“Nobody will stop you from creating. Do it tonight. Do it tomorrow. That is the way to make your soul grow – whether there is a market for it or not! The kick of creation is the act of creating, not anything that happens afterward. I would tell all of you watching this screen: Before you go to bed, write a four line poem. Make it as good as you can. Don’t show it to anybody. Put it where nobody will find it. And you will discover that you have your reward.” Kurt Vonnegut
I think I’m going to write another of my mini stories, enjoy!
Liondawn sat waiting on the cold rocks, glowing in the full moon. Their plan had worked. Only, where was he?
The other cats had gone to the gathering, giving her and Snownight time alone with eachother. He was a ShadowClan cat, and Liondawn was ThunderClan. A white pelt climbed behind her. He was there! “Why were you so late?” She asked, clearly upset by his lack of timing.
“I’m sorry, Liondawn, we can’t continue,” Snownight replied, he hesitated “I love someone else more than I loved you. I don’t want you anymore”
She gasped. “No… How could you? After…” Liondawn sighed, “I have to tell you something.”
Snownight looked at her inquisitevly “Yes, what?”
Liondawn started “I’m going to have kits,” She took a deep breath before starting again, “But, after what you said, I feel like killing you.”
Snownight looked at her as though she was crazy “Ok then.” He began to walk away. Liondawn was filled with anger, it seemed to buuble and spill through her eyes, ears and now her claws and teeth. She leapt on him, swiping her claws and snapping her jaws. He shreiked in pain, yet he was pinned down by Liondawn. Lionpaw slit his fragile throat, slicing it from chin to chest.
She grinned evily from whiskers to whiskers, she dragged the dead Snownight by his dusty scruff across to the ShadowClan border.
Liondawn gazed across the lake and saw the skeletal outlines of cats on the island. She paused before starting again on the trek towards ShadowClan territory.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
She hid behind some feathery ferns in Rowanstar’s territory, watching the night skies wash up in blood-red clouds. The world instantly turned cold, and a bitter wind ruffled her fur and stung her lemon eyes. Liondawn continued, despite the pang of guilt that rose and felt like acid in her stomach, burning through her goodness.
She gulped it away and smeared the corpse in WindClan scent-trail, then threw the body far into ShadowClan territory and rushed to the ThunderCamp before anyone noticed….
Cool!
Im gonna write a part 2!
Enjoy!
The moment that Liondawn had been witing for her whole life had finally arrived! It was happening. Finally.
A sea of cats stood below her. Liondawn was finally going to become a deputy! Her leader, Cherrystar, was about to touch noses with her. —One mouse-length, one mouse-tail-length— “STOP!!!!!” Boomed a voice from below. ShadowClan scent filled the air, it cascaded over the camp walls, through the entrances to dens and hung like a dark, heavy mist, which seemed to blind everyone from their senses. “She is the cat who killed our loyal warrior, Snownight, and pulled his eyes out, then cut them into little pieces before stuffing them in his mouth. Liondawn doesn’t deserve to become deputy, she deserves to DIE!” The words ‘deserves’ and ‘die’ were spoken with extra confidence and hatred. All the ThunderClan cats turned behind them to see what was happening and who was interupting their ceremony. Skullstar was the new leader of ShadowClan since Rowanstar had been slaughtered during a violent skirmish over borders with RiverClan.
Snownight had been Skullstar’s only son who had survived kithood. Finding him dead drowning in WindClan scent with his eyes cut out and stuck in his mouth was clearly a great loss for him. Yet a great “detective” had discovered who murdered him recently.
————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Lionpaw (she had her name changed after the incident) was trapped in ShadowClan camp. She had been imprisoned in a hole, guarded by sturdy warriors. Her clan had given her away like a slave in a market as they were unwilling to meet ShadowClan in battle. Lionpaw had tried every trick she knew, she had tried tunneling but her claws bled and weren’t treated, she had tried escaping whilst the guards were sleeping, but was caught and scarred across her cheek and her whiskers had been plucked from their sockets. She had also tried distacting the guards, fighting them and pretenting to be ill. All of them failed.
Days and nights passed, old and stringy mice were tossed down, scratches and bites now scarred her pelt.
Lionpaw now just sat back and hoped to grow old and die, though she didn’t need to wait long. After a seemingly endless clan meeting, Skullstar came to the top of her hole and looked down at the puny cat. “Hmm, what to do with you? No prey was caught under your claws for us. No herbs were plucked by your teeth for us. No use from all of you at all.” He smiled evily at her, “Kill her!”
Part 3 coming soon!

Pain.
I blinked open my eyes, and felt one thing.
Pain.
I tried to stand up, but sonething jolted through my body.
Pain.
I looked down at myself, noticing my once-sleek pelt was ragged and covered with scratches.
Pain.
One of them, running down my flank, was especially bad, oozing blood and pus. I flinched at the sight. And the pain. I thought back to that moment, when all the warriors, apprentices, and even elders closed in on me. I remembered brave Robinpaw, ready to stand up for me. But one apprentice versus a whole Clan? Never a chance. He couldn’t stop the pain.
I thought back bitterly to the moment when I had lost it all, my Clan, my apprentice, and nearly my life. It would have been better without Silverminnow. The deputy had saved my life, but what was a life without a Clan to live it for? Dying would be better. Less pain.
Poppyfall. The medicine cat. She had done it. She had accused me of killing innocent Nightkit, cracking the ice so he fell through. Why cause all this pain?
My vision grew blurry. I stumbled to the ground, probably getting dirt in every one of my StarClan-knows-how-many scratches and bites.
Pain.
It was almost unbearable. The feeling seared through me, touching my ear-tips to my claws. Exiled. Exiled on the word of a medicine cat. Why would Poppyfall lie? What was in it for her? Why make me feel all this pain?
Robinpaw.
My apprentice. Poppyfall always seemed to have loved Robinpaw, begging Poolstar to have him be a medicine cat, furious when he became my apprentice. I thought back to her face and shuddered. But why go so far? I remembered Poppyfall had been on the ice. Had she cracked it? Why kill a kit for Robinpaw? Why cause all this pain?
The pain seared through me for the last time, and I fell to the dusty ground, my consciousness fading away. The only thing remaining was the pain.
“Lakepelt, if you are seen on ThunderClan territory, my warriors have my permission to kill you.”
Those words rang through my mind, my very last thought.
Now that the word “pain” has lost all meaning, did you like it? I know, not Cypress or Jayie quality, but one of the best things I’ve written. It’s based off some old unfinished fanfic.
It’s amazing!
So much pain! 😀
So sad but SO GOOD!
No, I lost my formatting. The word pain is supposed to be in italics. Oops.
Yeah, when I copied and pasted my story from a Word PowerPoint, the Italics just were normal. Now I just use capitals.
I love it!
I agree with y’all! Love the discription!
Wow, that was amazing O,O
WONDERFUL! Poppyfall is evil!
Yep! I should make another thing explaining everything
Wait, does the cat who is experiencing pain die?
Yep. The cat is named Lakepelt, BTW
This is the first chapter to my fanfic The Heart of a Storm. If you like it you can read the rest on my deviantart. Just click on my name.
Chapter 1
Today should be the greatest day of my life, but it is just a reminder of the horrors that I have survived. As I stood beside Bramblestar I looked around. So many cats were cheering my name “Lakestorm! Lakestorm! Lakestorm!” but one wasn’t, Ebonypaw. He wouldn’t be a warrior for at least another moon. I was already on my eighth moon, I can’t imagine how he must feel.
As I went to the front of the camp to complete my vigil I saw Ebonypaw limping back into the medicine cat’s den. So, I thought back to that terrible day.
It was my fifth moon of apprentice training and we were having our first assessment. Cherryfall was walking with me while Bramblestar, my mentor, was hiding in the foliage. Sparkfur, Cloudtail, Ebonypaw and Willowpaw were also with us. Thier mentors were Hollytuft and Alderthorn. As we were walking I saw a dark figure in the forest so I whispered “Bramblestar I see someone!” and he emerged from the bracken he was hiding in. As he was walking up he saw the shape move. “ INTRUDER! ThunderClan regroup near me!” he yowled. We were tail to tail when we were suddenly surrounded by badgers. Bramblestar said “Willowpaw go tell Squirrelflight to get another patrol out here!” “Warriors stay with your apprentice, Sparkfur fight with me and Cherryfall. Alderthorn fight with Cloudtail.” Bramblestar ordered. “ThunderClan ATTACK!” and we were launched into battle. Early in the battle I heard a screech from Ebonypaw and saw his leg in one of the badger’s mouth and then there was a sickening crunch. “Ebonypaw! No!” Hollytuft wailed. I couldn’t look but I knew something was wrong with him. “Lakepaw, look out!” Bramblestar yowled. I looked at him right as the badger swiped me and doing that probably saved my eye. I felt unbearable pain in my face and side and thought “Am I dying?” I couldn’t see, everything was red and my ears were ringing. “Help!” I wailed “I can’t see!” I tried to move but I couldn’t move. “I can’t move!” I caterwauled and then I started panicking. I then smelled my mother, Cinderheart’s, scent and I started to calm down. I then felt her grab my scruff and drag me somewhere. “Cinderheart, I can’t move or see! Help me!” I wailed. I felt fear flash in her but then it went away when I smelled my father. “I’ll help” he muttered and I was lifted up onto his shoulders. Then I blacked out.
It’s amazing so far!
I’m definitly going to read the rest tomorrow! 🙂
I clicked on ur name… I couldn’t find Chapter 2. Only Chapters 15,16, and 17.
If you go to my gallery and click on the folder that says The Heart of a Storm, you should see all of the chapters.
Great suspense at the end of the story!
Chapter 4
There were soft voices in the distance.
“Who are they?” “What are they doing here?” “Who are they?” “I already asked that!” “Oh, well.” “Are they rogues?” “Gee, I don’t know.”
Bearsong, Redfang, and Goldfur had stumbled upon another Clan. A creepy pale gray cat emerged from the dense undergrowth. Another cat, a very dark gray she-cat, simply leaped over the bushes. A whole patrol followed them. “Koalaclaw,” the pale gray cat said quietly, “take out the patrol.” He said something else to her, but the three brothers could not hear him. The party of cats suddenly flooded out into the open and surrounded them. “We’ll hold them captive,” said the pale gray cat, “until we decide otherwise.” A dark gray tom with three white paws took Redfang by the scruff, and a ginger tabby tom snatched Goldfur up right off his paws. Bearsong leaped onto the dark gray tom in attempt to release Redfang, but another cat plunged her claws deep into his side and he toppled over. Bearsong looked alarmingly at his side, blood now pooling onto the ground, then made the biggest mistake any cat could ever (EVER) make.
He rolled onto his bleeding side, trying to stop the flow, and completely exposed his underbelly.
The vicious cat dove in and attacked him. She looked like a young warrior, too. She was all black except for one white paw and a white tail-tip. Her green eyes blazed with menace (guess who the cat is). Bearsong screeched a battle cry and lunged for the black cat. He shut his eyes, tight, and slashed his claws at air. Then his claws met flesh, and he sank his claws so deep into her shoulder that his dark brown paws were matted with blood. As she aimed a killing blow at his throat, he leaped into the air, fell on her back and found the place where he wounded her. The patrol of cats were cheering the black cat on. Redfang was struck dumb and was staring at his brother, while Goldfur was sniffing the air to see whose blood was whose. Bearsong slit open the cat’s shoulder even deeper than before. He dug his paw into the wound and slit it. Deeper. And deeper. AND deeper. Until the cat whipped around and sliced open his already wounded side, and more blood oozed out. Bearsong toppled to the ground.
Redfang gasped, thinking he was dead. He was not. “I think he learned his lesson, Ghoststar,” the black cat said to the creepy pale gray cat, grimacing with pain and hunching her bloody shoulder. Ghoststar, the pale gray cat turned his head to look at Bearsong. Bearsong looked carefully at Ghoststar. His right eye was absolutely black. Black with a white scar over it. His other eye was a cold yellow. “I think you are right, Darkwing,” he hissed (If you guessed that Darkwing was the cat, then you guessed right! I am Darkwing, but in kit-form! She is also the cat in the pic to the left.). Darkwing, the black cat dipped her head. She dragged Bearsong by the scruff to their camp. The dark gray tom and the ginger tabby tom followed her with Redfang and Goldfur.
Their Clan camp was dark. Mysterious. Queer. Perplexing. Eerie. Just plain scary. There were dense trees everywhere, with ivy and vines draping from the branches. A quite large clearing lay in the midst of the trees. It looked like a jungle. The small clearing where Bearsong and Darkwing had fought was drenched with blood and it lay just next to the large clearing. The ginger tabby appeared to be the medicine cat, as he had walked into a den filled with leaves and branches of every kind. (this is their camp: http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy325/chrome235/UltraJungle10.jpg) “Fallenleaf!” the dark gray she-cat, Koalaclaw, shouted, her ears flicking around, the sides white. The ginger tabby tom padded out of his den and toward her. “Put the cat down–over there, yes, in the tree stump–and take Darkwing to your den.” Fallenleaf obeyed her command and dropped Goldfur in a tree stump, then took the warrior to his den. Bearsong was slightly beginning to understand what was happening. Ghoststar was the leader. Koalaclaw was a warrior. Fallenleaf was the medicine cat. Darkwing was another warrior. The mysterious Clan had basically sentenced them to death by holding them captive. It was all too much!
The dark gray tom with three white paws dropped Redfang in the tree stump and started toward Bearsong. He growled a warning to the foreign cat but the cat simply snapped, “You’d better do as we say or else your big lump of fur will be crouched at our paws, begging for mercy.” Bearsong batted the cat’s paws away and ran toward the stump. The tom pushed him in.
Bearsong thought he was going to die.

OMG!!! that picture of the Clan’s camp is so cool! If u click on it the first two times, it should take u to a website. Click the <– to come back to BlogClan. Then click the link again. It should not take u to the website again. If it does, click the <– again. Then click the link. It should become a large picture in a white space, like Bearsong and Goldfur in the pics I posted in Chapter 3. It totally looks like ur an apprentice who is lost in a jungle and if u click on it, u go in that direction. Click it again and the apprentice will say "no, no, that's too dangerous. Ooh, but how about here? No, no, no." It looks so cool! Like ur actually in the jungle!

Chapter 5
Plop.
“Get off!”
The three brothers had landed in a large heap of fluffy fur at the bottom of the hole. The cat who had spoken, Redfang, shoved his brothers off him. Bearsong looked up. The tree stump had a hole in it. There was only wood attached to the stiff bark. Other than that, the long, dark hole was all dirt. The dark gray tom with three white paws was guarding the stump.
Bearsong, Redfang, and Goldfur had managed to fall asleep for the rest of the day. Suddenly, Bearsong was aware of another cat jumping into the hole. He slowly opened his eyes, which were heavy with sleep.
Darkwing was standing on top of them.
Bearsong hissed and slit a small gash in the side of her neck. As sleepy as he was, Bearsong hated Darkwing. A few droplets of blood dripped from her neck into his eye. Darkwing didn’t seem to care. Then she spoke. “I’ll get you guys out.” Bearsong stared at her for a moment, searching his mind for something to snap back at her. “Why? I hate you.” “Fine, if you want to live the rest of your lives in this Clan.” Bearsong glared at the look she had on her face. “Fine, mouse-heart. Let me sleep and I’ll consider.” “Fine.” Darkwing gracefully and effortlessly sank her claws into the dirt to climb up. Bearsong watched as she shoved a stone most of the way over the hole. He curled up, half on Redfang and half on Goldfur’s head, and soon enough fell asleep. Bearsong had a dream similar to reality, but he wished it was completely accurate (the words in [ and ] are part of Bearsong’s dream).
[They were all in the same hole. Darkwing was still in the hole. Everything seemed to be in slow motion. He slowly jolted his paw up and cut the small gash in the side of her neck. But he did more than just scratch her. Bearsong leaped onto her back and ripped his claws down her spine and his foe collapsed onto Redfang and Goldfur. Somehow they knew what was happening and woke up instantly. They, too, attacked Darkwing. Still, everything was still in slow motion, remember that, readers. After recieving a long jagged tear in her side and a long slash down her back, Darkwing attempted to snap her jaws at Bearsong, but missed. She was getting weaker from blood loss. Bearsong closed his jaws around her throat and killed her. Blood splashed their snouts and paws.] (this paragraph <– is Bearsong's dream)
Bearsong jolted awake.
He suddenly remembered how exactly Darkwing had climbed up the hole. He climbed up the side of the hole, pushing himself up, jumping, leaping. Until… he realized what the rock at the top was for.
He had tried to squeeze in between the rock and the stump, but the rock had given way and brought him down on top of his brothers. Bearsong heard only faint noises. "GET OFF ME!" The shouting of Redfang. Their hearts beating fast. Their unsteady breathing. The clap of thunder overhead. He only smelled fear and blood. All he could see was black.
Bearsong had blacked out.

Interesting! Great chapter!
Thanks! I’m making Chapter 6 right now!
Chapter 2:
Briarsong woke up in a daze. Lights flashed in her eyes and her mouth was a pool of blood. She looked around frantically for Bramblesky and Cedarheart in vain. The sun had already risen so the whole Clan must have noticed their absence by then. She sat back to observe her surroundings. She was laying inside of some sort of Twoleg trap. She peeked through the holes in the front of it to see the flat face of a Twoleg staring at her. It moved its paw over to the trap pulled the front of it off. Briarsong darted for the door which the Twoleg quickly shut.
The trap looked more like a cage from the outside, causing Briarsong to feel more like a prisoner than ever. Her quick movements of attempted escape had made her legs hurt worse. They collapsed underneath her and she blacked out.
Cedarheart reached out and clawed the face of the Twoleg that was carrying him into a strange structure. The Twoleg cried out in pain, which gave Cedarheart a bit of satisfaction. The nest was large and smelled heavily of dogs–and cats. He was set down on a ledge and several sets of Twoleg paws held him down. They poked and prodded at him and put him in a cage. When he was re-exposed to the light again, he was inside of a Twoleg nest. “Hello, brother.” said a voice.
Wondering what the voice could be… hype for next chapter!

Chapter 1
A brown and white tabby quickly glanced behind him and stopped in his tracks to wait for the rest of the hunting patrol. “Bone, you’re too fast!” panted a long-furred dark brown tom. Bone That Shatters On Rock, the tabby, looked at the dark brown tom and waited for the cats to catch up. “That’s because I’ve been running around camp, chasing rabbits, squirrels, and birds all the time, Shadow.” The dark brown tom, Shadow On Cave Wall, rolled his eyes and bent his neck down to lap up water from a small puddle. Bone watched the rest of the patrol stop at the puddle to drink. “Let’s take our catch back to camp,” he said, “and then you can drink all you want.” All the cats began to trot back toward camp, except for Shadow and a blue-gray tabby tom, Water That Splashes In Creek, who were still drinking. “Come on, let’s go!” Bone said just before sprinting back to camp. (their camp entrance looks like this: https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/38/80700050_5e766165f7_z.jpg?zz=1) They crept around the side of the small pond and jumped through the falling water, then dropped their kill on the prey-pile. Water and Shadow met Bone and four other cats by the waterfall. One of the four cats, Splattered Fur Of Swift Leopard, said that she had seen a hawk circling camp. “We have to kill it!” she shouted. “Or at least drive it away! We can’t just let it kill off our cats, one by one.” Another cat, Coal Where Sparks Rise, spoke up. “Splattered is right. We will kill it!” The other two cats, Log That Lays Across Water and Wood Of Sturdy Oak, agreed with them. Bone and Shadow exchanged glances. “We need to ask Stoneteller,” Bone announced to the other six cats.
“What do you need to ask me?”
A fluffy black she-cat leaped through the waterfall and into the pond, water spraying at the seven cats. Stoneteller hopped onto the grass and shook out her fur. More water spattered the cats. “I saw a hawk,” Splattered meowed. “I think we should kill it,” Coal spoke up. “I agree with him,” said Log. “So do I,” Wood mewed. “I don’t know what we should do, so I suggested we ask you,” Bone said, and Shadow and Water nodded. “Well,” Stoneteller explained, “I think we should cast stones.”
The Tribe cats gathered in a cluster in the cave, the only sounds heard were the roaring waterfall and Stoneteller speaking. “Place your stone in the hole on the left if we should kill the hawk, and place it in the right hole if we should not.” The cats grouped into a big line, each cat with a stone in his or her mouth. Splattered placed her stone automatically in the left hole, then left. Storm That Rises Before Dawn placed his stone in the left hole, too, then sat next to Splattered. Wheat That Grows In Sunlight placed his stone in the right hole, thinking it would be better for them. But Sheep That Runs Across Field, who was behind him, placed her stone in the left hole, completely outnumbering the right hole. Sheep and Wheat sat near Storm and Splattered. Track Of Running Lapwings placed her stone in the right hole. Cold Breeze That Swiftly Flows placed her stone in the left hole. More cats placed their stones in the left hole, but all the kit-mothers and elders placed their stones in the right hole. “We want peace before we die,” Nest Above Ragged Branch said. Then Bone’s turn came.
He looked at the left hole, then the right, then the left again. He placed his stone in the left hole. So did Shadow and Water. Soon the casting of stones was finished. “The Tribe of Rising Shadows has decided,” Stoneteller announced, “that we will fight and kill the hawk.” The cats sitting near Splattered cheered. “Tomorrow we will fight,” Stoneteller said loudly, shooting a glance outside. The sun was almost completely hidden and darkness had covered most of the sky. Bone gathered Shadow, Water, Splattered, Storm, Log, and Coal and they all slept together.
They were all awakened by the cry of a hawk.
“ATTACK!!!!!”
The cave-guards and prey-hunters all stormed out of the cave to attack the hawk. It was huge! It was almost as big as the whole Tribe put together! The hawk landed next to the party of cats. About half of them fearfully said that they would be in the cave protecting the elders, kit-mothers, and kits, and ran. The hawk rose again on its massive wings, and an ear-splitting screech cut the air. Sheep That Runs Across Field, Storm That Rises Before Dawn, Flash Of Shrieking Lightning, Track Of Running Lapwings, Coal Where Sparks Rise, and Cold Breeze That Swiftly Flows jumped out at the hawk’s talons, and attempted to cut its leg. The hawk simply swooped down and injected its talons straight through one cat. Sheep That Runs Across Field was shaken loose from the hawk’s talons, and fell to the ground, her white fur scarlet with her blood. “No!” Wheat That Grows In Sunlight grappled her by the scruff and took her to Stoneteller. Stoneteller quickly glanced at the hawk, then whispered to Wheat, “I’m sorry. She’s dead.” “No!” Wheat wailed again. “Your mate was a wonderful cat,” Stoneteller told him quietly.
“Flash! I have an idea!” Splattered called to her friend. She whispered something in his ear. Flash nodded slowly. They ran, fast as they could, past their Tribemates, past the hawk. Splattered dipped the side of her neck into a small puddle of blood. They ran up the mountain path and onto a cliff. An enormous rock lay there. “Hold me by my scruff, and shout to the hawk that I’m dead, then as it flies over, we’ll push that rock onto it,” Splattered explained. Flash nodded. “Hey, you! Rock-head!” he shouted through Splattered’s scruff to the hawk. It turned and looked in his direction. The hawk flapped its massive wings and rose into the air, soaring toward the two cats. “Now!” Splattered whispered loudly. They leaped behind the rock, which was just on the edge of the cliff. The rock tipped over and brought the hawk down. With a loud crash, the hawk was pinned to the ground, its wing underneath the rock. Two cats, Glow Of Fading Sun and Sand Twister That Decays Quickly, bounced toward the hawk, teasing it, thinking it was not close enough to touch them.
They were wrong.
The hawk extended his legs and swiped his talons at the two young cave-guards, ripping their throats and killing them. A large gauge was in each of their necks. They lay bleeding on the grass, dead.
“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!”

A One-Shot.
A Life Of Desolation
Opal only had nightmares of her past, every single time the moon had risen. For her, it had seemed as the moon was a sign of endless silence and terror, for only that one day, depressing her every single second of her life, had caused this pain…
“Emma! Opal! Dusty! We have to move away, the twolegs keep on bringing their dogs near here! Now!” Opal stopped play-fighting with Dusty and Petal, as their mother, Himahi, meowed to them. It was dusk now. The first stars of the day had risen.
“I don’t want to leave!” Opal protested. “Me either!” Emma joined in, while Dusty remained silent. “I’m sorry, my precious dears… but we have to do this!” Himahi flicked her long bushy ginger tabby tail. “Please come! We don’t want to be out too late!” Opal sighed, disappointed.
The same place where Emma, Dusty, and I were born… all because of those badger-face dogs… “Okay…” Dusty mewed, sadly. They were all kits at that time, so they didn’t really know how it was outside.
As they began their first steps of the journey, cries of late tiny bats rose through the speckled sky, frightening Opal and Dusty. Emma would just think it was birds. Rows of rose bushes lined up straight across the perimeter. Foul-smelling monsters sped through the crossing thunderpaths, the unblinking lights brightening up the storm-gray stone. The wind howled, causing leaves to break apart from the branches to flutter across the earth.
Himahi began to speed up, turning towards a large field. Opal was relieved, since there were no thunderpaths, but she saw a twoleg ride something she had barely seen now. It had two thin black paws, like the monster. The thing was about half the size of a normal monster. No cat said a thing about it, they just continued the journey. The hissing lights of the Twolegplace shined through some transparent, but square thing.
Opal shivered as a gentle breeze swept by, ruffling her fluffy tortoiseshell-and-white fur. They had just begun to step the field when Himahi suddenly became alert. Her pelt began to bristle.
“Do…g!” The wind was growling loudly, so Opal barely heard her. She began to hear barking dogs. “Run! Follow me!” Himahi yowled, and the kits began to speed after her, but they were slower.
The dogs were catching up. Himahi grabbed the smallest, Emma. Dusty climbed on her back, along with Opal. She was way back though. Himahi barely had time to run. The dogs were right behind her, snarling and barking. Every kit was afraid, not speaking.
The moon had began to rise. The terror had taken a step further. Opal’s claws were getting tired now. She couldn’t hold on much now. Hinahi was speeding up, but then a corner had appeared.
She did a sharp turn, where Opal was thrown off, crashing onto the wall. She could barely see a fence, where Hinahi had began to climb, with Dusty hanging on, nearly falling. She tried to get up, but fell backwards.
They made it, but not her. The dogs were coming. “Opal! No!” Hinahi was ready to flung herself down to save Opal, but she was too late. The dog had come. It picked her up, shaking its head furiously. Pain hardened by second where she was being bit. Opal mewled loudly in pain and fear.
She could hear a shriek fall from Hinahi. Emma and Dusty were wailing, but it was fading too, as if they were running away so they couldn’t see the tragedy. The dog threw her like a toy onto the wall, where Opal crashed, hard, until she heard a Twoleg. She was saved.
The dog whimpered, and then ran away towards where the Twoleg was. Opal raised herself to follow her kin, pain blazing through her spine. Once she reached the fence, she tried to climb it, but her leg was also badly injured. She couldn’t climb it.
Until then, Opal had lived with grief and vengeance, attempting to kill every single dog she saw that was running freely. Not only as vengeance, but she also was worried in case if her kin was still alive, they wouldn’t be hurt by the vicious creatures. Still on this day, Opal was known as a Assassin.
Oooh love it! 😀
Warriors Series 5.5: Echoes of the War
Novella 1: Sushi’s Society
Chapter Six
“Nice catch, Sunny!”
The tiny tabby looked up, a squirrel lying at her paws among the multicolored leaves. “Thanks!” she purred.
Sushi watched her daughter pick up her catch, purring. Almost two leaf-falls had passed since the battle with the forest Clans. Sushi’s kits had grown into fine young cats, as well as skilled hunters. Even towards the end of leaf-fall, with leafbare closing in fast, they managed to find enough for every cat to eat.
Sunny towards her mother, her squirrel hanging from her jaws. The she-cat was just as small as her father had been, with the same rounded head and thick, soft pelt. But her bright ginger pelt was free of scars, and no tooth-spiked collar hung around her neck. Sushi felt a rush of pride; she had raised her kits to be peaceful rogues, not the vicious killers their father would have made them.
“I sent Snuggle and Shy to check for prey by the twisted stump,” Sunny informed her mother once she reached her again. She set the squirrel by Sushi’s paws, giving her chest fur a few quick licks.
Sushi fought back an amused purr; there was no question that Sunny was the leader of her litter, and at times she could be rather bossy. But her loyalty to her brothers was unquestionable, and her cleverness often kept them with full bellies at night. “Lead the way,” Sushi mewed.
Together, the daughter and mother set off through the forest. It had been a little over one leaf-fall since they had left Barley’s barn. Barley and Ravenpaw had sheltered Sushi’s family for eight moons, until the kits were old enough to hunt for the whole family, as they had promised. Sushi knew that Barley hadn’t trusted her at all, but he had been decent to her family, and Ravenpaw had been great with the kits.
They had promised not to tell any cat that they had been sheltering the BloodClan cats, including cats from the forest Clans. Ravenpaw had told Sushi all about the Clans’ code of honor, and she believed him when he said they were good cats. But she didn’t trust that they wouldn’t try to take out their fury against BloodClan on the kits of Scourge.
After they left the barn, Sushi and her family had made their home in the forest, just outside of ThunderClan territory. Sushi was always careful to keep herself and her kits out of the sight of warriors. She still wore her collar of teeth and claws, and while none of her kits were identical enough to Scourge to recognized as his kits on sight, she knew Sunny looked enough like him to raise suspicion. They had found an old badger den that served as a cozy den, and they hunted in the surrounding forest. Sushi was still haunted by memories of her past, and she never felt entirely comfortable in the forest, but for now her family was safe and happy.
Once they had picked up the rest of their catch, Sushi and Sunny returned to the den. They came upon a familiar scene when they reached the den. Scraps was sitting outside, sorting leaves with one paw. Ever since Ravenpaw had told him about medicine cats and their healing herbs, Scraps had been fascinated. These days he spent most of his time collecting and studying herbs, repeating what Ravenpaw had told him and storing any herbs he deemed important in the den, in case of emergency. He had already used his new knowledge to heal minor injuries and illnesses among his family.
Wrapper was inside the den, curled up beside Catflap. The large tom looked frailer than he ever had before. Though he was fed even more than the rest of the family, old age kept him from putting on much weight. Sushi felt a pang of grief as she looked at him, and the empty space beside him. Bellchime had died not long after they had settled in at Barley’s barn. She had simply been too old, and when she became sick, it took her life quickly. Barley and Ravenpaw had been very kind about the whole thing, allowing them to bury her at the barn and holding a vigil for her. Catflap was quieter now, even seasons after she was gone, but he still made an effort to be there for his family.
All three cats looked up as Sushi and Sunny approached. “Nice haul,” Wrapper commented. Sushi carried a pair of mice, while Sunny had her squirrel.
They dropped their catches in front of the den. “Thanks,” Sunny mewed. She glanced around, her ice-blue gaze sharp with curiosity. “Have you seen Snuggle and Shy yet? I thought they’d be back by now.”
All three cats shook their heads. “They could just be running late,” Catflap rasped. The elderly tom was lying beside Wrapper, his paws tucked neatly beneath him, and his tail wrapped around him. “Prey will be getting more scarce now that leafbare is almost here, after all. They might have had to go farther from the den to hunt.”
Sunny shrugged. “Whatever. I’ll keep a watch out for them.” She padded a little ways away, settling onto her belly on the crunchy leaves, watching the distant trees for a sign of her brothers.
They didn’t have to wait much longer. Soon after Scraps finished sorting his herbs, two black shapes came padding into sight. Sunny’s head shot up. She leaped to her paws, bounding towards her brothers with a joyful yowl. As Sushi watched in amusement, Sunny butted her head against Snuggle’s shoulder, meowing something loudly in greeting. It was clear watching them that Snuggle had inherited his mother’s height. He towered over his tiny sister as she greeted him, looking down at her with a patient purr. His green eyes shone with warmth, his thick black-and-white pelt covering strong muscle.
After exchanging a brief greeting with his sister, Shy left his littermates behind to pad towards the den. The sleek black tom was certainly quick to get away from the loud greeting of his littermates, but Sushi knew that he was more comfortable with them, and with his family, than with any other cats.
He padded up to Sushi, touching muzzles briefly with his mother. “Sorry we took so long,” he mewed quietly. Shy was soft-spoken, when he spoke at all. He generally preferred to listen to others speak, watching with his golden gaze impossible to read, learning more in his silence than if he joined conversations himself. Other rogues usually found him creepy, if they noticed him at all. But Sushi knew he was just quiet by nature – reserved, and gentle, not cold as others thought.
Sushi purred as she touched her nose to her son’s ear. “It’s alright,” she mewed. “No harm done.” Shy blinked warmly at his mother, then padded away, joining Scraps by his pile of herbs. While Shy didn’t seem to have the natural talent for healing that Scraps did, he often sat beside Scraps and watched him work. He tended to stay quiet, letting Scraps fill the silence by telling him about the herbs and their functions.
Once Snuggle and Sunny had finished catching up, they began padding towards the den. Snuggle had a single mouse in his jaws, and when Sushi glanced back at Shy, she realized he didn’t have any prey. “Is that it?” she asked, sniffing at the mouse in surprise.
Snuggle dropped his mouse with the rest of the prey, turning back toward his mother with a grave expression. “We were lucky to get this much,” he told her quietly. “Something’s happened.”
Sushi’s good mood evaporated. “What is it?” she asked. Snuggle’s expression was more serious than she’d seen it before.
“Twolegs,” Shy answered from his seat beside Scraps. “Their monsters were in the forest today.”
Snuggle nodded gravely. “They were making enough noise to wake a deaf badger. It scared off most of the prey.”
Sushi’s ears shot forward in shock, and she saw Wrapper stiffen from beside Catflap, eyes sharp with interest. “The monsters were in the forest?” Sushi repeated, stunned. “But they never leave the street!”
“These ones did,” Snuggle mewed grimly. “I have no idea what they were doing, but if it happens again, I don’t know how much prey we’ll be able to find.”
For a moment, Sushi felt a twinge of fear. Then she gave herself a rough shake. “Let’s not get too worried over nothing. Twolegs are mad – every cat knows that. Whatever reason these twolegs and their monsters were in the forest, I doubt it’s anything to worry about. We’ll just have to keep an eye on it and see what happens.”
Shy and Snuggle’s expressions were doubtful as they regarded Sushi. Privately, she wasn’t even sure of her own words. But after a moment, Snuggle just shrugged. “If you say so.” He scooped up the squirrel from the pile of prey, carrying it over to Catflap and dropping it in front of the elderly tom. The large black-and-white tom settled beside Catflap, murmuring in a low voice to him and nudging the squirrel towards him.
Sushi felt a rush of warmth as she watched her son’s kindness to her father. Snuggle had the kindest heart of his littermates, and was often seen comforting Catflap, or encouraging his shy brother. As she watched, Catflap dragged the squirrel closer with one paw, starting to pick at it.
Sushi purred, blinking warmly at her son. But inside, she was still worried. She didn’t know what the strange behavior of the twolegs and their monsters meant for her family, but she had a feeling this wasn’t the last she was going to hear about it.
SCENEBREAK
In the following moons, the situation with the twolegs only got worse. Big monsters came into the forest, tearing up the trees with their gnashing metal jaws, leaving the forest scarred. Prey was already scarce now that leafbare had come, but the destruction of the forest drove off what little prey was left. Even in the days before she became a guard of BloodClan, Sushi’s family had never eaten so poorly in their lives. Sushi was terrified by how weak Catflap was becoming. Every night, she watched him fall asleep, fearing that he wouldn’t wake in the morning.
As hard as they tried, Sushi and her kits weren’t able to catch enough to support the family. Wrapper and Scraps did what they could, but they were so weak from how little they were eating that they never caught anything. There was no question of Catflap trying to hunt anymore; Sushi didn’t think he could make it very far from the den without collapsing from exhaustion. Often times, it was only Sunny’s clever hunting schemes that kept them from starving. Every day, Sushi’s dread grew. She was sure that they were all going to starve before newleaf came.
One day, she was at the den. It was the end of a day of hunting. She and her kits had split up, and she was the only one who had returned so far. All she had to show for her efforts was one half-frozen shrew. Catflap was gnawing on it, looking like he was barely strong enough to eat, while Wrapper and Scarps looked on glumly.
Sushi was sitting a little aways from the den, keeping an eye out for her returning kits. She could only hope that they had managed to catch something. Otherwise, the only cat who would eat tonight would be Catflap.
Suddenly, she stiffened. In the distance came a muffled roar, horrible and grating. As the hair along her back raised ominously, she recognized three shapes racing towards her through the trees. “Run!” Sunny screeched as she and her brothers hurtled towards the den.
Sushi was on her paws in an instant. “What is it?” she demanded, fear making her pelt bristle. In the den, Scraps and Wrapper were standing protectively in front of Catflap.
“The monsters…” Snuggle panted. The three cats finally drew near enough for Sushi to see the wild fear in their eyes. “We saw them. They’re coming for the den!”
Fear exploded in Sushi’s chest. “Then we have to go, now!”
Every instinct screamed at Sushi to run, but she had to get her family out. Catflap was agonizingly slow as he struggled onto his paws, stumbling out of the den as if he could barely control his paws. Terrible fear blazed in his eyes, but as Scarps started to push him forward, he shook his head. “Go on without me,” he rasped. “I’m too slow. You’ll die if you stay with me.”
The roaring was getting louder now. Sushi could see the monsters getting closer, trees and earth being torn up in their wake. They were slower than the monsters that moved along the streets of Twolegplace, but they were massive, with huge metal claws. One reached out its jaws, cracking a birch right in half. Sushi nearly jumped as it fell to the ground with a terrible thud. Then, she gave a sharp shake of her head. “We’re not leaving any cat!” she snapped. The large she-cat bounded into the den, coming around behind her father and roughly shoving him forward. He stumbled forward, looking surprised, but Sushi didn’t have any time to be nice about it. While Scraps helped Wrapper limp away from the den, Snuggle and Shy took over with Catflap, forcing the elderly tom forward as quickly as they could make him go. Sushi stayed behind them, keeping an eye on the monsters as they approached. “Hurry!” she snapped.
Finally, every cat was clear of the den, just as the monsters reached it. Sushi watched with horror as the great jaws of one monster tore away the earth where their den rested, destroying the first home where she had felt safe in seasons. Branches and leaves were being hurled everywhere, trees falling, leaving their home unrecognizable.
But the monsters didn’t stop there. They kept moving forward, their jaws snapping. Sushi stiffened, terror making every hair on her pelt bristle. “We can’t stop. Keep going!” She stayed to the rear of the group, keeping an eye on the monsters, while Sunny raced to the front. As the ginger tabby bounded away through the snow, the rest of the family struggled to follow her.
Blind terror ruled Sushi as she stumbled through the snow, forcing herself to stay at her family’s pace. She couldn’t see the monsters anymore through the trees, but she could hear them roaring, and she could see the devastation they were leaving, branches and trees still falling dangerously close. Wrapper was struggling to run with her crippled leg, and Catflap was agonizingly slow. But Snuggle and Shy kept pushing Catflap forward, and Scraps didn’t leave his sister’s side for an instant.
Sunny’s gasp made Sushi stiffen in fear. “There’s more!” the ginger tabby called out. With a rush of horror, Sushi looked over to see more monsters coming in from the side, cutting off their escape. The group whirled around. For a moment, they were frozen, trying to figure out where to flee to.
Suddenly, Sushi realized where they were in the forest – and more importantly, where they were close to. Her heart clenched in fear, but she knew what had to happen next. “Sunny, take the rear!” she snapped at her daughter. Sushi bounded to the front of the group, growling, “I know where we’ll be safe.”
Without stopping to explain, she took off, staying slow enough for her family to follow. Eventually, the sounds of the monsters faded into the distance, but she didn’t stop. Not until they reached the edges of the place that had haunted her nightmares for seasons. They passed out of the forest, fleeing into the narrow streets and looming buildings that would protect them from the monsters.
As the group finally collapsed, exhausted and panting, on the pavement, Sushi looked around herself in fear. They were back in Twolegplace.
Sushi could hear her family struggling for breath behind her. Snuggle was beside Catflap, looking worriedly over the elderly tom and murmuring to him. Scraps was going from cat to cat, checking for injuries, while Shy stared blankly ahead, looking exhausted. But Sunny was already up on her paws, looking around curiously.
“This place looks familiar,” Sunny murmured. “But I can’t remember…” She glanced at her mother, gaze suddenly sharp with interest. “This is Twolegplace, isn’t it? This is BloodClan territory.”
Snuggle and Shy looked up sharply, looking stunned. Scraps and Wrapper were looking around warily, their pelts bristling, while Catflap was too exhausted to do anything but look up wearily.
Sushi flattened her ears, flinching as a monster passed them on the street beside the sidewalk they rested on. “Yes. Yes it is,” she murmured.
She knew exactly where they were. The family had found themselves just inside of BloodClan’s territory, near where some of the younger cats made their dens. Sushi’s hackles began to raise as the familiar stench of twolegs and monsters began to set in. Already, horrible memories of her days as a guard of BloodClan were beginning to race through her mind.
“Why did you bring us here?” Scraps asked, fear in his mew.
“Because monsters that big would never follow us into narrow streets like this,” Sushi murmured. She glanced back the direction they’d come, feeling a pang of grief. “Our home… they destroyed it all. Who knows how much of our hunting grounds are left?”
Scraps sighed, hanging his head. “My herbs,” he mewed quietly. “I should’ve thought to bring some of them – maybe we could use them.”
Before Sushi could speak, Sunny shook her head, mewing, “It was more important to get everyone out of the den alive.” She flicked her tail-tip against Scraps’ shoulder, giving a mew of forced cheer. “Don’t worry. We can always gather more herbs later.”
Snuggle shook out his pelt, gazing around warily. “The first thing we need to do is to get out of Twolegplace,” he murmured. “What if BloodClan finds us here?”
“Please,” Sunny scoffed. “BloodClan was held together by the fear of our father. With Scourge dead, they would have scattered seasons ago.”
Sushi gave her daughter a sharp glace. “Don’t sound so sure,” she warned Sunny. “Any of one your father’s guards may have taken over leadership since he died. We’ll have to be careful.” She sighed, glancing wearily towards the street. “But we can’t go back to the forest yet either. We don’t know how long the monsters will be there, and now that our den is destroyed, we don’t have anywhere to go.” She sighed. “We can go back in the forest in the morning. For now, let’s try to find somewhere safe to spend the night, and maybe find something to eat.”
The others weren’t happy with her decision, but they didn’t argue. It didn’t take them long to find a quiet corner in a narrow alley to settle in for the night. A tipped-over garbage can served as a safe, if crowded, den for the family. Sunny and Shy managed to catch a sizeable rat for the family to share. When they finished their meal, Sushi sat back, starting to groom.
It was strange. Even with the threat of BloodClan hanging over their heads, Sushi somehow felt more comfortable than she had in moons. The forest had been her home for two full leafbares, and it had been a good home. But she knew Twolegplace better than anywhere else. She had been happy here, once. Though she couldn’t forget the horrors she had witnessed, there was a certain comfort to being back on the street.
Her feeling of comfort was short-lived. Sushi was helping Sunny clean up from the meal when something clattered further down the alley. Every cat froze. A shape was moving at the end of the alley, eyes flashing in the dark. Cats scrambled to hide behind the garbage can, but it was too late. Just as Sushi bounded for the garbage can, a familiar voice called out a horribly familiar name in shock.
“Screech?”

Yay, another chapter done. ^^ Once this is over I can get back to Trail of Ashes – though I’m going to be writing some original stuff (not anything I’ll post here) as well over the summer, so don’t expect constant updates.
Anyway, sorry for the infodumps in this chapter. There’s only so many chapters in a novella to get information out. I tried to make it flow – I hope I succeeded.
Two years have gone by, and now Sushi and Scourge’s kits are fully grown. And the destruction of the forest has begun. At this point, Sushi would be seven years old, so she’s getting pretty up there in years, as are Scraps and Wrapper, but they aren’t totally elderly yet. Catflap, on the other hand, totally is – I think he’s around 12 years old here. Yes, I know that’s ridiculously old for a wild cat, but whatever, Sushi’s spent her whole life doing whatever it takes to keep her family well-fed, and it’s paid off. Besides, Mitsystar’s at least that old in the canon universe now, and she’s still going strong.
Now that they’re back in Twolegplace, next chapter should be interesting. ^^ Only three chapters left – and I promise you’ll learn the connection to Trail of Ashes in the last chapter. It isn’t a big connection, but whatever.
Cliff-hanger… Awesome! 😀
Yep. ^^ I’ll try to update it soon.
Wonderful chapter! It was heartwarming to see how the family was doing!
Thanks. 🙂 Yeah, I wanted to show what kind of cats the kits had grown up to be, and how the family was doing. 🙂
Awesome! I love the kits 😀 whyyyyy the cliffhanger >:( 😛
Thanks. 😀 And ’cause. XD I’m working on the next chapter now, I’ll try to have it up soon.
