After a gazillion years, I finally got Blame my Virgo Moon and it’s currently amazing eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
huh, what’s it about?
Walker books says: “Life should be Gucci gooseberry gorgeous for loved-up Cat. And it is … until her über-cool and swoonsome girlfriend, Morgan Delaney, takes on Cat’s friend – and the most powerfully popular influencer in Lambley Common – Siobhan Collingdale, for the hotly contested spot of Head Girl. With her loyalties put to the test, Cat throws herself into the gender-indifferent school production of Romeo and Juliet. (A decision she soon regrets…) As life imitates art, Cat’s left wondering if she (or the school) can survive Collingdale versus Delaney.”
How many of y’all have read A Wish in the Dark (By Christina Soontornvat)? ITS AWESOME GO READ IT NOW IF YOU HAVENT
What’s it about?
OMG YOU’VE READ IT???? I HAVE NEVER MET A SINGLE PERSON WHO’S READ IT AAAAH IT’S SO GOOD AND SO UNDERRATED
Oh, I’ve heard of that one!
Has anyone read The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes? I have to say that it is the best book that I’ve ever read (also have a playlist for it on Spotify). I love the villain backstory arc with ambition, betrayal, and the consequences of love. I 100% recommend it to anyone who loves The Hunger Games!
I have! Great unreliable narrator
I read it and enjoyed it, though not as much as you apparently did. She made Snow a fairly sympathetic character in the beginning, but the problem was, as with any retconned prequel, I knew where the story arc was going: Snow would end up as the ruthless, murderous tyrant he is in the HG, it was only a question of how he would get there.
I think I may be in the minority here, but I never found Snow sympathetic at the start; he was always an unreliable narrator, and I found much of his actions to be internally (but wrongly) justified as “my action was good because I’m a good person and good people do good things” no matter what he did or how he acted, which was very fascinating to read but also very disturbing
I do agree with that. He was always a narcissist-minded person who really always only thought of himself. It’s just always interesting to see where they came from.
Yup I have! And yes! It is awesome. I love how it’s from the point of a villain.
I haven’t read it yet, but I’ll probably read it soon once my library has it available 🙂
I loved the Hunger Games and I do own that book, but I couldn’t really get into it unfortunately B(
I tried, but I couldn’t get into it. I guess it’s just not my cup of tea :PP
What books are y’all reading rn?
I’m reading The Count Of Monte-Cristo, and I just finished The Cruel Prince so now I’m reading Skandar and the Unicorn Thief!
To Kill A Kingdom and Escaping Mr. Rochester
I’m reading Xenophon’s Hellenika (which I wouldn’t recommend to any BlogClanners except Birchy), and an old Charlotte McLeod mystery, The Resurrection Man.
oh yay, you’re reading the count of Monte Cristo! i’m currently reading the second book of the hunger games :3
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Translation Nation, Fate Breaker, Harvest of Empire, and El Arroyo de la Llorana 😭 spanish class made me read half of so many interesting books and I’ve been trying to keep working on them, but as a result I’m having trouble finishing anything.
King of Scars!
fantastic book
Perdido Street Station by China Meiville and The Ruin of Kings by Jenn Lyons!
Just finished Wildwood and currently finishing the Percy Jackson series so I can get started on ASC and maybe a finish a School for Good and Evil
I WAS reading Supernova (Renegades), but I finished it a bit more than half an hour ago in the car, and last night I finished The Toll (Arc of a Scythe) (which I didn’t understand at all but it might’ve been my sleepy brain 😛) so I’m not reading anything now. I’m going to restart rereading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows as soon as I am ready (I just got home from school :P)
heartless by marissa meyer and walk two moons by sharon creech! both of these are very good, but walk two moons has more of a moral and an emotional feel while heartless has a brutal (the good kind of brutal lol) and romantic longing vibe. 🙂
I’m re-reading Children of the Rune: Winterer!
Ssoooooo….
I’m on page 66 of Daughter of the Pirate King
Page 112 of Heroes of Olympus: The Lost Hero (kinda forgot about it)
Some page of Good Girl Bad Blood (Also kind of forgot about that)
Page 36 of Restore Me
And page 42 of the Wicked King (Also forgot about it kinda….)
I’m rereading some old Mandie Collection books that I have, who else has read them? I’d recommend the books for someone 8-13, though I read them when I was 7, lol.
We all know and love the big and popular Percy Jackson series, but what if you want a Greek mythology book with a breathtaking story that will leave you drooling on what comes next? and of course, goofier Greek gods!
Well, if all of the above satisfies you..then I present..
WHO LET THE GODS OUT?
in this Tetralogy, join Elliot Hooper as his normal life gets twisted and turned when a Zodiac constellation lands on his doorstep. From there, he meets the Greek gods, but he just wants a normal life. He just wants a normal mom. (Written by me, praise appreciated 😛)

By the way, all the eBook prices were educated guesses except for book number 1 C:)
Ooh, sounds interesting! I can’t say that I’ll check it out soon, though, because I have a long gotta-read-asap list 😛
Amused to see I’ve become an age rating.
I read a possibly similar book several years ago: Gods Behaving Badly by Marie Phillips, which places the ancient Greek gods in modern London. That has a lot of “adult” (mature) content, but then so does actual Greek mythology.
OMG I READ IT IN FRENCH!
how many times do you re-read books? I probably read them 2-3 times over, except most manga I swear i’ve read over 100 times 😛
I re-read books whenever I feel the need to visit them again! 🙂
I reread books whenever i’m bored (so 24/7)
I don’t usually reread entire books, but I pretty frequently reread my favorite parts of books I really liked.
Same!!
Same!
I’ve read the Odyssey and the Iliad many times. I usually reread those whenever a new translation is published. I just read Emily Wilson’s Odyssey a few months ago. I have probably reread The Lord of the Rings more than any other book. I don’t reread the whole thing anymore, just favorite scenes. I’ve read the complete Sherlock Holmes canon many times. The Wind in the Willows is good comfort reading, especially on cold winter nights. Many books by Daniel Pinkwater, especially Lizard Music and the Snarkout Boys series.
I reread my favorite parts from certain books and very rarely reread the whole thing :p But like you, if it’s manga, I’ll read it many times over :p
Whenever I feel I should read them, like Snowy said!
Whenever I feel like it (happens often with comfort books like Harry Potter, KOTLC, and others that I can’t remember), or I have forgotten some of the plot and want to be reminded again (doesn’t happen often, as I have a very good memory for details and plot and general facts despite my forgetfulness about things like, oh I don’t know, the fact that I had a homework assignment and I have to do it late at night aka right now although I’m half here and half doing it). In general, I usually reread certain scenes and my favourite parts more than the reread whole book. Strangely, I reread mystery, crime, and detective books more than any other, because, in my own words, the first time you just dive in with no clue about anything, the second time you start noticing the obvious details you missed, and the third and later you notice those tiny details that seemed insignificant but at actually big clues towards something, be it a side plot, the plot twist, or anything else (this is just my perception though, it could be different for others).
Whenever I feel like it! 😀 I actually recently just reread two books that I really enjoyed back when I first read them: Almost American Girl and Unpregnant!
I reread books at least 3 times for each book, even more of warriors books
WhiteWhiskers Recommends: Books by Daniel Pinkwater https://pinkwater.com/liost/
Daniel Pinkwater has written over 100 books, ranging from picture books for preschoolers to young adult novels (one of which is actually entitled Young Adult Novel) and even a few for older adults. Pinkwater is now 82, and is probably nearing the end of his writing career, but he has created a body of work that has brought me endless pleasure.
The typical Pinkwater YA book is a blend of science fiction, fantasy, surrealism, and the author’s bizarre sense of humor. An exemplary Pinkwater book is Lizard Music (1976). A boy named Victor is left at home while is parents go on vacation. His older sister, who is supposed to be looking after him, splits the household money with him and goes off on a camping trip with her friends. Victor, who is perfectly able to take care of himself, falls asleep in front of the TV one night and wakes up to see a program with human-sized lizards playing music. Where is the lizard program coming from? The local TV station denies broadcasting it, so Victor sets off to investigate. He takes the bus from the neighborhood where he lives into the nearby city of Hogoboro (a thinly disguised Chicago, where DP grew up), where he meets The Chicken Man, and older African American who goes about with a live chicken under his hat (based on a real Chicago street performer from the 1950s–60s). Together, Victor and the CM set out to solve the mystery of the lizards. I leave the rest for the reader to discover.
Among other Pinkwater books that I love (and often reread) are
Alan Mendelsohn, the Boy from Mars
The Snarkout Boys and the Avocado of Death
The Snarkout Boys and the Baconburg Horror
Young Adults
Borgel
The Hoboken Chicken Emergency
The Worms of Kukumlima
The Neddiad
The Yggysey
Adventures of a Cat Whiskered Girl
Bushman Lives
(the last four are a tetralogy joined by overlapping characters and situations)
…and many more that I can’t remember at the moment.
I wish I could have the pleasure of discovering these stories again for the first time. I wholeheartedly recommend any and all.
Oooh those sound interesting! I’ll have to look into them :]
Yess we definitely needed this page! I love talking about books 😀
Roselet!! I havent seen you in forever :DD
Hi Roselet!!
Hey Roselet!! Yes, me too!! This page is honestly one of my favorite pages on the blog! 😀
Does anyone enjoy reading books my Kate Dicamillo? I haven’t read any of her books for a while but they were some of my favorite books a while ago 🙂 Particularly Flora and Ulysses, The Beatrice Prophecy, Tiger Rising, Because of Winn Dixie, and the tale of despereaux 🙂
My mom bought me some books by her! Not my style but I can appreciate the craft
Because of Winne Dixie was my childhood favourite!
I enjoyed the Tale of Despereaux :))
I’ve read Tiger Rising, Because of Winn Dixie, and the Tale of Despereaux! She’s a very good writer, I really enjoyed her books when I was younger.
Yes, I remember reading and enjoying some of her books such as The Tale of Desperaux and Winn Dixie back in elementary school! She’s a really good writer! 😀
yes! I love all of those books, especially the beatrice prophecy!
Has anyone read Scythe by Neal Shusterman? it’s an amazing dystopian novel and probably has some of the best characters of any book I’ve ever read.
Yes! I really enjoyed them.
Yes, it was a decent book with an interesting premise. 🙂 However, for me, it felt excessively long and boring at a lot of parts. I guess I also sort of had high expectations before reading it since it’s quite a popular book enjoyed by lots of people, but Scythe just didn’t fulfill those expectations. 🙂
I only read Scythe because I didn’t enjoy it enough to feel motivated to read the rest of the series.
Anyone read the Inheritance Games??? My friend keeps telling me I should read it
Yes, it’s very good! I got it recommended by my friend as well and it was a great read
I’ve read the first one! Not my cup of tea but I can see why others enjoy it. If you like mystery + romance, and don’t mind love triangles, then it’s probably worth a shot!
yes, it’s a good book! 😀
Has anyone read Out of My Mind? It’s a really interesting and heartfelt short novel by Sharon M. Draper about a girl with cerebral palsy. It just got a movie coming to Disney+ soon, so I recommend reading it to those who are interested!
I read it a year or so ago! I really enjoyed it, I found the main character very likable which is one of my most important things for a book
I have it on my incredibly long tbr list
