Backstory (Optional): Andrea Sjenam always had a reckless streak. Her mother would often catch her trying to plat with wolf pups, try on boy clothes, and question her brother relentlessly on the workings of the Fjerdan army. Andrea never wanted to get married. She never wanted to be a tame wife. She didn’t want to be a girl in Fjerda. She didn’t even think she was a girl. Something must have gone wrong. Djel must have labelled her wrong. One day, her mother approached her and told her of a man who wanted to be her husband. Her mother told her they would be married in a month. She’d never even met the man. She didn’t want to be his property. Andrea snapped. So she left. Traveling across the Fjerdan border and into dangerous Ravkan territory, Andrea suddenly realized that she could be whoever she wanted to be. That’s when Andrea Sjenam decided to become Andras Sjenam instead. He didn’t have to abide by Fjerdan rules anymore. He could be whoever he wanted to be. Do whatever he wanted to do. After a few months of trying to figure out what to do with himself now that he had no stable place to stay, Andras met Nikolai and the Sky Raiders. It was a perfect fit.

Backstory (Optional): Marika was practically raised in the Second Army and hasn’t seen her parents since she was small – she barely even remembers them. For as long as she could remember, her only family was the Second Army and her twin sister, Katrine. Marika was extremely loyal to the Second Army and to the Darkling. Why wouldn’t she? They raised her and protected Ravka. She didn’t see a reason why she would ever oppose them. At the age of fifteen, her and her sister were sent out on a mission to track Shu spies that the Second Army believed had come onto Ravkan territory. Before they could find the spies, however, Marika was snatched up by Kerch slavers looking to earn extra coin on a pretty Grisha girl and Marika was never seen again by the Second Army. Marika was dragged onto the slavers’ ship making it’s way across the True Sea. Humiliated by her failure and angry at the Second Army and her sister for letting the slavers take her without a fight, Marika used her powers to sink the ship. About to let herself drown into nothingness after that small victory, the Tidemaker found herself being rescued by a mysterious ship and its even more mysterious captain, Sturmhond. After being told of all of the terrible things the Darkling and the Second Army had done, Marika spent the next year with the Sky Raiders, training for the day she would finally get her revenge on them.

Backstory (Optional): twin sister to Marika Ulnov, Katrine never cared much for anyone but her sister. Sure, she was loyal to the Second Army, but she would go wherever Marika wanted. Terrified by her own Inferni powers, Katrine would have preferred to have the cool, calming waves of a Tidemaker’s powers. Because of this fear, Katrine never really gained control of her fire. The only reason why she ever came on the mission that took her sister was because Marika wanted to go. And wherever Marika went, Katrine would follow. Then Marika was taken. Katrine was sure the slavers would kill her. Devastated and enraged by her sister’s supposed-death, Katrine exploded with fire. She burned the city they were stationed in, the docks the slaver’s ship had left on, and the fellow Grisha on the mission. Alina Starkov found Katrine huddled in a ball in the middle of the black stain of earth that used to be the town. Katrine was taken back to the Second Army and received twenty lashings on her back for insubordination and misuse of power – but they let her stay in the Second Army. After that, Katrine learned to control her fire. She learned to control her emotions. She became one of the most ruthless fighters in the Second Army, determined to avenge her sister.
