I found a really good author fr fans of LGBTQIA+ fiction!
His name is David Levithan!
One book from him I recently read is ANSWERS IN THE PAGES!
He also has other books centralized around LGBTQ+ relationships and meanings!
I might check it out 😀 Since i’m a LGBTQIA+ supporter I must do so. you don’t find many of those books either…
Oh I know that author!!
I’ll be sure to check him out! Since I’m LGBTQ+ it’s nice to see representation in books!
Have you guys read The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy? I’ve read it and I’m obsessed 😛
It’s a great read for anyone who wants a shorter book and is into sci-fi comedy 🙂
Yes, I have read it and enjoyed it very much. You might want to check out some of Adams’s other books, like Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul.
I have the Barnes and Noble leather bound edition that is the complete series. I got it for like a buck at a thrift store. But I haven’t read it yet. Maybe I should try it. 😅
Really? My English teacher wants me to read it but I haven’t tried it yet.
No 😛 It sounds great, though!!
If you enjoyed that you might enjoy Good Omens! It has a very similar tone and style of humour. It’s about an angel and a demon teaming up to stop armageddon.
Yesss! It’s so funny 😛
I haven’t, but it sounds cool!
I’ve been meaning to check it out for a while. I’ve heard some great things about it, from you and from my real-life friend Squirrelspirit, so I really do want to read it sometime.
I’d really recommend the Hunger Games trilogy for older kits, as well as apprentices and some warriors! I said older kits because there’s some pretty descriptive violence, as well as some romance that’s essential to the plot. It’s mainly because of the descriptive violence though!
I love the Hunger Games!!! Who’s your favourite character???
I’d say Katniss, Peeta, and Rue are my favourites!
I love Rue! And Cinna…
YASS CINNA
Buttercup
the hunger games is indeed good for those wanting to get into more mature books!! I definitely enjoyed it at that age too 😀
🙂
It’s been about ten years since I’ve read HG, which I enjoyed very much (though I’ve been re-watching the movies this week). Readers should be aware that the violence is pretty explicit. The basic premise is 24 teenagers in an arena trying to kill each other with hand weapons while millions watch on TV. The 3rd book involves a full blown war.
Yes, thank you for clearing that up! That’s kind of what I was trying to get at with ‘descriptive violence’
I LOVE THE HUNGER GAMES SO GOODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD :DDDDDDDD
Which book is your favourite? I personally like the third the most, even though it’s the most violent and not a lot of people like it, I personally find it very realistic and a facinating read :DD
(btw, I’d personally say it’s for mature 12-13 y/o, as it deals with some darker themes, especially the later ones (the first is fine for 10+ though, as long as you can handle the violence) but yeah just my opinion XD)
Some random books I recommend:
Insignificant Events in The Life of a Cactus
The Outsiders (probably for apprentices rather than kits)
The Epic Fail of Arturo Zamora
Finding Orion
The 39 Clues (series)
Wonder
Out Of My Mind
Ezperanza Rising
Keep It Together, Keiko Carter
(If read Keiko Carter) Just Be Cool, Jenna Sakai
Al Capone Does My Shirts (probably for apprentices rather than kits)
That’s all I got for now! Hope this helps anyone looking for somethin’ to read! ^^
Read the first one, it’s a interesting book.
Heard of The 39 Clues. It’s written by basically the same people who wrote Spirit Animals, right?
Yep, every book’s written by a different person (though some make more than one of them) like Rick Riordan 🙂
Wonder is such a great book!! I enjoyed 39 Clues as well :DD
I’m reading the cactus book right now and I just read The Outsiders. I love the cactus book and The Outsiders was fantastic too.
These all sound super cool, Goosepaw!!! Thx for the suggestions!!
Ofc! ^^
Thanks for the recommendations!
IAN KABRA IS POISONOUS
BUT YES THE 39 CLUES ARE AWESOME
SERIOUSLY THOOO (And the part where he got bit by the dog in the third book 😛 “It bit my bum!”)
I’m reading The 39 Clues, and have Wonder and Out of My Mind on my read list (I read a bit of Wonder, and it was amazing), I might read the others if I get time
and remember🙂I love Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus. It’s so funny but touching at the same time.
I’ve heard of that book before, it sound cool 🙂
we’re reading that in class right now! we’re almost done; it’s pretty good! I quite enjoyed it
THAT BOOK IS SO AMAZING.
I’ve heard about it!
IN GONNA START A CONVERSATION HERE!!!
Percy Jackson fans, what cabin would you be in and why! If I were a demigod, I would be either Athena’s kid or Artemis’s kid. What would you be?
I’m a daughter of Apollo because I’m a pianist.
Apollo, 100% I love the sun, haiku’s, literacy, music, books, plague, mythology, I have a super huge ego….. you get the point 😛
Wow you’d be my cousin then (if I decide I like Artemis more)
PJO IS ONE OF MY HARD CORE OBSESSIONS AAAA
I’d probably be an Athena or Poseidon kid tbh! I’m a very strategic thinker and a straight-a’s kid like an Athena kid, but I’m also very passionate, unpredictable, and short-tempered like Poseidon kids 😀
I’ve never read Percy Jackson, but I’ve been meaning to!
I’m looking for some fantasy-fiction books (not the warriors, wings of fire, or hunger games one though!) Any ideas?
Harry Potter!!!!!
ooh I might 😀
Oooh, I love fantasy-fiction!!!!! Some of my favourites are the Grishaverse series, the Gilded Wolves trilogy, and the Gone series 🙂 what kind of fantasy-fiction are you looking for?
any of em, I just need to read more books, there is never a thing of too many bookkssss
Are you looking for middle-grade or more Y/A? And stipulations? How much romance, blood/gore, and cursing are you comfortable with?
middle and up. or really…just any of them *Srugs*
GREAT. For middle-grade: Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan; Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger; The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer; Aru Shah and the End of Time by Roshani Chokshi; and The Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson
For Y/A: Caraval by Stephanie Garber; the spin-off to Caraval, Once Upon a Broken Heart (which is more romance but the descriptions are so gorgeous); The Cruel Prince by Holly Black; A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab (I don’t know your age but I would put this at a 14+ age rating for cursing and some general themes); and Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Harry Potter is one I’d definitely recommend!
My friends are convinced I’m a Hermes child
Frostheart by Jamie Littler! I’m actually writing a recommendation post for it right now 🙂
How about Tailchaser’s Song or The Wild Road and its sequel novel, The Golden Cat?
Both Tailchaser’s Song and The Wild Road (as well as The Golden Cat) are Fantasy-Fiction books about cats, if you’re interested! 🙂
I’m a big fan of Tailchaser’s Song. I have an article about it coming out (comparing Tailchaser’s world to that of Warriors) probably in June. I don’t know about The Wild Road or The Golden Cat. Please say more.
Books I LOVE (besides warriors, ofc)
The manga version of Spy X Family
Wolves of the Beyond
Survivors
The Hunger Games
Harry Poter
The Witches Throne (comic series)
Pretty little liars
Guardians of Ga’hoole
:DDDD
ooh I like SpyxFamily as well!! I enjoyed the Hunger Games when I read it too; not so much anymore lol
spy x family slaysssss
All great books!!!!!!! 😀
Who’s your favourite Hunger Games character?
Pls tell me if your a fan of one of these series/books
Wolves of the beyond
Horses of the Dawn
The Guardian Herd
Horse Diaries
Science Comics
Dragon Kingdom of Wrenly
Riders of the Realm
The Lost Rainforest
No Matter the Distance
A Wolf Called Wander
A Whale of the Wild
A Horse Named Sky
Horse Diaries
Katie the Catsitter
PAWS (graphic novel)
(These next ones are very sad, include death, but they are still amazing, wonderful book)
A dog’s Purpose novels (A Dog’s Purpose, a Dog’s Journey, a Dog’s Promise)
These books are all amazing, and I really recommend them!
I’ve read the Wolves of the Beyond!!!!!! 😀
Woohoo! fav character?
Umm…. unpopular opinion, but Heep 😛
😛
I love A Wolf Called Wander!
ooh!
I know I’ve said the same thing a few pages back on your original comment, but I’ve read some of the A Dog’s Purpose books and seen the first film/movie! 🙂
ooh! who is your fav life?
Here is my list of recs! With age ratings because I happen to believe that’s important
-Y/A Fantasy:
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. Who doesn’t love a good heist book? If you’re looking for some LGBTQIA+ representation you can get some here, but it’s not the main focus. I’d give it a 13+ age rating
King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo. I’ll be honest. You need the context of the Shadow & Bone trilogy. It’s worth it though, I swear. 13+
Caraval by Stephanie Garber. Whimsical and fun, with a hint of mystery. It gets heavier on the romance later in the trilogy, but it’s not the main focus. 12+
A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab. This book is so good. The magic system is amazing, the characters are compelling, it’s just a good time. I’ll give it a warning for language. 14+
The Archived by V. E. Schwab. Short and sweet, but a compelling read. I’ll warn you guys that the sequel wasn’t quite as good. 11+
-Middle Grade Fantasy: (if they’re on this list it’s Just A Good Time and funny)
Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger. Forget “yer a wizard Harry,” you get “you’re an elf, Sophie.” Any age
Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan. Greek myths! What fun! Any age
Wings of Fire by Tui Sutherland. DRAGONS! Are you sensing a theme with the age ratings in this section?
The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer. A twist on classic fairy tales
Aru Shah (The Pandava Series) by Roshani Chokshi. Percy Jackson… but Hindu mythology
The Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson. Same kind of idea as Lord of the Rings and Narnia, but a lot shorter and (in my opinion) better books 😛
The Menagerie by Tui Sutherland. Ok so imagine two 12 year olds trying their best to take care of a bunch of mythical creatures.
The Other Erin Hunter Books Because They’re Actually Pretty Good. I would say Seekers is more for 5th grade and younger, same with Survivors. I still kind of enjoy Bravelands, so I would say any age. The first Bamboo Kingdom arc is not complete but yep it is definitely middle grade
-Historical Fiction
Salt to the Sea by Ruta Septys. Compelling and a great way to bring attention to a tragedy that not a lot of people know about. Set in 1945. 12+
Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Septys (alternatively titled Ashes in the Snow). It’s about the deportation by Stalin because they had the gall to have free-thinking. Set in 1943 (I believe). 12+
The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton. I think it’s a good cultural study of the 1960’s-ish that’s still relevant today. 11+
-Science Fiction
Scythe by Neal Shusterman. Beautiful read. What is the purpose of life without death? I honestly didn’t like the rest of the trilogy, but I think if you’re stubborn like me you can stop after the first one and be fine. 13+
Renegades by Marissa Meyer. It’s superheroes!! There’s some romance, it’s not the focus. 12+
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I know everybody knows about this book. I don’t care. Read it. 12+
I actually just read the outsiders and scythe. Both were amazing! I have renegades but haven’t read it. I also have six of crows but haven’t read it either.
Six of Crows is probably my favorite book ever. Highly recommend.
But I’m glad you liked The Outsiders and Scythe! They’re great
Isn’t hunger games more of a dystopia than sci-fi book?
I think it’s a bit sci-fi since it takes place in the future!
I think it would fit more into that category, yeah
It is but I was unsure if I had enough dystopia books to qualify for it’s own list.
Also I was simultaneously writing this (for an HOUR) and trying to pay attention in algebra
I loooooove the Six of Crows!!!!! (and the rest of the grishaverse, ofc) Who’s your favourte character??? 😀
Kaz. He’s a funny little wet cat of a man with the tenacity of ten thousand suns
It’s also so funny how everybody is like “oh he’s so scary I wonder what he’s thinking about!” and then he’s spacing out thinking about that time Inej said hi to him
KAZ YES-
Lol it’s hilarious how everyone think Kaz thinks vs. how Kaz actually thinks 😛
I’m going to read some of these! They sounds really good!
Hooray for bringing other poor innocent souls into the trenches of being a bookworm
I really hope you like them <3
I LOVE Six of Crows, it’s one of my all time favorites! I also read Shadow and Bone, which was ok, not great, but I plan on reading the rest of the Grishaverse books. Also, I’m lije 50 pages into Caraval, we’ll see how it goes.
Shadow and Bone suffers for it being Bardugo’s first work. The ideas were there, but the execution was a little off.
But then came Six of Crows and everything that followed. I love them all so much
Caraval also kiiiind is the same way, but I think it picks up in book two. And book one is still good, don’t worry
I love the Wingfeather Saga and the Hunger Games!! Have you seen the ws tv show?
I haven’t! I need to check it out sometime
Yes the Land of Stories are awesome! Just, like, so cool…
If you’re looking for something like a fairy tale gone wrong, I’d recommend Fairy Tale by Stephen King! I haven’t finished it yet, and it’s definitely for middle graders (probably 12 and up) since there’s depictions of violence, but it’s a good read! Hopefully i finish it soon so I can give a full review
Yay I get to add something to my tbr list!
Thanks
Funny story my list was too long. Sorry, mods. We love and appreciate you.
-Romance
The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. I nearly put this in Y/A fantasy. I really did. But I think it’s ultimately a romance so it goes here. 14+
Once Upon a Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber. Downright whimsical. It’s so descriptive and fun, and the romance was cute. 13+
The Selection by Kiera Cass. It’s a dystopian romance. That tells you a lot. 12+
The Siren by Kiera Cass. It was a cute romance. Sue me. 12+
-Realistic Fiction:
Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus. So funny. It’s about a girl who was born without arms and her struggles. Any age
The Words We Keep by Erin Stewart. I picked this up from the library one day on a whim and was blown away. It’s about mental health struggles. 13+
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. How to describe this book? It deals with themes of grief, familial relationships, mental health, trauma… all that fun stuff. 14+
-Mystery
The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. A wild ride. It had a lot of puzzles and I was on the edge of my set throughout the whole thing. 12+
Little White Lies by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. I kept thinking “oh yeah. I think I know what’s going to happen” and then I got slammed by a plot twist. 13+
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. A five-year old cold case? No big! 14+
THE INHERITANCE GAMES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who’s your favourite character??? 😛
Xander! I find him funny
I’ll be sure to check these out!
I love the selection, We were Liars, and agggtm!!
Ooh, The Selection! I enjoyed it too ^^
Just read Good Girl, Bad Blood so now it’s time to order the third book and wait 3 months for it to get here from the library : )
Ooh, my friend reads the Inheritance Games! Imma have to check it out now brb
Nice recommendations! 😀
The Cruel Prince, The Inheritance Games, Little White Lies, and A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder were all really good!
I’ve also read The Selection, but I didn’t really like it; I did not like the writing style and the pace of the plot. It felt very boring overall, and I did not feel motivated to read the next book.
I also read We Were Liars, and I was expecting to like it, but I ended up not liking it. 😛
Who else is a fan of Dog Man? I love Dog Man so much. My favorite character is Petey because he always has the best expressions. 😅 I love the themes of Dog Man but I also think they’re hilarious.
YESSSSS I LOVE DOG MAN SO MUCH TOO!!! Definitely my favorite children’s book (not counting middle grade) 😀
My favorite character is Lil Petey! He’s so hilarious and adorable, but also brings some very important messages to the table
Lil’Petey is my second favorite character. He’s so cute and he’s good for his Papa.
I used to be! I remember it being pretty funny!
I also like Petey! Honestly, I think Lil Petey mirrors how Petey was like back then- in Supa diaper baby 2, I think (they’re basic all y replicas)
Dog Man was my entire childhood 😛
Anyone read Ready Player One by Ernest Cline?
It’s a dystopian sci-fi (YA) that does include sexual content, violence, profanity (no n-word) and death. (I love heavy books like this)
No, but I’ve been looking for a copy for ages. I saw the film when it came out and I really enjoyed it.
Would you say it’s for apprentices to watch?
