Claimed !
After your…… less than pleasant deputy and leader have left, Kaukau is actually looking up. You begin to collect displays of gifts to present the Monarchy and apprentices practice a display of swimming talent. All your warrior are working on catching water prey, but making sure that there is also an abundance of land prey as some Monarchy cats do not quite have the taste buds to handle the clans delicacies
Pondstem hunched over his prized collection, his expression one of joy, like a proud papa laying eyes on his newborns. He stroked a paw over a smooth white rock, noting the absence of chips or cracks in the surface. It was simply perfect, as was the rest of his collection. He looked up, his expression immediately turning distrustful as he looked at his fellow blue-eyed Clanmates.
Thieves, the whole lot of them. Thieves and scoundrels.
Honeymoon –
Honeymoon dragged a bundle of shells and fish scales across the ground, using reeds to stop them from becoming caked in sand after she’d delicately washed them all. Her yellow eyes glowed like the sun, strange and foreign to the rest of the Kaukau cats. Across the camp a tom lay out, admiring a stone, as smooth as a newborn kittens paw pads. Honeymoon watched him out of the corner of her eye, grinning. Surely this tom would give the Monarchy’s favourite Kaukau cat a good trade for that rock. Putting on her kind, soft face, the face she showed her clan, the she cat padded over to him, laying down in front of the tom, casting a shadow over him.
“Any chance you’d trade that rock for anything ? I’ve got loads of shells and fish scales here, I think there might even be some crab claws in there somewhere !”
She grinned at him, head tilted
Pondstem’s fur spiked along his spine as he studied this strange-eyed she-cat, the Monarchy’s so-called golden warrior. Pah. Stuff and nonsense. He dropped his gaze to her collection, his large eyes scanning the scales and shells. He stretched out a gentle paw, hooking a large shell with his claw, and rolled it over to study the inside. His eyes widened in wonder as he took in the marbled interior, the pale gold and purple and pink streaks running together. This was certainly a prize.
He turned his face up to Honeymoon’s, blue eyes meeting yellow. “I would trade for this,” he mewed, his voice reedy and thin, “if you also gave me one of those beautiful raven feathers you seem so good at finding.” Her and many others, much to his dismay. He loved the glossy feathers and the way they caught the light, but had yet to stumble upon any himself.
Honeymoon –
As the tom admired the shell, she struggled not to sneer at him. That was the one she had loved , and hoped to keep. But that pebble was gorgeous, especially the way it reflected the light, she’d give up that, and one of her feather to gain it.
Rooting through the masses of the shells she so loved collecting, Honeymoon managed to root out a bundle of ravens feathers. The light made the purples and blues dance across the dark surface of the smooth feather, and something inside Honeymoon made her wish he hadn’t asked.
Oh well
“Here you go, it’s nice seeing another cat who takes their collection seriously, unlike the rest of the clan, who’d trade a pigeon feather for their most prized possession.”
She slightly dropped the act. The tom seemed to see through it anyway. Hooking her paw around the pebble she tugged it towards herself
Pondstem pouted just a bit as Honeymoon took his stone, but he consoled himself with knowing that he could find another. “You can tell a lot about a cat by their collection.” He mewed, pulling the shell and feathers towards him with care. “A well-organised collection could mean a well-organised cat. Or perhaps they’re controlling. Someone who goes to great lengths to find beautiful things is likely determined.” He did not mention that he was neither determined nor controlling, because he didn’t much care. He was enjoying himself very much as he watched the light bounce off his new feathers.
Honeymoon –
“Mm”
She murmered, not really listening to the tom that much. Though from what she caught of his conversation, he was correct. She was controlling, and determined. As the tom watched the light bounce off the feather, she realised she didn’t remember his name. Honeymoon rarely bothered with things like that, she was not that fond of her clan and would only speak to others in passing, so she didn’t have to put too much effort into her kind act
“What was your name again ? Sorry I don’t think I introduced myself, I’m Honeymoon.”
Pondstem’s whiskers twitched. Typical. He had only been with the Kaukau for, oh, just about forever. “Pondstem.” He replied, not looking up from his feathers.
Honeymoon
Hearing Crystal’s call, to all cats, except her, always made her lift her head higher. And all it had taken to get that appreciation was a tiny little murder and a few lies. Easy. She wondered why more cats didn’t do it. Tilting her head at Pondstem, she purred under her breath
“Oh looks like you’ve got to budge over to that clan meeting. I’m glad I don’t have to movement it looks like such a bore !”
She made a point of arranging her collection in size order, showing no signs of stopping as the other cats began to gather
Pondstem flashed her a sarcastic smile, eyes glinting. Stupid beautiful Honeymoon with her stupid beautiful collection. He bundled up his new treasures and carried them with him as he walked over to his leader.
(Oof beautiful Honeymoon didn’t see that one coming 😛 )
Honeymoon –
As the tom walked away, she cleaned her paws, watching the clan gather out of the corner of her eye. Whenever she licked her claws clean like this she always felt like she could taste the blood again, the blood from her father’s body. Sometimes she thought to herself that part of her act must be true, that you couldn’t be two people and not have a tiny slither of that other person in you somewhere.
She tried not to think about, because she’d been so sure of who she was. She was a bad cat, and didn’t want her to begin reconsidering all those life choices. Too much effort
-Crystal-
Crystal padded out of her den. “Kaukau Cats! It is time to prepare for the Monarchy to come. I expect everyone to pitch in, except for you Honeymoon, you may continue doing what you need to.”
If your wondering why Crystal is giving orders it’s because she is the leader. I am going to call her Crystal when I roleplay because it’s easier but when you talk to her please call her Crystal Clear Water In Lake
-Jayflight-
When he heard Crystal Clear Water In Lake’s voice he immediately ran to the river to start practicing. He knew nobody was going to pay attention to him though. Well, except for Crystal Clear Water In Lake, but that was only because they were mates.
Frostpounce-
Frostpounce heard this and walked over to Crystal, “what can I help with” she asked
-Crystal-
“I would like you to practice swimming for the races”
Frostpounce-
“alright, cool. I’ll go do that, keep myself occupied” Frostpounce responded. She walked over to a river and jumped in, she walked through the shallows until she got too deep to stand and started to swim around. She was just messing around in the water and then started doing ‘actual work’ at swimming.
Honeylight padded over towards the leader, overhearing her talking with Frostpounce.
“Oh! Frostpounce do you want to practice together?”
Frostpounce-
Frostpounce saw Honeylight coming over to the river, “hey Honeylight, of course we can practice together, come on in” she smiled
Honeylight smiled and charged towards the river, launching herself in. Her webbed paws easily propelled her forward, and she turned towards Frostpounce.
“Maybe we could dive to the bottom to grab some stones? There might be some beautiful ones!”
Honeymoon –
Bored, she padded over to the river, and begin to swim with the other cats. Her body was built for this, long and streamlined with webbed paws. As she swam, she found a rare treasure, a snail shell with tiny other creatures attached to it, and she hooked it up with one paw
Frostpounce-
“sure, its worth a shot, I like stones and shells” Frostpounce said as she dove down to the bottom of the water. when she came back up she had a perfectly smooth little black stone “theres lots of them down there” she told Honeylight. She saw another cat jump into the water, and they came back with a fancy looking shell. Frostpounce got out of the water to go put her stone in the her collection and jumped back in the water.
-Swiftstream-
Leaving her collection of beautiful feathers she walked over to Crystal. “What should I do?” she asked staring up at the black she-cat.
-Crystal-
I would appreciate if you went around camp making sure everyone is doing something. If they are not report to me. When you finish that I would like you to practice swimming for the race.
-Swiftstream-
She nodded and glanced around the camp after Crystal left her alone.
Swiftstream-
After she made sure everyone was doing something she raced out of camp and plunged into the river. She moved her legs swiftly. Her moment of pride for her swimming skills was destroyed when she reached the middle of the stream. The tide pushed her downstream and all Swiftstream could do was keep her head above water. She paddled hard and after a tiring battle her paws touched the bank of the river. She padded out of the river. Embarrassed and exhausted she returned to camp, hoping no one had seen her. She laid down in a patch of sunlight and let the warm rays dry her pelt. She kept her eyes open in slits and she relaxed feeling as all her tiredness was washed away.
Frostpounce-
Frostpounce was just walking around looking for someone to talk to (someone can interact with her)
(Crystal (the leader) has just called a clan meeting by the way)
-Jayflight-
Jayflight spotted a she-cat wandering around looking lost. “Are you lost?”
~ Kestrel Sky ~
Kestrel Sky groaned inwardly. She knew how meager her collection was compared the the rest of Kaukau. But how could she be bothered with such useless tasks when important things were happening in the world? But I suppose I have to find something. Kestrel Sky headed out of camp and padded beside a stream, hoping to find a glossy rock or a rare feather. In the corner of her eye she saw something sparkle in the water. She leaped into the stream and took out a small, flat stone that glittered where light hit it. This is beautiful. If anybody else were here, they’d try to snatch it right out of my paws. Feeling proud and lucky, she picked up the stone with her mouth and walked toward camp with her head held high.
-Jayflight-
“Hello Kestrel Sky, that’s a beautiful stone!”
~ Kestrel Sky ~
“Don’t get any ideas about stealing it,” she said to Jayflight, sounding harsher than intended. She knew she was being very disrespectful for talking to the leader’s mate that way, and she instantly regretted it. And she couldn’t say that she had Monarchy blood and Jayflight didn’t, because nobody knew anything about Jayflight’s past. Mouse dung.
-Jayflight-
“I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to threaten you or your stone in any way.”
~ Kestrel Sky ~
She nodded curtly, and retreated to a spot hidden by ferns and sedges at the far west end of camp to place her stone.
Silverice-
Silverice walked out of the river carrying her newest treasure. A smooth reddish stone that’s shape resembled a curled up fox. She placed it on the ground and quickly groomed herself dry.
~ Cloudwhisp ~
Stretching her worn-out bones, Cloudwhisp rose from her position on a flat rock where she had been sunning herself. She saw her granddaughter, Kestrel Sky, come in with a pretty stone, which Jayflight commented on. Cloudwhisp turned away to see Silverice enter camp as well, with a reddish stone that looked like a fox. “That’s unique, Silverice.” Cloudwhisp rasped, padding toward the warrior.
Silverive-
Silverice dipped her head to the old warrior. “Thank you.” she meowed setting her stone down. She sat down and looked around camp. “Do you know if any hunters have come back? If not I’ll go out hunting.” she said acknowledging the growling in her stomach.
She tilted her head to get a better view of Cloudwhisp.
~ Cloudwhisp ~
“I haven’t seen any. I would go out with you, but those days are over, I’m afraid.” Cloudwhisp said with a half-hearted laugh. She wheezed a bit, feeling a little dizzy. Maybe I should go to Dahon, she considered, but quickly whisked the thought away. No, I’ll be fine. I know Kestrel Sky would fuss over me unnecessarily, because that’s just the way she is. She composed herself. “You should go now, Silverice. The prey won’t wait for you.”
Silverice-
She nodded but noticed that Cloudwhisp didn’t seem alright. “I’ll go and hunt, I think you should go to Dahon if you don’t feel well.” she added hoping she wasn’t hurting the older she-cat by practically saying she was old. She stood up and stretched her muscles ready to head towards the river.
~ Cloudwhisp ~
She rolled her eyes. “Warriors these days are so worried about the tiniest things. I won’t have to be treated yet, whippersnapper. Shoo. Go hunt.” Cloudwhisp said, flicking her forepaw dismissively. Cloudwhisp only half believed her own words, but she wasn’t terribly ill. Right?
The Monarchy Vist is beginning ! Prepare your collections for show and make sure your swimming routines are perfect !
Silverice-
She nodded hoping that the Cloudwhisp knew what she was saying. She left camp to hunt. She stopped at the river and watching so that she didn’t cast a shadow over the river waited. After a few minutes she noticed a fish swimming infront of her. With a sudden movement Silverice grabbed the fish with her claws and threw it out of the river. Drops of water landed on her whisker. She took the wriggling fish in her mouth and killed it. She returned to camp and set her prey down on the prey pile, realizing that it was time for the Monarchy visit. She took a big gulp and and looked around camp scared.
Swiftstream-
Swiftstream walked over to the prey pile and took off the fish that Silverice had caught. She settled down and ate the fish in a few bites. Happy that her stomach was full she walked over to her collection and looked it over. All in all there were 10 feathers. Two beautiful pink ones, a feather of a kingfisher, two blue feather, one green feather that seemed to shine in the sunlight, two yellow and two white feathers of a swan.
~ Kestrel Sky ~
Kestrel Sky surveyed her collection. Three feathers, two stones. How disappointing. Maybe the Monarchy will be impressed by quality rather than quantity, Kestrel Sky thought, her chest glowing with hope as she looked at her favorite piece of the collection: a stone that looked normal on the outside but was sparkling with beauty on the inside. There was also her big white feather that she thought was at least a little bit impressive. Kestrel Sky never really got most Kaukau cats’ points of view on collecting, though. Kestrel Sky thought mundane things were beautiful. You never know if they hold a story that won’t ever be told. Everything in nature has its own uniqueness that usually no one will appreciate. But I suppose I have to go with the crowd if the Monarchy’s going to take any interest in me. Personally, Kestrel Sky wished the Monarchy–her parents–would look at her the same way they looked at that stuck-up she-cat Honeymoon. Kestrel Sky growled with disgust. “Golden warrior”, pfft.
What’s this ? A wild Honeymoon has appeared 😛
Honeymoon –
Sauntering around camp, Honeymoon snorted when she saw Kestrel Sky’s feeble collection. She was often tasked with the welfare of the apprentice, and she kindly obliged to do so. It was a blessing to be taught by her. But, for now, she had to keep the kind, smiling face, and ignore her urges to mock the other cats collection.
“Hello Kestrel Sky !” She purred, settling down next to her “That stone is beautiful ! Where on earth did you find that !”
She was actually proud of the apprentice, for Kestrel Sky had a habit of believing sticks and muddy, uneven and grimy rocks were worthy of a collection.
Rooting through her own little bag of items, Honeymoon hooked out a shimmery piece of almost purple seaweed with one paw. It wouldn’t hurt to give that away, as a way to get on Kestrel Sky’s good side. She knew where to find more anyway.
“Here you, go, take this for all your hard work recently, you deserve it.”
Mint-Saheece – Loner –
Mint-Saheece hurried up to Honeymoon. “Hello, hello, HELLO!” she said eagerly. “What are you interesting Kaukau cats up to?”
She giggled happily, and pushed her twoleg glasses further up her nose.
~ Kestrel Sky ~
“Thanks.” She mumbled to the Honeymoon, taking the piece of seaweed. She held back a snort of laughter at the she-cat’s sweet expression. She had known Honeymoon long enough to recognize her fake smile. “I found the rock in the stream, of course. I mean, how else would it be wet? I spit on it?”
Honeymoon (responding to Mint-Saheece and Kestrel Sky) –
Snorting as Kestrel Sky responded, she let out a little laugh.
“Believe me, I’ve seen some things in my time.”
She sighed, she actually had seen cats try to spitting on rocks to clean them. It was disgusting.
Then she saw Mint-Saheece. Great. That she cat was nothing but trouble, always sticking her nose in other cats business. The only reason the Monarchy let her stay was because she scared half the cats half to death. She would make a great ally.
“Oh hello Minty, can I call you that ? You can have one of my collection if you like !”
Honeymoon often organised her collection based off how much she liked each item, and now she was glad of that. Scooping out a very jagged rock, and a shell that was all smooth on the inside, she threaded some seaweed through them, and offered it to the Loner cat.
“Here you go, you can use it as a bracelet.”
Mint-Saheece – Loner –
Mint-Saheece grinned and cocked her head. “Thank you very VERY much, Honeymoon!” she giggled happily as she pulled the bracelet on her leg. “The twolegs smile upon you…” she whispered, her voice low and serious, her eyes slightly diluted, but then they shift back to normal and a grin appears back on her face. She looks down at her twoleg watch. “Goodness me, is THAT the time?! I’m sorry interesting cats, but I must be gone gone gone GONE!” Mint-Saheece runs out of the camp, most likely off to bother another one of the groups.
-Crystal-
Crystal took out all her stones and placed them outside her den. She wandered around camp double checking that everyone was preparing.
-Jayflight-
Jayflight places his feathers and his few stones outside his den that he shared with Crystal Clear Water In Lake and started double checking that his swim routine was perfect.
