real life musicians and bands, etc.), Animals, Robots, Nature, Social Commentary (like how some Sci-Fi books critique modern world technology and its effects for example)
Things you dislike seeing in books: Horror elements, Descriptive injury detail, Slow pacing (especially at start of book),
Preferred length: Any will do, but a standard novel length might be preferred as I might be put off by books with a very long length
In the Lives of Puppets by TJ Klune: sci fi with robots, social commentary, a very sweet found family, and vibes that kind of remind me of Heartstopper
Another Good Dog by Cara Sue Achterberg: nonfiction memoir about a lady who’s very dedicated to fostering dogs (I think she has about 50 throughout the course of the book)
The Frugal Wizard’s Handbook for Surviving Medieval England by Brandon Sanderson: fantasy/ sci fi, humor reminds me a bit of the style of the Hitchhiker’s Guide
so glad you’re doing this again flam 😛
adult
fahrenheit 451, jurassic park, and edgar allen poe horror stories 😀
(psychological) horror, thriller
romance
science 😛 also just in general i like seeing animals (that is if they don’t die or get injured because if that happens i will stop reading the book >:( /hj /lh)
romance again
i like longer stories but any length is fine if it’s good!
No problem, it’s always very fun! I do worry though that I end up recommending the same books over and over again to the same people 😛
Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant: I feel like I’ve already recommended this before but it’s like Jurassic park but with carnivorous mermaids, and all the characters are some kind of scientist, genre is sci fi/ horror
All the Dangerous Things by Stacy Williams:
psychological thriller/mystery, about a woman’s search for her lost son, while struggling against her extreme insomnia and scrutiny from those around her
The Shining by Stephen King: a guy and his family go on a relaxing winter vacation to an entirely safe and not at all haunted hotel (the sequel, Doctor Sleep, is also pretty good!)
Age range(s) (children’s, middle grade, young adult, adult): middle grade/young adult
Favorite book(s): Nevermoor (my ultimate fav, it’s just sooo good go read it right now!!!), Harry Potter, Kotlc, Percy Jackson, Wof, Skyhunter, etc
Favorite genre(s): fantasy, mystery, action, horror
Least favorite genre(s): heavy romance
Things you love seeing in books (magic, science, etc): magic, mystical creatures, creative worldbuilding, unique characters
Things you dislike seeing in books: unsatisfying endings
Preferred length: 300-600 pages
Thank you!!
Ms. Perrgrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs – spooky ya fantasy with magical people and creatures
The Screaming Staircase by Jonathan Stroud – spooky ya/middle grade fantasy mystery hybrid about a group of children who investigate hauntings
Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger – a mystery with a magical realism backdrop, ya, a girl investigates her cousin’s murder
Age range(s) (children’s, middle grade, young adult, adult): Middle grade/young adult
Favorite book(s): Darkwing (yes that is a real book ahaha), KotLC, WoF, Warriors, Fablehaven, Thue Giver
Favorite genre(s): Fantasy and sci-fi definitely
Least favorite genre(s): Uhhh maybe horror
Things you love seeing in books (magic, science, etc): Magic 100%
Things you dislike seeing in books: uhhh too much politics and also those hospital scenes
Preferred length: maybe 700 pages ish altho I’m fine with any
The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud – fantasy ya, lots of magic
Skyward by Brandon Sanderson – ya sci fi, lots of good humor, some magic-ish stuff as well
A Song of Wraiths and Ruin by Roseanne A Brown – ya fantasy, magic, interesting world building
no thanks 🙂
👍
Age range(s) (children’s, middle grade, young adult, adult): MIddle grade-young adult
Favorite book(s): KOTLC and Warriors obvi and Ender’s Game and stuff like that
Favorite genre(s): Fantasy is my top! I also like sci-fi a lot
Least favorite genre(s): tons of romance
Things you love seeing in books (magic, science, etc): Magic stuff >:)
Things you dislike seeing in books: tons of love on first sight stuff, and anticlimactic endings (I nearly cried out of frustration at the end of Ender’s Gamer arggg)
Preferred length: longggggg I’m fine with anything from two hundred to a million 🙂
The Menagerie by Tui T Sutherland – middle grade fantasy, lots of magical creatures
A World Without Heroes by Brandon Mull – Ya/middle grade fantasy, lots of magic, minimal romance
The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson – LONGGGG 😛 fantasy, minimal romance, fantastic world building, good endings
Note: this is technically an adult book, but it’s very clean and mostly listed as adult because it’s long and complex, not because of any inappropriate content
