Foxstalker yawned and stretched, moonlight dappling her pelt. At this time, she usually went hunting in RiverClan, or what used to be RiverClan. Fish wasn’t that good, with its slimy texture, and she was sure other cats thought so too, but it was the best source of food. She reached the moor and looked around. This was the hardest part of the journey, as she could be easily seen. She sighed when she reached RiverClan. Foxstalker started collecting fish and putting it into a Twoleg bag that she’s found on one of her rummages in Twolegplace.
(I’m going to use Thistlestorm as the aggressive Deputy)
Thistlestorm-
Thistlestorm scowled looking at her pitiful Clan. How did Greystar let it get like this? she thought. Thistlestorm stood and stretched, she would make this clan great again no matter what it took, and the clan better start respecting her because Greystar was as well as dead anyways.
Crevicepine –
From the elders den, Crevicepine lifted her head. What was that smell ? ShadowClan. Walking up to Thistlestorm, her tail flicking from side to side, she hissed at him
“Can’t you see them ! They’re everywhere, they’re going to come into camp and kill us all. Why aren’t you doing anything.”
SHe began to pace across camp, aggravated
Poolpaw stretched in the apprentices den, hissing when the brambles scraped her back. “It won’t be long when I’m going to sleep in the warriors den” she thought ruefully. She slid out, and sat neatly by the remains of the fresh kill pile and waited for her mentor.
Goldfinchkit –
The little kitten rushed up to Poolpaw after hearing that he was going out of camp
“Poolpaw can I come and look for bedding with you ? Pleeeeeaaasseeeeee.”
Blossompaw wriggled in her sleep. Flashes of the badger filled her vision, raking her belly with no mercy. Blossompaw gasped & woke up with a shake.
She had a nightmare about it, again.
She rose to her paws & walked over to Poolpaw, who was waiting for her mentor. “Hey Poolpaw.” Blossompaw mewed, shaking her fur & pushing the cruel memories behind her.
Dandelionpaw –
Seeing Blosssompaw wake up from what looked like yet another nightmare, she stood up, shaking the moss of for of her pelt and padding quickly over to the other apprentice. Laying her tail gently on her back, Dandelionpaw looked down at her with sympathetic eyes
“It’s ok, you’re just in camp nothing’s going to hurt you now.”
Hearing a call from her mentor at the edge of the den, she gave Blossompaw an apologetic smile and padded out.
Thistlestorm-
Thistlestorm saw Poolpaw and Blossompaw waiting by the fresh kill pile. “Gorserunner! Take Blossompaw and Dandelionpaw hunting!” she called over to him. “Poolpaw, you’ve been hunting the past few days, I want you to go collect some extra bedding.”
Gorserunner-
When he heard Thistlestorm call he walked to the Apprentices den, “Dandelionpaw, get up we’re going hunting!” he called then stood outside waiting.
Dandelionpaw –
Walking out of the den and blinking as the light flooded into her eyes, making her squint, Dandelionpaw yawned and went to stand besides her mentor Gorserunner. It was strange, being mentored by a former WindClan cat, and it did mean Dandelionpaw had the advantage when catching faster prey over other apprentices
“Where are we going today ?”
Besides a few of the other apprentices, Gorserunner was one of the only cats who Dandelionpaw felt comfortable talking to
Everlight and Redleaf shared a rabbit that Everlight had caught moments ago. They were huddled in the Moonpool cave, hiding from any warriors that might be wandering the edges of the lake territories. Ever since the medicine cats had lost connection with StarClan, no cat had been to the Moonpool except for the two of them. They’d quickly discovered that it was a good place to get away from the constant border battles with the ShadowClan savages and the worries of the weakening ThunderClan. They often ate here while out on a hunting patrol of two. They always brought something back to the clan, of course, but they didn’t like eating from the fresh-kill pile, as it was typically full of fish from what used to be RiverClan’s territory.
After they finished the rabbit, Everlight quietly buried the bones behind the cave. Then the two of them brushed through a patch of mint to get the scent of rabbit off of them. The two set off back towards ThunderClan’s camp. Redleaf dug up the mice she’d caught, and as they got closer to the camp, Everlight dug up the blackbird he’d managed to catch as well. When they entered the camp, they dropped the mice and backbird into the fresh-kill pile. Then they slunk to the warriors den, hoping to avoid being noticed by the deputy, Thistlestorm.
[Thistlestorm can by all means notice them. They’re young warriors who’ve been gone since the previous sunset]
Thistlestorm-
She growled as she watched Everlight and Redleaf try to slink past her. “Where have you two been?” she didn’t give them time to answer, “Tomorrow, I want both of you back by sun high, no later, with as much as fresh kill as you can find, or I will willingly give you both to those Shadowclan mange-pelts!” she growled and stalked away. Thistlestorm hopped up the rocks to Greystar’s den. When she walked in the den smelled sour with sickness, Thistlestorm backed out quickly, not wanting to catch whatever sickness Greystar had.
Everlight and Redleaf exchanged a glance. Even with the extended territory, prey was hard to get. To catch as much as they could carry (which was quite a bit, and Thistlestorm knew it), would take them part of the night as well if they wanted to be back by sunhigh. Everlight sighed. “We’d better get some sleep. We’ll have to wake up early tomorrow.”
Redleaf smiled. “At least he didn’t forbid us to go hunting together.”
“Shhhhh,” Everlight hissed. “Don’t give him the idea!” The two young warriors laughed quietly as they slipped into the warriors’ den.
Blossompaw padded towards Gorserunner & Dandelionpaw, her eyes glowing. “Are we going hunting?” She asked.
Gorserunner-
He nodded to Blossompaw and answered Dandelionpaw, “We’re going to go to the moor.” Gorserunner held back a whimper as he thought of his old home. Trying not to show his sadness he headed out of the gorse tunnel, beckoning his tail for the two apprentices to follow.
Blossompaw followed the two out into the forest with a smile at the beautiful forest. Tasting the air, she caught scent of a mouse.
Dropping into the hunter’s crouch, she spotted it at the roots of a birch tree.
Curling her tail, she slid her paws across the forest floor towards the mouse. Then, wiggling her haunches, she leapt after the prey, chasing it through a hawthorn bush.
She sprang in the air towards it, capturing it in her paws & biting its throat.
Carrying her prey, she padded back to where Gorserunner & Dandelionpaw were.
Gorserunner-
“Great catch.” he praised. He opened his mouth to catch a scent of prey and caught the infectious tang of Shadowclan. “Stay close to me.” he ordered the apprentices. Gorserunner checked to see if the scent was stale and decided it was okay to keep hunting. “Keep hunting, but be cautious. No hero acts, if you see a Shadowclan patrol come straight to me. Understand?”
Poolpaw smiled at the kit. “Maybe you can help keep the other kits busy!” She said. “But first have some breakfast.” She went over to the elders den and began ripping up the bedding. She watched the kits scuffle and felt a pang of grief. “I wish my siblings could be here.” She thought. Olanderkit and Oakkit had died on a raid from shadowclan, along with their mother, the previous leader Mallowstar. “And why is thistlestorm always mad at me?”
Foxstalker padded into camp and dumped the fish next to the fresh kill pile. Then she padded back out in search of actual good food. Foxstalker breathed in the clean air. Camp smelled like fish.
Coming back to reality from her thoughts, Foxstalker pounced on a mouse and killed it.
