So my tbr list has been steadily growing, but it’s never enough, so does anybody know any good, fast-paced mysteries? I loved The Inheritance Games, Little White Lies, and A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. I’m ok with romance but I’d prefer to keep the spice to a minimum. Nothing worse than The Cruel Prince series. I’m fine with any amount of blood and gore. And if it’s ages 13-15 that would be great 😀
ooh, read the Young Sherlock Holmes series! I think you’d like it!
I just read Ace of Spades, which is a great mystery! There isn’t any gore, but it does get super intense. Another one (more of a thriller) called With Malice, is also extremely good and fast paced.
Closed For The Season by Mary Downing Hahn!!! It’s a thriller and murder mystery book.
– One of Us is Lying series/trilogy: Probably my favourite contemporary mystery thriller book series, the plot is super fun and it’s so hard to put down. There’s a lot of language and some violence, and gets pretty dark and deals with a lot of issues that might be a bit triggering. I haven’t read much of The Cruel Prince and I don’t know if the spice amount is too much, so maybe check it out for yourself. However, it’s a really good book, and deals with high schooler stuff along with the mystery. 13-14+
– We Were Liars: Not sure if this counts as a mystery (kind of a modern psychological mystery horror suspense novel), but I’ll put is her just in case lol. Extremely sad, but really good and super twisty. The writing is kind of in a choppy, broken-up style and very metaphorical, and it’s hard to tell when something is happening present day versus a flashback, but since that’s exactly the kind I like, I loved this book. There’s romance, but nothing too bad as far as I remember (and it’s mostly mentioned, not shown). Again, very, very sad, I wanted to cry after finishing but I couldn’t since my tear ducts hate me :’P. I think most of the characters were a bit bland (except Gat and Mirren, they’re amazing). It really depends on what kind of books you like to read, I personally loved it but it’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea.
I think I wrote too much T-T
Some of my fav books and Why
Warriors, I serously don’t know why, I got the GrAystripe Comic from half price books and I’ve been reading them ever since
Harry Potter, Nice and long and a fantasy book 5stars :p
Wolves of the beyond, a good story for getting me ready to write
Wings of Fire, Dragons
That’s not all of them, just the ones that I remember from the top of my head
(I’ve just relilzed something almost all of them start with W, O:)
repost cuz it went to the end of the last page-
which warrior novels/novellas are the ones you can only read online?
I don’t think there are any. Some of the novellas are only printed in collections, such as Untold Stories, Tales of the Clans, A Warrior’s Path, etc., but I think they’re all in print in some form.
(this might be better for the Ask the Experts page! The BlogClan Bookshelf is for non-Warriors books 🙂)
i did think of that, but i didn’t think of the ask the experts page :p
What is your ultimate favorite book and why? (I have been book hunting lately.. 😛)
I really like Maybe a Fox because its just a sweet book about sisterly love and connection and about family… (even after death) and aghhh its just so sweet. The sisters sacrafice so many things for eachother. it broke my heart several times 💔😭
My ultimate favorite being Legendborn by Tracy Deon. It is a King Arthur retelling, it’s really awesome, and the writing is just amazing. I really recommend reading it.
i love Good Dog by Dan Gemeinhart, im down to read it anytime <3
I don’t think I have an single favorite book, but books I’ve reread repeatedly over the years are Lord of the Rings, the complete Sherlock Holmes canon, The Wind in the Willows, and James Thurber’s My Life and Hard Times.
I am reading this thriller called State of Lies and it’s turning into a Christopher Nolan movie. There’s wormholes. It’s good but a little weird. I’m also reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid 5 and Illuminae Files book one. Illuminae is my favorite of the three. Oh, I’m also reading the third Scooby Doo Batman comic book.
I just finished reading The Travelling Cat Chronicles, which was recommended by Redblaze a couple of pages back. It’s an unusual book. I’m not going to spoil the plot, but it’s a love story between a man and a cat. I shed a few tears before the end.
I’ve started reading that, I think it’s very good so far. A bit confusing but good.
A love story is an interesting way to interpret it! And yeah the ending devastated me when I read it skjdkjsdd
Of course I don’t mean to suggest that there’s anything romantic about it. But it’s clear that Satoru (the human protagonist) loves his cat, Nana, more than any other living being, and Nana returns his love. I think this story is about the kind of simple, unconditional love that we can feel for our pets. It is difficult to achieve this kind of love for another human (though it is certainly worth striving for). Our feelings for our fellow humans tend to be more complicated.
I started the first Dork Diaries and I can’t stand her. I like Wimpy Kid much better.
I just read SUmmer of the Mariposas as a school asignment, AND SHE CAME TO OUR SCHOOL SINCE WE WERE READING IT! LOved it, She said that each of the girls were gonna get their own book, idk what the titles were tho.
That’s super neat!
I’m about 7 chapters into Six of Crows and oh my god… MATTHIAS MENTIONED SEMLOR!! THAT IS JUST AMAZING!!!
I just had to tell someone about that before I exploded 😛
I’m looking for classic book recommendations! As I’m a junior in high school, I’d say that I’m certainly old enough for most of them, so feel free to share.
(By classic books, I’m essentially looking for the kinds of books that schools used to make you read 😛 Things like Shakespeare and Tom Sawyer and all that jazz. It sounds strange, but I’ve actually enjoyed most books that I’ve read in school!)
I think the book I enjoyed reading at school the most was The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde- but definitely look up the context behind it and the author because it makes it much more interesting!
The Lord of The Rings is amazing- maybe not what they’d make you read in school? But it is definitely a classic and has some very interesting context to do with Tolkein’s experience during WW1 behind it.
This isn’t actually that old (only like 20 years) but it is on the GCSE curriculum so I’ll count it :p Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro is a very interesting read. I have mixed feelings about it but the ending destroyed me and it’s very well written. It’s very difficult to explain without spoiling it, but it’s about what makes us human.
I am very fond of the novels of Anthony Trollope (19th century English, contemporary of Dickens). He wrote a huge number of novels. One of the best, IMO, is The Way We Live Now. He wrote two big series novels (six volumes each): The Chronicles of Barsetshire (set among the clergy in a cathedral town and the surrounding county) and The Pallisers (about liberal members of parliament and their families).

I don’t know if it’s a “classic” per se, but I love The Outsiders by S E Hinton. If you haven’t read it, you should. It’s from the 60s so that’s why it’s sort of a classic. Idk. 😅🤷♀️
I’m fond of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, Hamlet, and Macbeth!
I really enjoyed Macbeth!
Who else likes Mary Downing Hahn ghost stories? I am speed reading The Thirteenth Cat right now because I have nothing else to do and I LOVE the storyline so far! Am on chapter 14
I read Took and Wait Till Helen Comes but now I can’t find either of them😭 oops! but anyways i really liked them!
I read those! My favorite of those two is Took.
Hi everyone, I’ve just finished a book that I think quite a few of you would like! It’s called The Will of the Many (by James Islington) and I’d pitch it as The Name of the Wind meets The Hunger Games.
It follows a character called Vis trying to survive in a world ruled by The Hierarchy- an empire built on harvesting the Will (think of it a bit like a piece of the soul/spirit) of those below them in the caste system. He ends up being tasked with infiltrating their academy in order to discover the secrets that they’re hiding. It had a lot of mystery, very cool worldbuilding and very good action sequences! Even if you don’t like the “magic school” trope then I’d still reccommend this- it won’t be what you expect!
Ooh, that sounds really neat! I’ll have to look into it! 😀
Edit: It’s actually already on my tbr, guess it’s getting bumped up in line.
