Part one-Springstar

“The patrol never came back! Springstar, Specklefur and Wolfpaw are missing!”
Springstar laughed at Lionpaw’s desperate mew that rang throughout the treetops. But what was more funny, she thought, was Wolfpaw’s slight flicker of hope. Her deputy, Specklefur, had her pinned against a tree. Wolfpaw had no chance of escape.
“Why are you doing this?” She asked, struggling. But her week of starvation and isolation had left her weak, and, Springstar thought, driven her insane. Yes, that was quite a wild glint in her ragged fur. Now nobody could suspect anyone else as a traitor. She smiled manically.
“I have my reasons.” Springstar paused. “Reasons that I would… rather not share.”
“I’ll tell them!” Wolfpaw hissed. “I’ll tell SpringClan! You’ll regret this.”
“Oh, will you now?” This puny apprentice! Thinks she’s something special.”And who do you think they’ll believe? Their noble, brave leader and her just as heroic deputy, or you? A half-mad apprentice whom they think is a traitor?”
“Lionpaw’ll believe me.” Wolfpaw insisted desperately. “She’ll-“
“Will she?” Springstar scoffed. “Or does she prefer that… Hazelpaw?”
Wolfpaw fell silent. Springstar purred, knowing she’d hit a sore spot. “Release her, Specklefur.” She commanded. Specklefur nodded and Wolfpaw fell to a crumpled heap. She made no attempt to escape.
