Housekeeping Rules
- Include content warnings if necessary! This can be things like graphic violence, death, sexual content, etc. If you wouldn’t recommend it to a young kid without warning them what’s coming, then include content warnings!
- Try to keep non-book chatter out of this page! It can be redirected to the Tavern.
- Try to keep Warrior Cats chatter out of this page! We’re here to highlight books aside from the cats we know and love, so you can head over to the Sunning Patch or the Elder’s Den to discuss Warrior Cats!
- Fanfiction recommendations are allowed but fanfiction advertisements are not! This means that while you can recommend someone or your own fanfiction to other people, you cannot announce or remind people of a new chapter release on this page. You may do so on the Fan Fiction page.
I finished The Outsiders. Man, that is such a great book but the ending absolutely kills me. I started a Dog Man because I needed something lighter than Scythe. I will go back to reading Scythe though. It’s good but really dark.
Dog Man is a good series =)
What’s your favorite Dog Man? I don’t really have a favorite I guess, but Fetch-22 is pretty great. I love it when Petey is framed and we find out his roommate is Big Jim. His “oh crap” face cracks me up so much.
I read The Outsiders for school once, and it’s definitely interesting. I think it’s got a good message, though.
YES YOU FINISHED IT!!!
Oh yeah, Dog Man is amazing 😎
I loved The Outsiders! Oh my word. It was so good.
the outsiders is a very interesting book.
hi! i’m probably going to top be very active on here, as love giving book recommendations =)
for my first recommendation, i would like to highlight DeweyFisher’s (some of you may have know them as Dewtail on the blog) excellent Warriors fanfiction series, Shaded Secrets. this fanfiction has a fascinating premise and excellent writing. Shaded Secrets can be found on Dewey’s Wattpad profile (https://www.wattpad.com/user/DeweyFisher).
i definitely recommend checking it out, especially for anyone who likes darker, murder mystery type reads. the fanfiction contains about the same level of violent content as a typical Warriors book, however due the darker themes of the fanfiction, i would avoid this one if you are sensitive to implied domestic abuse and mentions of trauma/mental struggles. if you are okay with that kind of content, i would really recommend adding the Shaded Secrets trilogy to your reading list. the fanfiction is extremely well written, and has an artbook of beautiful illustrations of accompany it. definitely go and check this one out!
Awesome! I’ve already read a bit of it, and Dewy is such an excellent writer! Thanks for the recommendation. I’ve followed you on Wattpad as well (:
great! thank you for the follow <3
Thanks for the suggestions!!!! I’ll make sure to check them out 😀
nice =D
I’m trying it out right now! Very excited 😀
awesome!
Guys I have now confirmed it- I’ve read every comment and I have not seen anyone so far suggest/talk about the Divergent series! If anyone knows… if you know, you know 🙁 If you haven’t read it, I’d definitely suggest it! Warning, though- this book is probably not for kits or younger apprentices- I’d say 8th grade and up, probably. It does have some sexual content but it’s not really important to the plot, so you can really just skip it.
But please- if you’ve read it, who’s your favorite character?
Divergent is a great series, one of my favourites actually!
I’m gonna read Divergent as soon as I find it in my library!!!!!! I know a bit about it, though. My faction is Candor; what’s yours????
I’m Dauntless :p
Ooh I’m currently reading it with my class! Although we’re still in the single-digit chapters, my favourite character is Beatrice! What’s yours?
I’ve heard of Divergent but haven’t read it yet. Which faction do you think I’d be a part of? 🙂
World Book Day is coming this Thursday! 😀
If you’re still in school, how does your school celebrate World Book Day? 🙂
I’m on a chemistry trip that day and thank goodness 😛
People dress up at my school and there’s a cake sale but for 99% of people it’s really half hearted. (There’s like maybe 20 kids who really go for it, and also the teachers but no one else is very bothered)
You’re not coming to the chemistry trip dressed up???? I’m planning to go in full costume to the fancy science department /lh /j
they dont =(
I wish they did 😛
They do not. That’s actually my concert day though, hilariously enough 😛
OHH BREAK A LEG SOLSY!
Thank you Shimmz 😀
They don’t. Which, unfortunate as it is, I’m sure nobody would participate, primarily, and I wouldn’t know who to go as, secondly.
i didn’t know that even exist :p
Recommendations for teenagers
1: Harry Potter
A bit of violence, some romance, fantasy-adventure.
2: Lord of the Rings
The two towers is the best, but anyways, it has some violence, a bitty bit of romance, aaaaaand this series ONLY has boys in it and some girls which OUTRAGES me
3: Percy Jackson
I know right, why am I recommending only these kind of books? But I love Percy Jackson. It’s a mythical series, has some romance (ew, these are all romance books), and adventure. Isn’t that violent but also violent. Also, who agrees the Percy Jackson movie is a bit messed up? The order is wrong.
PERCY JACKSON YES-
The movie is sooooooo messed up 🙁 anyways, who’s your favourite character (and also, what cabin would you be in??? 😀 )
Athena cabin ofc! Annabeth’s everything I want to be… smart, brave, and good at fighting! Also Lord of the rings is all about men going on quests but WHY ISNT EOWYN ALSO SAVING THE WORLD
Lord of the Rings is very man-heavy yeah, which is a shame. But don’t discount Eowyn- she’s amazing!
I don’t read these books, but my brother and dad does and needless to say our family is big with these three!!! I love the movies and shows.
Anyone heard of Burn for Burn? It is a 3 book series, it is super good!
No, I haven’t 🙂 It sounds super cool, though!!!! 😀
Ya, it is!
Forgot to say – content warning
Out of curiosity, has anycat here read Gone by Michael Grant??? I was just reading it 😀
I started it! I liked it, but sometimes books take a bit to get into so I stopped for awhile. Might try it again, though, it was a very good premise – probably just pick up where I’d previously left off
Yes, I didn’t like it though 😛
Not sure if poems should count as part of the bookshelf, but I recommend the poet Robert Frost if anyone is interested in some random poetry 🙂
Thanks, I’ll check it out!!!
Anyone who read The Count of Monte Christo and/or They Both Die at the End, would you say they’re good books? I’ve had both recommended to me by teachers/classmates and I wanted to know what you guys thought 🙂
I’ve heard The Count of Monte Christo is very good! Didn’t much care for They Both Die at the End, but I’m sure it’s good!
I haven’t, but They Both Die at the End sound super cool 😀
I’ve read They Both Die at the End and thought it was great! It has some explicit language though, so check the age rating and do what’s best for you. Personally, I would give it an age rating of 14+
Thanks to the recommendations back a couple of pages, I start Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus. I’ll let you guys know what I think of it. Also, I finished Scythe by Neal Shusterman and oh my word, it is the only book that has ever made my jaw drop because of plot twists. It’s so good.
They both sound really cool 😀
Yo guys, check out Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World. it’s so good and lovely. (and if you are very young, they have a children’s book for it too)
Ty, I’ll check it out!!
That’s a good one! Such a sweet story.
Any school for good and evil fans out there?
Here I am!
I’ve read the first book 🙂
Anybody read Out of my mind and Out of My Heart by Sharon M. Draper?
They are soooooooooooooo, sooooooooo, soooo good. Keep in mind, read out of my mind first. It makes a lot more sense. It’s awesome 😎
Out Of My Mind was very good! I liked it 😀
They sound really cool!!! I’ll see if I can read them 🙂
I loved out of my mind, and Ill have to look into out of my heart 😀
Yeppers 😀
