Hey guys! I’ve got three book recommendations for y’all in case you might want to read them. Also I’d like to know if you’ve actually read them! 😀 (I got this idea from everybody who have done this before, you guys are inspiring! 😙)
Number one…
✨Podkin One-ear by Kieran Larwood✨
🪐 Blurb: Podkin is the son of a warrior chieftain. He knows that one day it will be up to him to lead his warren and guard it in times of danger. But for now, he’s quite happy to laze around annoying his older sister Paz, and playing with his baby brother Pook. Then Podkin’s home is brutally attacked, and the young rabbits are forced to flee. The terrifying Gorm are on the rampage, and no one and nowhere is safe. With danger all around them, Podkin must protect his family, uncover his destiny, and attempt to defeat the most horrifying enemy rabbitkind has ever known.
🪐 Genre: Fantasy Fiction, Adventure Fiction
🪐 Book Type: Trilogy (1: The Legend Of Podkin One-ear; 2: The Gift Of Dark Hollow; 3: The Beasts Of Grimheart)
🪐 Age Rating: About 10+ probably, since it contains death, war and emotion rollercoasters
🪐 Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Now, on to a personal favourite of mine…
✨The Wild Robot by Peter Brown✨
🪐 Blurb: Robot Roz’s crate has been washed on to an island full of wildlife. All the animals there think she is a monster, but Roz is a very friendly robot and she does the animals no harm. Eventually, she becomes their friend and she protects them no matter what, and everything seems like it couldn’t be better. But as her creators come searching for her, Roz is forced to come back to the factory to get reprogrammed, or the creators will destroy the island where she was “born” and destroy all life on it.
🪐 Genre: Novel, Science Fiction
🪐 Book Type: Trilogy (1: The Wild Robot; 2: The Wild Robot Escapes; 3: The Wild Robot Protects)
🪐 Age Rating: This one’s an 8+. An eight-year-old could handle this book, but not under, so eight is the youngest limit
🪐 Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Again!)
The last one…
✨His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman✨
🪐 Blurb: Lyra Belacqua is content to run wild among the scholars of Jordan College, with her dæmon (pronounced: demon) familiar always by her side. But the arrival of her fearsome uncle, Lord Asriel, draws her to the heart of a terrible struggle—a struggle born of Gobblers and stolen children, and a mysterious substance known as Dust.
🪐 Genre (And this is A LOT of genres :P): Action, Adventure, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Mystery, Drama, Thriller, Adventure Fiction
🪐 Book Type: Trilogy (1: Northern Lights; 2: The Subtle Knife; 3: The Amber Spyglass)
🪐 Age Rating: Definately 12+ as it contains death, gore, thrills and emotional rollercoasters (if you’re wondering why I’M reading it, is because my mom read it when she was my age and said it was AN ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME :D)
🪐 Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (like 20x that lol 😛 )
Hope you enjoyed! 😀
I don’t know the others, but His Dark Materials are great books.
Jeri recommended His Dark Materials a while back, and I’m definitely thinking of reading it! Asriel just makes me think of UNDERTALE though 😛
The first one sounds just like Green Ember honestly 😛
I think I read The Wild Robot a long time ago, it was really good!
If you’re looking for a good series, I’d read the Wingfeather Saga! It’s a fantasy adventure series that I 100% recommend, as it has an amazing plot line and characters:D Check it out!
Cool! I tried reading it a while back, but couldn’t get into it- after hearing how good it is, I might try it out again :DD
Ooh, I just read the first book either this month or last month. I thought it was good. It’s also supposed to be a Christian series but from what I can tell it’s about as Christian as Lord of the Rings.
JRR Tolkein was a catholic so you can take Lord of the Rings from that angle if you want to
It gets a lot more Christian in the last book :))
It has some Christian themes and the last book is probably where it’s most visible 🙂 but it’s a good series for everybody, regardless of beliefs/religion
I LOVE THE WINGFEATHER SAGA!!! It’s so nostalgic for me and I absolutely love it <3
I literally just finished reading the climax (of the last book) and I cried! (I’m not done with the entire book yet, I had to take a break) It’s really good (I love Janner <3)
Soo… I’d been thinking about reading Divergent and the Hunger games for a while, and especially since everyone recommended them, I decided to read them. and basically everyone said the hunger games was better.
results
in love with Divergent
👎 Hunger games
I started with the hunger games, and I did finish the whole first book, but I didn’t like the characters, the plot was very simple, it seemed like it was trying to force romance and physical contact into it without much depth. To me it seemed like the author just wanted romance, and was trying every possible way to do it.
Divergent, on the other paw, had complex character with lots of background, (especially Four, he has a lot more then Peeta from the Hunger games), and none of the romance was forced, much more planned out imo. the plot had more meaning, about what courage really is, what sacrifices mean, what humans are really about, etc.
I finished all four books right away.
well, thanks for reading my rant, and this is just my opinion, I hope none of you were offended by this, everyone thinks differently. bye!
The romance in the Hunger Games, especially in the first book, is used tactically and is forced by design — Katniss plays into it in order to get a leg-up in the Games and have members of the Capitol on her side, so they’d donate gifts. I don’t believe she actually feels much for him in Book 1 — I’m pretty sure that comes up in her narration, but I could be misremembering. Not that you HAVE to like it just because of that /gen, I can totally see how it’d be annoying, but it does surprise me a bit haha
yes, I know that, but to make that the setting of the story-
I mean, the author didn’t have to :((
but ofc everyone can have different opinions ^^
Ooh that’s interesting- I was the complete opposite! Loved the Hunger Games and hated Divergent.
Anybody read any Geronimo Stilton? I got a Stilton book from the library but I’ve never read him before. Is his series sequential or is each book its own thing?
omg geronimo stilton is so nostalgic!!!! i also loved the thea stilton ones
I never read them as a kid but I guess it’s not too late to start. 😅
real haha a lot of my friends and cousins read then even though we might be too old for Geronimo Stilton books :p
oh yeah, I loved reading Geronimo Stilton and Thea Stilton back in elementary school!! Each book is its own thing! 😀
Oh, I loved those books as a kid! Each book is its own thing!
yes his books are awesome :000 me (I’m almost 14) and my 20-year-old cousin STILL read them (is that a bad thing? /lh) :p I really loved the graphic novels!!
I love Geronimo Stilton and Thea Stilton, they’re the series that really got me into reading, and the only books that I still read after 5-6 years, they’re like my comfort books. Each book is its own story, but for the spin-off series it’s easier to read them in order, since events from previous books are usually relevant.
I loved them back in elementary school
The Kingdom of Fantasy books are in sequential order, but I don’t think the others are.
has anyone here read Jinxed? I have! It’s a really interesting book that’s sort of sci-fi/fantasy about a girl and her pet robot cat. I think it would be good for people who read Warrior Cats! (it’s part of a two-book (I think) series, sadly I can only read the first book because my library doesn’t have the other book ;-;)
i’ve heard of it!
Yeah I did! It was so good, definitely invest in getting the second one 😀
Omg I just read that book last week! It was pretty good but a little confusing at some points. I really liked it though, and I can’t wait to read the next one! (I don’t know if my library has it tho…)
For anyone who might be interested in the cat fantasy novel Tailchaser’s Song by Tad Williams (and I think you should be), my article comparing it to Warriors has just been published:
https://blogclan.katecary.co.uk/2024/06/01/warriors-and-tailchasers-song-two-contrasting-cat-fantasy-worlds/
I’ll second this- Tailchaser’s Song is really good!
I’m not sure how active Mojo/Plume is, but she’s expressed interest in Tailchaser’s Song before :> !!
Anybody ever read Wings of Fire? I think it’s pretty popular with WC fans, and I’m on the 9th book, some of the only books that can make me cry they’re so good!
yeppo hehe I read the first 5 books but my mom said I can’t read the rest until I’m 15 idk why… I managed to sneak a read on the 6th and 7th books at my library but other than that nope
yeah, I’m not quite sure! My best guess is the LGBTQ+ representation that starts a little bit in the start of the second arc? Some parents aren’t okay with that until their kids are a little older (and I respect that), that just might be why, since there is a lot of a certain lesbian relationship in books 13 through fifteen? Haven’t read it, but my friend gave me some spoilers. There are quite a few of those ships in WOF that are cannon 🏳️🌈
aaa- ok now i know why hehe and wait I never noticed anything in the 6th or 7th books-
It might also be because of Darkstalker but idk
I LOVE WOF!!! 😀 <333
(it's better than warrior cats imo 😛 )
HOW DARE YOU >:C /lhj
>:D
Does anyone have any recommendations for a person who likes horror and mystery novels but also at the same time likes romance somehow? (I am definitely not talking about me /s)
two of my favorite mystery series are A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder (a senior who investigates an old local murder for her capstone project and ends up way over her head; the mystery is AMAZING and unbelievably well-done!!! in regards to trigger warnings, there’s murder and violence ofc, but also animal death, mentions of sexual assault, suicide, shock from trauma, and drugs) and One of Us is Lying (five seniors go to detention, but only four walk out alive, and they have to work together to figure out who really killed the fifth kid; the mystery here is also really fascinating and the characterization is fantastic!! and for trigger warnings, again there’s murder and violence, as well as alcoholism, drugs, homophobia, suicide, emotional abuse, mentions of sexual assault, and some mildly sexual scenes) :DD they’re really really good and have both the mystery and romance elements as you requested (AGGGTM is closer to horror than OOUIL though), but just keep the mature themes in mind if you decide to read :))
I LOVE One pf Us is Lying, especially the first book. I read that one 3 times and am still not ready to give it back to the library 😛 Also the characters are just amazing and I love them so much, who’s your favourite character?
YESSS it’s so good!! as a matter of fact I just discovered the other day that there’s a show adaptation and I’ve been watching it, the cast looks way too old (especially Bronwyn) which is a little jarring and they changed a couple things about the book they should’ve kept, but overall I’m enjoying myself watching it so it’s not that bad 😛 but my favorite character is Addy!!! love Addy so much what a girlboss <333 who's yours??
I love Addy to death she’s the best ahhhh 🙁 And I heard about the show adaptation, haven’t watched it though (other than some clips) because my parents don’t want me to (it’s one thing reading the books and another watching the stuff), and on-screen adaptations usually ruin the books for me so I don’t often watch them, also the major things they changed from the books just made me go like “whaaaaaa-” 😛 I might watch it later on though, idk. The casting is weird, they look more like adults than high school seniors, and idk but Simon in the show looks like how I imagined Nate in the books, and Nate in the show looks like how I imagined Simon in the books (if the hair was a bit shorter) 😛 Anyways sorry about this, I love love love to nerd out about books I like :PP
Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco is one of my favorite series, but please check the trigger warnings first!
Daughter of Redwinter by Ed McDonald also contains some fairly mature themes so look it up before trying it, but I really enjoyed the dark fantasy/horror elements. It’s about a girl who can see ghosts trying to survive in a world where that sort of power is a death sentence. There’s a lot more mystery involved but I’m afraid I can’t say much without spoiling it! The romance takes a bit of a backseat to all of the ghost craziness, but it’s definitely there and it’s well written! The main character is particularly strong and I really enjoyed the worldbuilding too!
The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett is a super fun fantasy/murder mystery with just a splash of romance. It follows an apprentice investigator and his eccentric master as they investigate a series of murders that involve people spontaneously bursting into trees! The characters, the plot, the worldbuilding, the magic, everything is really good fun and so engaging. I think I read it in like two days flat :p
You could give Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White a go- but that really depends on what you’re comfortable with in terms of body horror as it does get pretty heavy in that regard! It follows a trans boy in a post-apocalyptic world as he tries to escape the cult that has infected him with a bioweapon. It has a fairly prominent romance plot too that I thought was well done!
Jinxed and Unleashed. It’s like a sci-fi/fantasy book with a bit of mystery and romance lol, and It Found Us (augh I’m not too sure of the title anymoreeee) and Mary Downing Hahn books though I can’t recall any of her books that has romance in it.
How scary do you like your horror? Cause I’ve got some recs with decent romantic subplots but I want to make sure it’s an appropriate level of scary 😛
Really any level of scariness is okay with me, and I’d love to hear your suggestions!
Cool beans! Here are some of my favorites:
-Dead Silence: space horror, investigating a haunted spaceship. Trigger warnings for hallucinations, suicide, body horror/gore
-Burn Down, Rise Up: contemporary urban horror, lgbt rep, trigger warnings for racism, misogyny, blood/violence/gore, police brutality
-Into the Drowning Deep: sci fi horror, lgbt rep, murderous mermaids, trigger warnings for animal death, violence/gore, dismemberment, drowning
-I also enjoyed Wilder Girls but that one’s pretty heavy on body horror so definitely do research on that first
I LOVE Wilder Girls so much I adored that book
I’m reading the first InvestiGators by John Patrick Green and it’s so cute. It’s kinda goofy humor but it’s funny and cute.
Oh I love the feel good books :)) so fun to read /gen
InvestiGators is awesome!!!! I really wish I could read the rest of the books but my library only has the first 3 books aaaaa.
Has anyone ever read The Darkest Minds series? It’s really interesting!
(has language and some violence and that’s all I think)
I love The Darkest Minds series but I wish it didn’t have such strong language.
Yah the language is slightly unnecessary! I think it’s YA though so maybe that’s why.
Never read it but it sounds good!
I just finished the Three Body Problem and it was quite good! It’s a sci fi novel about space exploration, science, and human politics set in China. It’s also a show I believe.
Trigger warnings for suicide, blood/gore, violence, murder, swearing, drinking, pretty bleak at times. I’d recommend for warriors and up.
Ooh I’ve been thinking of trying those! My dad has them so I’ll probably give them a go at some point!
Yeah I’d recommend it! It was a fun one
I would like to recommend an amazing book series I’m reading. It was recommended to me by one of my closest friends. There are four of them but the first one is called Red Queen.
The series is about two types of people, Reds and Silvers. Seperate by the colour of their blood, Silvers have many mystical abilities and Reds are just like us. The Reds are forced to live inferior lives, starving and struggling against poverty. The Silvers live like royalty, have privileges lives and never want for anything. But when Mare Barrow, a Red from a town called the stilts, finds she has powers like the Silvers. Desperate to keep this a secret, the Silver king pretends she is a long lost Silver, a daughter of dead war hero’s. She is now betrothed to a prince, her life changed forever. But will Mare Barrow survive in a world of Silvers, most who would kill her if they knew the colour of her blood?
This book is a wonderful read, that I would fully recommend. I feel that it gives a strong message of a fight for equality. A must read for fans of the Hunger Games.
Warning: Death, murder, gore, minor swearing and some mature themes. I probably wouldn’t recommend it for kits.
That sounds VERY awesome – I’ll give it a look!
I’ve read the whole series, I wouldn’t recommend it for apprentices either, I read it at 14 and would say it should be 15+
Can someone give me some book recommendations?
The Wingfeather Saga is a 4 book series, its genre is fantasy, it’s about this family that is trying to lay low in a small town, because the entire continent is under control of an evil force, Gnag the Nameless. He’s got an army of lizard people, called the Fangs of Dang. I know it sounds kind of silly, and it is a children’s book I think, but then again, WC is also a children’s book, and look how that turned out! The books are fair length, it has pretty good character development, and I really enjoyed the plot! I considered this the best series I have ever read until I read Warriors!
Fangs of Dang- WHAT ON EARTH- xD
What genre do you like?
