Here’s a book that some of you might enjoy: The Cat Who Saved Books by SΓ΄suke Natsukawa. A high school boy, Rintaro Natsuki, lived with his grandfather, who owned a used bookstore. But his grandfather has died and it looks like the store will close and he’ll have to go live with his aunt in another city. Then a magical talking cat appears, opens a portal in the back of the store, and drafts Rintaro to go on missions to save booksβnot individual books but books en masseβ in other strange worlds.
Iβve read that! I enjoyed it a fair bit- have you read the Travelling Cat Chronicles? Itβs also translated from Japanese but I actually enjoyed it even more than the cat who saved books!
I haven’t but I’ll check that out.
i love that book <3
That sounds sooo cool!!
the page flipped sooo
I just got the first Guardian Herd book! The Guardian Herd seem prtty popular on the Bloggo, + the blurb mention Warriors, Guardians Of Ga’Hoole, and Wings Of Fire, all three of which I absolutely adore! Also, i noticed that there are warrior cat style names in it… im pretty sure the structure of how the characters are named work totally different though….
I’ve read the whole Guardian Herd series! It was a lot like warriors, but I found it a little less exciting. I had to push through the last few books because I hate not finishing a book or series, even if I don’t like it. I did like some of the storyline, though:)
It was more violent than I expected but Warriors is full of it so I shouldn’t complain there. I hope you like it the rest of it!
Nice! I have read a lot of Warriors fanfics which are much more violent then the real thing soooo i think i’ve got it LOL
how dare you not like The Guardian herd :< /jk
Ohno im not saying that!
She was replying to Sandbreeze!
Nice! That series sounds great!!!
Iβm reading the second Scooby Doo Batman comic and itβs pretty great. I love it. Iβm also still reading the second Kane Chronicles and The Firm. I do say 15+ for the Firm. Itβs a hard read and thereβs some sexual content though no worse than whatβs in some YA novels. Iβm also reading the second Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Man, Iβm reading lots of book number 2s right now. π
oh kane chronicles!!! i was looking to reread that recently as well :DD
Kane Chronicles are probably the only reason I understood my ancient Egypt unit in History, and I only read one bookπ
Oooh my older brother made me read some of Kane Chronicles! It wasnβt entirely my cup of tea but the books really are very well written π and a diary of a wimpy kidβ¦ oh my gosh, I love those books.
Awesome! I love diary of a wimpy kid!!
I suggest Kindred and Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler!! Definitely has some sexual stuff and some bad stuff like slavery, abuse, and death so maybe 14+ (though I did read these at 12 years old but I can handle it so if you’re mature enough go ahead ig but I’m warning you :p)
Kindred: Woman time travels to save her great-great-great-(etc.) grandfather from the late 1800’s, but has to face slavery and yeah very sad π
Parable of the Sower: A time late in the future (okay, yeah, it was 2024 and up, but it was written in the late 1900’s :p) where everything is very dystopian-like and there is poverty and hunger, and one woman has to overcome the greif of losing her whole family to create a new community elsewhere and yeah also very sad but very good book.
lol sorry that it’s so long but yeah π
i read both of these, can confirm they’re very good!!! lots of complex themes and references to history if you’re interested in that c:
Is there a better one to start with first if I’m interested in the author?
i personally read parable first – it deals more with the future, but you can see the consequences of things that happened in the past, and it’s more about one character finding her own path out of the rubble of her family and world’s destruction; kindred i feel is more about learning about your past and finding out how to honor that in the present!
Yup I started with Parable as well, it’s a good place to get into Octavia’s books c:
Those both sound amazing!!! I’ll give them a try once I’m done reading the books I have rn π
Book Recomendation: School for Good and Evil. It is so good, but only if you like fiction, but still an amazing book!
Thatβs an excellent series! My rating would be apprentice or above though, itβs a little dark for kits from what I can remember.
Yeah definitely π
I watched the movie! And i read the fourth and fifth books without realized they were the fourth and fifth π
That sounds so cool! What’s it about?
Has anybody read The Series of Unfortunate Events? Iβm thinking about trying it. Is it pretty dark?
Iβve watched it! It can get pretty gruesome, I wonβt name actual things thatβve happened but the name does not lie, itβs pretty much a series of unfortunate events. Itβs a good show though, so Iβd think itβs a good book series too! Worth it for me.
Yes!! It’s a really good series!
IT’S SOOOOOO GOOD!! I had to read the first book in English, and it was a really fun read! If you have a hard time with death and sad things happening to children, I wouldn’t recommend it. Each book has thirteen chapters, so if you would like something longer, I would recommend the TV show, because it’s very accurate and has a bit more humor in the beginning.π
yes, it’s amazing! it is a bit dark, but I was able to read it when I was ten, so I wouldn’t say it’s too bad.
I’ve watched part of the tv show and the movie! It’s amazing!
I haven’t read the book, but I did watch the series a long time ago! I don’t even remember what it was about π
Has everyone read Permanent Record? It should be required reading to use the Internet.
I’ve read it and I completely agree.
π«‘
No, what’s it about?
Has anyone read Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children? I was bored and watched the movie the other day, and I absolutely adored it. I only just figured out that it was from a book π If you’ve read it, was it good and how does it compare to the movie (if you’ve watched that too)?
I haven’t read it, but nice!
I’ve read the book! I don’t remember too much except that it was a bit disturbing
Has anybody read The Ghost Book? It’s a really good book, and it’s a graphic novel. here’s le blurb: July Chen sees ghosts. But her dad insists they aren’t real. So she pretends they don’t exist. Which is incredibly hard now, as it’s Hungry Ghost month, where the gates of the overworld open and dangerous ghosts run amok in the living world. When July saves a boy ghost (sadly, there is no romance π ) from being devoured by a Hungry Ghost, he becomes her first ever friend. Except William isn’t a ghost. He is a wandering soul between life and death. As the new friends embark on an adventure to return William to his body, they unearth a ghastly truth – For William to live, July must die.
(that took forever to type oml-)
That sounds so good :0 I’ll add it to my tbr list!!
Why do I, a young adult in my mid-twenties, still read (and laugh at and like) books that are meant for 2nd-3rd graders? I am starting the fourth Junie B Jones. I love her books, but I do question the appropriateness for young kidsβ¦ She calls things stupid and dumb and stuff. She also calls people dumb a lot. π
Junie B Jones sounds interesting π
If it’s OK for me to read Warriors in my 70s, I guess it’s OK for you to read 2nd grade books in your 20s, though I might be concerned if that was all you read.
Don’t worry, I still like My Little Pony and I’m twelveπ
I still like MLP and I’m an adult π Like what you like, that’s totally okay! And if anyone gives you any flak for it, just say that adults are the ones behind those creations anyway π
I have an attachment to Bluey, you are not alone. ππ
I recently finished the Scythe series! π
If you’ve read it, what are your thoughts on it?
That series is absolutley amazing! I just love how the book talks about the “reapers”, and in a way about deep topics, such as how the Scythes sometimes have empathy for the people they “glean”, and even how there are different attitudes towards “gleaning”. It really has a deep meaning and theme that is so meaninful and sweet. What do you think about it?
I loved the series as well! It made you think really hard about certain topics, for example how when everyone was immortal they had no reason to do anything with their life, but a scythe showing up would change their view completely. I really like the type of books that really make you intrigued about it afterwards. :))
I knoww right! Amazing series!! <33
any recommendations for a 14 year old that likes mystery and action?
Iβm planning to go to the library with my mom tomorrow (or should I say today? Itβs 12:07am here) and Iβm debating which books I should try and get! Hereβs the list of books Iβm aiming for already:
– The Cruel Prince (Folk Of the Air) (thanks for the recommendation Silvs it sounds amazing)
– Wind (Warriors)
– The Count Of Monte Christo
– Voice of Power (The Spoken Mage)
– Obscuro (The Illuminae Files)
– The Fire Eternal (The Last Dragon Chronicles)
– The Testing
– Eragon (The Inheritance Cycle)
Any other recommendations? I like any kind of fantasy, science-fiction and sometimes romance when itβs done right! I read mostly Y/A books, and Iβm fine with swearing/gore :))
read da testing! it’s great! I would recommend the Inheritance games, but it’s not sci-fi or fantasy
